    In a match counting towards the fifth leg of the National Women’s
    Handball League, Dunărea Brăila secured a 28-27 win at home against Rapid
    Bucharest on Wednesday. This has been the third defeat for the Bucharest side, which
    are also the vice-champions of the last edition. The most effective player of
    the Braila team was Serbian Jelena Zivkovic with 7 goals scored.




    Hungarian Dorina Korsos and Romanian Sorina Grozav were the best players
    of Rapid, each with six goals scored. CSM Ramnicu Valcea tops the league’s ranking
    with 15 points out of 5 games, Dunarea comes third with 10 points and Rapid
    comes in the sixth position with 6 points.




    On Saturday Rapid will be playing
    Hungarian side Ferencvaros in an away game counting towards the Champions
    League group B, while Dunarea will be taking on Valur Reykjavik of Iceland in
    the European League qualifiers. The Romanians won the first match 30-29.




    This week will be seeing a new round of football games counting towards
    Romania’s Cup competition. In Group A on Wednesday, Petrolul Ploiesti secured a
    2-1 win against third-leaguer Progresul Pecica while in Hunedoara, central
    Romania, in a game pitching two second leaguers, Corvinul clinched a 2-0 win
    against Chindia Targoviste.




    In Sibiu, first-leaguered Hermannstadt and Sepsi ended in a one-all draw
    their games. In group C, Otelul Galati obtained a 4-1 win against SCM Zalau and
    Dinamo Bucharest ended in a one-all draw their games against FCU Craiova. FCSB clinched
    a 2-0 away win against FC Bihor. In group D, on Tuesday, FC Voluntari obtained
    a 2-0 win against Farul Constanta. On Wednesday, UTA Arad secured a 2-1 win
    against Gloria Buzau while Universitatea Craiova versus CS Tunari ended in a
    draw one-all.

    Romania’s national fifteen has
    ended in the third place the 2023 edition of the continental competition Rugby
    Europe Championship.


    In the bronze final held in Spain,
    The Oaks outperformed the host country 31 – 25. Marius Simionescu, Cristi
    Chirica, Gabriel Pop and Gabriel Rupanu scored four tries for the Romanian side
    while Paul Popoaia and Vladut Popa have converted a couple of penalty tries. Georgia
    won the competition for the sixth time in a row after a 38-11 win against
    Portugal.




    Last weekend saw the first round
    of the qualifying play-offs for the quarterfinals of the women’s Champions
    League. In Slovenia, local side Krim Ljubljana on Sunday outperformed Rapid
    Bucharest 29 – 24. The best player of the Romanian side was the French Orlane
    Kanor, who scored five times. Eliza Buceschi and Spanish Alicia Fernandez, also
    managed good shows during the match each scoring four goals.


    That was Rapid’s first
    international match with Danish coach Kim Rasmussen at the helm. We recall that
    in 2016 Rasmussen coached CSM Bucharest into winning the Champions League
    trophy. The return game will be played next Sunday. If Rapid beat Krim, they
    will be playing the trophy holder Norwegian side Vipers Kristiansand, in the competition’s quarters.

    Bucureşti is very close to qualification for the Champions League play-off. The
    Romanian side ended in a 31-all draw the game they played against their
    Hungarian opponent Veszprém. Ukrainian Andrii Akimenko scored most of the goals
    for Dinamo, seven.






    After the game, Veszprem lost
    their first position in the Group A ranking. Four legs before the final
    matches, Dinamo ranks fourth in the group with 11 points. The sides ranking
    third, fourth, fifth and sixth have qualified for the play-offs and the
    Romanian side can be only theoretically outperformed by Wisla Plock, currently
    ranking seventh. We recall that Wisla with five points have lost both matches
    against the Romanian side. After a break the competition is to resume on
    February 8th, when Dinamo take on FC Porto in an away game. FC Porto
    is presently ranking last in the group.




    CFR Cluj on Thursday secured a 1-0
    win in the derby of the Romanian Football Superleague against FCSB. Rangelo
    Janga scored for the champs in the 69th minute of the game. The game
    on Thursday was a remaining match of the championships’ 9th leg. CFR
    are presently boasting 44 points, same as the leader Farul Constanta, but they
    are ranking second with a lower goal average. Rapid Bucharest come in third
    with 37 points while FCSB fourth with 35 with the same number of points as
    Universitatea Craiova




    This weekend will be seeing the
    games counting towards the 21st leg of the Superleague, the last
    this year. On Friday FC Voluntari takes on Farul Constanta, while on Saturday,
    Sepsi take on Universitatea Cluj in a home game, while Universitatea Craiova on
    their own turf play Chindia Targoviste. On Sunday, in Pitesti, local side FC
    Arges are up against CS Mioveni, while in Ploieşti, southern Romania, local
    side Petrolul take on FC U Craiova. On Monday the National Arena in Bucharest
    hosts the match pitching FC Botoşani against local side FCSB. The leg’s last

    secured a 3-1 win against Croatia in a group A game for the preliminaries of
    the European Championship of 2023. Croatia had won the first game with the same
    score. Romania ranks first in the group’s standings with 9 points followed by
    Croatia also with 9, Israel with 3 and the Faroe Islands with zero points. The
    first two sides are qualified for the final tournament next year. Romania’s
    next game is a home one against the Faroes on September 7th while
    four days later they will be taking on Israel in an away game.




    Romania’s male water polo side lost to Montenegro 13-8 in the play-offs
    of the European Championships underway in Split, Croatia. Romania will be
    playing Israel in the semifinals in order to occupy one place between the 9th
    and 12th teams in the ranking. Our women’s side also lost to Hungary
    22-0 and will be up against Slovakia for one of the 9th and 12th
    positions.




    Romania’s swimmers have triumphantly ended the World Junior Championships
    in Lima with another gold medal. In the finals of the 50 meter freestyle race,
    Bianca Costea came first in 25 seconds and 35 hundredths. The other medalists
    were David Popovici, Vlad Stancu, Patrick Sebastian Dinu, Stefan Cozma and
    Alexandru Constantinescu.




    Romania also boasts 9 medals, five gold and four silver at the European
    Rowing Under 23 Championships held in Hazewinkel, Belgium. The medalists were
    the men’s coxed four and the women’s four, the women’s quadruple sculls, the women’s
    and men’s eights. The women’s coxed four became silver medalist in the aforementioned
    competition and so did the men’s pair, the men’s four and the women’s double
    scull.




    Now let’s have a look at the results of the 9th leg of Romania’s
    first football league. CS Mioveni has obtained a one-nil win against Sepsi Sf.
    Gheorghe, Universitatea Cluj ended in a one-all draw their game against FCU Craiova,

    win against the Russians from Kuban Krasnodar in a decisive Group D game.
    Dunarea, which was hankering for a win in order to make it to the competition’s
    next stage, will be up in the quarters against the winner of Group C, Minaur
    Baia Mare, also from Romania.






    In the men’s competition, Minaur Baia Mare has qualified for
    the quarter finals after outperforming Ukrainian side Donbas Mariupol 34-26 in
    a return home game on Saturday. Minaur also won the first game 24-23. The other
    Romanian side in the competition, CSM Bucharest was stopped in its tracks by
    the Greek side AEK Athens 28-23 at home and 23-29 away.




    Romanian ice hockey side Corona Brasov lost to Hungarian
    side Ferencvaros Budapest 5-2 in a home game counting towards the regional
    competition Erste Liga. The Hungarians have managed to outperform all the

    Brasov.

    leg of Romania’s domestic championship. On Friday, FC Arges defeated FC

    nil-all draw their game against Academica Clinceni while in Bucharest local

    Sunday qualified for the eighth finals of the EHF European Cup, Europe’s third
    major club competition. The Romanians secured a 38-28 home win against Turkish side
    Spor Toto in the second leg’s third round. CSM had also won the first game in
    Ankara 33-27.






    A week ago, another Romanian side, Minaur
    Baia Mare, qualified for the round of 16 of the same competition after a double
    win against the Cypriotes from Parnassos Strovolou, whom they beat 28-25 and
    29-24. The round of 16 games have been scheduled for February concurrently with
    the games of the EHF European League, where Romania is being represented by
    Dinamo Bucharest.






    And now the latest from football.
    Saturday and Sunday saw the games counting towards the 15th leg of Romania’s
    first football league. The leg’s first game, Chindia Targoviste versus FC Arges
    ended in a draw, 2-all. FC Arges haven’t won a game in the past 6 legs; they have
    drawn three games and have been defeated three times. Also on Saturday, in
    Medias, local side Gaz Metan clinched a 1-0 win against Viitorul Constanta. The
    year 2020 ends without a win for coach Mircea Rednic, whose side has so far
    registered a draw and two defeats.








    The city of Medias on Saturday played venue for a match pitching FC
    Hermannstadt against Politehnica Iasi. Poli clinched a 1-0 win against Hermannstadt,
    which had been undefeated for three legs. Poli has thus left the last position
    on the table, which is now occupied by FC Arges. The other two games on Sunday ended
    with the same result, one-all. FC Voluntari secured an away draw against
    Botosani but had no win in the past five legs, having registered two draws and
    three defeats.






    Also in a draw ended the game in Calarasi, pitching two sides in good
    shape, Academica Clinceni and Dinamo Bucharest. Academica has remained
    undefeated after 8 consecutive games, with 5 wins and 3 draws. Dinamo has a
    single defeat in the past six games together with three wins and two draws.








    UTA Arad will take on Astra Giurgiu on Monday while FCSB plays Sfantu
    Gheorghe. The leg ends on Tuesday with a match in Cluj, central Romania, pitching
    local side CFR against Universitatea Craiova. FCSB is at the top of the table
    with 33 points followed by Universitatea Craiova with 31.

    in the finals and occupied the first place in the nations standings. The gold
    medalists were the women’s and men’s pairs, the women’s and men’s fours and the
    women’s eight.

    Last weekend saw the games counting towards the fifth leg of Romania’s
    first football league. On Friday, Sepsi secured a 2-1 away win against FC
    Voluntari and so did Univestitatea Craiova against FC Arges. On Saturday,
    Academica Clinceni obtained a 2-0 home win against Gaz Metan Medias and
    Viitorul Constanta thrashed Astra Giurgiu 4-1. CFR versus Chindia Targoviste ended
    in a goaless draw in Cluj on Sunday. Dan Petrescu, the hosts’ coach spared some
    of his players for the game against Finish side Kuopio in Europa League on
    Thursday.

    Târgovişte – die Burg der 33 Fürsten

    Unsere heutige Reise führt uns in den Süden Rumäniens, in die Burg der 33 Fürsten — Târgovişte. Der Fürstenhof (Curtea Domnească) in Târgovişte ist ein architektonisches Ensemble, gebildet aus mehreren Denkmälern. Es ist eines der wichtigsten Architekturwerke in der historischen Region der Walachei. In Wirklichkeit ist es ein Freilichtmuseum, in dem sie die Ruinen der ehemaligen Burg besichtigen können. Die Aufteilung der Zimmer kann heute noch an den alten Mauern erkannt werden. Im Laufe der Zeit wurde die Burg mehrmals restauriert und konsolidiert, so dass derzeit die Besucher mehr davon haben können. Die Fürsten, die sich in der Burg niederlie‎ßen, werden direkt am Eingang vorgestellt. Insgesamt waren es 33 — daher auch die Bezeichnung Die Burg der 33 Fürsten“. Ein 27 m hoher Turm — Turnul Chindiei — ist das Symbol der Stadt. Der Turm bietet eine herrliche Aussicht über die Stadt und über die Berge.



    Sie können im Nachhinein die gro‎ße fürstliche Kirche (Biserica Domnească) besuchen. Sie wurde im 16. Jahrhundert erbaut und ist sehr gut erhalten. Sie ist zu 90% im gleichen Zustand wie im Mittelalter. Auch das Kunstmuseum ist einen Besuch wert. Es liegt in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Fürstenhof und wurde 2009 eröffnet. Das Kunstmuseum beherbergt eine bedeutende Kunstsammlung, mit Werken aus dem Mittelalter bis hin zur Moderne.



    Alina Dumbravă, Beraterin für Kulturveranstaltungen bei der Stadtverwaltung Târgovişte, schlägt uns vor, das Veranstaltungskalender zu konsultieren, bevor wir einen Besuch in der Region planen:



    Târgovişte war die Fürstenburg der Walachei. Während 350 Jahre regelten 33 Fürsten die Angelegenheiten der Walachei von hier aus. Die historischen Denkmäler sind mit Sicherheit sehenswürdig. Doch darüber hinaus ist Târgovişte eine sehr lebendige Stadt. Wir fördern derzeit 11 Veranstaltungen, die von der Stadtverwaltung im Jahr 2016 organisiert werden. Es gibt auch bewährte Events, wie z.B. das Schlagerfestival Crizantema de Aur (Die goldene Chrysanteme). Wir organisieren das Musikfestival alljährlich seit 49 Jahren — das ist einmalig für Rumänien. Ein weiteres Festival, das wir allerdings seit wenigen Jahren organisieren, verwandelt sich allmählich zum Wahrzeichen der Stadt Târgovişte. Ich beziehe mich auf das Dracula-Festival. Vlad Ţepeş ist immer noch präsent in Târgovişte. Dazu organisieren wir Theaterfestivals für Erwachsene sowie für Kinder. Das Babel-Festival brachte dieses Jahr nicht mehr und nicht weniger als 28 Länder zusammen. Wir organisieren auch Veranstaltungen, bei denen die klassische Musik im Mittelpunkt steht, z.B. den Europäischen Klassik-Frühling. Es ist ein besonderer Anlass für die klassische Musik in Târgovişte. Das Symphonische Orchester Muntenia gibt ein Konzert im Hof der Fürstenburg, in einem besonderen Ambiente. Wie alle anderen Städte auf dieser Welt machen wir auch die Lichter zu, anlässlich der Umweltschutzaktion Earth Hour. In diesem Zusammenhang dachten wir uns eine Aktivität aus, die mit gro‎ßer Freude jedes Jahr erwartet wird. Am 28. März 2016 stellt die Stadtverwaltung der Stadt Târgovişte den Bürgern Lampions zur Verfügung. 2016 Lampions, die wir alle anzünden. Anlässlich der Festtage der Fürstenburg organisieren wir Folklorefestivals, Handwerkermessen, verschiedene Aufführungen und Konzerte. Târgovişte ist ein Ort, wo sich alle zu Hause fühlen.“




    In der Umgebung gibt es viele Unterkunftsmöglichkeiten in Pensionen oder Hotels, mit unterschiedlichem Komfortgrad. Das Angebot wird durch die zahlreichen Kneipen, Klubs und Restaurants ergänzt. Und die leckeren Speisen werden immer von einem köstlichen Wein begleitet.

    Der Fürstenhof in der Stadt Târgovişte ist ein Komplex von mittelalterlichen Bauten und Festungsanlagen und war zugleich über Jahrhunderte Residenz der walachischen Woiwoden und wichtiger Teil des Verteidigungssystems des Landes.



    Die Stadt Târgovişte (der Ortsname slawischer Herkunft bedeutet Marktplatz”) wird zum ersten Mal im 15. Jh. erwähnt. Im Jahr 1403 wird die Ortschaft in einem Handelsabkommen zwischen der Walachei und Polen als Stadt“ oder Festung“ erwähnt. Überliefert ist auch, dass ab 1408 Târgovişte Residenzstadt des Fürsten Michael I. wurde. Der Bayer Johannes Schiltberger hatte an der Schlacht von Nikopolis (1396) teilgenommen und seine Reiseeindrücke 1427 niedergeschrieben. In seinen Reisebeschreibungen wird die Stadt erneut erwähnt.



    Die erste urkundliche Erwähnung des Fürstenhofs erfolgt in einem auf 1417-18 datierten Kanzleidokument des Fürsten Michael I., Sohn Mircea des Älteren, in dem der Vermerk zu lesen ist: aus dem Hause meiner Herrlichkeit in der Stadt meiner Herrlichkeit, Târgovişte“. Der Fürstenhof hatte anfangs eher bescheidene Dimensionen und umfasste zunächst nur ein Gebäude aus Stein mit Keller und einer Befestigungsanlage aus Holz, die nach 1400 erbaut wurden. Um das Jahr 1415 lie‎ß Mircea der Ältere auch die erste Kirche im Fürstenhof errichten. Nach 1431 veranlasst Fürst Vlad II. der Drache (1437 — 1448) gro‎ßangelegte Ausbauarbeiten und verwandelt die Residenz somit in einen richtigen Komplex: Sie umfasst nun den Fürstenpalast und die Kirche im Inneren, die Umfriedungsmauer und in ca. 30 m Entfernung die Verteidigungsgräben an der südwestlichen und nördlichen Flanke. Sein Sohn und Nachfolger, Fürst Vlad III. Drăculea (1456 — 1462), in der Geschichte unter dem Beinahmen Der Pfähler“ berüchtigt, vervollständigt den Fürstenhof mit dem Wachturm, der später den Namen Chindia“ bekommen sollte. Ebenfalls aus dieser Zeit stammt eine weitere Kirche am südöstlichen Rand des Fürstenhofs.



    Ende des 16. Jh. werden neue Bau- und Festigungsarbeiten veranlasst. Der Herrscher Petru Cercel (1583-1585) lässt einen neuen Palast, eine grö‎ßere Hof-Kirche und den ersten Aquädukt errichten sowie die Festungsanlagen erweitern. Der Fürstenhof dehnt sich nun auf einer Fläche von ca. 29.000 qm aus, das Areal bleibt während der ganzen Zeit, in der Târgovişte Residenz der walachischen Fürsten war, nahezu unverändert. Au‎ßerhalb der Umfriedung wurden im Osten die fürstlichen Gärten bis zum Ufer des Flusses Ialomiţa angelegt.



    In den Jahren 1639 — 1654, die letzten Herrscherjahre des Woiwoden Matei Basarab, erreichte der Fürstenhof seine höchste Blütezeit. Der Palast und seine Gemächer werden restauriert und ausgebaut, die Umfassungsmauern verdoppelt, im Süden des Komplexes entsteht ein türkisches Bad. Ebenfalls in dieser Zeit wird die Casa Bălaşa“ (1656) errichtet, eine Unterkunft für Alte, Kranke und Bedürftige. Die Einrichtung und ihr Name ist der Ehefrau des Fürsten Constantin Şerban zu verdanken.



    Eine neue und letzte Restaurierung und Erweiterung erfährt der Fürstenhof als solcher in der Herrscherzeit Constantin Brâncoveanus (1694 — 1714). Die zwei bis dahin getrennten Flügel des Palastes werden anlässlich der Restaurierungsarbeiten miteinander verbunden, au‎ßerhalb der Umfriedung wird ein Feuerturm in den Gärten errichtet, im Süden entstehen je ein Haus für den Teichverwalter und die Prinzen. Die Gro‎ße Fürstenkirche erhält eine neue Ikonostase, die Innenmalerei wird völlig erneuert. In dieser Zeit des zu Ende gehenden 17. Jh. wird die Residenz immer wieder aufgrund von Krieg oder zugunsten des aufstrebenden Bukarests zeitweilig verlassen, doch die Rückkehr des Woiwoden nach Târgovişte bedeutete immer auch die Restaurierung des Fürstenhofs. Nach dem Tod Constantin Brâncoveanus im Jahr 1714 wird der Fürstenhof endgültig in die neue Hauptstadt Bukarest verlegt, der Komplex in Târgovişte wird dem Verfall preisgegeben.



    Im 19. Jh., der Zeit der Nationen und Nationalitäten, werden die Ruinen des alten Fürstenhofs von Târgovişte als Zeuge einer glorreichen Vergangenheit angesehen und als Symbol einer geistigen und politischen Wiedergeburt des Landes betrachtet. So beginnen die Restaurierungsarbeiten bereits damals: Auf Initiative des Prinzen Gheorghe Bibescu wird zunächst der Chindia-Turm von 1847 bis 1852 instandgesetzt. Auf Anordnung der Kommission für Historische Denkmäler wird in den Jahren 1907-1910 die Gro‎ße Fürstenkirche restauriert, 30 Jahre später nimmt sich der Archäologe Virgil Drăghiceanu, ein Sohn der Stadt Târgovişte, der Freilegung der Ruinen im Nordosten des Areals an.



    Die weitest gehenden Restaurierungsarbeiten fanden von 1960 bis 1977 statt und umfassten den gesamten Komplex. Seit 1967 ist das gesamte Areal ein staatliches Museum und somit Besuchern zugänglich, die offizielle Bezeichnung lautet Nationaler Museumskomplex Fürstenhof von Târgovişte“. Abgesehen vom Freilichtareal kann man im Chindia-Turm eine Dokumentations-Ausstellung zum Leben des Fürsten Vlad der Pfähler besichtigen, im Keller des von Petru Cercel errichteten Palastes ist ein Lapidarium untergebracht, die Gro‎ße Fürstenkirche beherbergt eine Ausstellung religiöser Kunst und im Haus der Fürstin Bălaşa ist eine thematische Ausstellung zur Geschichte der Restaurierungsarbeiten zu bewundern.
