    Sepsi Sfântu
    Gheorghe a câştigat Cupa României la fotbal.     În finala desfăşurată miercuri, la
    Sibiu, gruparea din Covasna a trecut de Universitatea Cluj cu 5 la 4, după
    executarea loviturilor de la 11 metri. Scorul a fost egal, 0-0, atât după 90 de
    minute, cât şi după prelungiri. Eroul echipei din Sfântu Gheorghe a fost
    portarul Roland Niczuly, fost jucător al Universităţii Cluj, care a apărat trei
    lovituri de la 11 metri. Pentru Sepsi au înscris Roland Varga, Alexandru
    Tudorie, Ion Gheorghe, Marius Ştefănescu şi Mark Tamas, în timp ce Jonathan
    Rodriguez şi Adnan Aganovic au ratat. Pentru Cluj au transformat Alexandru
    Chipciu, Ovidiu Bic, Dragoş Tescan şi Dan Nistor, cei care au ratat fiind Ely
    Fernandes, Jose Gomes şi Ivan Martic. Sepsi a câştigat trofeul pentru a doua
    oară consecutiv.


    Trecem la tenis de
    masă. La Durban continuă Campionatele Mondiale individuale.     Toate cele patru
    reprezentante ale României în proba feminină de simplu, şi anume Elizabeta
    Samara, Andreea Dragoman, Adina Diaconu şi Bernadette Szöcs, au pierdut,
    miercuri, în şaisprezecimile de finală. Şi perechea româno-spaniolă Ovidiu
    Ionescu / Alvaro Robles, medaliată cu argint la Mondialele din 2019, de la Budapesta,
    a părăsit competiţia, oprindu-se în
    optimile de finală ale probei de dublu masculin.


    Jucătoarele române
    de tenis Elena Gabriela Ruse şi Miriam Bulgaru au fost învinse, miercuri, în
    runda a doua a calificărilor pentru tabloul principal de simplu al turneului de
    la Roland Garros, al doilea concurs de Mare Şlem al anului.     Ruse a fost
    întrecută de belgianca Greet Minnen, cu 6-4, 6-1, iar Bulgaru a fost învinsă de
    jucătoarea americană Kayla Day, tot cu 6-4, 6-1. Cele doua jucătoare române au
    rămas cu câte 22.000 de euro şi 20 de puncte WTA. România va avea patru
    reprezentante direct pe tabloul principal de simplu: Irina Begu, Sorana
    Cîrstea, Ana Bogdan şi Patricia Ţig.


    Încheiem cu volei
    masculin. Antrenorul Sergiu Stancu şi-a prelungit contractul cu Arcada Galaţi    , echipă
    cu care a câştigat, în ultimii ani, cinci titluri de campion naţional, din 2019
    încoace. Clubul nu a precizat cât timp este valabilă înţelegerea dintre cele
    două părţi. Sergiu Stancu este şi antrenorul principal al echipei naţionale a
    României, care va debuta sâmbătă, în Golden League, contra Portugaliei, în
    deplasare.

    Farul Constanţa is Romania’s new football
    champion. The team coached by Gheorghe Hagi has claimed the title a leg before
    the end of the championships’ play-off stage, with a 3-2 home win against FCSB,
    and put a distance of four points between them and the runner-up. Also in the last but one leg, CFR Cluj
    clinched a 2-1 win against Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe. Rapid Bucharest will be up
    against Universitatea Craiova on Monday.




    On Friday Universitatea Cluj secured a 2-1 away
    win against Hermannstadt and FC Arges a 3-0 home win against Petrolul Ploiesti.
    Chindia Targoviste versus FC FC Voluntari ended in a draw, two-all. UTA also
    drew their game against FCU Craiova, one-all. On Saturday, FC Botosani trounced
    FC Mioveni 5-1 and the latter demoted to the second football league. And so did
    Chindia Targoviste. Two sides have advanced to the first league; they are Poli
    Iasi and Otelul Galati, from eastern Romania. UTA and FC Argeş will go into the
    play-offs with the sides on the fourth and fifth positions in the second
    league. FC Arges will be up against Dinamo Bucharest and UTA takes on Gloria
    Buzau.






    Romanian athletes have obtained good results in
    the first matches of the World Table Tennis Championships underway in Durban, South
    Africa. In the women’s singles, Andreea Dragoman has outperformed Szu-Yu Chen
    of Taiwan and Adina Diaconu defeated Goi Rui Xuan, of Singapore. In the men’s
    contest Eduard Ionescu lost to Simon Gauzy of France. Ovidiu Ionescu and
    Spanish Alvaro Robles have qualified for the round of 32 of the doubles contest
    without playing after the pair made up of Ramon Maxwell and Tyrese Knight, of Barbados
    didn’t show up. In the women’s doubles contest, Romanians Andreea Dragoman and Elizabeta
    Samara have qualified for the round of 32 after a win against the South African
    pair made up of Musfiquh Kalam and Lailaa Edwards.




    The Romanian- Spanish pair Adina Diaconu / Maria
    Xiao has also qualified after a win against Charlotte Lutz and Audrey Zarif of
    France. In the mixed-doubles, Ovidiu Ionescu and Bernadette Szőcs have qualified
    for the same round of 32 after a win against Ibrahim Gunduz and Sibel Altinkaya
    of Turkey.


    Unfortunately, Eduard Ionescu and Adina Diaconu
    lost to Simon Gauzy and Prithika Pavade of France. The latest medal obtained by
    a Romanian in the aforementioned competition was when Ovidiu Ionescu, world vice
    champion in the men’s doubles teamed up with Spanish Alvaro Robles in Budapest
    in 2019.

    which won the first two home games, 79-73 and 93-83. The finals is played on
    the-best-out-of-seven system and the fourth game is due on Monday.


    The European Championships in
    Rhythmic Gymnastics is presently being hosted by Baku, in Azerbaijan. In the
    women’s competition Romania is being represented by Annaliese Dragan and
    Andreea Verdes in the individual contest as well as by Alenia Biringer, Catrina
    Buniov, Anisia Dragan, Dalia Marin, Claudia Mitan and Antonia Stanescu. The
    individual finals and qualifiers are due on Friday while the last finals are
    due on Sunday.




    This weekend will see the 9th
    leg of the Romanian football Superleague with the most important game in
    Ovidiu, southeastern Romania, pitching local side Farul against FCSB. Farul tops
    the table a point head of FCSB. On Sunday, CFR Cluj plays Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe
    on the latter’s home turf, while on Monday Rapid on their own turf in Bucharest
    plays Universitatea Craiova.




    Friday will see four games, when Hermannstadt
