    The Architectural Treasure Hunt

    With the return
    of sunny days and the drop in the overall number of COVID infections, people
    have rediscovered their playful side. In an area in Bucharest, the local
    community has organized an architectural treasure hunt. There’s no player limit,
    and anyone can enroll, either as a group or individually. Participation is free
    of charge, and once you’ve signed up, it doesn’t matter where you start, merely
    how many clues you find. There’s no predefined circuit. One you find a clue,
    you just have to take a photo of the site in order to tag it.


    Elena Lucaci, a
    representative of Părinţi de Cireşari community, the organizer of the hunt, says
    the community she represents was born out of the need to protect and create
    more green areas a few years ago.


    We organize community
    events and pool our efforts, since we are all neighbors, in the true sense of the
    word. In November, 2020, we planted 23 saplings at a playground. We organize garbage-collecting
    events and all sorts of civic activities. Now we’re organizing this
    architectural treasure hunt, which helps us know our neighborhood better. A lot
    of people who live here don’t know that part of the district is actually a
    protected area.


    The area Elena
    Lucaci refers to was indeed developed after the First World War, when part of northern
    Bucharest at the time played host to a new district called Domenii Park. Upon
    the request of local inhabitants, Caşin Church was built in 1935. The patron saints
    of the church are Archangels Michael and Gabriel, but also Saint Catherine,
    making it one of the biggest Orthodox Churches in Bucharest. From an architectural
    point of view, the Church is a blend of Brancovan and eclectic styles, also
    transparent in other buildings in the neighborhood.


    The clues for
    the treasure hunt are wittily written, such as find a bas-relief or find a
    stone goat, and participants score points for every site they identify. The largest
    number of points decides the winner. Elena Lucaci told us such community events
    are very popular.


    We have a large
    number of participants from the local community, we don’t have to call on
    people from other neighborhoods, as we form a rather strong community. We all know
    each other, although we are quite numerous. We have some 650 members right now,
    including 50-60 very active families with children in all age brackets.


    We’ve asked
    Elena Lucaci what other events she has been organizing and if there’s an age
    limit for the treasure hunt.


    We’ve had an
    Egg-Hunt for children aged 2-6 earlier this year. This treasure hunt addressed
    for adults and children aged 11 and above. Clues aren’t that complex, and
    children aged 11 and above can register freely.


    And since the
    architectural treasure hunt is an urban game, whereby participants discover or rediscover
    the architectural heritage of the city and familiarize with architecture basics,
    Elena Lucaci told us about some of the clues participants had to find last
    weekend.


    There was a
    certain street where they had to follow a particular smell. Another clue was
    finding two sisters, standing back-to-back. There are all sorts of clues hidden
    in the architecture of the neighborhood. It’s a little weird, because some
    people stop to ask us what exactly we are taking pictures of, and we feel
    obliged to explain it is a game, we live in this neighborhood and there’s
    nothing wrong about it. I’ve also worked with a team of architects for this
    project, who do this sort of events across Bucharest. They’ve done similar
    projects with other protected districts.


    The
    architectural treasure hunt is an ideal pastime for the weekend, in tune with
    the beautiful weather outside. (V.P.)

    Vânătoare de comori arhitecturale

    Odată cu vremea bună şi scăderea numărului
    de infectări cu Covid 19, oamenilor le-a revenit pofta de joacă. Aşa că într-o
    zonă din Bucureşti, comunitatea locală a organizat o vânătoare de comori
    arhitecturale. Un joc pentru care nu există limită de membri, în care se pot
    înscrie participanţii fie ca grup, fie individual, un joc cu participare gratuită, în care odată
    intrat, nu contează de unde începi, contează câte indicii găsești, neexistând
    un traseu prestabilit. Odată găsit indiciul, obiectivul trebuie doar
    fotografiat, ca dovadă a identificării corecte.


    Elena Lucaci, reprezentantă a comunităţii Părinţi de Cireşari, organizatoare a vânătorii ne-a vorbit despre comunitatea pe care o reprezintă
    şi care s-a strâns din nevoia de spaţii verzi, acum nişte ani. Noi organizăm evenimente comunitare, ne coagulăm ca un grup omogen şi
    devenim vecini, în adevăratul sens al cuvântului. În noiembrie, anul trecut, am
    plantat 23 de arbori, într-un loc de joacă, strângere de gunoaie, tot felul de
    activităţi civice. Acum organizăm vânătoarea de comori arhitecturale, pentru a
    ne cunoaşte mai bine cartierul. Foarte mulţi dintre cei ce locuiesc aici nu
    ştiu că o parte a cartierului nostru, dintre străzile Ion Mihalache şi
    Caşin, este chiar zonă protejată.


    Această zonă a fost, într-adevăr
    dezvoltată după primul Război Mondial, când în partea de nord a oraşului Bucureşti,
    aşa cum era el la acea vreme, s-a înfiinţat un nou cartier, numit Parcul
    Domeniilor. La solicitarea locuitorilor cartierului de a se construi aici o biserică,
    apare în anul 1935, Biserica Caşin, închinată Sfinţilor Arhangheli Mihail şi
    Gavriil, dar şi Sfintei Mari Muceniţe Ecaterina, una dintre cele mai mari
    biserici ortodoxe din oraş. Din punct de vedere arhitectural, biserica îmbină
    stilul brâncovenesc cu stilul bizantin, eclectism ce se regăseşte în
    construcţia mai multor edificii din zonă.


    Indiciile vânătorii de comori
    arhitecturale au fost haios formulate, precum: găseşte un basorelief sau găseşte
    o capră împietrită, iar fiecare identificare corectă aduce participantului un
    punctaj, în baza căruia se află la final câştigătorul.


    Elena Lucaci ne-a spus că evenimentele organizate
    în comunitate se bucură de popularitate: Vin destul de mulţi participanţi
    din comunitate, nu e nevoie să apelăm la public din exterior, pentru că noi
    ne-am coagulat destul de frumos. Ne cunoaştem şi suntem destul de mulţi. În
    grupul nostru sunt 650 de persoane în acest moment. Nu participă toţi, dar, în
    mare, sunt cam 50-60 de familii active, cu copii de toate categoriile de
    vârstă.


    Am întrebat-o pe Elena Lucaci ce alte
    evenimente au mai organizat şi dacă pentru această vânătoare de comori
    arhitecturale există limită de vârstă: Noi am avut înainte de acest
    eveniment, un Egg-hunt, pentru copiii micuţi, între 2-6 ani, iar acest
    eveniment este pentru adulţi şi copii de 11 ani plus. Indiciile nu sunt atât de
    complexe, iar copiii de peste 11 ani sunt încadraţi ca şi adulţi pentru genul
    acesta de indicii.


    Şi pentru că vânătoarea de comori
    arhitecturale este un joc urban, prin care participanţii descoperă sau
    redescoperă patrimoniul construit dinr-o zonă a oraşului şi se familiarizează
    cu câteva noţiuni de bază din arhitectură, Elena Lucaci ne-a spus care au fost
    câteva dintre indiciile căutate de participanţi la sfârsit de săptămână:

    Pe o anumită stradă au avut de descoperit un miros deosebit, de
    exemplu, pe o altă stradă au avut de descoperit două surori spate în spate,
    sunt tot felul de indicii ascunse în arhitectura cartierului. E puţin ciudat,
    pentru că oamenii, de obicei, ies la poartă şi ne întreabă de ce pozăm casa şi
    ne simţim nevoiţi să le explicăm că e doar un joc, că locuim în cartier şi că
    nu se întâmplă nimic rău. Am lucrat la evenimentul acesta cu o echipă de
    arhitecţi, care se ocupă de acest (n.r. gen de ) evenimente la nivel de
    Bucureşti. Ei au mai făcut asta şi în alte cartiere protejate.


    Iar participanţii s-au avântat în
    descoperiri cu entuziasm şi voie bună , perfect potrivite pentru o zi de
    weekend, pentru primăvară şi pentru exprimarea poftei de viaţă în general!
