    On Thursday, four football teams from Romania will play in the second leg of the third preliminary round of the European Conference League. The Romanian champions, CFR Cluj, will meet Shakhtior Soligorsk, from Belarus, on home ground, from 8 p.m. Romanian time. The first leg of the double-header took place last week in Turkey and ended in a draw, 0-0. If it passes Shakhtior Soligorsk, CFR Cluj will play, in the Conference League group stage, with the team that loses the match pitting Maribor, from Slovenia, against Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi, from Finland, from the Europa League preliminaries. In the first match, on Thursday, the Finnish players won 2-0, away from home.



    The winner of Romania’s Cup, Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe, will also play from 8 p.m. Coach Cristiano Bergodis trainees will meet, away from home, the Swedish team Djurgården, that defeated them, last week, at home, 3 – 1. Romania’s team stands slim chances of qualification, but, if they move forward, Sepsi will play against the winner of the match between the Cypriot team APOEL Nicosia and FC Kîzîljar Petropavlovsk, from Kazakhstan. On Thursday, the Cypriots won 1-0 at home.



    From 8:30 p.m., Bucharest’s National Arena will host the match pitting FCSB, the Romanian vice-champions, against the Slovak team Dunajska Streda. In last Wednesday’s match away from home FCSB won 1-0. If they eliminate the Slovak team, FCSB will play in the play-offs against Viking Stavanger, from Norway, or Sligo Rovers, from Ireland. In the first match Viking won, at home, 5-1.



    Also from 8:30 p.m., Universitatea Craiova meets the Ukrainian team Zaria Lugansk on home ground. The first match, held in Poland, ended with the victory of the Ukrainians, 1-0. As of Tuesday, Universitatea Craiova has a new coach, Mirel Rădoi, a former selector of the Romanian national team. If they go further, Universitatea Craiova will meet, in the play-offs, the winner of the match between the Swiss team FC Lugano and the Israeli team Hapoel Beer-Sheva. In the first match, in Switzerland, the Israeli team won 2-0. (LS)

    Toate cele trei echipe de fotbal
    românești înscrise în noua competiție
    continentală European Conference League au fost, joi, eliminate.     FCSB a
    întâlnit în deplasare, la Erevan, formația Șahtior Karaganda, din Kazahstan, de
    care trecuse, în tur, cu 1-0. În retur, după timpul regulamentar de joc,
    formația kazahă conducea cu 2-1. S-a ajuns la prelungiri, apoi la lovituri de
    departajare, unde Șahtior s-a impus cu 5 la 3. Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe, la prima
    participare într-o cupă europeană, a jucat, acasă, cu Spartak Trnava, din
    Slovacia. În tur, scorul a fost 0 la 0. În retur, partida s-a încheiat tot la
    egalitate, 1 la 1, scor care s-a menținut și după cele două reprize de
    prelungiri. La penalty-uri, oaspeții s-au impus cu 4 la 3. În fine,
    Universitatea Craiova a întâlnit, pe teren propriu, echipa albaneză Laci, după
    0 la 1 în tur. Jocul retur s-a încheiat egal, 0 la 0, astfel că și oltenii au
    fost eliminați. România mai are o singură reprezentantă în cupele europene, și
    anume CFR Cluj, care va juca în turul al treilea preliminar al Ligii
    Campionilor cu formația elvețiană Young Boys Berna.



    Tot din fotbal, să notăm că în
    weekend au loc jocuri contând pentru etapa a treia a campionatului primei ligi
    române.     Vineri, două partide: Gaz Metan Mediaș cu FC Argeș și Rapid București
    cu Farul Constanța. Sâmbătă, FC Voluntari joacă, acasă, cu FC U Craiova, iar
    CFR întâlnește, la Cluj, Chindia Târgoviște. Duminică, Universitatea Craiova se
    confruntă, pe teren propriu, cu FC Botoșani,
    apoi, la Arad, UTA are ca adversară formația bucureșteană FCSB. Luni,
    ultimele două jocuri ale etapei: Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe cu CS Mioveni și Dinamo
    București cu Academica din Clinceni.


    La Jocurile Olimpice de la Tokyo,
    vineri s-au încheiat întrecerile de canotaj.     În ultima zi a finalelor, deși era
    favorit la medalii, echipajul feminin de 8+1 al României a ocupat doar locul 6.
    Delegația canotorilor români a rămas astfel doar cu medalia de aur câștigată la
    dublu vâsle feminin și cu cele de argint obținute în probele masculine de patru
    rame și de doi rame fără cârmaci. Trebuie subliniat însă că, în ierarhia
    olimpică a canotajului, cu cele trei medalii amintite, România a ocupat locul
    4.
