    Romanian national women’s handball team in Skopje on Wednesday sustained a 32-28 defeat by Germany. The game was Romania’s last fixture as part of main group 2 and the last confrontation of the EHF EURO 2022, jointly hosted by Slovenia, North Macedonia de Nord and Montenegro. The defeat in the match against Montenegro took its toll on the Romanian lineup’s morale, so the team put on a lackluster game, in a no-stake confrontation. According to the EHF EURO 2022 final rankings, Romania will be 11th or 12th placed. In the first part of the group stage, Romania sustained a 28-29 defeat by the Netherlands, another defeat, by France, 21-32, then they grabbed a 31-23 win against North Macedonia. In the second part of the group stage, Romania was defeated by Montenegro by the narrowest of margins, 34-35 and sustained the recent defeat by Germany.



    It was the Romanian national delegation’s 14th participation in a final tournament of the European Championship. At the 2020 edition, Romania came in 12th, a record-low, disheartening position for our national squad. Romania’s peak performance occurred in 2010, when the team walked away with bronze.



    The match against Montenegro was crucial for both teams, in their bid to advance to the competition’s semi-finals. Romania was defeated by the narrowest of margins, which prompted the Romanian officials and the team members to take a broadside at the quality of the refereeing of the Austrian crew, made of Ana Vranes and Marlis Wenninger. The President of the Romanian Handball Federation, Constantin Din, announced they would submit a memorandum to the European Handball Federation. Among other things, Constantin Din said that the official memorandum would highlight the fact that the Romanian delegation deserved a lot more respect, and a lot more professionalism was required from the referees, who need to stick to the quality standards imposed by that competitional level. Mr Din also emphasized the quality of the refereeing did not measure up to the standards of a European Championship.



    Romanian team leader, Cristina Neagu, stated that the referees should not have had the right to do the job. Neagu highlighted the fact that her team was simply denied the capacity to play with the refereeing decisions taken during the match. Cristina Neagu also said she thought the referees were unaware of what actually happened during the game, pointing to the fact that the referees simply did not know what they were refereeing. Cristina voiced hope that the referees would opt for watching the game and become aware of their own mistakes.



    After the recently-held edition of the EHF EURO 2022, with 303 goals scored, Cristina Neagu has become an all-time top scorer for both the women’s and the men’s editions of the European Championships. Cristina thus toppled the previous top scorer, Icelandic handballer Gudjón Valur Sigurdsson, with his 288 goals.



    Romania’s national football team has failed to qualify to the World Championship’s final tournament in Qatar. The team will play two friendly games, against Slovenia, on Thursday, November 17, in Cluj, and another match on Sunday, November 20, against the Republic of Moldova. The latter fixture will be hosted by the Zimbru Stadium in Chisinau.



    The Romanian tennis player Elizabeta Samara has been elected a member of the Athletes’ Commission as part of the International Table Tennis Federation. Of the 25 candidates, 33-year-old Samara got the biggest number of votes in favor, 212, accounting for 74.91% of the total number of votes. Samara would therefore have a four-year term in office. According to a post by the International Table Tennis Federation, taking part in the voting process were 283 athletes worldwide, over November 7 and 13. (EN)

    PROTESTS The latest price hikes have triggered a wave of protests around Europe.
    Traffic has been hindered in the French capital and its surroundings as workers
    in the local railway and underground infrastructures have gone on strike.
    Belgium on Wednesday was affected by a national strike while in Britain
    thousands of nurses have decided to cease work asking for pay rises. In Greece,
    thousands have gathered in front of the Parliament building where protesters
    have clashed with riot police. In most of the fields activity has been
    interrupted while the road and maritime transport has ceased. TV and radio broadcasts
    have also been interrupted.










    LAW The ruling coalition in Bucharest has reached an
    agreement on capping and subsidizing energy prices the next year. A solution to
    this issue has been delayed for a couple of months now. Under the new
    legislation, household consumers with consumption below 100 kW/h will pay 0.68
    RON per kW and those below 255 kW 0.80 RON. Households with consumption higher
    than 255 kW will be paying 1.3 RON per kW. Major economic consumers will pay
    the same price while small and medium-sized businesses in the food pharmaceutical
    industry, community services and churches will pay one RON per kilowatt/hour.
    The Executive is expected to issue a new ordinance on the issue to be applied
    next year.










    HANDBALL Romania’s national handball side on Wednesday qualified for the main
    groups of the European Championship – EHF EURO 2022 after a 31-23 win against
    North Macedonia in Group C. Our handballers, who lost their first two matches
    against France and the Netherlands, have managed to qualify for the
    competition’s next stage after securing a win in the second half of the game. The
    European Championship – EHF EURO 2022 is underway in Slovenia, North Macedonia
    and Montenegro over November 4-20. Romania has participated in all these
    editions with the exception of 2006, the best result being the bronze medal
    they got in 2010. In the previous edition in 2010, Romania ranked 12th.








    BORDER Romania has been actively supporting us in the fight
    against the aggressor, Romania supports the idea of setting up an international
    tribunal and is supporting our future – Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal
    said in the opening of the border checkpoint in Vicovul de Sus, Romania and
    Krasnoilsk, Ukraine. Our citizens will come back through these border
    checkpoints and the consistent humanitarian aids from the EU countries are coming
    to our people also through these border checkpoints. According to him another
    seven checkpoints are planned to open at the common border. In these special
    moments Ukraine is going through, tragic moments after the Russian aggression,
    we need to show solidarity and unity – Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca
    has said. According to him the mobility of people and goods has become of vital
    relevance as the illegal, planned and unprovoked aggression of the Russian
    Federation is having disastrous effects upon the Ukrainian citizens and the
    government in Kyiv. The aforementioned border checkpoint is the first between
    Ukraine and an EU member after the beginning of the Russian invasion.








    TALKS Romanian president Klaus Iohannis will be
    attending the fifth edition of the Peace Forum in Paris due on Friday and
    Saturday at the Brongniart palace. According to the presidential
    administration, the debates during the forum will be focusing on major topics
    on the international agenda such as geo-political conflicts with global
    consequences, the aggravation of the climate change, the succession of the
    Covid-19 pandemic waves and increasing social gaps. On Friday Iohannis is to
    participate in a panel entitled Present and future – how to manage the effects
    of the multiple crisis over the population. On this occasion, Iohannis will be
    referring to the effects of the aggression war the Russian Federation is waging
    on Ukraine.

  • Protestations dans le système de santé

    Protestations dans le système de santé

    Des protestations ont eu lieu mardi à Bucarest, soutenues par des manifestations dans les hôpitaux publics du pays. Les travailleurs de la Santé sont descendus dans la rue pour réclamer leurs droits lors d’un meeting coordonné par la Fédération Solidaritatea Sanitară, une organisation représentative du secteur de la santé qui compte plus de 25 000 salariés de cette branche d’activité. Toute la gamme des travailleurs de la santé, allant des médecins et des infirmiers jusqu’aux économistes du système, en passant par le personnel auxiliaire, a participé à cette action. La principale demande adressée aux gouvernants concerne l’octroi des revenus promis il y a près de deux ans, et qui n’ont pas été accordés en 2021. Qui plus est, affirment les manifestants, pour l’année prochaine, il y a peu de chances d’augmentation des salaires au niveau prévu, car pour l’instant les promesses du gouvernement ne prévoient qu’un quart du montant initial. Daniel Bulboacă, vice-président de la Fédération Solidaritatea Sanitară :



    « Nous avons une loi sur les salaires depuis 2017 qui n’est pas appliquée. Oui, c’est exactement ce que nous demandons : l’octroi des droits légaux, rien de plus. En janvier 2021, nous aurions dû toucher une tranche de la majoration salariale ; elle n’a pas été accordée. En 2022, pour le personnel technique, économique et socio-administratif rien ne sera accordé, alors que les ouvriers auront un quart seulement de l’augmentation prévue pour le personnel auxiliaire – les infirmiers, les brancardiers, les personnes en charge du nettoyage. Un quart sera donc accordé, et seulement à une partie de ceux qui avaient droit aux majorations successives. »



    Petite explication : au moment des fêtes de fin d’année, il est tradition en Roumanie que les gens aillent chanter des cantiques et faire des vœux en vers à différentes personnes. Ainsi, selon les organisateurs, les manifestations dans la capitale ont fait le tour des institutions essentielles du pays, respectivement le gouvernement, le parlement et la Présidence, pour leur faire des vœux adaptés d’après les coutumes traditionnelles. Cette fois-ci ils faisaient état de la souffrance des travailleurs de la santé et formaient des vœux de sagesse pour les gouvernants en matière d’octroi d’urgence des droits légitimes aux professionnels de la santé. En fait, il y a plusieurs problèmes, a expliqué Gabriel Predica, vice-président de la Fédération Solidaritatea Sanitară :



    « Ils partent, d’une part, d’un système inéquitable existant aujourd’hui en matière de rémunération et, d’autre part, bien sûr, aussi de cette question d’une forme d’ingratitude face à tous les efforts des salariés de la Santé. Et quand je dis salariés de la Santé, je parle de toutes les catégories, y compris le personnel technique, économique et socio-administratif, par exemple, y compris évidemment le personnel auxiliaire médical, les infirmiers, les brancardiers, les médecins, les aides-soignants, donc absolument toutes les catégories de personnel, qui ont été impliqués ces deux dernières années dans la lutte contre la pandémie. »



    Selon Gabriel Predica, dans le système de santé, depuis 2010, la rémunération se fait sur le principe du report ou de la prorogation, ce qui engendre toute sorte de frustrations et d’animosités parmi certaines catégories de personnel, car ni l’ancienne loi des salaires, ni la loi actuelle ne sont pleinement appliquées.

    The head of the Romanian Olympic
    Committee, Mihai Covaliu, on Monday said that anti-Covid vaccination is not
    compulsory for athletes attending the Olympic Games hosted by Japan this year.
    As we all know vaccination is in full swing now but this condition is not mandatory
    for those who participate in the Olympic Games and things are extremely clear
    from this point of view – the Romanian official said.




    According to him, there are 59
    Romanian athletes qualified for the competition but Covaliu expects this number
    to double. We are waiting for the results obtained by our women handballers, and
    other athletes from fencing, wrestling, judo, tennis and gymnastics…there are
    sports federations which can still have athletes to qualify, Covaliu went on
    to say. The Romanian official hopes for our delegation to walk away with 6-8
    medals from the competition in Japan unlike the national Olympic federations,
    which estimated 13-14 medals. Covaliu explained that the vaccination process is
    done in keeping with the competitions schedules and is carried out in a planned
    and controlled manner.




    Athletes in the national teams have
    been included in the second vaccination stage after the Romanian Olympic and
    Sports Committee struck a deal with the Cantacuzino Institute in Bucharest. In
    another development, athletes who are to attend the Olympics in Tokyo and who
    aren’t vaccinated will have to face ‘extremely difficult conditions’, officials
    from France’s National Olympic and Sports Committee cautioned in January.




    In turn, representatives of the organisation committee of the
    Tokyo Olympics, have shown moderated optimism concerning the anti-Covid
    vaccination at world level, which could lead to the good functioning of the
    world’s most prestigious sporting event. A recent survey carried out by a local
    company shows that 80% of the Japanese would like the Games to be postponed
    again or cancelled. Committee officials have voiced hope the situation will
    improve following all the measures implemented. They reiterated that Japanese
    organizers and officials aren’t considering any delay or cancellation. The
    Olympic Games organisation committee has constantly underlined that athletes’
    safety comes first and have come up with a series of measures aimed at
    achieving this goal, such as social distancing in the Olympic campus and
    rigorous testing.




    The about 15 thousand participants in the event will not have to
    stay quarantined for two weeks as it happened with athletes participating in
    the Australian Open. We recall the Covid-19 pandemic has caused the
    postponement of the Olympic Games for the period between 23rd July -
    8th August 2021. They were initially scheduled for July and August
    last year.

    Nouvelles décisions dans le football roumain

    Le Comité d’urgence de la Fédération roumaine de football a décidé, jeudi, après avoir consulté les membres du Comité exécutif en ligne, d’accroître le nombre d’équipes en Ligue 1 de 14 à 16 à partir de la saison 2020-2021. Par conséquent, cette année, aucune équipe ne sera rétrogradée directement de la Ligue 1. Par cette décision, l’équipe Dinamo Bucarest, avant-dernière du classement, ne sera donc pas rétrogradée. Elle était arrivée dans cette situation parce qu’elle avait cinq matches non disputés, en raison des cas de COVID-19 parmi les joueurs, et le championnat a été gelé à l’étape où il se trouvait le 6 août, les équipes conservant leurs places nonobstant le nombre de matchs joués. La dernière classée, Chindia Targoviste, disputera un play-off contre la troisième classée de la Ligue 2, le CS Mioveni. Entrent directement en Ligue 1 les deux premières équipes de la Ligue 2, UTA Arad et Champions FC Arges. Le président de la Fédération roumaine de football, Răzvan Burleanu, explique la nouvelle décision :



    « Cela présuppose que, tout d’abord, aucune équipe ne sera rétrogradée de la Ligue 1. Dans le même temps, compte tenu du fait que les équipes de Ligue 2 ont terminé leur compétition sur le terrain, leur droit de promotion sera protégé, de sorte que le principe que 2,5 équipes de Ligue 2 soient promues en Ligue 1 sera protégé. Cela présuppose que l’équipe occupant la troisième place, CS Mioveni dans ce cas, joue un match de play-off pour promouvoir en Ligue 1. Pour compléter la Ligue 1, nous aurons ce match de play-off entre Chindia Targoviste, 14e place en Ligue 1, et respectivement l’occupante de la troisième place en Ligue 2. Barrage à disputer les 9 et 12 août. »



    Il a également déclaré que les indicateurs qui font référence au système de compétition à 16 équipes sont les audiences de télévision, l’incertitude du résultat sur le terrain, le nombre de spectateurs, l’infrastructure, mais aussi la stabilité financière. « Nous estimons que ce système est plus attrayant et il nous aidera à accroître les revenus des clubs de Ligue 1. Ce système solutionne aussi certains manquements du système à 14 équipes, donc la différence de matchs des clubs de play-off et ceux de play-out. En outre, dans le format actuel, nous devons admettre qu’il y a eu des matchs sans enjeu sportif ; cela va changer », a déclaré Burleanu. D’autre part, le nouveau système offrira à la fin de la saison 2020-2021 la chance à une équipe de play-out de jouer dans les Coupes d’Europe après un match contre un groupe du play-off. La date de début de la nouvelle saison de compétition pourrait être le 22 août.



    Par ailleurs, le président de la FRF, Razvan Burleanu, a souligné qu’il y aurait des difficultés financières durant la prochaine saison de Ligue 1 et que la fédération recommande aux clubs d’être prudents afin de maintenir une stabilité financière « sensible ». Il a également souligné qu’il souhaitait que les supporters reviennent dans les stades dès que possible, mais seulement lorsqu’il n’y aura pas de risque pour la santé. Cette année, le club champion roumain de football est CFR Cluj, et la Coupe de Roumanie a été remportée par le FCSB de Bucarest.

    Visite — Le président de la Roumanie, Klaus Iohannis, reporte la visite officielle qu’il aurait dû effectuer à Berlin le 11 février, en signe de respect pour les obsèques de l’ancien président fédéral allemand, Richard von Weizsacker, prévues le même jour. La visite aura lieu à une date ultérieure, informe un communiqué de la Présidence de la République. Le chef de l’Etat roumain envisageait d’effectuer une tournée en France, Allemagne et Belgique ; à Berlin, il se serait entretenu avec la chancelière Angela Merkel et avec plusieurs autres responsables allemands. Cela aurait été la première visite en Allemagne du président roumain d’origine ethnique allemande, Klaus Iohannis, depuis son élection à la tête de la Roumanie en novembre 2014.


    Aides — Une tranche d’environ 35% du budget du ministère roumain des Affaires étrangères pour l’assistance au développement sur 2015 est destinée à la République de Moldova voisine. Le ministre Bogdan Aurescu a approuvé, ce vendredi, la liste de projets à être financés par son ministère, une liste sur laquelle se retrouvent aussi d’autres bénéficiaires tels la Géorgie, l’Egypte, la Tunisie, la Libye, l’Ukraine et l’Afghanistan. Cette tranche de budget se chiffre à un peu plus de 10 millions de lei ( soit plus de 2 millions d’euros).


    Tennis — La meilleure joueuse de tennis roumaine du moment, Simona Halep, n° 3 mondial, et l’Espagnole Silvia Soler-Espinosa (67e WTA), ouvrent samedi la rencontre Roumanie — Espagne, comptant pour le premier tour du 2e Groupe mondial de la compétition féminine par équipes la Coupe de la Fédération ; la rencontre sera accueillie par la ville de Galati (sud-est de la Roumanie).Le deuxième match de samedi opposera Irina Begu (34 WTA) à Garbine Muguruza (24 WTA). Dimanche, il y aura un chassé-croisé d’adversaires pour les matchs de simple, tandis qu’au double s’affronteront Alexandra Dulgheru / Monica Niculescu pour la Roumanie et Lara Arruabarrena/Anabel Medina-Garrigues pour l’Espagne. Toutes les quatre sportives roumaines ont participé, le mois dernier, à l’Open d’Australie, où Simona Halep est allée jusqu’en quarts de finale.


    Compétitions — L’équipe nationale de rugby de Roumanie débute samedi à Lisbonne, à l’édition actuelle du Championnat européen, ancienne Coupe européenne des nations ; dans leur premier match, les tricolores affronteront en déplacement le Portugal. L’histoire des 21 rencontres des deux sélections décompte 18 victoires roumaines et seulement 3 portugaises. Seconde compétition de rugby comme importance, derrière le Tournoi des six nations, le Championnat européen inclut également les nationales de Géorgie, Espagne, Allemagne et Russie. Samedi également, une sélection de joueurs de la première ligue nationale de football de Roumanie rencontrera une sélection similaire de Bulgarie, dans un match de préparation, à Antalya, en Turquie. Dans les qualifications au Championnat européen de l’année prochaine, la Roumanie occupe actuellement la première place de la poule F, avec 10 points.
