    RRI Sports Club – Chess tournament in Bucharest

    10 of the world’s top players have
    arrived in the Romanian capital, including the new world champion, China’s Ding
    Liren. Two of them represent Romania – Richard Rapport, world no. 13, a chess
    player born in 1996 in Hungary who last year chose to represent Romania, and
    Bogdan Deac, world no. 38, a 21-year promising player.


    The Superbet Chess Classic is the
    first stage in the Grand Chess Tour, a competition created in 2015 which has
    been held every year with the exception of 2020, the year of the COVID
    pandemic. The circuit is made up of several classic, rapid and blitz chess
    tournaments. The legendary player Garry Kasparov inspired the setup of Grand
    Chess Tour, contributing to the development and consolidation of this tour,
    which starting 2019 has included the tournament in Romania. Attending the
    opening ceremony, Garry Kasparov referred to the evolution of this tournament.


    I expect the competition to get
    better every year, players to put up performances to match the scale of this
    event. Whenever I visit Bucharest, I feel great because I understand this is
    where chess is treated with respect and honor. It’s fantastic to have to best
    players of the world in this Grand Chess Tour, such as Ding Liren, the new
    world champion, or Nepomniachtchi. The
    two have just competed for the world title. Magnus Carlsen will also take part
    in two of the stages, and even the former world champ, Vishavanathan Anand, so
    we have quite a collection of world champions. That doesn’t make all the
    other players any less brilliant. Therefore, the Grand Chess Tour has now
    become a professional network attracting the best players in the world. It is
    very important for world-class chess to have an organization to match its
    quality.


    Taking
    part in the tournament in Bucharest will be Ding Liren of China, Ian Nepomniachtchi who will compete under the flag of the
    International Chess Federation after Russia was suspended from chess competitions, as well as Alireza Firouzja,
    world no. 4, an Iranian-born French player. Other top players include Anish
    Giri of the Netherlands, world no. 6, Fabiano Caruana of the USA, world no. 7,
    as well as Wesley SO, also of the USA. Other topc players include Richard
    Rapport representing Romania, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France, world no. 14,
    the winner of last year’s edition, Jan Krzysztof Duda of Poland, world no. 24
    and Bogdan Deac, world no. 38. Total prizes stand at $350 thousand. (VP)

    La București se
    desfăşoară, în perioada 4 – 16 mai, Superbet Chess Classic Romania 2023, unul
    dintre cele mai puternice turnee de șah organizate la nivel mondial. În
    capitala României au venit 10 dintre cei mai buni jucători ai lumii, printre
    care noul campion mondial, chinezul Ding Liren. Doi dintre
    cei zece jucători reprezintă România: Richard Rapport, nr. 13 mondial, jucător
    născut în 1996 în Ungaria și tranferat anul trecut pe lista României și Bogdan
    Deac, numărul 38 mondial, un jucător de 21 de ani, care este marea speranță a
    șahului românesc.


    Superturneul

    organizat în fiecare an, cu excepția anului 2020, când a început pandemia.
    Circuitul este alcătuit din mai multe turnee
    de șah clasic, șah rapid și blitz. Legendarul Garry Kasparov este cel
    care a inspirat crearea Grand Chess
    Tour și cel care a contribuit la dezvoltarea și consolidarea
    acestui circuit de turnee care, începând din 2019, are și o etapă în România.
    La ceremonia de deschidere a turneului de la București, organizatorii i-au adus pe scenă, alături de acești mari șahiști, pe copiii
    care au ocupat primele locuri la campionatele naționale de juniori, disputate
    luna trecută la Eforie Nord, o recompensă extraordinară pentru acești mici
    performeri. Tot la ceremonia de deschidere, fostul campion mondial Garry
    Kasparov s-a referit la evoluția acestui turneu:

    Mă aștept ca în fiecare an să fie mai bun decât în
    precedentul. Și mă aștept și de la jucători, să joace la un nivel pe care îl
    merită această deosebită organizare. De fiecare dată când vin la București mă
    simt grozav pentru că înțeleg că acesta este locul în care jocul de șah este
    tratat cu respect și cu o așa de mare onoare. Cred că este fantastic că îi avem
    pe cei mai buni jucători în acest mare turneu din Grand Chess Tour. Este măreț
    că îl avem pe Ding Liren, noul campion mondial, că îl avem pe Nepomniachtchi. Cei doi tocmai au jucat meciul pentru titlul mondial. Îl vom avea
    la două dintre etapele noastre și pe Magnus Carlsen. Îl vom avea chiar și pe
    fostul campion mondial, Vishavanathan Anand, jucând într-unul dintre turnee,
    deci avem o colecție de campioni mondiali. Dar aceasta nu înseamnă că toți
    ceilalți jucători sunt mai puțin
    strălucitori. Așadar, circuitul
    Grand Chess Tour de acum este o rețeaua profesionistă, complet stabilită, care
    îi atrage pe cei mai buni jucători din lume. Și din nou, este foarte important

    Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Azerbaijan has won the Superbet Chess Classic
    Romania 2021, the most powerful Grand Chess tour ever hosted by Romania. Eight of
    the top 12 players in the world and the two best-ranked Romanian chess players
    took part in the tournament. Therefore, Fabiano Caruana and Wesley So of the United
    States, ranked 2nd and 9th respectively, Levon Aronia of
    Armenia, no. 5 in the world, Anish Giri
    of the Netherlands, no. 6 in the world and Russia’s Alexandr Grischuk enrolled
    in the competition in Bucharest. Representing Romania were Constantin Lupulescu,
    the only Romanian player ranked in the top 100, currently in 86th
    place, and Bogdan Deac, number 147th and ranked 4th in
    the world junior standings.


    Aged 36, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov is two-time world champion and has an impressive
    track record. He played in two editions of the world championship, and in Bucharest
    he ended the tournament undefeated, with 6 points in 9 matches. At the awards
    ceremony, Chamber of Deputies Speaker Ludovic Orban handed him the Superbet Chess
    Classic trophy. Designed by Aurelian Aldescu, the trophy is a blend of
    Constantin Brancusi’s The Infinity Column and the chess king. Here is what
    the winner of the tournament, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, told us after scooping the
    trophy.


    It is very nice to be here as a player and, of course, as a winner. It
    was a very good tournament. I want to say thank you to all players for a nice
    tournament. Everything was very good. Thank you very much! Love you, Bucharest,
    and I’ll be back again.


    The Superbet Chess Classic Romania 2021 was the first in the Grand Chess
    Tour series of 5 tournaments, held under the patronage of former world champion

    La acest superturneu organizat la București au participat opt din primii 12 jucători ai lumii și primii doi jucători români din topul mondial. La București au jucat americanii Fabiano Caruana, numărul doi mondial și Wesley So, numărul 9 mondial, Levon Aronian (Armenia), numărul 5 mondial, olandezul Anish Giri, numărul 6 mondial, rusul Alexandr Grischuk, numărul 7 mondial, azerul Teimour Radjabov, numărul 10 mondial și francezul Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, numărul 12 mondial. România a fost reprezentată de Constantin Lupulescu, singurul jucător din țara noastră, aflat în top 100 mondial, pe locul 86 și de campionul național, Bogdan Deac, 19 ani, numărul 147 mondial şi locul 4 în topul mondial al juniorilor. Bogdan Deac a fost invitat în acest turneu după o indisponibilitate de ultim moment a maghiarului Richard Rapport, numărul 11 mondial.



    În vârstă de 36 de ani, azerul Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, numărul 8 mondial, a fost de două ori campion mondial de juniori și are un palmares impresionant. A jucat și la două ediții ale turneelor candidaților la titlul mondial, iar la București a arătat multă siguranță, reușind să încheie neînvins turneul, cu 6 puncte din 9 partide. El a fost urmat în clasament de Levon Aronian, Wesley So și Alexandr Grischuk, fiecare cu 5 puncte.


    La ceremonia de premiere a participat și președintele camerei Deputaților, Ludovic Orban, care i-a înmânat câștigătorului trofeul Superbet Chess Classic Romania 2021, trofeu creat de artistul Aurelian Aldescu. Trofeul este o sinteză între celebra operă a lui Constantin Brâncuși, Coloana Infinitului și regele de la jocul de șah. Pe lângă trofeu, câștigătorul a primit și un premiu de 90 de mii de dolari. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov a declarat:


    Este foarte frumos să fiu aici, ca jucător și, bineînțeles, ca învingător! A fost un turneu foarte bun. Aș dori să mulțumesc tuturor jucătorilor De ce am câștigat acest turneu? Pentru că am fost fericit, pentru că iubesc Bucureștiul! În fiecare zi am mers în orașul vechi și înapoi la hotel. În fiecare zi am văzut oameni drăguți, oameni foarte prietenoși, iar totul a fost foarte bine. În final, aș dori să mulțumesc tuturor prietenilor, tuturor celor care m-au susținut! Mulțumesc mult, te iubesc, București și voi reveni!



    În pofida diferenței mari din clasamentul mondial față de cei aflați în top, cei doi șahiști români au avut o evoluție bună, remarcată de comentatorii turneului și de cei ai celor mai importante site-uri de șah din lume. Bogdan Deac a încheiat turneul cu 4 puncte, reușind să își treacă în palmares o victorie în fața francezului Maxiem Vachier-Lagrave. La fel, Constantin Lupulescu, cu 3,5 puncte din 9 partide la finalul turneului, l-a învins pe olandezul Anish Giri. După încheierea turneului, Constantin Lupulescu a declarat în exclusivitate pentru RRI:


    A fost greu, dar am reușit să mă adaptez, eu zic că destul de bine. Momentul cel mai bun, partida cu Giri, bineînțeles, momentul cel mai rău, cred că cu Grischuk când am ieșit din faza de deschidere a partidei. Nu am avut mult timp de pregătire pentru că, înainte de acest turneu, am jucat și campionatul european hibrid (la tabla de șah și pe internet – n.r.). După aceea m-am și odihnit și cred că am avut doar o săptămână de pregătire.



    Superbet Chess Classic Romania 2021 a fost prima din cele 5 etape ale unui circuit – Grand Chess Tour – care se va disputa în acest an și care este patronat de fostul campion mondial Garry Kasparov. Următoarea ediție a turneului de la București va fi organizată în mai 2022.

    Coronavirus — La campagne de vaccination se poursuit en Roumanie où plus de 4,4 millions de personnes ont été immunisées, dont la plupart avec les deux doses. Le nombre de nouveaux cas de Covid reste bas. Vendredi, les chiffres officiels ont fait état de 225 nouveaux cas de contamination au SARS-CoV-2 sur près de 33 000 tests effectués. 341 malades de Covid-19 sont actuellement en soins intensifs. Le premier ministre Florin Cîţu a affirmé que désormais, la campagne de vaccination doit être menée en milieu rural et que les pouvoirs publics locaux doivent s’y investir, mais aussi les personnes ayant de l’influence dans la communauté — les prêtres, les médecins et même les policiers. Le certificat numérique de vaccination sera lancé le 1er juillet au niveau européen et la Roumanie est sur la bonne voie pour que le document soit disponible à partir de cette date, a annoncé Andrei Baciu, secrétaire dEtat au ministère de la Santé. Le certificat atteste soit quune personne a été vaccinée contre la COVID-19, soit qu’elle a reçu un résultat de test PCR négatif ou a guéri de la maladie.



    PNRR — Le Plan national de relance et de résilience (PNRR) soumis par la Roumanie à Bruxelles vise entre autres à accroître les pensions de retraite trop basses et à recalculer toutes les retraites, affirme le ministre des Investissements et des Projets européens, Cristian Ghinea. Dans une interview à la Radio publique roumaine, il a assuré que les retraites n’allaient pas diminuer et que l’âge de départ à la retraite n’allait pas être devancé. Les taxes n’augmenteront pas non plus, a ajouté le ministre Ghinea. Selon celui-ci, cet énorme paquet de financement offert par l’UE est conditionné par des réformes visant à corriger les déséquilibres. Par conséquent, l’Education, la Santé, les Transports, l’infrastructure routière, la numérisation et la réforme de l’administration publique sont les principaux domaines visés par le Plan et dans lesquels Bucarest souhaite investir les quelque 30 milliards d’euros demandés à la Commission européenne. La Roumanie allouera des fonds importants aux réformes fiscales et à la réforme du système des retraites. Le PNRR comporte aussi des mesures visant les transports durables et la réhabilitation des bâtiments. Qui plus est, tous ces projets doivent être finalisés avant 2026.



    Visite — Le chef de l’Etat roumain, Klaus Iohannis, recevra, mardi, son homologue israélien, Reuven Rivlin, qui fera une visite d’Etat en Roumanie. Selon un communiqué de l’Administration présidentielle transmis ce vendredi, la visite du président israélien s’inscrit dans la très bonne dynamique des contacts bilatéraux au sommet, ces derniers temps. La plus récente rencontre entre les deux chefs d’Etat a eu lieu à l’occasion de la participation du président roumain au Forum mondial sur la mémoire de l’Holocauste de Jérusalem, en janvier 2020, suivie par des discussions téléphoniques en mars et en juin 2020. A l’agenda : la coopération économique et celle dans le domaine de la santé, y compris pour contrecarrer la pandémie de Covid-19, l’éducation sur l’Holocauste et d’autres mesures pour lutter contre l’antisémitisme en Roumanie ainsi que les échanges culturels et interhumains entre les deux Etats. Une attention particulière sera accordée à la situation au Moyen Orient.



    Electroménager — Le budget de 30 millions de lei (environ 6 millions d’euros) alloué à la 2e étape du programme dit « Le tacot » pour les appareils électroménagers s’est épuisé en seulement 35 minutes, a annoncé ce vendredi l’Administration du Fonds pour l’environnement de Roumanie sur sa page Facebook. Le programme offre des réductions de prix pour de nouveaux appareils en échange des anciens qui seront recyclés. Les vouchers seront activés lundi. Cette étape est destinée à l’achat de postes de télévision, d’ordinateurs portables et de tablettes. Les vouchers de 400 lei (80 euros) sont pour des télés, ceux de 500 lei (100 euros) pour des ordinateurs portables et ceux de 300 lei (70 euros) pour des tablettes. Une fois les tickets validés, il faut apporter son vieil appareil au magasin et choisir un nouvel objet de la même catégorie. Pour les ordinateurs portables et les tablettes, on peut remettre un ancien ordinateur composé d’une unité centrale et un écran ou un autre objet inclus dans le programme, mais pas d’anciens ordinateurs portables ou tablettes.



    Cannes — Le réalisateur roumain Cristian Mungiu sera le président du jury de la section « Semaine de la critique », une section parallèle du Festival international du film de Cannes qui se tiendra du 6 au 17 juillet. Pour rappel, en 2002 Cristian Mungiu a présenté au festival français son film de début, « Occident », dans la section « Quinzaine de réalisateurs ». En 2007 il a décroché la Palme d’or pour son long-métrage « 4 mois, 3 semaines et 2 jours ». Puis, en 2012, son film « Beyond the Hills » (După dealuri) était récompensé du prix du meilleur scénario. Enfin, en 2016, Cristian Mungiu était sacré meilleur réalisateur pour son long-métrage « Baccalauréat ». Scénariste et producteur, il a été également président du jury de la Cinéfondation and Short Film de Cannes en 2017.



    Echecs — Le grand maître et multiple champion du monde Garry Kasparov et la présidente du Sénat roumain, Anca Dragu, ont ouvert, vendredi, le tournoi Superbet Chess Classic Romania 2021, dans le cadre du Grand Chess Tour. Ils ont fait un premier mouvement symbolique de la compétition de Bucarest à laquelle participeront les meilleurs joueurs d’échecs du moment. Kasparov a déclaré, dans une conférence de presse, que le tournoi Chess Classic Romania, qui pourrait avoir lieu annuellement, mettra Bucarest sur la carte mondiale du jeu d’échecs. C’est un événement extraordinaire, qui fixe de nouvelles normes pour le jeu d’échecs professionnel, a ajouté le grand champion. Quelques anciens footballeurs connus ont également pris part à l’événement d’ouverture. La compétition Superbet Chess Classic Romania 2021 aura lieu du 5 au 14 juin, sans public. Les dix joueurs de la compétition sont : Fabiano Caruana (Etats-Unis), Levon Aronian (Armeníe), Anish Giri (pays-Bas), Aleksandr Grişciuk (Russie), Wesley So (Etats-Unis), Şahriar Mamediarov (Azerbaïdjan), Teimur Radjabov (Azerbaïdjan), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France), Constantin Lupulescu (Roumanie) et Bogdan Deac (Roumanie).



    Euro 2020 — Les matchs de football accueillis par Bucarest dans le cadre de l’Euro 2020 ne dépasseront pas 25 % de la capacité de l’Arène nationale. Seul le match des 8e de finale pourra accueillir le public à hauteur de 50 % des places disponibles. L’annonce a été faite par le ministre roumain de la Jeunesse et du Sport, Eduard Novak. Cette décision est en accord avec les recommandations de l’UEFA en matière de mesures de sécurité. Notons que Bucarest accueillera 3 matchs du Groupe C de l’Euro 2020 : Autriche — Macédoine du Nord, Ukraine — Macédoine du Nord et Ukraine — Autriche, ainsi qu’un match des 8e de finale. Prévue initialement pour 2020, la compétition a été reportée en raison de la pandémie de coronavirus. Cette édition marque les 60 ans écoulés depuis le premier Championnat d’Europe de football, elle aura lieu du 11 juin au 11 juillet dans 11 villes européennes.



    Tennis — A Roland-Garros, au 3e tour du tournoi de tennis parisien, la Roumaine Sorana Cîrstea a gagné ce vendredi, en deux sets, devant la Russe Daria Kasatkina. A l’épreuve de double messieurs, le Roumain Horia Tecău et lAllemand Kevin Krawietz ont vaincu, toujours en deux sets, le duo formé de Yen-Hsun Lu de Taïwan et Yoshihito Nishioka du Japon.     Covid-19. In Romania, some 4.4 million people have been vaccinated against Covid-19, most of them with both doses. The number of new cases of COVID-19 remains low. On Friday, 225 new cases were reported in nearly 33,000 tests performed. 341 patients are hospitalized in intensive care units. Prime Minister Florin Cîţu has stated that now the vaccination campaign must be carried out in rural areas and the involvement of local authorities is needed, but also of people with influence in the community – such as priests, doctors and even police officers. The green vaccination certificate will be launched on July 1 at European level, and Romania is on schedule as regards the procedures needed for the document to be available starting with this date, Andrei Baciu, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Health has announced. The certificate will show if a person was vaccinated against COVID, if they had the disease, confirmed by a recent PCR test, or the absence of infection, proven by a negative PCR test.



    NRRP. Romanias National Recovery and Resilience Plan, submitted to Brussels this week, provides for an increase in low pensions and the recalculation of all pensions, the Minister for Investments and European Projects, Cristian Ghinea has said. The Romanian official told the public radio that pensions will not be slashed, whereas the retirement age and taxes will not go up. According to Minister Ghinea, the EU will disburse funds to member states provided national governments undertake reforms to correct imbalances. Education, healthcare, transport and infrastructure, digitization and the reform of public administration are the main fields in which Romania has pledged to invest the nearly €30 billion earmarked by the European Commission. Under the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, Romania plans to implement reforms of its fiscal and pension systems. Romanias plan provides measures in the fields of sustainable transport, education, medical assistance, the renovation of buildings and the digitization of public administration. All projects must be finalized by 2026.



    Belarus. The European Union has decided to ban Belarusian airlines from entering its airspace as of Saturday and to finalize new economic sanctions against the Minsk regime led by Alexander Lukashenko, diplomatic sources in Brussels told AFP. The measure, requested at the end of May by European leaders, was legally formalized on Friday by the 27 member states. The ban is aimed primarily at the national company Belavia and is a response to the May 23 decision by the Belarusian authorities to force a Ryanair plane to land in Minsk, claiming there was a bomb threat. Two passengers, Belarusian dissident journalist Roman Protasevici, and his girlfriend, Sofia Sapega, were arrested. European airlines have already decided to bypass Belarus airspace. The same sources explained that two series of individual sanctions are being finalized and would be approved next week.



    Film. Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu will preside the jury of the section Semaine de la Critique at the International Film Festival in Cannes, to be held over July 6-17. In 2002, Cristian Mungiu presented his debut feature in Cannes, “Occident”, in the Quinzaine de Realisateurs section. In 2007 he won the Palme dOr with “4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days” and grabbed the award for best scenario with the fillm “Beyond the Hills” in 2012. In 2016 he won the award for best director for “Graduation”. A screen writer and producer, he was also jury president of the Cinefondation and Short Films section in 2017. The feature film, “La Civil”, is a Romanian-Belgian-Mexican co-production directed by Teodora Ana Mihai and co-produced by Cristian Mungiu, and has been selected in the Un Certain Regard section. The film tells the story of a mother whose daughter is kidnapped and who decides to take action in order to save her, after the Mexican authorities refuse to help.



    Exhibition. Indias Ambassador in Romania, Rahul Shrivastava, attended the opening of the Indian photo art exhibition, organized by the “Euro Foto Art” International Association (AIEFA). Titled “LensVision”, the exhibition comprises 72 black-and-white and color photos “of high artistic value”, taken by the president of the “Bengal” Photography Institute in Calcutta, Sanjoy Bhattacharya and 36 of his students. The event is held under the patronage of the International Photo Art Federation and the Indian Embassy in Romania. The official opening was hosted by the Euro Foto Art Gallery in Oradea on Friday, June 4, and can be visited until July 6.



    Chess. The chess grandmaster and multiple world champion Garry Kasparov and the president of the Romanian Senate, Anca Dragu, opened, on Friday, the Superbet Chess Classic Romania 2021 tournament, part of the Grand Chess Tour. They made the first symbolic move of the competition in Bucharest, which will be attended by some of the best chess players of the moment. Kasparov said in a press conference that the Chess Classic Romania tournament, which could take place annually, will put Bucharest on the map of world chess. It is an extraordinary event, which sets new standards for professional chess, the great champion said. The Superbet Chess Classic Romania 2021 competition, with 325,000 dollars in prize money, will take place between June 5 and 14 without public access. The ten players who will compete are: Fabiano Caruana (USA), Levon Aronian (Armenia), Anish Giri (Netherlands), Aleksandr Grişciuk (Russia), Wesley So (USA), Shakhiar Mamediarov (Azerbaijan), Teimur Radjabov (Azerbaijan), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France), Constantin Lupulescu (Romania), Bogdan Deac (Romania).



    EURO 2020. Romanian Minister for Youth and Sports, Eduard Novak, said matches Bucharest will host as part of EURO 2020 will be played with the physical attendance of fans up to 25% of the capacity of National Arena Stadium in Bucharest. For the match counting towards the round of 16, the capacity will be increased to 50%. The decision falls in line with UEFA recommendations regarding security plans. Bucharest will be hosting three matches in Group C: Austria vs. North Macedonia, Ukraine vs. North Macedonia and Ukraine vs. Austria, as well as one match in the round of 16. Originally scheduled for 2020, the competition was postponed for 2021 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. EURO 2020 celebrates 60 years since the organization of the first European Championship and will take place over June 11 – July 11 in 11 European cities.



    Tennis. At Roland Garros, in the third round of the Parisian tennis tournament, the Romanian Sorana Cirstea won, on Friday, in two sets, the match with the Russian Daria Kasatkina. In the mens doubles, the Romanian-German pair Horia Tecau / Kevin Krawietz, defeated, also in two sets, the pair Yen-Hsun Lu (Taiwan) / Yoshihito Nishioka (Japan). On Thursday, in the womens doubles, the Romanian-Argentine pair Irina Begu / Nadia Podoroska qualified for the second round, as did the Romanian-Latvian couple Monica Niculescu / Jelena Ostapenko.
