    Romania’s national rugby team has qualified to the 2027 edition of the World Cup, to be held in Australia. According to the rankings of Rugby Europe Championship 2025’s Group B, Romania has booked one of the first two positions having two wins on its record sheet. In an away match on Saturday, Romania defeated Belgium, 31 – 14.

    The Romanian National squad has previously trounced Germany in Bucharest, 48 to 10. This coming Saturday in Botosani, Romania takes on Portugal, in Group B’s last fixture.

    This past Sunday in Cluj-Napoca, the WTA 250 Transylvania Open women’s tennis tournament drew to a close. The event had 275,000 USD in prize money all told. The winner was Russia’s Anastasia Potapova, who defeated Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti in the final, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Best-placed Romania tennis player was Jaqueline Cristian. In the women’s doubles, pairing up with Angelica Moratelli, Cristian reached as far as the final, where they were defeated, 6-3, 6-1, by the Belgian-Czech pair made of Magali Kempen and Ana Siskova.

    In women’s handball, this past weekend saw matches being played, counting towards the European competitions. In the Champions League’s Group A, Gloria Bistriţa-Năsăud in Slovenia on Saturday lost to Krim Ljubljana, 25 to. 28. On Sunday, CSM Bucharest grabbed a 31-30 home win against Croatian side Podravka Koprivnica For CSM, Cristina Neagu scored 8 goals, thus having a record of 1,200 goals in the Champions League.

    CSM Bucharest are 3rd placed, while Gloria, 7th. In Group B, Romanian vice-champions Rapid Bucharest sustained a 24-30 away defeat in Germany’s Ludwigsburg and are 7th-placed according to the group ranking. The first two teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals. The 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th-placed teams engage in the playoffs to secure a place in the quarterfinals.

    In the EHF European League, Group A, Dunărea Brăila sustained a 28-38 away defeat by German team Thüringer. After four rounds, Dunarea Braila and Thuringer are at the top of the table in their group, with an equal number of points. In Group B, CSM Râmnicu Vâlcea grabbed a 38-34 away win against Sola of Norway. CSM Ramnicu Valcea are still at the top of the table, followed by Danish side Ikast.

    In news from football, Florinel Coman scored a goal in his Serie A debut match. On Sunday, Coman scored for Cagliari, in the game they won against Parma, 2-1. Florinel Coman scored only two minutes after he was sent to the pitch, halfway through the second half of the game. This week, midfielder Coman was given on loan to Cagliari from Al-Gharafa, until the end of Serie A’s ongoing season.

    In the Romanian Super League, FCSB are as of late at the top of the table. In the 26th round on Sunday, defending champions FCSB grabbed a 3-nil home win against Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe.     The main European inter-club competition, the Champions League, this year as well, will see no Romanian team booking its place for the event. In the first preliminary round, holders Farul Constanta lost to Republic of Moldova title holders, Sheriff Tiraspol. In the first leg on home turf Farul grabbed a 1-nil win, yet this past Tuesday Sheriff Tiraspol secured a 3-nil win after extra time.



    The fixture was initially scheduled in Republic of Moldovas capital city, Chisinau, yet the match was eventually hosted by the very arena of Sheriff football club, located in the main city of separatist region Trans-Dniester, Tiraspol. A small party of Constanta-based fans was in the stands, people who stopped at nothing on their way to Tiraspol, in a bid to support their favorite team.



    With a minimum advantage, Farul began the match on a predominantly defensive note, with no bouts of their usual, combinatorial and aggressive game.     The European Women’s U-19 Handball Championship
    has drawn to a close in Pitesti his past Sunday. Romania won the bronze medal,
    an absolute first for the national squad in the last 16 years, for the U-19 category.
    In the 3rd-place final Romania defeated Portugal, 39-32. The European title went
    to Hungary, a team that secured a 35-26 win against Denmark.


    Romania
    has had a no-medal record at the end of the European U-23 Athletics Championships
    held in Espoo, Finland. Romanian delegation’s best performance in the
    competition was Mihai Sorin Dringo’s coming in 4th in the 400m race.
    Romania sent a 20-strong delegation in Finland. 12 athletes competed in the women’s
    version, while 8 other in the men’s version of the event.

    The Romanian climber Horia Colibăşanu has yet
    again succeeded a great performance. On Saturday, Horia climbed the Karakorum Massif’s
    Broad Peak located on the Pakistani-Chinese border, at an altitude of 8, 051 meters.
    Broad Peak is the 10th over-8,000m peak Colibasanu has climbed in
    his career.


    Romanian women’s national football team in Bucharest this past Sunday
    grabbed a 2-nil win in a friendly against Bulgaria. Towards the end of the
    first half Romania twice turned two penalty kicks into goals. On September
    22nd, in the League of Nations B2 Group, Romania makes its debut in the competition
    with an away fixture against Croatia. Also part of B2 group are Finland and Slovakia.


    This past weekend saw the Romanian Football
    Super League kick-starting for a fresh edition. On Friday, the match pitting Oţelul
    Galaţi against UTA Arad ended 1-all, while the match pitting Rapid Bucharest against Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe ended in a blank draw. In Sibiu on Saturday,
    Farul Constanţa defeated FC Hermannstadt, 1-nil, while on home turf, CFR Cluj outclassed
    Poli Iaşi, 2-nil. In Ploiesti on Sunday, the local side Petrolul drew against Universitatea

    Romania’s defender Iulian Cristea will be unavailable for the match. We recall
    Cristea sustained a serious injury early into the match against Montenegro.

    designated the most efficient scorer in this year’s edition of the Champions’ League.

    in top international competitions. For instance, distance runner Mihaela
    Bobocea, has had an eventful week. On Tuesday at the international competition

    race. However, her timing secured Mihaela Bobocea the ticket for the World

    game against FCSB, former Steaua Bucharest. FCSB secured a precious 3-nil away
    win. FCSB’s s opener occurred early into the game, when Octavian Popescu scored
