    In the fifth leg of the Champions League in womens handball on Saturday and Sunday, two Romanian sides will be taking on their French opponents. In group A, Romanian side CSM Bucharest, on their own turf, will be up against the French team Brest Bretagne. Hungarian side Gyor tops the group with 8 points while CSM ranks fourth with 4 points. Sunday will see the second Romanian – French game, when in Group B, Rapid Bucharest will be playing Metz away. The first side in the group is Herning Ikast with 8 points while Rapid is coming sixth with 3 points.



    On Saturday in the second round of the the second preliminary leg of the European Cup, Romanian mens handball side and vicechampions, Minaur Baia Mare, will be playing Ukrainian side Odesa. Minaur won the first match at home 52 – 26. In the same competition, Romanian team Steaua București won their match against Israeli squad Hapoel Ashdod by forfeit, 10-0.



    On Friday in the ice hockey Erste League, Romanian sides Sports Club Miercurea Ciuc, ACSH Gheorgheni and Corona Brașov are playing on their own turf three Hungarian sides.



    Miercurea Ciuc plays UTE, Gheorgheni plays Budapest Akademia, while Corona Braşov takes on DVTK Jegesmedvek.



    On Sunday, Corona Brașov plays Hungarian side Ujpest, Gheorgheni takes on DVTK and Miercurea Ciuc will be up against Budapest Akademia.



    ACSH Gheorgheni comes second in the ranking with 17 points, Corona Brașov comes third with 14 points and Miercurea Ciuc ranks tenth with only 3 points.



    In the 13th leg of the Romanian football Superleague, UTA Arad plays Rapid Bucharest on Friday, while on Saturday, FC Hermannstadt takes on Dinamo Bucharest. Farul Constanta also plays Universitatea Cluj on Saturday.



    On Sunday, Poli Iasi plays FCU Craiova, while Petrolu Ploiesti takes on CSU Craiova. FCSB takes on FC Voluntari on the same day. The leg ends on Monday with Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe versus FC Botoșani and CFR Cluj versus Oțelul Galați. FCSB tops the ranking with 29 points followed by CFR Cluj with 26 points, Rapid Bucharest and CSU Craiova each with 22 points.

    Începem rubrica noastră cu tenis. Horia Tecău şi Jean-Julien Rojer au câştigat,
    duminică, proba de dublu a turneului de tenis ATP Masters 1.000 de la Madrid,
    dotat cu premii totale de 6.536.160 de euro. Perechea româno-olandeză a învins
    în finală cuplul compus din argentinianul Diego Schwartzman şi austriacul Dominic
    Thiem cu 6-4, 6-3. Vă amintim că, tot la Madrid, la simplu feminin, Simona
    Halep a ajuns până în finală, unde a fost învinsă, sâmbătă, de olandeza Kiki
    Bertens cu 6-4, 6-4.


    Trecem la handbal
    feminin. SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea a cucerit primul său titlu de campioană naţională
    la handbal feminin, cu o etapă înaintea finalului de sezon. Duminică, echipa
    din Vâlcea a trecut, acasă, de CSM Slatina cu scorul de 29-26, în etapa a 25-a
    a Ligii Naţionale.


    Echipa maghiară Győr
    a câştigat pentru a treia oară consecutiv Liga Campionilor. Duminică, la Budapesta, campioana Ungariei a
    trecut, în finală, de echipa rusă Rostov-Don cu scorul de 25-24. Pentru Győr a evoluat şi pivotul român Crina Pintea.


    Din handbalul
    masculin să notăm că echipa română CSM Bucureşti a încheiat la egalitate cu
    formaţia portugheză Madeira Andebol, scor 22 la 22, prima manşă a finalei Cupei
    Challenge, disputată în deplasare. Jocul retur este programat sâmbătă,
    18 mai, la Bucureşti.

    fazei play-off a Ligii I. Duminică seara, formaţia ardeleană a trecut, acasă,
    de Universitatea Craiova cu scorul de 1-0, în etapa a 9-a a play-off-ului şi a
    rămas la cinci puncte distanţă faţă de
    echipa de pe locul 2, FCSB. Să notăm însă şi celelalte rezultate din weekend.
    În playout, vineri, FC Botoşani a trecut, acasă, cu 2-0 de FC Voluntari, iar
    Dinamo a învins, la Bucureşti, echipa Gaz Metan Mediaş cu acelaşi scor.
    Sâmbătă, la Sibiu, FC Hermannstadt s-a impus cu 1-0 în faţa Concordiei din
    Chiajna, iar Poli Iaşi a zdrobit cu 4-0, pe teren propriu, echipa Dunărea
    Călăraşi. În play-off, sâmbătă, FCSB a trecut cu 5-1, la Sfântu Gheorghe, de

    Echipele care reprezintă România în competiţiile europene de
    handbal feminin au încheiat săptămâna cu un bilanţ negativ.


    În Liga Campionilor, CSM Bucureşti a disputat, sâmbătă, primul
    joc din faza grupelor principale. Campioana României a întâlnit, în deplasare,
    echipa Győr, campioana en titre a Europei şi a Ungariei. Formaţia maghiară s-a
    impus clar, cu 36 la 27. Se poate spune că diferenţa a făcut-o o româncă,
    pentru că pivotul Naţionalei tricolore, Crina Pintea, a marcat de 9 ori pentru
    echipa ungară. Cele mai multe goluri
    ale campioanei României au fost înscrise de sârboaica Andrea Lekić, care a
    punctat de 8 ori. În clasament, pe primul loc se află Győr, cu 10 puncte.
    Urmează Vipers Kristiansand şi CSM Bucureşti, cu câte 6 puncte, Ferencváros
    Budapesta, cu 4, Krim Ljubljana, cu 3 şi Thüringer, cu 1 punct. CSM Bucureşti
    va juca următorul meci pe 2 februarie, acasă, cu Krim Ljubljana.


    Tot sâmbătă,
    formaţia Măgura Cisnădie a fost învinsă, în deplasare, de echipa norvegiană
    Storhamar cu scorul de 28-23, în Grupa A a Cupei EHF. Echipa sibiană a pierdut,
    până acum, toate cele patru partide jucate în grupă. Pentru Măgura, cele mai
    multe goluri, în număr de opt, au fost marcate de Ada Moldovan şi de
    handbalista muntenegreană Jasna Boljević. În clasamentul grupei, Măgura se afl
    pe ultimul loc, fără niciun punct. În următorul joc, pe 3 februarie, la Cisnădie, echipa română se
    va confrunta cu lderul grupei, Team Esbjerg, din Danemarca.


    Nici Sport Club
    Municipal Craiova, deţinătoarea Cupei EHF, nu a reuşit să evite înfrângerea.
    Formaţia română a pierdut jocul disputat la Koprivnica, cu Podravka. Gruparea
    croată s-a impus cu 23 la 18 şi continuă să ocupe locul întâi în grupa D.
    Craiova se află pe ultimul loc. La Koprivnica, cele mai multe goluri au fost
    marcate, pentru formaţia din Bănie, de Maria Andreea Ianaşi şi de sârboaica Jelena Trifunović. Fiecare a
    înscris de câte patru ori. Craiova va juca următorul meci pe 3 februarie, în
    deplasare, cu echipa daneză Nykøbing.

    Currency — Romania’s national currency, the LEU, on Friday reached a new historic low as against the EURO, with one Euro being traded for 4 lei and 76 bani. The value was reported after a one-day break on the inter-banking market occasioned by a national holiday. The leu also depreciated against the US dollar which was traded for 4 lei and 20 bani. The Social Democratic Party in the ruling coalition claims the national bank has enough resources, of almost 37 billion Euros, to be able to intervene in favor of the national currency. According to data published on Friday by the central bank the money supply rose by almost 9% in December 2018 as compared to the same month of the previous year.



    Corruption — The National Anti-corruption Directorate prosecutors on Friday asked for a 12-year prison sentence for the former mayor of Constanta, Radu Mazare. This is the maximum sentence in a file in which Mazare is being tried for bribe taking, conflict of interests and abuse of office. The court meeting prosecutor also asked for the confiscation of one million Euros Mazare received as bribe as well as for the coverage of the loss. The trial is being judged in the absence of the former Social Democratic mayor Radu Mazare who left the country and fled to Madagascar where he asked for political asylum in December 2017. The High Court of Cassation and Justice issued an arrest warrant in absentia. Mazare made investments in Madagascar where he built a small resort for water sports on the shore of the Indian Ocean. Mazare was mayor of Constanta, the largest port on the Black Sea Coast, from 2000 to 2015 when he resigned after he was first arrested for corruption.



    Chisinau — Friday saw the start of the campaign for the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova due on February 24. The elections will be held for the first time based on the mixed electoral system according to which 50 deputies will be elected on party lists and another 51 in individual constituencies, in one single round. So far 9 parties have been registered and 6 have submitted their files to the Central Electoral Committee. According to opinion surveys, running as favorites are Igor Dodon’s pro-Russian Socialists followed by a coalition of the pro-European right and by the center-left Democratic Party. A referendum was scheduled to take place at the same time with the elections, in which people are called to vote on whether to reduce the number of deputies from 101 to 61 and on whether the deputies can be revoked by the citizens.



    Flu — The Romanian health minister Sorina Pintea on Friday said that she was expecting Tuesday’s communiqué of the National Public Health Institute before she declared a flu epidemic. If the communiqué shows that for the 3rd consecutive week the number of diagnosed flu cases is higher than the number of estimated cases, then a flu epidemic will be declared. The authorities announced 36 people have been killed by the flu virus this season. Doctors recommend vaccination.



    Handball – Romania’s women’s handball champions CSM Bucharest on Saturday will play away from home against Gyor ETO from Hungary in their first match in the Champions’ League Main Group B. The two teams are on first positions Gyor with 8 points and CSM with 6 points. The group also includes Vipers Kristiansand (Norway), Krim Ljubljana (Slovenia), Ferencvaros (Hungary) and Thuringer HC (Germany). In the past two seasons CSM Bucharest got the bronze medal after in 2016 they won the trophy. This is CSM Bucharest’s 4th consecutive participation in the Champions’ League. Also on Saturday the holder of the EHF Cup, Romania’s vice-champions, SCM Craiova, will play at home against the Croat team Podravka Vegeta Koprivnica in Group D. Podravka is ranked 1st in the classification, with 6 points, being followed by de Super Amara Bera Bera (Spain) and SCM Craiova, each with 2 points. In Group A of the Champions’ League, SC Magura from Cisnadie will take on, away from home, the Norwegian team Storhamar Handball Elite. (translation by L. Simion)

    SCM Craiova gewinnt EHF-Pokal

    In Rumänien ist Handball eine Tradition. Natürlich wetteifert es nicht mit dem Fußball, dem Königsspiel. Die Tradition wird nicht nur von der rumänischen Nationalmannschaft der Frauen, die immer bei den großen internationalen Wettkämpfen anwesend ist, sondern auch von den Vereinmannschaften bestätigt. Diese haben in den letzten Jahren besondere Ergebnisse bei den Spielen für die europäischen Pokale erzielt.



    SCM Craiova hat am Freitag in dem Finale-Rückspiel für das EHF-Pokal das norvegische Damen-Team Vipers Kristiansand mit 30 zu 25 besiegt. Das Hinspiel wurde von Norvegen mit 26–22 gewonnen. SCM Craiova belegte den zweiten Platz der Gruppe, in der auch Brest (Frankreich), Kuban Krasnodar (Russland) und Randers (Dänemark) spielten. Im Viertelfinale besiegte es Lada Togliatti (Russland), die Favoritin des Wettkampfes und im Halbfinale die Türkinnen von Kastamonu. Craiova spielte mit einem Damenteam, das fast nur aus rumänischen Spielerinnen gebildet war. Es ist das erste europäische Pokal, das von SCM Craiova gewonnen wurde, sowie das erste EHF-Pokal des rumänischen Damen-Handballs. Der Wettkampf wurde aber unter dem alten Namen IHF-Pokal von Chimistul Râmnicu Vâlcea (1984, 1989) und von Rapid Bucureşti (1993) gewonnen.



    Ebenfalls für das EHF-Pokal spielte ein anderes rumänisches Team HC Zalău. Die zwei rumänischen Mannschaften könnten im Halbfinale gegeneinander auftreten, wenn die Damen von HC Zalău die Türkinnen von Kastamonu besiegt hätten. Die Anwesendheit der Damen-Mannschaft CSM Bucureşti zum dritten Mal konsekutiv in dem sogenannten Final Four der Champions League in Budapest beweist, dass Rumänien eine Kraft im Handball ist. Obwohl die Erwartungen höher waren, musste sich CSM mit den Bronzemedaillen begnügen. Die Damen von CSM haben im Halbfinale das Spiel gegen das ungarische Team Gyor mit 20 -26 verloren. CSM gewann das Spiel für den dritten Platz gegen die Russinnen von Rostov mit 31 – 30. Die diesjährige Auflage wurde von Gyor gewonnen, die ihren Titel vor Vardar Skopje (Macedonia) verteidigte. Das Spiel endete 27 – 26.



    Die Enttäuschung war für CSM, die 2016 die Trophae erzielte, riesig. Cristina Neagu wurde zum zweiten Mal mit 110 Toren zur Torjägerin der Tournee ernannt.

    VISIT Romania’s Prime Minister Viorica Dancila, currently on a visit to the Vatican, has talked on the phone with His Grace Siluan, the Romanian Orthodox Bishop to Italy, who is currently on a visit to Paris to participate in the Congress of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitanate of Western and Southern Europe. The Romanian Prime Minister has highlighted aspects related to her visit to the Holy See and the excellent bilateral relations at political, cultural and educational levels. Viorica Dancila has appreciated the support offered by the Romanian Orthodox Church to the communities in the Diaspora, mainly in Italy, and has mentioned the importance the church has in the life of the Romanians living abroad. The Romanian Prime Minister has also underlined the importance the Romanian authorities attach to the observation of the rights of the Romanian communities and the role of religious denominations in keeping spiritual and linguistic identities. On Saturday Dancila met the Romanian students in the Catholic universities in Italy and was received by Pope Francis. Her visit to the Vatican comes against the background of excellent bilateral relations and in the year when we celebrate 100 years since the unification of the Romanian principalities, an event to be also marked at the Holy See through a series of major cultural and academic events.




    RALLY Thousands took to the streets of Bucharest on Saturday and other major cities across Romania to participate in a protest rally under the title ‘We want Europe not Dictatorship!’ The participants have accused the ruling PSD – ALDE coalition of having failed to meet the pledges it made in the election campaign trying to keep Romania away from European and democratic standards throwing it into a regime where only political interests prevail. According to the organizers, among the anti-democratic actions of the PSD-ALDE coalition are the amendments to the penal codes, the fines abusively imposed by the Romanian gendarmes, as well as the politicians’ attempt to amend laws without public consultations. The Romanians abroad have announced their solidarity with the protesters.




    TENNIS Several Romanian players are on the main draw of the tennis tournament in Rome with 3.3 million dollars in prize money, a competition that is to kick off on Monday. The world’s number one Simona Halep will play directly in the competition’s second round against the winner of the game pitching Victoria Azarenka of Belarus against Naomi Osaka of Japan. Mihaela Buzarnescu will be playing Shuai Zhang of China whereas Irina Begu will be up against Shuai Peng also from China. Sorana Carstea will play against a player coming from the qualifying rounds where Monica Niculescu of Romania will be meeting Russian Natalia Vikhlyantseva. In the last year’s edition Halep lost the finals to Elina Svitolina of Ukraine. The tennis competition in Rome is the last before the Roland Garros Grand Slam tournament in Paris.




    HANDBALL Romania’s champions in women’s handball, CSM Bucharest takes on Russian side Rostov Don today in Budapest for the third place in the Champions League. The finals is pitching local side Gyor against Vardar Skopje of Macedonia. CSM lost the semifinals to Gyor 26-20 while Vardar secured a 25-19 win against Rostov Don. We recall that CSM Bucharest won Final Four in 2016. In another development on Friday, Romanian women’s handball side SCM Craiova won the EHF Cup after a 30-25 win against the Norwegians from Vipers Kristiansand. The Romanians lost the first game 22-26. This is the first European trophy won by SCM Craiova and the first EHF Cup secured by Romania’s women handballers. We recall that back in 1984 and 1989, when the competition was named the IHF Cup, Romanian side Chimistul Ramnicu Valcea emerged as winner, while Rapid Bucharest, also from Romania secured the title in 1993.




    DRILL Resolute Castle 2018 is a multinational drill that has kicked off at the shooting range in Cincu, central Romania. The six-month exercise has brought together troops from Romania’s Ground Forces and the South Carolina National Guard. The US and Romanian troops will get involved in infrastructure projects aimed at modernizing the training facilities in the Cincu shooting range. Resolute Castle 2018 is an exercise focusing on streamlining the training centers in Poland and Romania allowing the US troops to quickly mobilize and hold exercises jointly with their multinational partners in order to prove their deterrence capability in a complete security environment.

    Handball-CL: Titelverteidiger aus Rumänien eine Runde weiter

    Eine Sieben-Tore-Differenz wurde wieder wettgemacht und somit entführte die Mannschaft des CSM Bukarest alle drei Punkte aus Rusland. Die Partie gegen Rostow am Don verlief am Ende klarer zugunsten des CSM als es das Endergebnis von 22:20 aus seiner Sicht zeigt. Der Sieg bestätigt die Teilnahme an der Hauptgruppenphase der CL, genau einen Spieltag vor dem Ende der Gruppenphase. Am letzten Spieltag sind die Däninnen von Midtylland zu Besuch in Bukarest.



    Nach drei Niederlagen in Folge für den CSM hatte der Vorstand dem Dänen Jakob Vestergaard den Trainervertrag gekündigt. Die Stimmung beim Titelverteidiger der Champions League hatte sich erheblich verschlechtert, also wurde mit Aurelian Roşca der Ex-Coach von Vizemeister HCM Baia Mare zum Teamchef ernannt. Nach nur vier Tagen mit dem neuen Übungsleiter gelingt den Damen vom CSM also ein extrem wichtiger Sieg, der der Mannschaft die Möglichkeit zur Titelverteidigung in der europäischen Königsklasse eröffnet.



    Bukarest verschlief die Anfangsphase des Auswärtsspiels in Rostow, die Handballerinnen des CSM schienen einen ganz schlechten Tag erwischt zu haben. Der Angriff konnte in den ersten 16 Minuten nur zwei Treffer beisteuern, zudem hatten die Gäste zu viele Bälle verspielt und ängstlich nach vorne agiert. Der Spielaufbau war durch die aggressive Verteidigung der Gastgeberinnen erheblich gestört. Auf der anderen Seite trafen die Russinnen ein um das andere Mal, allen voran die Spanierin mit portugiesischem Pass, Alexandrina Barbosa. Die Abwehr Bukarests war eher freundlich in dieser ersten Viertelstunde. Ehe sie sich versehen hatten, führte Rostow nach sechs Toren in Folge mit 9:2 und die Chancen auf einen Sieg im ersten Spiel mit Aurelian Roşca auf der Trainerbank schien in weiter Ferne.



    Einmal mehr wurde aber die Partie zum Kuriosum, wie so oft im Handball, stellt das Sportportal lead.ro fest. Unangekündigt nahm die Partie eine deutliche Wendung. Barbosa und Ilina im Rostow-Angriff hatten bis dato so gut wie alle Bälle versenkt, während die CSM-Offensive ein um das andere Mal gescheitert war. Und auf einmal lief das Spiel in die verkehrte Richtung, Rostow tappte ins Dunkle und die Rumäninnen kamen bis auf 9:10 heran. Zur Halbzeit hatten sie beim Stande von 11:10 für die Russinnen nur noch ein Tor aufzuholen. Eine für verloren geglaubte Partie war plötzlich wieder vielversprechend. Zumindest aus Sicht des Ergebnisses.



    Und nach dem Seitenwechsel ging es ähnlich weiter. Der CSM steigerte sich von Minute zu Minute, auch dank der vertrauensstiftenden Paraden ihrer kroatischen Torfrau Jelena Grubisic. Im Angriff lief die Schwedin Isabelle Gulldén auf Hochtouren, während Rostow immer tiefer sank. Das Team von Roşca konnte seine Führung bis auf ein 19:15 ausbauen. Es folgte ein inzwischen ausgeglichenerer Schlagabtausch, doch Roşcas Team hielt den Gegner bis zum Schluss auf Distanz. Der notwendige Sieg war am Ende im Kasten.



    Für Bukarest folgt am letzten Spieltag dieser Gruppenphase das Heimspiel gegen den dänischen Vertreter Midtjylland am kommenden Sonntag. Tabellenführer ist der ungarische Meister mit vier Siegen in fünf Spielen. Die einzige Niederlage für Gyor erfolgte am Wochenende gegen den Zweitplatzierten Midtylland. Auch Schlusslicht Rostow behält theoretische Chancen auf den dritten Platz und damit das Weiterkommen. Dafür muss ein Sieg gegen Györ am letzten Spieltag her.

    In der Sala Polivalentă zu Bukarest gewann das Team, das letzte Saison in begeisternder Manier den Titel erobert hatte, das Debütspiel gegen den russischen Vizemeister Rostow am Don. Die Partie, in der die Schülerinnen des Dänen Jakob Vestergaard vor allem eine hervorragende Leistung in der Defensive boten, endete mit 24:21 aus ihrer Sicht. Damit schaffte sich der CSM eine gute Ausgangslage für eine äußerst komplizierte Gruppe, der noch die Ungarinnen aus Györ und die Däninnen von Midtjylland angehören. Und auch ist dieser Start ein Zeichen dafür, dass die Mannschaft bis in die Fingerspitzen motiviert ist und der Erfolg der vergangenen Saison kein zufälliger war, wie das Internetportal lead.ro erklärt.



    In der ersten Halbzeit machte die aggressive Verteidigung des CSM dem eher langsamen und unentschlossenen Angriff der Russinnen zu schaffen. Der allgemeine Eindruck war, dass die Bukaresterinnen das bessere Team waren: teils dank der intensiven Abwehr und teils dank der vielseitigeren Lösungen im Angriff, vor allem in den entscheidenden Spielmomenten, als die Gäste den Anschluss suchten. Die logische Folge: eine bequeme 12:10-Führung zur Pause.



    Es wurde ein wenig schwieriger für den Gastgeber im zweiten Durchgang, als Rostow von den ersten Unachtsamkeiten im Spiel der Rumäninnen profitierte. Die Russinnen nutzten die ersten Fehlpässe im Angriff des Titelverteidigers und glichen zum 16:16 aus. Zuletzt hatte es beim Stande von 5:5 einen Gleichstand gegeben. Und hier griff der dänische Trainer des CSM geschickt ein: Vestergaard, der im Frühjahr noch die deutsche Nationalmannschaft trainiert hatte, forderte ein Time-Out, währenddessen er den Spielerinnen einige klare Lösungen vorgab. Die Spielerinnen reagierten positiv und schafften erneut, auf Distanz zu gehen. Und diese Führung sollte bis zum Schluss nicht mehr abgegeben werden.



    Bukarest hatte in der letzten Saison beide Viertelfinal-Begegnungen mit Rostow für sich entschieden. Viele der Experten sind der Ansicht, diese Runde der letzten Acht hätte dem Team den Aufschwung für die Glanzleistungen in der Final-Four-Runde in Budapest gegeben.



    Vor der Partie am Sonntag wurde noch spekuliert, ob der neue Trainer genügend Zeit zur Integration der neuen Spielerinnen und für die Anpassung an den eigenen Stil gehabt hätte. Und die schwere Auslosung bereitete dem CSM-Umfeld nicht weniger Kopfzerbrechen. Zum Glück konnte man zum Auftakt der Champions League sehen, dass selbst Rostow sich im Wiederaufbau befindet. Die neuen Spielerinnen, darunter auch die Olympia-Siegerin Anna Wjachirewa, zeigten eher durchwachsene Leistungen.



    Auf der anderen Seite hat sich gezeigt, dass Torfrau Paula Ungureanu erneut zu den Leistungsträgern zählen könnte, ihre Paraden waren mitunter entscheidend. Auch die von Buducnost gewechselte Außenspielerin Majda Mehmedović mit 5 Treffern und die Weißrussin Anastasja Lobach mit vier Toren gehörten zu den guten Spielerinnen an diesem Abend.



    Genauso wie in der vergangenen Saison kommen die ersten drei Mannschaften weiter. Sollte der CSM Bukarest die Hauptgruppenphase erreichen, was jetzt wohl zur machbaren Aufgabe geworden ist, wird das Team die Punkte aus den direkten Begegnungen mit den zwei anderen Qualifikanten mitnehmen. Vom Papier her scheinen Györ und Rostow zu den Favoriten auf das Weiterkommen zu gehören. Im ersten Gruppenspiel am Samstag hatte sich Györ beim 31:19 gegen Midtylland keine Blöße gegeben. Am 22. Oktober spielt Bukarest auswärts beim dänischen Erstligisten, sechs Tage später gastiert Györ in der rumänischen Hauptstadt.

    Week-end fantastic pentru handbalistele române! Campioana României, CSM Bucureşti, a scris istorie, duminică seara, la Budapesta, obţinând o victorie extraordinară, la care suporterii abia visau. La prima participare în Liga Campionilor, CSM Bucureşti a câştigat cel mai important trofeu intercluburi, după o finală dramatică, cu prelungiri şi tranşată în urma aruncărilor de la şapte metri.



    Deşi considerate outsidere, după un meci senzaţional în semifinale, fetele antrenate de Kim Rasmunssen — văzut ca un strateg de geniu – au luptat ca nişte tigroaice şi au câştigat meciul în fata echipei maghiare Gyor, favorita gazdelor, cu scorul de 29 — 26. Deşi jocul a fost, în general, echilibrat, a avut şi câteva răsturnări de situaţii, care au ţinut suporterii cu sufletul la gură. De menţionat că Isabel Gullden a făcut un meci de senzaţie, cu 14 goluri marcate. De altfel, handbalista suedeză de la CSM Bucureşti a câştigat titlul de golgheter al Ligii Campionilor, cu 108 goluri marcate în acest sezon.



    Disciplina şi motivaţia şi-au spus cuvântul în meciul în care formaţia de la Bucureşti a fost compusă din Pessoa, Grubisic, Iordache, Gullden, Curea, Rodrigues, Jorgernsen, Vărzaru, Bazaliu, Brădeanu, Torstensson, Nan, Vetkova, Martin, Manea, Fisker. Numele Aureliei Brădeanu va fi mult timp, de acum înainte, pe buzele suporterilor, ea fiind cea care a închis tabela la 29 — 26 cu Gyor, după ultima lovitură la şapte metri, pe care nu a ratat-o.



    Aurelia Brădeanu: De când am venit la acest turneu, am crezut în şansa noastră şi tot timpul am crezut că vom câştiga. Am simţit lucrul acesta, că este momentul nostru şi trebuie să câştigăm. Mi-am dorit enorm acest trofeu.


    O altă componentă a lotului, Cristina Vărzaru, a afirmat, după meci, că victoria de duminică este o încununare a unui an în care fetele de la CSM Bucureşti au cunoscut atât succese, cât şi eşecuri. Sunt fericită. Este o realizare enormă pentru handbalul românesc, pentru clubul acesta. Sper din tot sufletul să dureze cât mai mult posibil, pentru că sentimentele pe care le trăim prin intermediul sportului atunci când ridicăm o cupă, când sărutăm o medalie, nu cred că le mai trăim în niciun alt moment. Este o încununare a succesului, a unui an care a fost cu suişuri şi coborâşuri. Am coborât în infern de atâtea ori şi am fost hulite. A trebuit să ne ridicăm şi ne-am ridicat şi am ajuns, astăzi, să ridicăm cupa deasupra capului. A fost foarte greu, a fost o finală adevărată.



    CSM Bucuresti devine a treia echipă din România care cucereşte Cupa Campionilor, aşa cum se numea competiţia în trecut, după performanţele reuşite de Stiinţa Bacău (1960 — 1961) şi Rapid Bucureşti (1963 — 1964).

    Der rumänische Meister HCM Baia Mare hat seine Chance wahrgenommen. Lediglich bei einem Sieg gegen Viborg wäre sich das Maramurescher Team eines Viertelfinal-Einzugs sicher gewesen. Die mit Nationalspielerinnen wie Ungureanu und Elisei gespickte Mannschaft war sich von Beginn an dieser Tatsache bewusst.





    Bereits in der Anfangsphase spielten die Gastgeberinnen vor gut 2000 Zuschauern konzentriert und motiviert. Sie übernahmen sofort die Führung, nach acht Minuten lagen sie mit 5:1, nach fünfzehn Minuten mit 8:3 im Vorteil. Der frühere CL-Sieger aus dem dänischen Viborg hielt auf einmal tapfer dagegen und kam bis auf ein 8:9 heran. Das sollte aber die einzige schwächere Phase im Spiel von Baia Mare bleiben.





    Tone Tisejl, der slowenische Meistertrainer auf der Bank der Rumäninnen, hatte nämlich eine Taktik gewählt, die aufgehen sollte. Er lie‎ß seine Mannschaft überwiegend auf dem rechten Flügel angreifen, wo der Gegner anfällig war. Baia Mares Kreisläuferinnen und die Au‎ßenspielerinnen erwischten einen hervorragenden Tag und Torfrau Paula Ungureanu leistete einmal mehr Unglaubliches. Der rumänische Meister führte zur Halbzeit mit sechs Toren Unterschied und von nun an war die Anspannung so gut wie beseitigt.



    Zumal die Meldungen vom anderen, zeitgleich ausgetragenen Gruppenspiel günstig waren: Der Tabellenzweite und Titelverteidiger aus dem ungarischen Györ führte auswärts bei einem weiteren Mitstreiter um den Einzug ins Viertelfinale, den Französinnen aus Metz, mit 12:8. Wäre der französische Meister unterlegen, hätte der HCM Baia Mare sogar auf den dritten Gruppenplatz klettern können. Und genauso sollte es auch kommen.



    In der zweiten Halbzeit spielten die Rumäninnen befreit auf. Die Niederländerin Lois Abbingh, Luciana Marin, Ada Nechita und die Norwegerin Camilla Herrem im Dress der Gastgeberinnen zogen eine Show auf dem Parkett ab, die auch die anspruchsvollsten Fans befriedigte. Als der Vorsprung auf 10 Tore ausgebaut wurde, feierten die Zuschauer im Stehen.



    Nach dem Schlusspfiff stand es fest: der HCM Baia Mare war mit einem 32:22-Sieg gegen Viborg ins Viertelfinale der Champions League eingezogen. Und da Metz gegen Györ unterlegen war, kletterte die rumänische Mannschaft sogar auf den dritten Gruppenplatz, hinter den gro‎ßen Favoriten der Gruppe, den Norwegerinnen aus Larvik und eben Györ. Jetzt hat das Team aus der Maramuresch laut Experten sogar die gro‎ße Chance auf den Einzug in die Final Four“-Runde in Budapest. Denn im Viertelfinale wartet mit dem russischen Meister Dinamo Wolgograd zwar ein starker, jedoch nicht unbezwingbarer Gegner.
