    Principalul eveniment sportiv al debutului de an este Openul Australiei la tenis, primul turneu de Mare Şlem al anului. Această competiţie majoră a fost precedată de o serie de turnee organizate în regiune, în oraşe precum Brisbane, Sydney sau Auckland. În competiţiile de simplu, sportivii români nu au trecut de faza sferturilor de finală la nici măcar unul dintre aceste turnee. La dublu, cel mai departe a ajuns Monica Niculescu. La Hobart, perechea formată din Monica şi chinezoaica Zhaoxuan Yang s-a oprit, vinerea trecută, în semifinale. Cum acesta a fost cel mai bun rezultat sportiv românesc al ultimelor zile, Radio România Internaţional a desemnat-o pe Monica Niculescu Sportivul Săptămânii.



    La Hobart, unde premiile s-au ridicat la 250 de mii de dolari, cuplul format din Monica Niculescu şi Zhaoxuan Yang a fost al treilea pe lista favoritelor. În primul tur, a trecut de perechea chineză formată din Xinyu Jiang şi Shuai Yhang cu 6-4, 6-2. În sferturile de finală, a venit rândul cuplului format din Raluca Olaru şi Galina Voskoboeba, din Kazahstan, de care Niculescu şi Yang au trecut cu 6-1, 6-4. În semifinale însă, favopritele nr. 3 au dat piept cu perechea cap de serie numărul unu, formată din Hao-Ching Chan şi Latisha Chan din Taiwan, care s-a impus cu 6-3, 6-4. Niculescu şi Yang au primit un cec de 1.718 dolari şi 110 puncte WTA la dublu. Să mai notăm că, la Hobart, Monica Niculescu a fost campioană la dublu în 2012 şi 2014.

Cel mai sus în clasamentul mondial de simplu a urcat în februarie 2012, şi anume pe locul 28. La dublu a urcat până pe 11, în aprilie 2018. Acum se situează pe locul 99 la simplu şi pe 41 la dublu.

    Bukarest: Der EU-Kommissionspräsident Jean-Claude Juncker und das Kommissionskollegium befinden sich in Bukarest für die feierliche Übernahme des Ratsvorsitzes der EU durch Rumänien. An der Veranstaltung beteiligen sich auch der Vorsitzende des EU-Parlaments Antonio Tajani sowie der Präsident des EU-Rates Donald Tusk. Aus diesem Anlass wird heute Abend beim Rumänischen Athäneum in Bukarest das Orchester der Europäischen Union konzertieren, das Programm beinhaltet unter anderen die Rumänische Rhapsodie Nummer 1 von George Enescu sowie die Ode an die Freude von Ludwig van Beethoven, die 1984 zur Hymne der Europäischen Union wurde. Bürgerorganisationen aus Bukarest forderten die Stadtverwaltung auf, parallel zur Eröffnungszeremonie die Organisation einer regierungskritischen Demonstrantion vor dem Athäneum zu genehmigen, die unter dem Motto Wir wollen in Europa, keine Diktatur. Laut der Stadtverwaltung, sei die Organisierung von zwei Veranstaltungen am gleichen Ort und an der gleichen Zeit gesetzlich nicht erlaubt, zudem sehe das Konzert im Bukarester Athäneum scharfe Sicherheitsmaßnahmen vor. Die Initiatoren der Kundgebung sind hingenen der Meinung, dass sich die Demonstranten an diesem Ort aufgrund von Entscheidungen des Europäischen Gerichtshofs für Menschenrechte versammeln dürfen, die das Recht auf freie Meinungsäußerung schützen. Am Freitag soll Jean-Claude Juncker mit dem Staatschef Klaus Iohannis, mit der Premierin Viorica Dăncilă sowie mit den Leitern der zwei Parlamentskammer zu Gesprächen zusammenkommen. Auf dem Programm der EU-Delegation stehen zudem Diskussionen mit rumänischen Ministern.



    Bukarest: Die französische Europaministerin Nathalie Loiseau besucht Bukarest vom 9. bis 11. Januar, wo sie mit den rumänischen Entscheidungsträgern Gespräche über den Gipfel in Sibiu führen wird. Dabei soll Loiseau die Unterstützung Frankreichs für die rumänische Präsidentschaft des EU-Rates bekräftigen. Die französische Ministerin soll heute auch mit der Premierministerin Viorica Dancila und dem Minister für Europaangelegenheiten George Ciamba, zu Gesprächen zusammenkommen. Laut der französischen Botschaft in Bukarest wird Nathalie Loiseau die Unterstützung Frankreichs für eine erfolgreiche rumänische EU-Ratspräsidentschaft zum Ausdruck bringen.



    Brüssel: Transporter aus Rumänien und anderen osteuropäischen Staaten haben vor dem Europäischen Parlament gegen die Gesetzesänderung in diesem Bereich protestiert. Am Donnerstag wurde im Verkehrsausschuss über die neuen Regelungen abgestimmt. Laut den Demonstranten, seien die Vorschläge des Mobilitätspakets vor dem Hintergrund eines wachsenden Protektionismus der westeuropäischen Staaten gedacht worden und die Transporter in Ost- und Südosteuropa seien von den besagten Maßnahmen stark betroffen. Die besagten Maßnahmen würden laut den osteuropäischen Transportern zu deutlich höheren Betriebskosten und Einschränkungen für den internationalen Straßentransport innerhalb der Gemeinschaft führen. Eine der Maßnahmen verbietet die wöchentliche Ruhezeit in der LKW-Kabine. Eine weitere Maßnahme betrifft die Verpflichtung der Fahrer, mindestens alle vier Wochen nach Hause zurückzukehren. Maßnahmen beziehen sich auch auf die Verpflichtung, alle internationalen Transportfahrzeuge bis Ende 2024 mit einem intelligenten Fahrtenschreiber auszustatten.



    Bukarest: Der rumänische Außenminister Teodor Melescanu ist am Donnerstag in Bukarest mit seinem polnischen Gegenüber Jacek Czaputowicz zu Gesprächen zusammengekommen. Die beiden haben den Stand der Verwirklichung der gemeinsamen Ziele auf bilateraler, regionaler, europäischer und multilateraler Ebene überprüft und die kurz- und mittelfristigen Ziele der rumänisch-polnischen Zusammenarbeit festgelegt. In Bezug auf den rumänischen Vorsitz beim EU-Rat sagte Teodor Melescanu, Bukarest werde sich auf die Förderung des Zusammenhalts als gemeinsamen europäischen Wert konzentrieren, auf die Überwindung der Spaltung zwischen den Mitgliedstaaten und auf die Suche nach Möglichkeiten, die Rolle der EU zu festigen.



    Sport: Die rumänische Tennisspielerin Irina Begu trifft am Donnerstag im Viertelfinale des Tourniers in Hobart, Australien, auf die Slowenin Anna Karolina Schmiedlova. Beim mit 250.000 Dollar dotierten Tournier ist das rumänisch-chinesische Doppel Monica Niculescu – Zhaoxuan Yang am Mittwoch 6-1, 6-4 nach dem Sieg gegen das rumänisch-kasachische Doppel Raluca Olaru/Galina Voskoboeva ins Halbfinale eingezogen. Die Weltranglistenerste Simona Halep ist Favoritin beim ersten Grand Slam Tournier des Jahres, Australian Open.

    Présidence – Le président de la Commission européenne, Jean-Claude Juncker, et les membres du Collège des
    Commissaires seront présents aujourd’hui à Bucarest pour la cérémonie
    officielle de lancement de la Présidence roumaine du Conseil de l’UE. A
    l’événement participeront également le président du Parlement européen, Antonio
    Tajani, et celui du Conseil européen, Donald Tusk. Le moment sera marqué par un
    concert donné à l’Athénée Roumain par l’Orchestre des jeunes de l’UE, qui interprétera la Rhapsodie roumaine n° 1 de
    George Enescu et l’Ode à la joie, de Ludwig van Beethoven, l’hymne européen
    depuis 1985. Des organisations civiques ont demandé l’accord de la mairie de
    Bucarest pour organiser au même moment un rassemblement anti-gouvernemental
    devant l’Athénée sous le slogan « Nous voulons l’Europe, non pas la
    dictature ! ». Un adjoint au maire de la capitale soutient que la loi
    ne permet pas l’organisation de deux événements au même endroit et que la
    présence des membres de la Commission européenne demande des mesures de
    sécurité renforcées. Les manifestants anti-gouvernementaux ont néanmoins
    maintenu le rassemblement, car ils s’estiment protégés par la Cour européenne
    des droits de l’homme qui garantit la liberté d’expression. Vendredi,
    Jean-Claude Juncker rencontrera le président roumain Klaus Iohannis et la
    première ministre Viorica Dăncilă, ainsi que les présidents des deux chambres
    du Parlement de Bucarest. Les responsables européens auront également des
    entretiens avec les ministres roumains qui mèneront, pendant les six prochains
    mois, des réunions de travail avec leurs homologues des Etats membres à
    Bucarest et à Bruxelles.


    Transporteurs – Les transporteurs de Roumanie et d’autres pays
    d’Europe de l’Est protestent aujourd’hui devant le Parlement européen contre le
    changement des lois dans le domaine des transports, alors que les eurodéputés
    de la commission Transports sont en train de voter de nouvelles
    réglementations. Les manifestants déclarent que les propositions concernant la
    mobilité montrent un protectionnisme croissant des Etats de l’ouest de l’Europe
    et que ce sont les transporteurs de l’Est et du Sud-ouest du continent qui en
    seront affectés. Selon eux, les mesures proposées entraîneront une croissance
    significative des coûts de fonctionnement et elles restreindront les transports
    routiers internationaux dans l’espace communautaire. Par exemple, une des
    mesures interdit de passer la période de repos hebdomadaire dans la cabine du
    véhicule. Une autre vise à ce que les chauffeurs soient présents à leur
    domicile au moins toutes les quatre semaines.






















    Entretien – Le ministre roumain des affaires
    étrangères, Teodor Meleșcanu, s’est entretenu à Bucarest avec son homologue
    polonais, Jacek Czaputowicz. Les pourparlers ont porté sur la réalisation des
    objectifs communs aux niveaux bilatéral, régional, européen et multilatéral,
    ainsi que sur les principaux repères de la collaboration entre la Roumanie et
    la Pologne à court et moyen terme. Le chef de la diplomatie roumaine a affirmé,
    dans le contexte, que, pendant son mandat à la tête de l’Union européenne,
    Bucarest insistera pour mettre en avant de la cohésion en tant que valeur
    européenne commune, pour faire surmonter les divergences entre les différents
    membres de l’UE et pour identifier de nouvelles modalités pour consolider le
    rôle de l’Union. Par
    ailleurs, à l’occasion d’un siècle de relations diplomatique entre Bucarest et
    Varsovie, le ministre polonais des
    affaires étrangères, Jacek Czaputowicz, s’est vu remettre par son homologue
    roumain une copie numérique de 294 dossiers d’archives couvrant la période 1918
    – 1947.


    Visite – La
    ministre française chargée des affaires européennes, Nathalie Loiseau, fait une
    visite à Bucarest du 9 au 11 janvier. Ses pourparlers avec les responsables
    roumains porteront sur l’organisation du sommet de l’Union européenne de Sibiu
    (centre de la Roumanie) et sur le soutien accordé par la France à la présidence
    roumaine du Conseil de l’UE. La ministre française est reçue aujourd’hui par la
    première ministre roumaine Viorica Dăncilă et s’entretiendra avec son homologue
    au gouvernement de Bucarest, George Ciamba. Selon l’ambassade de France en
    Roumanie, Mme Nathalie Loiseau « exprimera le soutien de la France à la
    réussite de la présidence roumaine du Conseil de l’UE, qui aura à traiter
    d’enjeux majeurs ».


    Tennis – La joueuse roumaine de tennis Irina-Camelia Begu vient de
    perdre, 5-7, 5-7 devant la slovaque Anna Karolina Schmiedlova dans les quarts
    de finale du tournoi WTA de Hobart, en Australie. Irina Begu, accompagnée par Mihaela
    Buzărnescu, a aussi été vaincue dans les quarts de finale de double par la
    paire Anastasia Potapova de Russie – Daiana Iastremska d’Ukraine, score final
    4-6, 6-7. Toujours à Hobart, le double formé de la roumaine Monica Niculescu et
    la chinoise Zhaoxuan Yang s’est qualifié mercredi dans les demi-finales de
    l’épreuve de double, en s’imposant en deux sets, 6-1, 6-4, devant le double
    roumano-kazakhe Raluca Olaru-Galina Voskoboeva.








    Volley-ball – La sélection de volley-ball
    féminin de Roumanie s’est qualifiée aux Championnats européens de cette année,
    après une victoire dramatique, en 5 sets (25-17,
    19-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-9), devant la sélection similaire de Bosnie-Herzégovine,
    dans son dernier match, en déplacement, du Groupe F de qualification. Les
    Roumaines, sous la direction du coach bulgare Nikolai Ivanov, ont terminé sur
    la deuxième position dans leur groupe, derrière les Espagnoles. Le tournoi
    final du Championnat européen sera organisé conjointement, du 23 août au 8
    septembre, par la Hongrie, la Pologne, la Slovaquie et la Turquie. Nous vous
    rappelons que la sélection de volley-ball masculin de Roumanie sera elle aussi
    présente, après 23 ans d’absence, au tournoi final du Championnat européen de
    2019, accueilli par la Belgique, la France, les Pays-Bas et la Slovénie.

A number of Romanian tennis players have this week taken part in the aforementioned events, with mixed results.



    In the mens singles at Auckland, a tournament with 527,880 dollars in prize money, Marius Copil sustained an early, first-round defeat by his American opponent Taylor Fritz, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. In the mens doubles and also in the first round, the Romanian – Dutch pair made of Horia Tecau and Jean Julien Rojer was outclassed by the all-American pair, Bob and Mike Bryan, 3-6, 7-6 and 11-9, in super tie break.



    In Sydney, where the prize money amounts to 832,000 dollars, WTA number 1 Simona Halep sustained a first-round defeat by Australias Ashleigh Barty, 6-4, 6-4, in a debut game for Simona in 2019.

    Council of the EU – Romania’s vision as president of the Council of the EU is that of a Europe of cohesion, this being one of Romania’s top priorities during its 6-month mandate, said the Minister Delegate for European Affairs, George Ciamba on Monday. According to him another key objective is to negotiate the future financial framework for the period 2021-2027. He reminded the 4 pillars of Romania’s presidency of the Council of the EU: a Europe of convergence, a Europe of safety, Europe as a regional actor and a Europe of common values.



    Appointments — The Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Monday signed the decrees for appointing the incumbent finance minister Eugen Teodorovici as interim deputy prime minister and minister for regional development and public administration and the incumbent minister for European funds, Rovana Plumb, as interim transport minister. The PM Viorica Dancila made the proposals forwarded to the president to ensure the continuity of the activity of the two ministries, shows a government communiqué. The government officials said they were still expecting the president’s motivation for having rejected the previous proposals for the transport and development ministries. On Friday president Iohannis had announced he would reject the proposals made for the respective ministries namely Lia Olguta Vasilescu and Mihai Draghici and that he would motivate his decision this very week. On Thursday Klaus Iohannis signed the decrees ascertaining the vacancies of the two ministerial positions.



    Council of Magistracy — On Monday the Prosecutors’ Section of the Superior Council of Magistracy acknowledged the withdrawal of Anca Jurma’s agreement with being delegated to the position of interim chief prosecutor of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate- DNA. The justice minister, Tudorel Toader, explained that Anca Jurma no longer wanted to occupy that position, her decision being a strictly personal matter. Her decision was conveyed to the Prosecutors’ Section, whose agenda for Monday’s meeting also included extending Anca Jurma’s mandate at the helm of the DNA for another 6 months. Anca Jurma was appointed for this position by the general prosecutor Augustin Lazar in July 2018 after the dismissal of the chief prosecutor of the DNA, Laura Codruta Kovesi. Previously Anca Jurma had held two mandates as chief of the international cooperation service. Her withdrawal takes place in the context in which the justice minister forwarded again to president Iohannis the proposals for the appointment of 5 prosecutors as chiefs of the prosecutors’ offices. President Iohannis pointed out that the proposals were being analyzed by the line department within the Presidential Administration.



    Tennis — The Romanian tennis player Irina Begu (67 WTA) on Monday qualified to the eighth finals of the WTA tournament in Hobart, Australia after defeating Heather Watson (44 WTA) of Great Britain 2-0. Also on Monday, in the same competition, another Romanian Ana Bogdan (76 WTA) was eliminated in the first round by Tunisian Ons Jabeur (60 WTA). The world’s no. 1 player Simona Halep is participating in the WTA tournament in Sydney that started on Monday. A Premier category competition the Sydney tournament has total prizes worth 823,000 dollars. Simona Halep will play directly in the second round against the winner of the match pitting Latvian Jelena Ostapenko (22 WTA) against Australian Ashleigh Barty (15 WTA). (translated by L. Simion)

    MEETING Romanian president Klaus Iohannis on Friday participated in the informal meeting of heads of state from Bulgaria, Austria and Romania held in the Bulgarian city of Ruse. The three countries are successively holding the presidency of the EU Council this year and in the first semester of 2019. Talks focused on the present European agenda and were aimed at facilitating the best coordination and cooperation during the three EU Council presidencies. Romania will take over the EU presidency in the first semester of 2019. Also on Friday, President Iohannis participated with his Bulgarian and Austrian counterparts, Rumen Radev and Alexander Van der Bellen respectively in a conference on the ‘Sustainable Development of the Danube Region and Regional Interconnection. Iohannis pointed out that the EU must become stronger and that differences in the economic development of its regions must be constantly reduced. The history of the EU development has shown that ‘our strength resides in unity, solidarity, cohesion and a future vision, ambitious and innovative. These guiding principles and values are at the foundation of the European project. Romania believes they must remain the foundation of its future development for our common benefit, the Romanian official went on to say, adding that ‘the EU remains an indispensable project.




    SYMBOL Romanias president Klaus Iohannis has described professor Doina Cornea, who died last night at the age of 89, as ‘a symbol of the Romanian courage and anti-communist resistance. The head of the Romanian state has conveyed a message of condolences to the family and all those who knew and loved the anti-communist campaigner who was Doina Cornea. Numerous personalities from Romanias political, cultural and civil society have deplored the death of the one who back in 1982 became known for her public criticism against Nicolae Ceausescus dictatorship; her anti-communist activity was made public by the international radio stations with programmes in Romanian.     CONTRACT A contract has been signed in Bucharest today for the purchase of 227 Piranha armored fighting vehicles.     TOUR Japans Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has today left Tokyo on a diplomatic tour to Central and Eastern Europe, which takes him to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania. The Japanese official is trying to rally support for Tokyos firm stand against North Korea, France Press reports. This is the first such visit paid by a Japanese Premier to the region. The Japanese official is to be received by president Klaus Iohannis in Bucharest on Tuesday. The talks agenda includes the stage and prospects in the process of strengthening the very good relations of the Renewed Partnership between Romania and Japan at political, economic and cultural level as well as in terms of security and human relations, the Romanian presidency has announced.     GDP According to data released today by the National Institute for Statistics, in the third quarter of 2017, Romanias GDP registered an 8.8% growth as compared to the same period of 2016. The same data reveal the GDP saw a 7% rise in nine months. As compared to the second quarter of 2017, the GDP was 2.6% higher in the third quarter. The World Bank announced two days ago that it expected Romania to report a 6.4% GDP growth for 2017 against a June forecast of 4.4%. In November 2017, the National Forecast Committee revised up its forecast on Romanias economic growth from an earlier 5.6% to 6.1%. The IMF has also revised up its forecasts on Romanias economic development in 2017 from 4.2% to 5.5%.




    HANDBALL In Bolzano, Italy, Romanias national handball side will be playing the Faeroe Islands in the qualifiers for the 2019 World Handball Championship due in Germany and Denmark. On Thursday, the Romanian side coached by Spanish Xavier Pasqual, outperformed Italy 34 – 24 and is to take on Ukraine on Saturday. The games are played in the qualifiers group 3. 13 teams from Europe will be playing in the World Championships. Three European sides have already been qualified: champion side France as well as the host countries, Germany and Denmark.

    Romania — Ukraine — The Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu will meet Thursday in Cernăuţi, western Ukraine, with his Ukrainian counterpart, Pavlo Klimkin. According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, talks will focus on bilateral cooperation, on ensuring education rights for the Romanian minority in Ukraine and the implementation of the conclusions of the Venice Commission in the new education law of Ukraine. The agenda of the meeting also includes meetings with the leaders of the regional administration and of the local council of Cernăuţi, as well as with representatives of the Romanian community in the region. We recall that the version of the law passed by the Ukrainian Parliament and promulgated by president Petro Poroshenko in September 2017 severely limited the access of ethnic minorities to education in their mother tongue. The Romanian community in Ukraine numbers almost half a million people.



    Justice — The Romanian justice minister, Tudorel Toader, announced that, on January 16, he would hold talks in Strasbourg with the president of the European Court of Human Rights — ECHR, Guido Raimondi, about the roadmap for complying with the requirements of the pilot-decision regarding conditions in Romania’s penitentiaries. Minister Toader pointed out that a memorandum on the issue would be submitted to the Romanian government for approval and that, on January 22, the document would be sent to the Court. In April 2017 the ECHR ruled a pilot-decision against Romania in which it notified the existence of problems related to overcrowding in penitentiaries and detention centers. On the same occasion, the ECHR recommended the authorities to take further measures, both related to logistics and criminal policy, and granted Romania a 6-month deadline for drafting a coherent plan on the matter. Also the Court decided to suspend the examination of all files that denounced the improper conditions in Romania’s penitentiaries.



    Economy — Romania’s economy will report an economic growth rate of 4,5% in 2018 and of 4.1% in 2019 as against the June estimates of 3.7% and 3.5% respectively, World Bank officials say. In the ‘Global Economic Prospects’ report, the WB expects Romania to report a 6.4% growth of the GDP for 2017 as compared to the previous estimate of 4.4%. Economic growth is to diminish in 2020, when Romania’s economy will report an advance of 3.5%. The WB considers that new privatizations in Central Europe (which includes Romania, Poland, Hungary and Bulgaria) represent an opportunity for increasing productivity. In Romania, several state enterprises were depoliticised and their Boards of Directors were populated with professionals between 2013–2016, the report also shows.



    Chişinău — The 7 new ministers appointed in the government of the Republic of Moldova were sworn in on Wednesday. The appointment decrees were signed by the speaker of Parliament, Andrian Candu, who has taken over the interim presidency of the state, after the pro-Russian president Igor Dodon refused to exert his constitutional prerogatives. Also Candu promulgated the law against propaganda, which provides, among other things, for restrictions as to the re-broadcasting in the Republic of Moldova of political TV programs broadcast in Russia. The Constitutional Court ruled, last week, that president Dodon’s deliberate refusal to comply with his obligation of appointing new members of the government and of promulgating the law represented an infringement of constitutional responsibilities.



    Tennis — The Romanian tennis player Monica Niculescu on Wednesday defeated the American player Varvara Lepchenko 6-4, 6-2 in the eighth finals of the Hobart tournament of Australia. The tournament has total prizes up for grabs worth almost 225 thousand dollars.     Ambassadors — The Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Meleşcanu on Wednesday met with the ambassadors of the Arab states accredited to Bucharest. On the occasion, minister Meleşcanu said that one of the priorities of Romania’s foreign policy was to develop political and economic relations with the Group of Arab states. At the same time, the Romanian Foreign Minister reiterated the need for the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by implementing the solution of the two states, Israel and Palestine, which should co-exist in peace and security. In turn, the representatives of the Group of Arab states appreciated the role of Romania as an active promoter of a peaceful resolution of conflicts and Bucharest’s constant support for a policy of dialogue and negotiations.     neuen Sitzung des Exekutiv-Kommittees der Partei im nordrumänischen Iaşi zur
    Sprache kommen. Die Koalitionsregierung, der auch der Junior-Partner der PSD,
    die ALDE, angehört, umfasst 27 Ministerposten. Davon sind drei stellvertretende

    Bukarest: Die rumänische Innenministerin Carmen Dan zieht Konsequenzen aus einem Skandal, bei dem es um die mutmaßliche Verwicklung eines Beamten der Verkehrspolizei in mehrere Fälle sexuellen Missbrauchs von Kindern geht. Der Mann könnte hinter einer Reihe bisher ungeklärter Belästigungsfälle stecken, glauben Ermittler. Die Ministerin will jetzt Polizeichef Bogdan Despescu, aber auch den Chef der Innenrevision bei der Verkehrspolizei und den Leiter des Morddezernats bei der Polizei Bukarest entlassen.     Bukarest: Rumänien hat in den ersten 11 Monaten des Jahres 2017 ein Handelsdefizit von rund 11,35 Milliarden Euro eingefahren – das sind fast 2,6 Milliarden Euro oder rund 30% mehr als im selben Zeitraum von 2016. Das gab am Dienstag das nationale Statistikinstitut bekannt. Die Exporte stiegen somit um 9,5% auf über 58 Milliarden Euro, die Importe um 12,3% auf fast 70 Milliarden Euro.



    Bukarest: Die beiden Bukarester Flughäfen Henri Coandă in Otopeni und Aurel Vlaicu im Stadtteil Băneasa haben letztes Jahr einen Rekord an Fahrgästen aufgestellt – fast 13 Millionen Passagiere, 16,8% mehr als 2016, fertigten die beiden Flugplätze ab.     CABINET – Romanias Social Democratic Prime Minister Mihai Tudose this morning sent to President Klaus Iohannis the nomination of Senator Ioan Deneş for the Water and Forestry Minister post.     DIPLOMACY – The Minister Delegate for European Affairs, Victor Negrescu, discussed in The Hague on Monday with the Dutch Foreign Minister Halbe Zijlstra about Romanias Schengen accession and the relations between the two countries as EU members, particularly the good economic relations. The two officials also looked at the key elements currently on the European agenda, including the Multiannual Financial Framework, the future of the EU and the common defence policy, in the context of Romania holding the rotating presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2019. Known for the successive EU-wide campaigns for Romanias Schengen accession, including a petition, #RomâniaCereSchengen, signed by tens of thousands of Romanians and submitted to the European Parliament, the Minister Delegate for European Affairs suggested a vote in the Justice and Home Affairs Council. The Netherlands has repeatedly opposed Romanias joining the border-free area, on grounds of insufficient judicial reforms.




    AIRPORTS – Bucharests 2 international airports, Henri Coandă and Băneasa, reported for 2017 record-large passenger numbers: nearly 13 million, which is 16.8% more than in 2016. According to the National Airport Corporation, in 2017 the number of takeoffs and landings was also 7.7% higher than in the previous year, reaching 130,000. In fact, Airports Council International-Europe has ranked Henri Coandă as one of Europes top 5 airports in terms of the increase in air traffic figures in the first 10 months of the year, in the category of airports with 10-25 million passengers a year. Henri Coandă airport came ahead of the international airports in Lisbon, Berlin, Brussels, Athens, Milan, Prague and Budapest.




    TRADE – Romania continued to import more than it exported last year, and the trade deficit deepened by nearly 3%, according to the National Statistics Institute. Although exports grew by around 9%, they remain below imports, generating a trade deficit of 1.12 billion euro. The most important trade partners were EU member states.




    ETHNIC AUTONOMY – Officials for 3 political entities representing the interests of ethnic Hungarians in Romania, including the Democratic Union of Ethnic Hungarians in Romania, a parliamentary party, Monday agreed to propose territorial, local and cultural autonomy for the so-called Szeckler County, a region in central Romania where ethnic Hungarians outnumber the other communities. The leaders of the other parliamentary parties in Power and in Opposition dismissed the idea as unconstitutional. They argued that Romania is one of the countries where the Hungarian minority enjoys the most extensive rights, and ruled out any autonomy negotiations. According to them, the initiative stands no chances because it comes against the requirements of a democratic system and fuels division within society.

Competiţia, dotată cu premii în valoare totală de 226.750 de dolari, a fost ultima dinaintea Openului Australiei, ale cărui jocuri de pe tablourile principale au debutat luni. Pentru victoria din capitala Tasmaniei, Radio România Internaţional a desemnat‑o pe Raluca Olaru, pentru a doua săptămână la rând, Sportivul Săptămânii.



    La Hobart, Olaru şi Savciuk veneau după un parcurs excelent în turneul anterior, disputat la Shenzen, în China, unde ajunseseră până în finală.     Ioana Raluca Olaru s-a născut la 3 martie 1989, la Bucureşti. Joacă în turnee profesioniste de la 14 ani. A câştigat, în carieră, 6 turnee de dublu. La simplu, a ajuns o singură dată într-o finală de turneu WTA, şi anume la Linz, în 2009, unde a fost învinsă de Andrea Petkovic, din Germania. In acest moment, este a doua româncă din clasamentul WTA la dublu, unde ocupă locul 63, fiind depăşită doar de Monica Niculescu, situată pe locul 19.

    Renseignements – Le chef du Service roumain de renseignement, Eduard Hellvig, a ordonné la création d’une commission spécialisée censée examiner les accusations formulées contre son directeur adjoint, le général Florian Coldea. Celui-ci a été accusé d’avoir commis nombre d’illégalités par l’ancien député Sebastian Ghita, qui fait à son tour l’objet de plusieurs dossiers de corruption et qui est en plus introuvable. Florian Coldea est donc suspendu de ses fonctions pendant l’enquête de la commission spécialisée. C’est Eduard Hellvig lui-même qui remplit temporairement les attributions de son premier adjoint. Selon la porte-parole de la présidence, avant cette décision, le président Klaus Iohannis avait convoqué le général Coldea pour une discussion.

    OTAN – Le général Michael Flynn, nommé par le président élu des Etats – Unis aux fonctions de conseiller en sécurité nationale, s’est entretenu au téléphone avec l’ambassadeur de Roumanie à Washington, George Maior. L’occasion pour le responsable américain d’apprécier l’engagement et le rôle de la Roumanie au sein de l’OTAN. Et M Flynn d’ajouter que l’OTAN reste une alliance fondamentale pour les Etats-Unis, dans le cadre de laquelle tous les membres doivent contribuer pour le bien-être commun. A son tour, l’ambassadeur roumain a assuré que Bucarest allouerait 2% du BIP à la Défense et renforcerait les capacités nécessaires.

    Energie – Le gouvernement de Bucarest a approuvé une décision qui permet entre autres d’interdire les exportations d’électricité en situation de crise, pour la période du 16 janvier au 15 février 2017. Cette décision a été prise dans le contexte où le ministre de l’Energie, Toma Petcu, a présenté une analyse du fonctionnement du Système énergétique national au cours de 6 jours d’hiver marqués par des niveaux record de consommation de gaz et d’électricité. La décision tient compte des prévisions météo pour les semaines à venir et de l’évolution des stocks de combustibles, précise le ministère de l’Energie de Bucarest.

    Tennis – La joueuse roumaine de tennis Monica Niculescu (40e WTA) s’est qualifiée pour la finale du tournoi de Hobart en Australie, après l’abandon de l’Ukrainienne Lesia Tsurenko. Der Zugverkehr wurde durch die extremen Wetterbedingungen stark beeinträchtigt, über 100 Züge wurden am Donnerstag gestrichen. Die Schulen und Kindergärten in der Hauptstadt Bukarest und in 12 Landkreisen bleiben bis Montag geschlossen.



    Bukarest: Die rumänische Regierung ist ermächtigt, Eilverordnungen zu verabschieden. Dies hat am Donnerstag das Verfassungsgericht beschlossen und somit den entsprechenden Antrag der Nationalliberalen Partei, der Union Rettet Rumänien und der Partei Volksbewegung zurückgewiesen. Laut besagtem Antrag der Opposition würde das Ermächtigungsgesetz dem Kabinett von Sorin Grindeanu erlauben, organische Gesetze durch Änderungsanträge ändern zu lassen und das sei verfassungswidrig. Der Vorsitzende der regierenden Sozialdemokratischen Partei, Liviu Dragnea, sagte in diesem Zusammenhang, die Klage der Opposition sei ein reiner Versuch, die Aktivität der Regierung zu blockieren.



    Bukarest: Der rumänische Staatspräsident, Klaus Iohannis, hat am Donnerstag das Gesetz zur Abänderung zweier Steuerregelungen verabschiedet. Es geht dabei um die Aufhebung der Sozialbeiträge für Rentner und die Nichtbesteuerung von Renten unter 2.000 Lei (umg. 450 Euro). Die Abgeordnetenkammer des Bukarester Parlaments hatte das Gesetzesprojekt mit 207 Stimmen dafür und 29 Stimmen dagegen angenommen.



    Bukarest: Rumänien erfüllt alle Kriterien, damit der Kooperations- und Überprüfungsmechanismus dieses Jahr aufgehoben wird. Dies erklärte am Donnerstag der rumänische Justizminister Florin Iordache nach Gesprächen mit der stellvertretenden Generalsekretärin der Europäischen Kommission, Paraskevi Michou. Rumänien und Bulgarien wurden 2007 beim EU-Beitritt unter den europäischen Kooperations- und Überprüfungsmechanismus gestellt und zu einem stärkeren Einsatz im Kampf gegen Korruption und organisiertes Verbrechen gemahnt. Rumänien habe bedeutende Schritte in die richtige Richtung gemacht, die Justiz reformiert, wichtige Staatsinstitutionen konsolidiert, die dafür sorgen, dass die Prinzipien des Rechtsstaates eingehalten werden, so Justizminister Iordache.



    Bukarest: Hunderte Menschen haben am Mittwoch nachmittag in Bukarest und im nordwestrumänischen Cluj den Rücktritt des Ombudsmanns Victor Ciorbea gefordert. Vor kurzem war Ciorbea mit einer Klage beim Verfassungsgericht gegen ein Gesetz vorgegangen, das vorbestraften Politikern den Einzug in die Regierung verbietet. Auch die Unvereinbarkeit von Amt und Mandat wird vom besagten Gesetz geregelt. Laut Ciorbea gebe es gründliche Argumente gegen derartige Bestimmungen. Die Protestierenden meinen, dass es abstoßend und unzulässig sei, in einem EU-Land darüber zu diskutieren, ob eine vorbestrafte Person ein hohes Amt im Land bekleiden darf, und dass die Integrität nicht verhandelbar sei. Victor Ciorbea wies die Vorwürfe zurück, laut denen er dieses Thema mit dem Vorsitzenden der regierenden Sozialdemokratischen Partei PSD diskutiert habe. Der Vorsitzende der Abgeordnetenkammer und PSD-Vorsitzende, Liviu Dragnea, konnte trotz des deutlichen Wahlsiegs seiner Partei bei den Parlamentswahlen von Dezember 2016 für das Amt des Ministerpräsidenten nicht nominiert werden. 2016 war er wegen Wahlbetrugs zu einer zweijährigen Freiheitsstrafe zur Bewährung verurteilt worden. Liviu Dragnea soll 2012 beim Referendum zur Amtsenthebung von ex-Präsident Traian Băsescu seinen Einfluss als Kreisratsvorsitzender missbraucht haben, um die Lokalbehörden zum Wahlbetrug anzustiften.



    Sport: Die rumänische Tennisspielerin Monica Niculescu (Platz 40 WTA) ist am Donnerstag ins Halbfinale des Turniers in Hobart eingestiegen. Das Turnier in Australien wird mit Preisen im Gesamtwert von über 225.000 Dollar dotiert. Im Viertelfinale setzte sich Niculescu gegen die Japanerin Risa Ozaki in zwei Sätzen, 6-4, 6-4 durch. Im Halbfinale trifft die Rumänin auf Lesia Tsurenko, aus der Ukraine. Im Doppelwettbewerb haben die Rumänin Raluca Olaru und die Ukrainerin Olga Savciuk den Einzug ins Viertelfinale geschafft. Olaru und Savciuk setzten sich ebenfalls in zwei Sätzen, 6-4, 6-2 gegen das Doppel Kiki Bertens (Niederlande)/Johanna Larsson (Schweden) durch. Das rumänisch-ukrainische Doppel trifft im Halbfinale auf Liudmila und Nadia Kicenok, ebenfalls aus der Ukraine.
