    Athlete of the Week

    Several days ago, the Lithuanian city of Kaunas played venue
    for the European Figure Skating Championships where Romania was represented by
    two athletes, Julia Sauter şi Ana Sofia Beşchea. After the short programme, Sauter
    ranked 10th with 58.59 points while Beşchea came in last with 37.52 points.




    Sauter went further into the freestyle contest which she
    ended on the ninth position with 109.81 points. Julia Sauter eventually ranked
    ninth in the competition thus obtaining the best performance in the recorded history
    of the Romanian figure skating. And for this performance, Radio Romania
    International has designated Julia Sauter, athlete of the week.




    Julia Franziska Sauter was born in Weingarten, Germany on
    June 18, 1997. She is currently competing for CSU, a sports club based in Braşov
    southern Romania. As a junior she competed for Germany until the age of 14 and
    in 2011 she decided to obtain performances for Romania. She stayed one year outside
    competitions and in 2013 she participated for the first time for Romania in an
    international competition. She has made a constant progress and went 35th
    in the European Championships in 2015. A year later she went 27th
    and then 25th in 2017.




    In 2019, in Minsk, Julia Sauter ranked 14th
    outperforming the best Romanian skater until that time, Roxana Luca, who in 2005
    came 15th in the European Championship. Roxana Luca, now Hartmann,
    has been part of the Julia Sauter’s team, helping her with choreography. Julia’s
    progress continued with a tenth place in Espoo, Finland in 2023, a performance,
    which she overcame this year. Julia
    Sauter has been training since the age of 12 under the guidance of Marius
    Negrea, a former athlete who represented Romania in two winter editions of the
    Olympic Games: in Albertville, in 1992, and Lillehammer, in 1994. She is presently
    training in Germany and married US hockey player Robbie Czarnik. After playing
    in the American Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League, Czarnik went to
    Germany and is currently playing for second leaguers Ravensburg Towerstars. (bill)

    La Kaunas, în Lituania, s-au desfăşurat, zilele trecute, Campionatele Europene de patinaj artistic. România a fost reprezentată de două sportive: Julia Sauter şi Ana Sofia Beşchea. După programul scurt, Sauter s-a situat pe locul 10, după ce a acumulat 58,59 puncte, iar Beşchea – pe ultimul loc, cu 37,52 puncte. Sauter a mers mai departe, la programul liber, unde, cu 109, 81 puncte, s-a clasat a noua. În final, la total, Julia Sauter a ocupat locul 9, realizând astfel cea mai mare performanţă din istoria patinajului artistic românesc. Drept urmare, Radio România Internaţional a desemnat-o Sportivul Săptămânii.



    Julia Franziska Sauter s-a născut în Germania, la Weingarten, landul Baden-Württemberg, în data de 18 iunie 1997. Este legitimată la clubul CSU Braşov. Ca junioare, a concurat pentru Germania până la 14 ani. În 2011 a decis să facă performanţă pentru România. A stat un an fără a participă la competiţii, iar în 2013 şi-a făcut prima apariţie internaţională sub culorile României. A progresat lent, dar constant.



    La Europene s-a clasat pe locul 35, în 2015, apoi pe 27, un an mai târziu, şi pe 25, în 2017. În 2019, la Minsk, atunci când s-a clasat pe locul 14, a depăşit performanţa celei mai titrate patinatoare române, Roxana Luca, sportivă care a ocupat locul 15 la Europenele din 2005. De remarcat este faptul că Roxana Luca, astăzi Hartmann, face acum parte din echipa Juliei Sauter, ocupându-se de coregrafie. Progresul Juliei a continuat, iar în 2023, la Espoo, în Finlanda, a ocupat locul 10, performanţă pe care a depăşit-o anul acesta.



    Julia Sauter este antrenată, de la vârsta de 12 ani, de Marius Negrea, sportiv care a reprezentat România la două ediţii ale Jocurilor Olimpice de iarnă: la Albertville, în 1992, şi la Lillehammer, în 1994. Se pregăteşte în Germania. S-a căsătorit în 2021 cu hocheistul american Robbie Czarnik. Acesta, după ce a jucat la echipe din American Hockey League şi East Coast Hockey League, a urmat-o în Germania, unde joacă pentru Ravensburg Towerstars, în liga secundă.

    Julia Sauter, Romanias representative at the European Figure Skating Championship hosted by the Lithuanian city of Kaunas came 9th in the womens contest, obtaining the best Romanian performance ever in such a continental championship. The contest was won by Lorena Hendrickx of Belgium.


    On Tuesday, Romanias male side will be taking on Serbia in a fight for the 7th position at the European Water polo Championship underway in Croatia. On Sunday in the first match for the fifth and eighth positions, our athletes conceded an 18-11 defeat to Montenegro. Qualification for the quarter finals has ensured the Romanian side the tickets for the World Championships in Qatar.



    At the European Handball Championships underway in Germany, Romania on Sunday registered their second failure, being defeated by Spain 36- 24 in a Group B match. They also lost to Austria 24- 31 on Friday. The mens handball side of Romania has been attending the aforementioned championship after a break of 28 years.



    Both womens teams representing Romania in the Champions League conceded defeats on Sunday. In Bucharest, local side Rapid lost to French side Metz 31-34, and after 10 games is ranking 7th in group B. Romanias champions, CSM Bucharest, were defeated by another French side, Brest Bretagne in an away game 24-21 and is currently ranking 4th in group A.


    In the EHF European League, on Saturday in group C, Gloria Bistriţa secured a 35 – 27 win against German side Bensheim / Auerbach and is ranking second in the groups standings. Gloria boasts four points out of two games, just like the French side, Nantes, which ranks first thanks to a better goal average.


    Also in Germany, in group B, Dunarea Braila lost to Thüringer 32 – 28. With two points, Dunarea comes second in the group after the German side.


    Another Romanian side CSM Târgu Jiu lost their home game to Spanish side Malaga, 35-25 and stays at the bottom of the group Ds table with no point.



    Romanian footballer Radu Drăguşin made his debut in Premier League at his new side Tottenham Hotspur. The Romanian back played in the last eleven minutes of the game his side played against Manchester United on Old Trafford, which ended in a draw, two-all. Drăguşin last week signed up with Tottenham for six years and his transfer sum from the Italian side Genoa stood at 30 million Euros, the highest for a Romanian footballer.

    La Campionatele
    Europene de patinaj artistic găzduite de oraşul lituanian Kaunas, reprezentanta
    României, Julia Sauter, s-a clasat pe locul 9 în concursul individual feminin.
    A fost cel mai bun rezultat înregistrat vreodată de o sportivă din România la
    un concurs continental. Competiţia a fost câştigată de belgianca Loena
    Hendrickx.


    La Campionatul
    European de polo pe apă din Croaţia, echipa masculină a României va juca,
    marţi, pentru locul 7, împotriva reprezentativei Serbiei. Duminică, în prima
    partidă pentru locurile 5-8, tricolorii au fost învinşi de Muntenegru, cu 18 la
    11. Calificarea în sferturile de finală le-a asigurat poloiştilor români
    participarea la Campionatul Mondial care va avea loc în februarie, în Qatar.


    Trecem la
    handbal. La Campionatul European masculin din Germania, România a înregistrat,
    duminică, al doilea eşec. Într-un joc contând pentru Grupa B, handbaliştii
    tricolori au fost învinşi de Spania cu 36 la 24, după ce, vineri, pierduseră în
    faţa Austriei cu 24 la 31. Echipa masculină a României este prezentă la
    Europene după o pauză de 28 de ani.


    Ambele echipe
    feminine care reprezintă România în Liga Campionilor au pierdut partidele
    jucate duminică. Rapid a cedat, la Bucureşti, cu 31 la 34 în faţa echipei
    franceze Metz şi ocupă, după 10 jocuri disputate, locul 7 în Grupa B, penultimul,
    cu 7 puncte. Campioana României, CSM Bucureşti, a fost învinsă tot de o echipă
    franceză, Brest Bretagne, în deplasare, cu 24 la 21, şi ocupă locul 4 în Grupa
    A.


    În EHF European
    League, sâmbătă, în Grupa C, Gloria Bistriţa a trecut cu 35 la 27, în
    deplasare, de echipa germană Bensheim / Auerbach şi se află pe locul doi în
    clasament. Ardelencele au patru puncte din două jocuri, la fel ca formaţia
    franceză Nantes, care ocupă locul întâi, dar care are un golaveraj superior. Tot
    în Germania, în Grupa B, Dunărea Brăila a jucat cu Thüringer, de care a fost învinsă cu 32 la 28. Cu
    două puncte, brăilencele se află pe locul secund în clasamentul grupei, după
    echipa germană. În fine, duminică, CSM Târgu Jiu a fost învinsă acasă de formaţia
    spaniolă Malaga cu 35 la 25 şi ocupă ultimul loc în Grupa D, fără niciun punct.


    Fotbalistul român
    Radu Drăguşin a debutat, duminică, în Premier League, la noua sa echipă,
    Tottenham Hotspur. Fundaşul român a evoluat în ultimele 11 minute ale jocului
    disputat de echipa sa pe stadionul Old Trafford cu Manchester United şi
    încheiat la egalitate – 2 la 2. Drăguşin a semnat săptămâna trecută cu
    Tottenham un contract pe 6 ani, iar suma sa de transfer de la clubul italian
    Genoa, 30 de milioane de euro, reprezintă un record pentru un fotbalist român

    The city of Minsk in Belarus last
    weekend saw the European Skating Championship, where Romanian skater Julia
    Sauter came in 14th, scoring the best result obtained by an athlete
    from Romania in a competition of this kind. Until last weekend, the best Romanian
    result had belonged to Roxana Luca, who came 15th at the European
    Championships in 2015. Also worth noting is that Roxana Luca, today Harmann, is
    now a choreographer in Julia Sauter’s team.


    For her performance in Minsk, Radio
    Romania International has designated Julia Sauter Athlete of the Week.


    In Minsk, Sauter managed to obtain
    54 points and 29 hundredths in the short programme, which brought her
    qualification for the free-style programme. She came 15th in the
    free-style contest and eventually 14th in the competition’s final
    standings.


    Julia Sauter was born in
    Weingarten, Germany on June 18, 1997 and has joined Romanian club CSU Brasov. As
    a junior skater she competed for Germany. In the previous editions of the
    European Figure Skating Championship, Sauter went 35th in 2015, 27th,
    a year later and 25th in 2017. Last year she ranked 29th
    but she also came first in the Balkans Games held in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria.

    Săptămâna trecută s-au desfăşurat, la Minsk, în Belarus, Campionatele Europene de patinaj. La feminin, sportiva română Julia Sauter a ocupat locul 14.     In capitala bielorusă, ea a reuşit să treacă bine de programul scurt. Evoluţia sa a primit 54 de puncte şi 29 de sutimi, a plasat-o pe locul 14 şi a calificat-o pentru programul liber. După evoluţiile de la programul liber, românca s-a clasat pe locul 15, cu 98 de puncte şi 86 de sutimi. În clasamentul final, a ocupat, cum am amintit, poziţia a 14-a.
