    Piatra Neamt Theater Festival

    The Piatra Neamt Youth Theater, the place where most great Romanian
    artists have learned their craft, celebrates this year 50 years of bearing this
    name. In all these years, it has supported and promoted young artists, this
    year with the Pleading for You(th) Theater Festival. The 29th
    edition of the festival, held under the leadership of the new director of the
    theater, Gianina Carbunariu, brought the theater even closer to young artists,
    as well as the community. The festival was preceded by an anniversary moment,
    which started with the inauguration of the photo exhibition called Youth
    Theater Actors and Spectators. It featured 46 photos taken during meetings
    between actors from the theater and city inhabitants, with a short caption with
    the background of the people featured.

    We had the project ‘Youth Theater Actors and Spectators’, as
    part of which we ran 46 interviews with spectators of all ages, with various
    backgrounds, from all walks of life. We didn’t have only spectators, but also
    potential spectators. We spoke to people who had never been to the theater. I
    think this is more interesting, and the most important thing, attracting an audience
    who has never been to the theater. Not because they are not interested, but
    also because of lack of time, or a lack of promotion. The interviews were a
    part of preparing the anniversary moment. We launched there the photo
    exhibition, and we tried to make the project visible beyond the theater foyer,
    with banners reading ‘Actors and Spectators’.


    The photos on the walls of the foyer were made by Mihaela Jipa,
    artistic secretary of the theater, who, together with actors, picked the brains
    of the city’s inhabitants in relation to the theater. Here is Mihaela Jipa:


    Someone said that theater has the role of educating, you find
    yourself in theater, in theater you can be yourself. Theater is like a church,
    when you go there you prepare, inwardly and outwardly. One lady told us that
    her favorite actor was Bogdan Talasman. He gave her an autograph, and wrote
    something on it, which became her motto in life. Everyone we interacted with
    told us something special. It was a lesson for all of us. This closeness, I
    think, was something that changed for both sides the perception on audience,
    art, actors, and the role of theater.


    The stories about the Youth Theater, told at the anniversary moment
    and in the book accompanying the event, were told by the artists who have acted
    here, as well as by the audience. Some members of the audience have been
    witness to the evolution of the theater, while some young people got to know
    it. Here is Gianina Carbunariu once again:


    In July we launched the project ‘Spectator Archive’, inviting
    spectators to send letters telling their stories about the Youth Theater. The
    letters were the basis of the anniversary event. The anniversary moment was the
    engine of this project, and in the future we will be thinking of how to further
    gather materials for the archive, how to motivate the spectators.


    This year’s edition of the Piatra Neamt Theater Festival included a
    section recommended to high school students, and a jury made up of seven high
    school students granted a Popularity Award for the best show in this section.
    Gianina Carbunariu said that the stake in this was not the award in itself, but
    the fact that young people would come to the show, would talk to their peers
    about the shows, would communicate, would learn how to watch a show, would take
    part in discussions with the audience.


    Among the seven young people selected through letters of motivation
    was Francisc Gabriel Lolea, a sophomore at the National College of Information
    Technology. He told us how he got to send the letter, and what his expectations
    were of theater:


    : I took part in the competition called ‘Tea, Poetry, Theater’,
    and I won a meeting with Victor Giurescu, actor with the Youth Theater, and we
    had a conversation. This meeting motivated me, and I told myself I should let
    loose my words and my love of theater. I sent a motivational letter and I was
    pleasantly surprised that I got picked out of 200 applicants. I am surprised by
    the shows that were presented, they have interesting topics, which should
    challenge us to reflection. We need shows to attract young people, since the
    name of the theater is the Youth Theater.


    Catalina Balalau is one of the young actresses with the theater who
    got involved in the projects meant to bring the theater closer to the community:


    We went to the fabric factory, we met there very convivial
    people, we made a tour of the factory, we talked to them. Some were people who
    go to the theater, others didn’t. We talked to them about the reasons why they
    didn’t. It was a wonderful morning both for them and for us. Then we saw them
    again at the inauguration of the ‘Youth Theater Actors and Spectators’
    exhibition, and it was very pleasant. It’s good to talk to each other. Of late,
    the climate has been very friendly here, and spectators are more familiar with
    us. We had a lot of full house shows this season, every weekend. This means we
    must be doing something right. There have been some great initiatives lately.


    Gianina Carbunariu is convinced that theater is not for the elites,
    theater is for everyone.


    I want the community of spectators in Piatra Neamt to come to
    the theater. I want theater to belong to the community in which it exists, and
    for the community to feel that, that the theater belongs to them. And I want
    them to be critical, I want them to have a dialogue with the artists. I want us
    to be together.

    Festivalul de Teatru Piatra Neamţ, un festival pentru comunitate

    Teatrul Tineretului din Piatra Neamţ, locul prin
    care au trecut, la început de carieră, cei mai mulţi dintre marii artişti
    români, aniversează anul acesta 50 de ani de când poartă acest nume. În toţi
    aceşti ani a susţinut şi promovat tinerii artişti, inclusiv prin Festivalul de
    Teatru Pledez pentru tine(ri). A 29-a ediţie a festivalului, desfăşurată sub
    conducerea noii directoare a teatrului, Gianina Cărbunariu, a însemnat o şi mai
    mare apropiere a teatrului, atât de tinerii artişti, cât şi de comunitate.
    Festivalul a fost precedat de un moment aniversar care a început cu vernisajul
    expoziţiei de fotografie Actorii şi spectatorii TT, rezultat al proiectului
    cu acelaşi nume. 46 de fotografii realizate în timpul întâlnirilor dintre
    actori ai Teatrului Tineretului şi locuitorii oraşului, fotografii însoţite de
    câte un foarte scurt fragment din poveştile pietrenilor.


    Gianina Cărbunariu: Am avut proiectul
    Actorii şi spectatorii TT, în cadrul căruia s-au realizat 46 de interviuri cu
    spectatori de diferite vârste, cu background diferit, venind din foarte multe
    domenii. Dar nu doar spectatori, ci şi potenţiali spectatori. Am vorbit cu
    oameni care nu fuseseră niciodată la teatru. Şi cred că asta este cel mai
    important şi mai interesant. Cum să atragi acest public potenţial, care nu a
    ajuns la teatru. Nu pentru că nu l-ar interesa, ci din motive precum lipsa de
    timp sau o promovare mai puţin vizibilă. Interviurile au ajutat şi ele la
    crearea momentului aniversar. Am lansat şi expoziţia foto şi am încercat ca
    proiectul să fie vizibil şi dincolo de foaierul teatrului, prin bannere cu Actorii
    şi spectatorii.


    Fotografiile care ocupă pereţii din foaierul
    teatrului au fost realizate de Mihaela Jipa, secretar artistic al teatrului,
    care a adunat, împreună cu actorii, gânduri ale locuitorilor oraşului despre
    teatru şi legătura lor cu teatrul. Mihaela Jipa: Cineva ne spunea că teatrul are rolul de a
    educa, în teatru te regăseşti, în teatru poţi fi tu însuţi. Teatrul este ca o
    biserică, când vii te pregăteşti şi interior, şi exterior. O doamnă ne povestea
    că actorul ei preferat era Bogdan Talaşman. Acesta i-a dat un autograf şi i-a
    scris o frază pe o fotografie, care a fost motto-ul ei în viaţă. Toţi oamenii
    cu care noi am interacţionat au transmis ceva foarte special. A fost o lecţie
    pentru noi toţi. Şi apropierea asta cred că le-a schimbat şi unora, şi altora
    percepţia despre public, despre artă, despre actori şi despre rolul unui teatru.


    Prezentate în momentul aniversar, dar şi în
    caietul program al festivalului, poveştile despre Teatrul Tineretului din
    Piatra Neamţ sunt spuse de mari artişti care au lucrat aici, dar şi de
    locuitorii oraşului. Locuitori care au trăit o parte din istoria teatrului, dar
    şi tineri în viaţa cărora Teatrul Tineretului şi-a făcut rapid loc. Gianina
    Cărbunariu: În luna iulie am lansat proiectul Arhiva
    spectatorilor, prin care spectatorii erau invitaţi să trimită scrisori în care
    să vorbească despre experienţe lor personale de-a lungul timpului cu TT.
    Scrisorile au stat la baza scenariului aniversar. Momentul aniversar a fost motorul acestui proiect, iar pe viitor o să
    ne gândim cum să facem ca să adunăm materiale în arhiva afectivă, dar având
    alte mize adresate spectatorilor.


    Ediţia din acest an a Festivalului de Teatru
    Piatra Neamţ a inclus o secţiune recomandată liceenilor, iar un juriu format
    din şapte liceeni a acordat Premiul de Popularitate pentru cel mai bun
    spectacol al acestei secţiuni. Miza nu
    este premiul în sine, ci faptul că aceşti tineri vor veni la spectacole, vor
    vorbi colegilor lor despre aceste spectacole, vor vorbi între ei, vor învăţa
    împreună cum să privească un spectacol, vor asista la discuţiile cu publicul    ,
    a declarat Gianina Cărbunariu. Printre cei şapte tineri aleşi în urma
    trimiterii unei scrisori de motivaţie s-a aflat şi Francisc Gabriel Lolea, elev în clasa a X-a la Colegiul Naţional de
    Informatică. El povesteşte cum a ajuns să trimită această scrisoare şi ce
    aşteptări are de la teatru: Am
    participat la concursul Ceai, poezie, teatru şi am câştigat o întâlnire cu
    Victor Giurescu, actor al Teatrului Tineretului şi am stat de vorbă. Am abordat
    diferite teme, cum ar fi speranţa în tineret, actoria. Această întâlnire m-a
    motivat şi am zis să încerc să-mi dau frâu liber cuvintelor şi dragostei mele
    pentru teatru. Am trimis o scrisoare motivaţională şi am rămas plăcut surprins
    că am fost ales din 200 de participanţi. Sunt surprins de spectacolele prezentate. Sunt teme interesante, care
    ar trebui să ne provoace să reflectăm. Aşa
    cum spune şi numele instituţiei, Teatrul Tineretului, e nevoie de spectacole
    care să atragă tinerii.


    Cătălina Bălălău este
    una dintre tinerele actriţe ale Teatrului Tineretului, care s-a implicat în
    proiectele de apropiere a teatrului de comunitate: Am fost în fabrica de ţesătorie, am întâlnit
    nişte oameni extrem de simpatici, am făcut şi turul fabricii, am vorbit cu ei.
    Unii erau oameni care veneau la teatru, alţii care nu veneau. Am discutat de ce
    nu veneau… A fost o dimineaţă minunată şi pentru noi, şi pentru ei. I-am
    întâlnit apoi la vernisajul expoziţiei Actorii şi spectatorii TT şi a fost
    foarte plăcut. E bine să vorbim. În ultima vreme climatul este foarte prietenos
    aici şi spectatorii s-au apropiat. Am avut foarte multe spectacole din această
    stagiune jucate cu sala plină la fiecare sfârşit de săptămână. Înseamnă că
    poate facem ceva bine. Au fost nişte iniţiative foarte bune în ultima vreme.



    Gianina
    Cărbunariu are convingerea că teatrul nu e pentru elite, teatrul e pentru
    toată lumea. Îmi doresc ca spectatorii din Piatra Neamţ,
    comunitatea spectatorilor din Piatra Neamţ să vină la teatru. Îmi doresc ca
    teatrul acesta să fie al comunităţii în care există şi comunitatea să simtă
    acest lucru – că teatrul le aparţine lor. Şi-mi doresc să ne critice, îmi
    doresc să intre în dialog cu artiştii. Îmi doresc să fim cu toţii împreună.
