    Fine Art in Sibiu and Brasov


    Nicolae Daicu, president of the Fine Artists Union in Brasov, in central Romania, has presented his works at numerous exhibitions in Romania and abroad, in countries like France, Luxembourg, Denmark and Japan.After he graduated from the Arts High School in Brasov, in 1971, he decided to take up sculpture so he enrolled with the Institute of Fine and Decorative Arts in Cluj. He opened his first exhibition during his student years. Nicolae Daicu, who is also a teacher with the Fine Arts High School, believes in the educational value of art:



    “Ive been working with this high school for 38 years and all this time I have never got bored, as spending so time around teenagers has helped me stay young as well. Unfortunately there are cases of young teachers who abandon their profession after only one year, as there are insufficient teaching positions for them. Although I teach sculpture, I can honestly say I often leave it aside in favor of some direct talks with my students, about issues they should in fact be approaching with their parents or other teachers. This is one of the reasons why two years ago they voted me teacher of the year. I was very happy about it and I realized they picked me because we talk a lot, I answer them to the most varied questions and together we take the liberty to have a free way of thinking which allows us to travel the world. I also have students who are unable to walk and come to school in a wheelchair. I find it extraordinary that they have pushed their limits and decided to take the best in life. I also have a student with the Down syndrome but his colleagues welcomed him in the warmest way possible, they accepted him and made him one of their own.”



    Nicolae Daicu has been the head of the Fine Artists Union in Brasov for ten years. Set up in 1946 by a group of local artists, this has been the first such union in Romania.



    “I dont know who adopted who, but we live in a symbiosis that is good for us. Five years ago I tried to set up a museum of contemporary art based on donations from artists. We have gathered over 340 works, but since I havent found a venue for them yet, although I have asked the local authorities for support, I plan on setting up a virtual museum. As for my work as an artist, you should not think that inspiration comes while the artist is having a coffee. Inspiration needs to be constantly challenged. And to challenge it means to work. I make bronze works and discovering old working techniques has always been a challenge.”



    Nicolae Daicu has 18 monumental works in several Romanian localities. One of them is the statue of the late metropolitan bishop Andrei Saguna, displayed in front of the high school with the same name. Another important work is the 8-meter high Time Column, in the Prejmer locality, where a workshop was held in 1994, and also the monument of Avram Iancu, in front of the Metrom plant. April 25th, 2005, the day when Romania signed the EU accession treaty in Luxembourg, was a very special day for sculptor Nicolae Daicu, as he exhibited his most representative works in that vibrant city. One of the sculptures, a bust of Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu, was the gift the sculptor made to the exhibitions organizers.



    “My whole life has been connected to glass making. My father was a glass-maker himself. Near my native village, which is close to the town of Satu Mare, there was the glass factory in Poiana Codrului, the first in Romania. As a child, I had the chance to see glass-makers at work and I loved it. To this day I strongly believe the glass-maker is not a simple worker, but an artist. I practically started from scratch,” says Ion Tamaian, the head of the Ion Art Glass atelier in Selimbar, Sibiu county, who is also the head of the Sibiu branch of the Fine Artists Union. Objects such as glasses, bowls, perfume bottles and vases are being made at the Ion Art Glass atelier. Ion Tamaian:



    “We can manufacture here anything that we want and we are constantly trying to stick to the idea that we start from. Of course, when making glass objects we sometimes encounter technical difficulties, and we try to overcome them as we go. So I could not say there is something that we cant do. Of course the glass technology has its limits but if you are a talented glass-maker, a talented artist and technologist there are no limits to reaching your goal and solutions can be found to anything. Im sometimes approached by people who tell me they want a certain object and they even come up with sketches and with technical solutions. We talk, we exchange opinions and try to make an original glass object.”



    The most expensive artwork ever made by Ion Art Glass atelier was entitled “Portal” and was sold to a private art collector in the US for 35,000 dollars. Some of the Christmas balls manufactured at the workshop in Selimbar even reached the White House and adorned the Christmas tree there. Ion Tamaian:



    “Utility and utility-art objects are exhibited. Tourists from all over the world come to visit out the workshop, as this place is already famous abroad due to its participation in international exhibitions. For this reason, many of the tourists to Transylvania want to pay us a visit. We always show them the whole process of making glass objects and we even let them model the objects themselves, something that they are very happy to do. This is a workshop that has passed the test of time. We resisted on the market because we focused on exports. Its the exports that helped us succeed, as we had exhibitions in various parts of the world, such as the US, which has a very good market and also China, the Nordic countries and Brazil. The real challenge is to be able to keep the standards high and still manage to sell art in difficult economic contexts. By displaying our works at international fairs we manage to keep in touch with important art galleries worldwide.”

    Nicolae Daicu, der Vorsitzende des Künstlerverbands in Braşov/Kronstadt, kann mit Stolz auf viele persönliche und Gruppenausstellungen in Rumänien und im Ausland zurückblicken. 1971, nach seinem Abitur beim Kunstgymnasium in Braşov, entschied sich Nicolae Daicu für die Bildhauerei und studierte diese Kunstrichtung beim Institut für Schöne und Dekorative Künste in Cluj/Klausenburg. Schon als Student hatte er seine erste Ausstellung. Als Lehrer am Kunstgymnasium in Braşov glaubt Nicolae Daicu an den erzieherischen Wert der schönen Künste:



    Seit 38 Jahren unterrichte ich in dieser Schule und während all dieser Jahre hatte ich nie Langeweile, denn unter jungen Menschen bleibt man selber jung. Leider gibt es viele jüngere Kollegen, die nach nur einem Jahr ihre Karriere als Lehrer aufgeben mussten, weil es nicht genügend Arbeitsstellen gibt. Auch wenn ich auf Bildhauerei spezialisiert bin, kann ich doch sagen, dass ich oft genug die Bildhauerei beiseite lasse, weil ich sehr viel Zeit mit meinen Schülern verbringe — ich rede mit ihnen und übernehme oft die Rolle der Eltern oder anderer Lehrer. Bei einer Umfrage vor zwei Jahren wurde ich von meinen Schülern, von meinen Kindern zum Lehrer des Jahres erklärt. Ich war sehr froh darüber, und es wurde mir klar, dass die Kinder mich auserwählt haben, weil wir sehr viel diskutieren und weil ich versuche, Antworten auf ihre verschiedensten Fragen zu finden. Bei diesen Gesprächen setzen wir unsere Gedankenfreiheit ein und auf diese Weise können wir in Gedanken um die ganze Welt reisen. Ich habe auch körperbehinderte Schüler, die im Rollstuhl in die Schule kommen — ich finde es ganz gro‎ßartig, dass sie ihre Behinderung überwunden haben. Ich habe auch einen Schüler mit Down-Syndrom, aber die anderen Kinder haben ihn sofort akzeptiert. Sie haben ihn umarmt, in ihrer Gruppe integriert, sie machen gar keinen Unterschied.“




    Seit 13 Jahren ist Nicolae Daicu Vorsitzender des Künstlerverbandes Braşov. Der 1946 von einer Gruppe Kronstädter Künstler gegründete Verband ist die älteste Organisation dieser Art in Rumänien. Nicolae Daicu dazu:



    Ich wei‎ß nicht, wer wen adoptiert hat, aber die Stadt Braşov und ich leben in einer Symbiose, die uns beiden sehr gut tut. Vor 5 Jahren versuchte ich, ein Museum der Gegenwartskunst in Braşov zu gründen, das auf Schenkungen der Künstler basieren sollte. Inzwischen haben wir mehr als 340 Werke gesammelt, aber wir haben leider noch kein Gebäude, obwohl ich bei den Kommunalbehörden einen Antrag in diesem Sinne gestellt hatte. Deshalb habe ich vor, es als virtuelles Museum im Internet zu eröffnen. Über meine künstlerische Aktivität kann ich schlicht und einfach das sagen: Glauben Sie ja nicht, dass ein Künstler einfach so sitzt, einen Kaffee trinkt und plötzlich trifft ihn aus heiterem Himmel die Inspiration. Die Inspiration muss immer wieder provoziert werden, und das kann nur geschehen, indem man arbeitet. Ich arbeite mit Bronze, im Wachsausschmelzverfahren (auch verlorenes Wachs genannt), und das war und ist immer noch eine richtige Herausforderung. Zurzeit denke ich über ein anderes Verfahren nach, das dem verlorenen Wachs ähnelt, aber eben kein Wachs verwendet.“




    Nicolae Daicu hat 18 Monumentalskulpturen entworfen, die in mehreren rumänischen Städten stehen. Eine davon ist eine Darstellung des Metropoliten Andrei Şaguna, die vor dem gleichnamigen Gymnasium in Braşov steht. Ein weiteres Werk ist die Zeitsäule“, eine 8 Meter hohe Monumentalplastik in der Ortschaft Prejmer/Tartlau, wo 1994 ein Künstler-Workshop stattgefunden hat. Ein weiteres wichtiges Werk von Nicolae Daicu ist die Figur Avram Iancus vor den Metrom-Werken. Der 25. April 2005, als in Luxemburg der Vertrag über den EU-Beitritt Rumäniens unterzeichnet wurde, war ein ganz besonderer Tag für Nicolae Daicu — damals hat der Kronstädter Künstler einige seiner repräsentativsten Werke ausgestellt. Eine dieser Skulpturen, eine Büste des rumänischen Dichters Mihai Eminescu, schenkte der Künstler den Organisatoren der Ausstellung.



    Mein ganzes Leben ist mit dem Glasblasen verbunden. Mein Vater war auch Glasbläser. In der Nähe meines Heimatdorfes, nicht weit von Satu Mare entfernt, befand sich die Glasbläserei Poiana Codrului, die älteste Glasbläserei in Rumänien. Schon als Kind sah ich dort die Glasbläser arbeiten und ich war wie verzaubert. Heute noch bin ich überzeugt, dass ein Glasbläser nicht blo‎ß ein Arbeiter, sondern auch ein Künstler ist. Ich habe praktisch von Null angefangen“, erzählte Ion Tămâian, Direktor der Werkstatt Ion Art Glass in Şelimbăr/Schellenberg, Landkreis Sibiu, und Vorsitzender des Künstlerverbandes Sibiu/Hermannstadt. In der Werkstatt Ion Art Glass werden künstlerisch gestaltete Gegenstände für den täglichen Gebrauch hergestellt (Gläser, Vasen, Schüssel, Parfümfläschchen, Lampen). Hier kann der Künstler seine Ideen verwirklichen. Ion Tămâian:



    Man kann alles Mögliche herstellen, und wir versuchen, der ursprünglichen Idee so nahe zu kommen wie nur möglich. Selbstverständlich werden uns während der Arbeit auch die Schwierigkeiten bewusst, und wir versuchen, diese Schwierigkeiten mit der entsprechenden Technik zu beseitigen. Ansonsten würde ich sagen, dass es nichts gibt, was wir nicht schaffen können. Die Glasblasentechnik hat auch ihre Grenzen, aber als guter Glasbläser, inspirierter Künstler und guter Techniker kann man alles herstellen. Man findet immer die richtige Lösung, um den Gegenstand zu gestalten, den man sich ausgedacht hat. Es kommen auch viele Menschen zu mir, die sich einen bestimmten Gegenstand wünschen, manchmal haben sie auch Skizzen dabei, oder wir zeichnen ihn zusammen. Wir diskutieren, wir tauschen Ideen aus, und wir versuchen, einen originellen Gegenstand herzustellen.“




    Das teuerste Kunstwerk, das aus dem Atelier Ion Art Glass gekommen ist, trug den Titel Portal“, hatte einen Wert von 35.000 US-Dollar und wurde einem Privatsammler aus den USA verkauft. Einmal wurden sogar im Wei‎ßen Haus einige Weihnachtskugeln aufgehängt, die vom Atelier Ion Art Glass in Şelimbăr stammten. Ion Tămâian:



    In unserem Atelier findet man sowohl Gebrauchsgegenstände als auch Kunstwerke. Touristen aus der ganzen Welt kommen zu uns, um die Werke zu besichtigen — durch die Teilnahme an internationalen Ausstellungen ist Ion Art Glass weltweit bekannt geworden. Wir führen unsere Besucher auch durch die Werkstatt, damit sie sehen und verstehen können, wie ein Glasgenstand entsteht. Alles ist interaktiv, die Gäste modellieren auch selbst und haben viel Spa‎ß daran. Der Export war unsere Chance, wir hatten Ausstellungen in verschiedenen Ländern — in den USA, in China, in Skandinavien, in Brasilien. Am wichtigsten ist aber, die Standards hoch zu halten, um Kunstwerke verkaufen zu können. Wir beteiligen uns an internationalen Kunstmessen und bleiben in Verbindung mit wichtigen Kunstgalerien.“

    Artă plastică la Sibiu şi Braşov

    Nicolae Daicu, preşedintele Uniunii Artiştilor Plastici din Braşov, are la activ numeroase expoziţii personale şi de grup, în ţară şi peste hotare, în tari
    precum Franţa, Luxemburg, Danemarca şi Japonia. După ce a terminat liceul de Arte la Braşov, în 1971, s-a hotărât să se
    îndrepte către sculptură şi a luat drumul Clujului, pentru a urma Institutul de
    Arte Plastice şi Decorative. Prima expoziţie a avut-o în timpul studenţiei. Nicolae Daicu,
    profesor la Liceul de Arte Plastice, crede în valoarea educativă a artei.

    Am împlinit 38 de ani de când
    lucrez în şcoală. Şi în toţi aceşti ani nu am avut momente de plictiseală,
    printre tineri îţi menţii mereu tinereţea. Din păcate există şi cazuri de
    colegi tineri care după un an abandonează cariera de profesor, pentru că nu
    există suficiente locuri. Deşi obiectul meu de activitate este sculptura, pot
    spune că mă abat destul de des de la sculptură, pentru că vorbesc tot timpul cu
    copiii şi le ţin uneori loc şi de părinţi şi de alţi profesori, motiv pentru
    care, la un sondaj făcut în urmă cu doi ani, m-au ales copiii profesorul
    anului. M-am bucurat mult şi mi-am dat seama că au făcut-o pentru că discutăm
    mult, le răspund la întrebări din cele mai variate, ne permitem o mare
    libertate în gândire şi călătorim în felul ăsta în toată lumea. Am şi elevi
    care sunt imobilizaţi şi vin la şcoală în cărucior, mi se pare extraordinar că
    au reuşit să-şi depăşească această barieră. Acum am un elev care suferă de
    sindrom Down, dar copiii nu au făcut diferenţţa. L-au îmbrăţişat, l-au
    integrat, l-au acceptat.



    Braşoveanul Nicolae Daicu conduce de 10 ani
    Uniunea Artiştilor Plastici din Braşov. Înfiinţată în 1946 de către un grup de
    artişti braşoveni, a fost prima organizare de acest fel din ţară.

    Nu
    ştiu cine a adoptat pe cine, bărbatul sau oraşul, dar trăim într-o simbioză
    care ne prinde bine. În urmă cu 5 ani (din cei vreo 13, de când sunt
    preşedintele UAP ) am încercat să realizez un muzeu de artă contemporană,
    bazându-mă pe donaţii de la
    artişti. Am ajuns la peste 340 de
    lucrări, dar cum n-am găsit deocamdată spaţiu, deşi am cerut sprijinul
    autorităţilor locale, intenţionez să-l realizez sub forma unui muzeu virtual.
    Cât priveşte activitatea mea artistică, să nu vă imaginaţi că artistul stă la o
    cafea şi dintr-o dată îl loveşte inspiraţia. Inspiraţia trebuie tot timpul
    provocată. Şi asta nu se poate întâmpla decât lucrând. Eu sunt bronzier şi
    descoperind tehnica cerii pierdute sau un model fuzibil, cum spun inginerii, a
    fost o provocare. Mai nou, mă bântuie o altă descoperire, care seamănă mult cu
    ceara pierdută dar nu implică ceara.



    Nicolae Daicu are 18 lucrări
    monumentale în mai multe localităţi din ţară, una fiind cea a lui Andrei Şaguna
    din faţa colegiului ce poartă numele mitropolitului,O altă lucrare este Coloana
    timpului , înaltă de 8 metri, amplasată la Prejmer, unde în 1994, a fost
    organizată o tabără de creaţie. Un alt monument reprezentativ este cel a
    lui Avram Iancu din faţa uzinei Metrom. Ziua de 25 aprilie 2005, când în
    capitala Luxemburgului a avut loc semnarea Tratatului de aderare a României la
    Uniunea Europeană, a fost una cu totul specială pentru sculptorul Nicolae Daicu,
    artistul braşovean şi-a expus unele dintre cele mai reprezentative lucrări. Una
    dintre sculpturi, un bust al lui Mihai Eminescu, a fost dăruită de artistul
    braşovean organizatorilor expoziţiei.



    Toată viaţa mea a fost legată de sticlărie. Şi tatăl meu a
    fost sticlar. Lângă satul naşterii mele, care se află în apropiere de Satu
    Mare, era fabrica de sticlă de la Poiana Codrului, cea mai veche din ţară.
    Copil fiind, am văzut, acolo, prima dată sticlarii lucrând şi mi-a plăcut
    enorm. Şi astăzi am convingerea că sticlarul nu-i doar un muncitor, ci un
    adevărat artist. Practic, am pornit de la zero,     mărturiseşte Ion Tămâian,
    directorul atelierul Ion Art Glass din Şelimbăr, judeţul Sibiu, preşedintele
    Uniunii Artistilor Plastici, filiala Sibiu. În atelierul Ion Art Glass se
    realizează obiecte utilitar-artistice (pahare, boluri, sticluţe de parfum,
    platouri, vaze şi diferite corpuri de iluminat), dar tot aici, artistul îşi
    pune în aplicare ideile.

    Ion Tămâian: Se poate face orice şi
    încercăm să ne apropiem cât mai mult de ideea pe care ne-am propus-o. Sigur că
    în timpul lucrului ne dăm seama de dificultăţi şi le punem la punct, tehnologic
    vorbind. Astfel că n-aş putea spune că există ceva mai presus de puterile
    noastre, dar sigur că şi tehnologia sticlei are limitele ei şi există diverse
    abordări. Dacă eşti un bun sticlar, un bun creator, tehnolog, poţi realiza
    orice, poţi găsi soluţii pentru a realiza obiectul pe care l-ai proiectat.
    Sigur că de multe mă abordează diferite persoane care îşi doresc un anume tip
    de obiect, fie că aşa l-au imaginat şi au realizat şi schiţe, fie că încercăm
    să-l proiectăm împreună. Discutăm, schimbăm impresii, şi, prin desenele pe care
    le prezint, încerc să realizăm un obiect original.


    Cea
    mai scumpă lucrare de artă produsă de vreodată de atelierul Ion Art Glass a fost o creaţie intitulată Portal, evaluată la 35.000 de
    dolari, şi vândută unui colecţionar privat din America. Tot în America, chiar
    la Casa Albă, au ajuns, în urmă cu câţiva ani, globuri de sărbători
    confecţionate în atelierul din Şelimbăr. Ion Tămâian,
    directorul atelierul Ion Art Glass din Şelimbăr: Cum spuneam,
    sunt expuse şi obiecte utilitare, sau utilitaro-artistice. Vin turişti din
    toată lumea, pentru că atelierul participă la expoziţii internaţionale, e
    cunoscut în străinătate, de aceea, mulţi turişti, când ajung în Transilvania,
    îşi doresc să ajungă şi la atelierul Ion Art Glass. Întotdeauna îi conducem pe
    vizitatori şi în zona atelierului, pentru a înţelege şi partea tehnologică, le explicăm
    interactiv, iar ei se simt încântaţi să modeleze.Este un atelier care a trecut proba timpului, am
    rezistat în primul rând pentru că ne-am axat pe export. Exportul este cel care
    ne-a susţinut, am avut expoziţii în diverse colţuri ale lumii, în SUA, de
    exemplu, unde este o piaţă foarte ofertantă. De asemenea, în China, în ţările nordice, Brazilia, eu zic
    că am ajuns în toate colţurile lumii. Dar performanţa este să nu cobori
    standardele şi să reuşeşti să vinzi artă în condiţiile actuale. Expunând la târgurile
    internaţionale, reuşim să păstrăm legătura şi cu galerii importante de artă.
