Refugees. 4,387 Ukrainian citizens have applied for asylum in neighboring Romania, since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, benefiting from all the rights provided by the national legislation, the Romanian Interior Ministry said on Sunday. Since March 18, 69,064 residence permits have been issued for beneficiaries of temporary protection, 48 being granted in the last 24 hours. In another move, the General Inspectorate of the Border Police informs that on Saturday, September 17, 241,400 people crossed Romanias borders, of which 11,173 were Ukrainian citizens, by 4.3% more compared to the previous day. According to a press release on Sunday, starting February 10, two weeks before the Russian army invaded their country, 2,339,683 Ukrainian citizens have entered neighboring Romania.

Ukraine. The Czech Presidency of the European Union requested the establishment of a special international tribunal, after the discovery of hundreds of bodies buried near Izium, a city in eastern Ukraine, reseized by Kievs troops after months of Russian occupation. “In the 21st century, such attacks against the civilian population are inconceivable and heinous”, the Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky said on Twitter. Ukrainian authorities reported “450 bodies of civilians, bearing signs of violent death and torture, buried in a forest on the outskirts of Izium”. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that “the exhumation process continues”, also stating that “torture was a widespread practice in the occupied territories” and that the Russian fascists are doing what the Nazis did. The president promises to find the culprits, “on the battle field or in justice”. The US President, Joe Biden, once again warned his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, against the use of chemical or nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Such a measure “would change the course of the war, like never before” since the second world war, Biden said, promising a “substantial response” of the United States if this step were taken.

Diplomacy. The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the interim Charge dAffaires of Belarus to Bucharest, after president Aleksandr Lukashenko said the United States was pushing Europe into a military confrontation with Russia on the territory of Ukraine and several states, including Romania, were directly involved. The interim Chargé dAffaires of Belarus has been told that the Romanian side firmly rejects such inadmissible statements, which feed the rhetoric based on the threat and use of force in international relations. The Romanian MFA has also stressed that the international role and responsibility of Belarus as an accomplice of Russia in supporting the war of aggression against Ukraine cannot be ignored. At the same time, the Romanian diplomacy recalls that Romania is a NATO member state and benefits, to the highest degree, from all the security guarantees arising from this status.

According to the “European best destinations” ranking, Oradea is considered a model for many destinations in Romania, with a surprising architectural landscape and a diverse cultural program. Designated this year as the most beautiful art nouveau destination in Europe, Oradea deserves to be on the list of tourist destinations that must be visited at least once in a lifetime, the ministry representatives say.

The cited source states that, during the evening, Her Majesty Margareta and Prince Radu will hold vigil besides the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II, in Westminster Hall. The Custodian of the Crown and the Prince Consort arrived in London on Saturday to attend the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The Custodian of the Crown Margareta is the daughter of the last Sovereign of Romania, King Michael I (1921-2017), who reigned between 1940 and 1947, when the communist puppet government, installed by the Soviet occupation troops, forced him to abdicate and go into exile. The Romanian and British royal houses are related.

Anniversary. Numerous cultural events are scheduled today in the Capital of Romania, to mark 563 years since Bucharest was first mentioned in documents. Todays capital was first named on September 21, 1459, in a document issued by Vlad the Impaler, the then voivode of the medieval principality of Wallachia and later a source of inspiration for the famous fictional character Dracula by the Irish writer Bram Stoker.

Romania’s president attends the state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II

High-ranking political leaders and representatives of royal houses from around the world are expected to attend the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, aged 96. According to Buckingham Palace, the funeral will take place on Monday, September 19, at 11:00 local time, at Westminster Abbey in London. Romania will be represented by President Klaus Iohannis. He has already signed the condolence book opened in memory of the Queen at the residence in Bucharest of the ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

In these moments of great sadness, Romania is with the British people and the Royal Family, sharing your pain and paying respectful tribute to the memory of Her Majesty. Spanning seven decades, Her Majesty’s reign shaped modern history and will be remembered as an exceptional symbol of loyalty and commitment to public service. Her Majesty’s legacy will remain in our hearts and minds’ – President Iohannis wrote in the condolence book.

As for the Romanian Royal Family, it received with great pain the news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Both descendants of Queen Victoria, Elizabeth II and the former King Michael I of Romania, who died in 2017, were third cousins. According to records, King Michael met his wife, Princess Ana, in 1947, at Elizabeth’s wedding with Prince Phillip. And in 2012, the Romanian sovereign stood next to the Queen during the events organized on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee, being linked their entire lives through affection, admiration and friendship.

Now, upon Queen Elizabeth II’s departure from this world, the custodian of the Romanian Crown, Margareta, and Prince Consort Radu will attend the Queen’s funeral service in London. Her Majesty Margareta found in Queen Elizabeth II, throughout her entire life, unparalleled support, a model of royal leadership and courage, a bright beacon. Queen Elizabeth was always present in the life of the Romanian Royal Family and kept an uninterrupted family connection. After the death of King Michael and of the Duke of Edinburgh, to Margareta Queen Elizabeth II was a fundamental point of reference, an element of moral, intellectual, affective and institutional support, the Royal House of Romania has stated.

There is a lot of pain these days in the United Kingdom, as for almost all Britons Queen Elizabeth is the only monarch they have known. However, there is also a lot of hope and enthusiasm for the new King, Charles III, who is also a very close friend to Romania. (MI)

  • God save the Queen

    God save the Queen

iunie, când are loc celebrarea evenimentului.

    the colour.
