    Romanian officials react to Trump shooting

    “Violence and aggression are not attributes of any democracy”, President Klaus Iohannis conveyed in a message on Sunday in response to the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump. “I am horrified by the attack on former President Trump at his campaign rally. I wish him a speedy and complete recovery. Violence and aggression are not attributes of any democracy. We stand with the American people”, Iohannis wrote on X.

     

     

     

    Senate Speaker, Nicolae Ciucă, condemned the attack on former US President Donald Trump, stressing that hatred, bias and violence have no place in the life of any democracy. “The attack on former US President Donald Trump is an attack on freedom of expression and assembly. I wish him a speedy recovery. God bless him and God bless the American people”, Nicolae Ciucă wrote on X on Sunday.

     

     

     

    Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu in turn conveyed a message in the context of the armed attack on former US President Donald Trump, saying that, regardless of political or ideological differences, violence is never justified or acceptable. “I wish a speedy recovery to president Trump and all the victims of this horrific attack! Regardless of political or ideological differences, resorting to violence is never justified or acceptable”, the Prime Minister also wrote on X.

     

     

     

    “The assassination attempt on former President Trump is a serious attack on the United States. Nothing can justify violence in politics, it is absolutely shocking. My thoughts go out to President Trump, whom I wish a speedy recovery and good health. The context in which the assassination attempt took place makes it an attack on democracy and freedom, thus an attack on the fundamental values ​​that define the United States”, MEP Eugen Tomac, president of PMP, in turn wrote.

     

     

     

    “The assassination attempt against Donald Trump is shocking – we pray for his safety and wish him and those who were injured in Pennsylvania a speedy recovery. Politically motivated violence has no place in a democratic society, it should never be used and always condemned”, Romania’s Ambassador to the USA, Andrei Muraru, also wrote.

    Trump injured during shooting at Pennsylvania rally

    SHOOTING – Former US president Donald Trump was shot in the right ear during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. The president was rushed off stage quickly by Secret Service. According to preliminary reports, the shooter fired multiple shots from an “elevated position” overseeing the stage before US Secret Service personnel “neutralized” him. Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger told the media that one audience member was also killed in the ensuing panic.  According to law enforcement officials, the shooting is now investigated as an attempted assassination.

     

    One of Trump’s senior campaign advisers released a statement after the attack, stating that “President Trump is doing well and grateful to law enforcement and first responders for their fast action”.

     

    Shortly after the attack, president Joe Biden was briefed on the developments. “I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it”, president Biden said in a statement.

    Scores of other US former and current officials have condemned the attack, wishing the former president a speedy recovery.

     

    Trump is expected to receive a formal nomination at the Republican National Convention, slated for Monday in Milwaukee, which will proceed on schedule, one party official said. (VP)
