    DRONE According to the Defence Ministry in Bucharest, its surveillance and monitoring systems last night identified an air target which was flying into Romania’s airspace for nearly one kilometer on its way to Ukraine. Authorities immediately conveyed a RO-Alert message to prevent the population in the area and two F-16s belonging to Romania’s Air Force and two Eurofighters jet planes belonging to the Spanish Air force took off. The same sources have also reported a possible impact on the national soil close to the border with Ukraine, but without any material damage. In another development, the president of the neighboring Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, said today that two Russian drones violated the air space of her country and exploded on the ground. No citizens were in danger. Sources of the Ukrainian army announced that last night Russia attacked Ukraine with 140 drones.

     

    NATO NATO defence ministers are convening in Brussels for the first time since Republican Donald Trump started his mandate at the White House. High on the agenda is a negotiated solution to the war in Ukraine. Tomorrow the participants will be focusing on how to raise military expenses and the war in Ukraine. NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, has called on the allies, which didn’t’ raise their defence budgets over 2% yet, to do that until summer. Rutte has hinted that at the NATO summit this year he will be calling for a 3% raise of the GDP. He has also said the European allies and Canada should raise their support for Ukraine much over what the United States is offering now.

     

    TRADE The expansion of the free-trade zone in the Romanian Black Sea port of Constanta is high on the agenda of the Romanian government today. The Executive wants to give an impetus to the region’s economic development and improve trade exchanges in the region. In another development, the coalition government is expected to make a decision aimed at carrying on the present scheme of capped prices in electricity for household consumers, which is supposed to end in late March and lead to higher invoices. Sources of the ruling coalition say that pensioners with a monthly income of 514 Euros will benefit from financial support in two stages. The Labour Ministry is expected to draw up a draft law in this respect, which is going to be endorsed by the government. We recall that early this year, the Executive decided not to adjust pensions to the inflation rate as envisaged, a move, which has triggered a wave of discontent.

     

    FCSB Romania’s football champions FCSB will take on the Greek champions, PAOK Thessaloniki, in an away match tonight which counts towards the first round of the play-offs for qualifying for the Europa League’s round of sixteen. The return match is due in Bucharest on February 20. PAOK, which is coached by Romanian Razvan Lucescu, and FCSB also met this season in the competition’s main stage, and the Romanians won the match in Thessaloniki 1-0. FCSB ended the main stage in the eleventh place, whereas PAOK in the 22nd. The first eight sides have qualified directly for the eighth finals, while the others ranking from the ninth position to the 24th have joined a double-legged playoff to make it to the round of 16.

    The Romanian handball side Dinamo Bucharest on Thursday registered their third consecutive win in the Champions League groups. The trainees of headcoach David Davis Cámara secured a 34-25 win against Pelister Bitola, the champions of North Macedonia in a match counting towards Group A.

    Dinamo’s best player was the Hungarian Miklós Rosta, who scored seven goals. After three legs, only two Group A sides haven’t tasted defeat yet; they are Sporting Lisabon and Dinamo Bucharest. The Romanian side will have their next game on October 10 against the Hungarians from Veszprém, currently coached by Xavi Pascual, the former technician of the Romanian champions.

    We continue with football. The Romanian eleven FCSB has started off on the right foot in the Europa League. The Romanian champions secured a 4-1 win, on the National Arena in Bucharest, against the Latvian side RFS. Daniel Bîrligea scored for the hosts in the 8th minute, Marius Ştefănescu, in the 32nd minute and Darius Olaru twice in the 58th and 69th minutes. The Slovenian Žiga Lipušček scored for the visitors on the 23rd minute.

    FCSB will be taking on PAOK Salonic in an away game next Thursday, an eleven coached by Romanian Răzvan Lucescu. In their first match in the present edition of Europa League, the Greek side lost in Istanbul 3-1 to local side Galatasaray.

    This weekend will be seeing the games of the 11th leg of the Romanian Football Superleague

    Friday will be seeing two matches: Petrolul Ploieşti versus FC Hermannstadt and Dinamo Bucharest versus FC Botoşani. On Saturday, Politehnica Iaşi, on their own turf, will be taking on Universitatea Cluj, and CFR Cluj will be up against UTA, after which Rapid will be playing Oţelul Galaţi in Bucharest. Two other games will be taking place on Sunday when Gloria Buzău will receive Farul Constanţa, and FCSB will be up against Sepsi OSK in an away game. The leg’s last game, on Monday: Universitatea Craiova will be up against Unirea Slobozia. Universitatea Cluj tops the table with 22 points, followed by Oţelul Galaţi with 17.

    Head-coach of the year in 2020

    Romanian sports at world level is represented by dozens of head-coaches activating in many sports disciplines, and some of them have been doing their job at top-notch level. Needless to say that football head-coaches enjoy the greatest notoriety. In 2020, four names of football head-coaches have hit the headlines. With title holders CFR Cluj, for instance, Dan Petrescu won a new edition of the domestic championship and saw his team getting through to the Europa Leagues group stage.



    Lucescu was at the helm of Dynamo Kiyv, taking the team all the way up to the Champions Leagues group stage. In China, Cosmin Olaroiu won Chinas Superleague with Jiangsu Suning. In Saudi Arabia, with Razvan Lucescu at the helm, Al-Hilal won the domestic championship and the Kings Cup. Thanks to the two trophies he won this year, Razvan Lucescu outclassed the other three head-coaches and was designated Head-coach of the Year in 2020 by Radio Romania International.



    Răzvan Lucescu is the son of former great Romanian footballer and head-coach Mircea Lucescu. He was born in Bucharest on 17 February 1969. As a footballer, Razvan was goalkeeper for such Romanian teams as Sportul Studenţesc, FC Naţional, FC Braşov and Rapid Bucharest. As a head-coach, Razvan Lucescus best results were provided by his stint with Rapid Bucharest. The team won Romanian Cup twice. In 2006 Rapid reached as far as UEFA Cups quarterfinals, the teams blazing trail back then including wins in games against Feyenoord Rotterdam, Shakhtar Donetsk, Hertha Berlin and SV Hamburg. Yet Rapid failed to qualify in the semifinals, conceding defeat, on aggregate, to Steaua Bucharest, after two draws.



    Over 2009 and 2011, Razvan Lucescu was the head-coach of Romanias national team. In 2019, he won the Greek domestic championship and the Cup of Greece with PAOK Thessalonica. Lucescu Jr also won the Asian Champions League with the Saudi team Al-Hilal and was designated the head-coach of the year at the Romanian Football Gala in 2019. The two trophies he won in 2020 yet again earned Razvan Lucescu a place among the best Romanian coaches.

    Dutzende von Cheftrainern repräsentieren den rumänischen Sport auf Weltebene. Sie sind in vielen Sportdisziplinen aktiv und einige von ihnen haben ihren Auftrag auf höchstem Niveau erfüllt. Unnötig zu sagen, dass Fußball-Cheftrainer die größte Berühmtheit genießen. Im Jahr 2020 haben die Namen von vier Fußball-Trainern aus Rumänien für Schlagzeilen gesorgt. So gewann Dan Petrescu mit dem Titelverteidiger CFR Klausenburg eine Neuauflage der heimischen Meisterschaft und brachte sein Team bis in die Gruppenphase der Europa League. Mircea Lucescu führte die Mannschaft von Dynamo Kiew bis in die Gruppenphase der Champions League. In China gewann Cosmin Olaroiu mit Jiangsu Suning die chinesische Superleague. In Saudi-Arabien gewann Al-Hilal unter der Leitung von Răzvan Lucescu die nationale Meisterschaft und den King’s Cup. Dank der beiden Trophäen, die er in diesem Jahr gewann, ließ Răzvan Lucescu die anderen drei Cheftrainer hinter sich und wurde von Radio Rumänien International zum Cheftrainer des Jahres 2020 gewählt.



    Răzvan Lucescu ist der Sohn des ehemaligen großen rumänischen Fußballspielers und Cheftrainers Mircea Lucescu. Er wurde am 17. Februar 1969 in Bukarest geboren. Als Fußballer war Răzvan Lucescu Torhüter bei rumänischen Mannschaften wie Sportul Studenţesc, FC Naţional, FC Braşov und Rapid Bukarest. Als Cheftrainer feierte Răzvan Lucescu seine größten Erfolge mit Rapid Bukarest. Die Mannschaft gewann zweimal den rumänischen Pokal. Im Jahr 2006 erreichte Rapid das Viertelfinale des UEFA-Cups und damit den größten Erfolg der Vereinsgeschichte. Damals gewann die Mannschaft von Lucescu unter anderem Partien gegen Feyenoord Rotterdam, Schachtar Donezk, Hertha BSC Berlin und den Hamburger SV. Doch im Viertelfinale scheiterte Rapid nach zwei Unentschieden an dem Stadtrivalen Steaua Bukarest.



    In den Jahren 2009 bis 2011 war Răzvan Lucescu mit mäßigem Erfolg Cheftrainer der rumänischen Nationalmannschaft. Im Jahr 2019 gewann er mit PAOK Thessaloniki das Double aus der griechischen Meisterschaft und dem griechischen Pokal. Lucescu Jr. gewann außerdem die asiatische Champions League mit dem saudischen Team Al-Hilal und wurde bei der rumänischen Fußballgala 2019 zum Cheftrainer des Jahres ernannt. Die beiden Trophäen, die er 2020 gewann, brachten Răzvan Lucescu erneut einen Platz unter den besten rumänischen Trainern ein.

    românesc este reprezentat, la nivel mondial, de zeci de antrenori, la multe
    discipline, unii dintre ei activând la cel mai înalt nivel. De notorietatea cea
    mai mare se bucură, evident, antrenorii de fotbal. În 2020, patru nume au
    dominat cronicile fotbalistice. Dan Petrescu a reușit, cu CFR Cluj, câștigarea
    unui nou campionat al României și calificarea în grupele Ligii Europa. Mircea
    Lucescu a condus echipa ucraineană Dinamo Kiev în grupele Ligii Campionilor,
    fiind astfel cel mai vizibil antrenor român la nivel european. Cosmin Olăroiu a
    câștigat, cu Jiangsu Suning, Superliga Chinei. În fine, cu Răzvan Lucescu la
    cârmă, echipa Al-Hilal a câștigat campionatul Arabiei Saudite și Cupa Regelui.
    În cursa pentru Antrenorul Anului 2020, Lucescu junior a avut astfel un pas în
    față în raport cu ceilalți tehnicieni amintiți, grație celor două trofee
    câștigate.

    17 februarie 1969. Ca jucător, a evoluat pe postul de portar la mai multe
    formaţii din România, printre care Sportul Studenţesc, FC Naţional, FC Braşov
    şi Rapid Bucureşti. Cu Rapid a şi avut cele mai bune rezultate, în România, ca
    antrenor. A câştigat două Cupe ale României, iar în 2006 a ajuns până în
    sferturile de finală ale Cupei UEFA, după ce a depăşit formaţii precum
    Feyenoord Rotterdam, Şahtior Doneţk, Hertha Berlin şi SV Hamburg. A ratat însă
    calificarea în semifinale în faţa echipei Steaua Bucureşti, după două rezultate
    de egalitate. Între 2009 şi 2011 a antrenat echipa naţională a României. În
    2019, a câştigat Campionatul şi Cupa
    Greciei cu PAOK Salonic. Apoi, cu echipa saudită Al-Hilal, Lucescu junior s-a
    impus în Liga Campionilor Asiei și a fost desemnat, la Gala Fotbalului
    Românesc, Antrenorul Anului 2019. Au venit apoi cele două trofee din 2020, care
    l-au adus din nou în fruntea antrenorilor români.

    GOVERNMENT
    – The Government in Bucharest on Wednesday adopted the draft state budget and
    the social security budget for next year. Romanian PM Ludovic Orban has
    officially announced that the Bucharest Government will seek Parliament’s vote
    of confidence over the two bills. Next year’s draft national budget and social
    security budget have been published on the finance ministry’s website for debate.
    The national budget is built on a 4.1% economic growth rate, a budget deficit
    of 3.59% and an average inflation rate of 3.1%. Nine ministries will receive
    more money, among which labor, defense, home affairs while smaller amounts will
    be allocated to regional development. President Klaus Iohannis, who chaired the
    Higher Defense Council meeting on Tuesday, where the budgets of the military
    institutions were decided on, said he is satisfied with the draft law.




    COMMEMORATION
    – Events marking 30 years since the anti-communist revolution continued on
    Wednesday in the city of Timisoara, in western Romania. On December 18, 1989,
    protesters were shot on the stairs of the Orthodox Cathedral, while 43 corpses
    were stolen from the morgue of the county hospital and taken by the Securitate,
    the former political police, to the crematory in Bucharest, in an attempt to
    hide the truth. Tuesday was a day of mourning in Timisoara, in memory of the
    victims.




    MINORITIES
    – By promoting policies based on respect, mutual observance of rights and
    values, dialogue and democratic representation at political and institutional
    level, Romania has become one of the most appreciated models of minority rights
    protection, Prime Minister Ludovic Orban said on Wednesday, on the occasion of
    the National Minorities Day. The Romanian society has evolved in the last 30
    years from multiculturalism to interculturalism, by proving that diversity does
    not mean division, but a plus for all, Orban has also said. As many as 18
    ethnic minorities live in Romania at present. In Romania’s Parliament, 17
    minorities have one MP while the Democratic Union of Ethnic Hungarians in
    Romania holds 21 deputy seats and 1 senator seat.




    VISIT – Defense Minister
    Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca, Interior Minister Marcel Vela and the Chief of General
    Staff, General Daniel Petrescu paid a working visit to Afghanistan. According
    to a Defense Ministry release, Nicolae Ciuca visited the military bases in
    Kandahar, in the south, and in Kabul, where he met with the military deployed
    to these areas. Nicolae Ciuca met with General Giles Hill, deputy commander of
    NATO Resolute Support. The two officials looked the security context in
    Afghanistan, Romania’s contribution to the Resolute Support Mission, the
    sixth-largest contributor to this theatre of operations, US support to Romanian
    military as well as the prospects of the 2020 Multinational Command. In turn,
    Interior Minister Marcel Vela met in Kabul with the 24 Romanian gendarmes who
    are taking part in the Resolute Support mission. The Romanian gendarmes are
    trusted by their partners and are completing their missions with
    professionalism. Right now, the Romanian Army has deployed over 1,200 military
    in external missions, of whom 775 in Afghanistan. Since 2002, 30 Romanian
    military were KIA in theatres of operations in Afghanistan, Irak and Kosovo, 27
    in Afghanistan alone.




    FIGHTER JETS – President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday ratified the law on the
    procurement of an additional five F-16 fighter jets from Portugal. The law was
    passed as a top priority in Parliament, as the offer to the Government expired
    at the end of the year, Defense Minister Nicolae Ciuca has said. Romania right
    now has 12 F-16 fighter jets, all bought from Portugal.


    FOOTBALL
    – At the Romanian Football Awards, Razvan Lucescu has been designated coach of
    the year for having won the championship and cup of Greece with PAOK
    Thessaloniki and the Asian Champions League with the Saudi side Al-Hilal. From
    the beginning of his career Lucescu proved to be one of the best Romanian coaches.
    Aged 37, Lucescu in 2006 coached Rapid Bucharest to the quarterfinals of the
    UEFA Cup after beating teams like Feyenoord Rotterdam, Shaktar Donetsk, Hertha
    Berlin and SV Hamburg. Rapid failed to qualify to the semifinals after two

    Die Regierung von Bukarest hat am Mittwoch den Entwurf des Staats- und Sozialversicherungshaushalts für das nächste Jahr angenommen. Der liberale Premierminister Ludovic Orban hat angekündigt, dass die beiden Dokumente durch die Übernahme der Verantwortung vor dem Parlament gefördert werden. Der Entwurf des Staats- und Sozialversicherungshaushalts für das kommende Jahr wurde auf der Website des Finanzministeriums veröffentlicht. Der Staatshaushalt basiert auf einem Wirtschaftswachstum von 4,1 %, einem Haushaltsdefizit von 3,59 % und einer durchschnittlichen Inflationsrate von 3,1 %. Neun Ministerien werden mehr Geld erhalten, darunter das Arbeits-, Verteidigungs- und Innenministerium, kleinere Beträge gehen an das Gesundheitswesen und die regionale Entwicklung. Präsident Klaus Iohannis, der den Vorsitz im Obersten Landesverteidigungsrat hat, zeigte sich nach den Treffen am Dienstag, auf dem über die Haushalte der militärischen Institutionen entschieden wurde, zufrieden mit dem Entwurf.



    Feierlichkeiten anlässlich der 30. Jährung der antikommunistischen Revolution fanden am Mittwoch in der westrumänischen Stadt Timisoara statt. Am 18. Dezember 1989 wurden Demonstranten auf der Treppe der orthodoxen Kathedrale in Timisoara erschossen. Anschließend transportierte die Securitate, die ehemalige politische Polizei, 43 Leichen aus der Leichenhalle des Kreiskrankenhauses Timisioara nach Bukarest, um diese im Krematorium zu verbrennen. Am Dienstag war in Timisoara Trauertag zum Gedenken an die Opfer.



    Durch Politik, die auf Achtung, gegenseitige Anerkennung der Rechte und Werte, Dialog und demokratische Repräsentation auf politischer und institutioneller Ebene beruht, ist Rumänien zu einem der meist geschätzten Modelle für den Schutz der Minderheitenrechten geworden, sagte Premierminister Ludovic Orban am Mittwoch anlässlich des Tags der nationalen Minderheiten. Die rumänische Gesellschaft hat sich in den letzten 30 Jahren vom Multikulturalismus zum Interkulturalismus entwickelt, indem sie bewiesen hat, dass Vielfalt keine Trennung, sondern ein Vorteil für alle bedeutet“, sagte Orban ebenfalls. In Rumänien leben derzeit bis zu 18 ethnischen Minderheiten. Im rumänischen Parlament haben 17 Minderheiten einen Vertreter, während der Demokratische Verband der Ungarn in Rumänien, UDMR, 21 Abgeordnete und einen Senatorensitz hat.



    Die Abgeordnetenkammer hat die Aufhebung der Sonderrenten auf Februar vertagt. Tausende Gerichtsschreiber haben gegen die Absicht der Regierung, die Sonderrenten aus dem Justizsystem aufzuheben, protestiert. Während der Protestaktion waren Archiv und Register nicht zugänglich, gerichtliche Verhandlungen mussten unterlassen werden. Am Mittwoch hat die Abgeordnetenkammer die Zulagen für Kinder auf circa 62 Euro angehoben.

Lucescu erwies sich von Beginn seiner Karriere an als einer der besten rumänischen Techniker. Mit nur 37 Jahren trainierte er 2006 Rapid Bukarest bis ins Viertelfinale des UEFA-Pokals, nachdem er Mannschaften wie Feyenoord Rotterdam, Shaktar Donetsk, Hertha Berlin und den SV Hamburg besiegt hatte.     Anul care se
    încheie nu a fost deosebit de bun pentru fotbalul românesc. Echipa naţională,
    de pildă, a ratat calificarea directă la Euro 2020, depăşind, în Grupa F, doar
    reprezentativele Maltei şi Insulelor Feroe. Au existat însă performanţe care
    merită luate în seamă, iar astăzi vorbim de cele înregistrate la nivelul
    antrenorilor.


    La Gala
    Fotbalului Românesc, antrenorul anului a fost desemnat Răzvan Lucescu. În
    2019, el a câştigat Campionatul şi Cupa Greciei cu PAOK Salonic. Apoi, cu
    echipa saudită Al-Hilal, Lucescu junior s-a impus în Liga Campionilor Asiei. A fost, încă din debutul carierei de
    antrenor, unul dintre cei mai promiţători tehnicieni din campionatul român. La
    doar 37 de ani, mai exact în 2006, a ajuns, cu Rapid Bucureşti, până în
    sferturile de finală ale Cupei UEFA, după ce a depăşit formaţii precum
    Feyenoord Rotterdam, Şahtior Doneţk, Hertha Berlin şi SV Hamburg. A ratat însă

    Un alt antrenor
    care a ajuns de tânăr la un nivel înalt de performanţă este Mirel Rădoi. Anul
    acesta, la doar 38 de ani, a fost desemnat selecţioner al reprezentativei
    naţionale a României. Alegerea lui s-a bazat, în principal, pe rezultatele
    Naţionalei de tineret la Campionatul European din Italia şi San Marino care,
    sub conducerea sa, a ajuns până în semifinalele competiţiei. Tricolorii mici au
    câştigat Grupa C a Campionatului, după 4 la 1 cu Croaţia, 4-2 cu Anglia şi 0 la
    0 cu Franţa, obţinând astfel şi calificarea la Jocurile Olimpice de la Tokyo.
    România nu a mai participat la Jocurile Olimpice de la ediţia din 1964,
    găzduită tot de Japonia, când selecţionata noastră ajungea în sferturile de
    finală.


    Cel mai bun
    rezultat al fotbalului românesc la nivel de seniori, în 2019, a fost calificarea
    echipei CFR Cluj în şaisprezecimile de finală ale Ligii Europa. De şase ani nu
    mai ajunsese o echipă din România în primăvara fotbalului european. Mai mult,
    cu 12 puncte obţinute în cele 6 jocuri disputate în grupa E, CFR a reuşit un
    record pentru o echipă românească în faza grupelor unei cupe europene.
    Diferenţa a făcut-o antrenorul Dan Petrescu, cel care a reuşit să exploateze la
    maxim potenţialul lotului clujean. El este considerat, în acest moment, cel mai
    bun antrenor din liga întâi. Ca jucător, are o uriaşă experienţă care
    include şi cinci ani petrecuţi la Chelsea. Ca antrenor, a reuşit, printre
    altele, să ajungă, în 2009, în Liga Campionilor cu Unirea Urziceni, cu care a învins,
    cu 4-1, în deplasare, echipa scoţiană
    Glasgow Rangers şi a trecut, acasă, cu 1-0, de formaţia spaniolă
    Sevilla. Cu gruparea andaluză, Dan
    Petrescu se va întâlni şi în primăvară, în şaisprezecimile de finală ale Ligii
    Europa.

    Two Romanian men’s handball teams will prove their mettle in the Challenge Cup in men’s handball. On Saturday, CSM Bucharest outclassed HC Mashenka of Belarus in the first leg of the tie, counting towards the Challenge Cup’s third round, CSM had secured a 34-28 win, while in the second leg, CSM was defeated, 25-28. Both matches were played in Mogylev, Belarus. A 38-35 first-leg win, away from home, and a 32-all home draw, played in Turda, secured Potaissa Turda’s qualification at the expense of Latvian opponents TENAX Dobele. We recall Potaissa is the winner of the Challenge Cup in 2018.


    Romanian head-coach Razvan Lucescu has won the Asian Champions League in football with Saudi team Al Hilal Ryadh. This past Sunday, Al Hilal defeated Japanese contenders Urawa Red Diamonds away from home, 2-nil, in the final confrontation’s second leg. WE recall Al Hilal had secured a 1-nil win n home turf. It was the first trophy won by Al Hilal in the Asian Champions League. The competition was re-launched in 2002. In 1991 and 2000, Al Hilal had also emerged as winners, when the competition rolled as The Asian Clubs Championship. Al Hilal will represent Asia in the Clubs’ World Cup, to be held in Qatar, in December.


    Romanian striker Bogdan Stancu scored both goals for his team, Genclerbirligi Ankara, as the team secured a 2-1 away win against Kasimpasha, in the 12th round of Turkey’s championship. Aytac Kara drew first blood for the Istanbul team on 54 minutes, but Stancu provided the leveller on 82 minutes. It was also Stancu who sealed the fate of the game in minute 88, turning a penalty kick into a goal. The former Romanian international football has scored six goals in the ongoing season.


    This past weekend saw matches matches being played, counting towards League One’s 17th round. On Friday, CFR Cluj secured 4-nil home win against Chindia Targovoiste. On Saturday, Poli Iasi and FC Voluntari drew, 2-all, while in Bucharest, Astra Giurgiu won the game against FCSB, 3-1. Three matches were played on Sunday. Academica Clinceni managed a 2-all home draw against Dinamo Bucharest. Gaz Metan Medias were held by FC Botosani to a blank draw. In the southern Romaniantownn of Craiova, Universitatea secured a 3-nil win against FC Hermannstadt Sibiu.The 17th round’s last game this coming Monday will see Viitorul Constanta taking on Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe. CFR Cluj are at the top of the table, with 34 points, followed by Universitatea Craiova and Astra Giurgiu, with 31 points each.

    Two Romanian men’s handball teams will prove their mettle in the Challenge Cup in men’s handball. On Saturday, CSM Bucharest outclassed HC Mashenka of Belarus in the first leg of the tie, counting towards the Challenge Cup’s third round, CSM had secured a 34-28 win, while in the second leg, CSM was defeated, 25-28. Both matches were played in Mogylev, Belarus. A 38-35 first-leg win, away from home, and a 32-all home draw, played in Turda, secured Potaissa Turda’s qualification at the expense of Latvian opponents TENAX Dobele. We recall Potaissa is the winner of the Challenge Cup in 2018.

    The Greek
    football club PAOK Thessaloniki, currently coached by Razvan Lucescu, has won
    the Greek championship. In the last but one round, Lucescu’s trainees trounced
    Levadiakos 5-nil on home turf. Following this result, PAOK reached 77 points in
    the tables, five more than the runner-up Olympiakos Piraeus and mathematically
    secured the title.


    PAOK has
    previously won the championship twice, in 1976 and 1985. The team missed the chance
    to win the title last season due to the fan-provoked incidents in the matches
    played against Olympiakos and AEK Athens.


    Football pundits
    claim PAOK’s triumph this season is mainly owed to the team’s head coach,
    Razvan Lucescu. Lucescu took over PAOK in 2017 and has already won the Greek
    Cup. If the team wins the Super League at the end of May and secures the
    treble, Lucescu may become the most important coach in the club’s history. The
    only other coach who obtained similar results was Les Shannon, who in the 1970s
    won the two Greek Cups and the Greater Greece Cup, a trophy pitting the winners
    of the Greek Cup and the Cypriot Cup as challengers on Easter day. Shannon
    however never won the Greek domestic championship with PAOK.


    Razvan Lucescu
    is the son of the former football legend and coach Mircea Lucescu. He was born
    on February 17, 1969 in Bucharest. As a player he played as goalkeeper for
    several teams in Romania, including Sportul Studentesc, FC National, FC Brasov
    and Rapid Bucharest. His spell at Rapid brought Razvan his most notable
    results, also as a coach. He won two Romanian Cups, while in 2006 he got the
    team through to the UEFA Cup quarterfinals, after knocking out teams such as
    Feynoord Rotterdam, Shakhtar Donetsk, Hertha Berlin and SV Hamburg. Rapid at
    the time lost the quarterfinals to Steaua Bucharest. In 2009 and 2011 Lucescu
    also trained Romania’s national team. He started coaching in Greece in 2014,
    when he took over the club Skoda Xanthi.

    Echipa de fotbal PAOK Salonic, formaţia
    antrenorului român Răzvan Lucescu, a câştigat campionatul Greciei. În penultima
    etapă, gruparea lui Lucescu junior a trecut, duminică, de Levadiakos, pe teren
    propriu, cu 5 la 0. În urma acestei victorii, PAOK a ajuns la 77 de puncte şi
    nu mai poate fi ajunsă de a doua clasată, Olympiakos Pireu, de care o despart
    acum cinci puncte.


    Formaţia din Salonic mai are două titluri
    de campioană în palmares, obţinute în 1976 şi 1985. Echipa a ratat titlul în
    sezonul trecut din cauza incidentelor produse de fani la meciurile cu
    Olympiakos şi AEK Atena.


    Mulţi specialişti pun succesul de anul
    acesta al formaţiei PAOK Salonic în principal pe seama antrenorului Răzvan
    Lucescu. Acesta conduce echipa din 2017 şi a câştigat deja Cupa Greciei. Dacă
    adăugăm Superliga care se va încheia în luna mai, Lucescu poate fi considerat drept
    cel mai important antrenor, ca rezultate interne, din istoria clubului. El este
    concurat doar de englezul Les Shannon care, în anii ’70 ai secolului trecut,
    câştiga două Cupe ale Greciei şi Cupa Greciei Mari, un trofeu pentru care se
    confruntau, de Paşte, câştigătoarea Cupei Greciei şi deţinătoarea Cupei
    Ciprului. Shannon nu a câştigat însă niciodată campionatul elen cu PAOK.



    Răzvan
    Lucescu este fiul fostului mare jucător, actualmente antrenor, Mircea Lucescu.
    S-a născut la Bucureşti, pe 17 februarie 1969. Ca jucător, a evoluat pe postul
    de portar la mai multe formaţii din România, printre care Sportul Studenţesc,
    FC Naţional, FC Braşov şi Rapid Bucureşti. Cu Rapid a şi avut cele mai bune
    rezultate, în România, ca antrenor. A câştigat două Cupe ale României, iar în
    2006 a ajuns până în sferturile de finală ale Cupei UEFA, după ce a depăşit
    formaţii precum Feyenoord Rotterdam, Şahtior Doneţk, Hertha Berlin şi SV
    Hamburg. A ratat însă calificarea în semifinale în faţa echipei Steaua
    Bucureşti, după două rezultate de egalitate. Între 2009 şi 2011 a antrenat
    echipa naţională a României. În Grecia se află din 2014, de când a preluat
    conducerea echipei Skoda Xanthi.

    Răzvan Lucescu, PAOK Salonic, se află foarte aproape de grupele Ligii
    Campionilor. În manşa întâi a play-offului, formaţia elenă a încheiat la
    egalitate, scor 1 la 1, jocul disputat în deplasare cu Benfica Lisabona. Benfica
    a deschis scorul prin Pizzi, în minutul 45, din penalty. Vicecampioana Greciei
    a egalat prin egipteanul Amr Warda, în minutul 76. Partida retur este
    programată miercurea viitoare, în Grecia.


    Răzvan Lucescu este fiul unuia dintre cei
    mai titraţi antrenori români, şi anume Mircea Lucescu. Pentru el, calificarea
    în Liga Campionilor ca antrenor ar fi o premieră în carieră. Cea mai mare
    performanţă a sa, ca tehnician, a fost calificarea, cu Rapid Bucureşti, în sferturile
    de finală ale Cupei UEFA, în 2006. Echipa antrenată de el a ratat atunci
    accesul în semifinale în faţa unei alte formaţii române, Steaua Bucureşti, după
    1-1 acasă şi 0-0 în deplasare.


    Selecţionerul reprezentativei de tineret a
    României, Mirel Rădoi, a convocat patru stranieri pentru meciurile cu
    Portugalia şi Bosnia-Herţegovina, din Grupa a 3-a a preliminariilor
    Campionatului European de fotbal pentru jucători sub 21 de ani din 2019. Rădoi,
    numit în funcţie la începutul lunii, a apelat la portarul Andrei Ionuţ Radu, de
    la Genoa, la fundaşii Ionuţ Nedelcearu, de la echipa rusă Ufa, şi Alexandru
    Paşcanu, de la Leicester City, precum şi la atacantul Andrei Ivan, de la Rapid
    Viena. Tehnicianul a alcătuit şi o listă adiţională, pe care se află Vladimir
    Screciu, de la Genk, Adrian Petre, de la formaţiia daneză Esbjerg, Marco Dulca,
    de la Swansea City, Mihai Dobre, de la Bournemouth, şi Andrei Raţiu, de la
    Villarreal. Lotul final, care va include şi jucătorii din campionatul intern, va
    fi anunţat ulterior. Pe 7 septembrie, tinerii tricolori vor întâlni
    selecţionata Portugaliei, în deplasare, iar pe 11 septembrie vor juca, la
    Ovidiu, cu Bosnia-Herţegovina.


    UEFA a deschis o procedură disciplinară
    împotriva clubului FCSB, după incidentele petrecute la Bucureşti, în timpul
    jocului cu formaţia croată Hajduk Split, în manşa secundă a turului al treilea
    preliminar al Europa League. Sunt evocate incidente precum aruncarea de obiecte
    spre suprafaţa de joc, aprinderea de torţe şi pătrunderea unor suporteri pe
    teren, la care se adaugă deficienţe de organizare. Cazul va fi analizat de
    Comisia de Control, Etică şi Disciplină a UEFA în data de 31 august.
