Romania’s handball side CSM Bucharest on
Sunday qualified for the eighth finals of the EHF European Cup, Europe’s third
major club competition. The Romanians secured a 38-28 home win against Turkish side
Spor Toto in the second leg’s third round. CSM had also won the first game in
    Ankara 33-27.

A week ago, another Romanian side, Minaur
Baia Mare, qualified for the round of 16 of the same competition after a double
win against the Cypriotes from Parnassos Strovolou, whom they beat 28-25 and
29-24. The round of 16 games have been scheduled for February concurrently with
the games of the EHF European League, where Romania is being represented by
    Dinamo Bucharest.

And now the latest from football.
Saturday and Sunday saw the games counting towards the 15th leg of Romania’s
first football league. The leg’s first game, Chindia Targoviste versus FC Arges
ended in a draw, 2-all. FC Arges haven’t won a game in the past 6 legs; they have
drawn three games and have been defeated three times. Also on Saturday, in
Medias, local side Gaz Metan clinched a 1-0 win against Viitorul Constanta. The
year 2020 ends without a win for coach Mircea Rednic, whose side has so far
registered a draw and two defeats.

The city of Medias on Saturday played venue for a match pitching FC
Hermannstadt against Politehnica Iasi. Poli clinched a 1-0 win against Hermannstadt,
which had been undefeated for three legs. Poli has thus left the last position
on the table, which is now occupied by FC Arges. The other two games on Sunday ended
with the same result, one-all. FC Voluntari secured an away draw against
Botosani but had no win in the past five legs, having registered two draws and
    three defeats.

Also in a draw ended the game in Calarasi, pitching two sides in good
shape, Academica Clinceni and Dinamo Bucharest. Academica has remained
undefeated after 8 consecutive games, with 5 wins and 3 draws. Dinamo has a
single defeat in the past six games together with three wins and two draws.

UTA Arad will take on Astra Giurgiu on Monday while FCSB plays Sfantu
Gheorghe. The leg ends on Tuesday with a match in Cluj, central Romania, pitching
local side CFR against Universitatea Craiova. FCSB is at the top of the table
