    This week has
    seen the games counting towards the round of 32 finals of Romania’s Football
    Cup. Four games took place on Tuesday: second-leaguer FC Arges secured a 2-1
    home win against Poli Iasi from the first Romanian football league. In Ploiesti,
    central Romania, CS Mioveni, also from the second league, obtained a 4-3 win
    after extra time and penalty shootouts against local side Petrolul, currently
    playing in Romania’s third football league. Universitatea Cluj, also a
    third-leaguer, clinched a 2-1 home win against Stiinta Miroslava, from the
    second league. And in the last game pitching two first leaguers in Brasov,
    central Romania, Universitatea Craiova defeated Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe 2-0.


    Wednesday saw 10 games. Trophy holder FC Voluntari was eliminated by
    the second league leader AFC Hermannstadt 1-0 in the injury-time. In a game
    opposing two second-leaguers, CS Afumati thrashed UTA Arad 5-2, while in
    Slobozia, third-leaguer Unirea secured a 4-0 win against ASA Targu Mures, from
    the second football league. Clinceni, a town close to Bucharest, hosted a game
    between two second leaguers, in which local side Academica conceded a 1-0
    defeat to Chindia Targoviste. Gaz Metan Medias, from the first football league,
    obtained a 2-1 win against Metaloglobus, from the second football league, while
    first-leaguer Juventus Bucharest outperformed Dacia Unirea of Braila 2-1.

    Romania’s champions Viitorul Constanta scored four times in Resita, central
    Romania against the local Municipal School Sports Club, which fired home only
    twice. Two sides from Romania’s first football league met in Chiajna, close to
    Bucharest: local side Concordia and Astra, with the latter eventually claiming
    the match, 3-0. Two local sides clashed in Timisoara, western Romania: Politehnica,
    from the second league, took on first-leaguer Poli in a match won by the latter
    1-0. In the day’s last game in Cluj, also in western Romania, local squad
    Sanatatea was up against FCSB in a match that ended 6-1 to the latter.


    The leg’s two matches are
    due on Thursday, with FC Botosani taking on CFR Cluj and Aerostar Bacau, from
