    AID The European Commission has given the green light to reintroducing an approximately EUR 2.5 mln scheme for Romania to support companies in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine. The aid will be granted as guarantees and direct grants. The measure is designed to ensure that companies affected by the economic disruptions caused by the war are left with enough liquidity. The EC found that Romania’s scheme, as it has been reintroduced, remains in line with the terms of the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework. The aid will not exceed EUR 280,000 for an agriculture company, EUR 335,000 for a company operating in the fisheries and aquaculture sector, and EUR 2.25 mln for companies in other sectors.

     

    SEA SHIELD 24 More than 2,200 Allied troops are participating starting this week in a multinational exercise in Romania called “Sea Shield 24”. Until April 21, Romanian soldiers, alongside military from NATO states and the partner states of Georgia and the Republic of Moldova, will be training in the coastal area of the Black Sea, the Danube and the Danube Delta, using 27 sea and river ships, 17 aircraft and 91 vehicles and boats. The Ministry of Defence in Bucharest says the exercise is the most complex event conducted by the Romanian Naval Forces in 2024. Also this week, the Royal Air Force of Great Britain begins an air policing mission in Romania. In the next four months, the British units, comprising around 220 troops and 6 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, will perform enhanced air policing missions under NATO command, together with soldiers of the Romanian Air Force.

     

    ELECTIONS The United Right electoral alliance, made up of the Save Romania Union, the People’s Movement Party and the Force of the Right, in opposition, have submitted their list of candidates for the European Parliament elections of June 9. Top of the list is the former USR leader Dan Barna, followed by the former USR health minister Vlad Voiculescu and the PMP president Eugen Tomac. The president of USR, Cătălin Drulă, said the Alliance has the best list of candidates, comprising “people who are going to the European Parliament or carrying on their work at the European Parliament out of belief, and who have results.” On the other side of the political spectrum, the 2 parties in the ruling coalition, the Social Democratic Party and the National Liberal Party submitted on Friday their own joint list of EP candidates. Opening the list is the former Social-Democratic PM Mihai Tudose and the Liberal MEP Rareș Bogdan. The EP elections in Romania will be held concurrently with the local elections on June 9.

     

    ELECTRICITY Romania has the lowest electricity consumption in Europe per capita, the Association of Energy Prosumers and Communities announced. According to the institution, the transition to the green economy requires an increase of this consumption at the expense of fuels such as natural gas and firewood. The organisation says that in this context electrification is the key to full decarbonisation, and the necessary technologies include heat pumps for households and green hydrogen, along with EVs for the industry.

     

    MOLDOVA A population and housing census began on Monday in the Republic of Moldova. Until July 7, reviewers will go from house to house to collect data about where people in the Republic live, the language they speak, their education, occupation, as well as about their homes. The government spokesperson Daniel Vodă has stated that all citizens will be obliged to answer the reviewers’ questions and provide correct answers, and the authorities have to keep the answers received confidential, Radio Chisinau reports. The last population and housing census in the Republic of Moldova was conducted in 2014. At that time, the population stood at 2,800,000 people, of which only 2.5 million lived in the Republic of Moldova. Also, the data do not cover the pro-Russian separatist region of Transnistria (east), which went, de facto, out of Chisinau’s control in 1992, after an armed conflict involving hundreds of soldiers and ended by the intervention of Moscow’s troops on the side of the secessionist rebels.

     

    ENERGY The close cooperation between Romania and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in developing a civilian nuclear programme and the prospects for strengthening the cooperation in cancer medicine and energy were discussed on Monday by PM Marcel Ciolacu with the Agency’s director, Rafael Grossi. The Romanian foreign minister Luminiţa Odobescu also discussed with Grossi about Russia’s war against Ukraine and the successive attacks on the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia. Luminiţa Odobescu highlighted the important role the Agency plays in the safe and secure use of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes. In turn, Rafael Grossi praised the implementation of new nuclear technologies in Romania, including small scale modular reactors. The AIEA chief also had talks with the energy minister, Sebastian Burduja. The agenda included the revamping on the Cernavodă nuclear power plant Unit 1 and the plans for Units 3 and 4.

    Education – In Bucharest, the education draft laws were approved in the government meeting on Wednesday and are to be debated and adopted in Parliament, in an emergency procedure. The line minister, Ligia Deca, stated that the documents brought together the desiderata and vision of society as a whole with regard to education in the run up to 2030. She gave some examples of changes to the law, such as centering the educational system on the student, stimulating the potential that each child has and accompanying this potential from early education to adulthood. Another desideratum would be to increase the quality and level of functional literacy. Ligia Deca also said that the lessons learned as a result of the successive crises of the recent years were also included in the two laws.



    Protest – Two Romanian trade union federations on Wednesday staged a protest outside the government headquarters, unhappy with the salary scheme in this sector. They demand urgent solutions to enhance the incomes of the auxiliary teaching staff and overtime pay for the teaching and auxiliary staff. The federations also demand the application of the regulations on the payment of bonuses for working conditions, saying that the education employees are the only category of public employees that does not benefit from such bonuses. Similar protests were held last week around the country. Trade unions say they are planning a protest rally in Bucharest in May and even warn of a general strike unless the government finds solutions to the problems of the employees in the education sector.



    Pensions – The Senate has passed a bill on the reform of special pensions, with 79 MPs voting in favor and 37 against. After intense discussions, the bill was approved on Tuesday by the specialist committees, who only accepted the amendments proposed by the parliamentary majority. One of the changes refers to an additional tax of 15% on the special pensions exceeding the gross average salary. Also, special pensions can no longer exceed the incomes obtained before retirement, and beneficiaries cannot receive both a salary and a pension. Around 200,000 people currently benefit from special pensions, of whom 170,000 are former defense and public order employees. Romania has 7 categories of special pensions, including those of magistrates, military and diplomats. Yearly budget expenses connected to special pensions amount to some 2.4 billion Euros. Former magistrates have the highest pensions, even amounting to some 3,600 Euros a month, ten times more than the average state pension. Changing this pension system is a requirement laid down in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and failure to make the change may lose Romania almost 3 billion Euros of EU funding.




    Natural gas – EU energy ministers have decided to extend by another year the recommendation to cut natural gas use by 15%. The measure was initially proposed after the start of the war in Ukraine in an attempt to reduce dependence on Russian gas. According to the Swedish presidency of the EU, thanks to this recommendation, European gas use dropped by almost 20% from August to January. The reduction in consumption also contributed to a drop in prices, said the EU officials.



    Drill — Sea Shield 2023, the most complex NATO military training exercise planned and conducted by the Romanian Naval Forces this year, continued on the Black Sea shore. An evacuation exercise took place on Wednesday, in which the forces involved manage a situation of illegal transport of refugees by sea. Romanian and Bulgarian ships participated. About 3,400 soldiers and representatives of several institutions from the national defense system, as well as from 12 allied and partner states, are participating in Sea Shield 2023. (CM, LS)

    Drogues – Plusieurs paquets de cocaïne ont été découverts samedi et dimanche sur les plages roumaines, à proximité de plusieurs stations du littoral roumain de la Mer Noire. Ces drogues font partie d’un transport pesant environ une tonne, découvert il y a deux semaines à Tulcea (sud-est), lorsque la chaloupe qui les transportait s’est renversée. Ces derniers jours, plus de 300 policiers, gendarmes et plongeurs appuyés par 14 embarcations et deux hélicoptères, ont participé à une vaste opération de saisie de drogues sur les 90 kilomètres du littoral roumain. La police a l’intention de poursuivre l’opération de recherche des paquets de drogue, invitant les personnes qui trouvent de tels colis à ne pas les ouvrir et à annoncer tout de suite les autorités. De même, ces drogues sont extrêmement dangereuses, vu leur une concentration très forte, de plus de 90%, a mis en garde la police. Jusqu’ici 131 kilos de drogues en provenance d’Amérique du Sud ont été dépistés et confisqués par la police roumaine.

    Révolution – Le procureur général de la Roumanie, Augustin Lazar, a fait savoir aujourd’hui que la Section des Parquets militaires a présenté aux juges réquisitoire du dossier de la Révolution anticommuniste roumaine de décembre 1989. Un dossier qui compte plus de 3000 pages, a précisé M Lazar, présentant publiquement les excuses du Ministère public pour la durée excessive de l’enquête, soit une trentaine d’années. Le dossier met en examen l’ancien président Ion Iliescu et l’ancien vice premier ministre Gelu Voican Voiculescu, qui sont accusés de crimes contre l’humanité. Les faits auraient été commis juste après la chute du régime, entre le 22 et le 31 décembre 1989, lorsque les trois personnes mentionnés détenaient des fonctions au Conseil du Front du Salut National, un organisme qui avait repris à l’époque le pouvoir exécutif et législatif. Rappelons que le bilan officiel de la révolution anticommuniste de Roumanie fait état d’un millier de morts et de 3 milliers de blessés, la plupart après chute du régime de Nicolae Ceausescu. Précisons aussi que la Roumanie est le seul pays de l’Europe Centrale et de l’Est où le passage du communisme à la démocratie s’est fait par la violence extrême.

    Motion – Le Sénat de Bucarest doit débattre et voter aujourd’hui la motion simple déposée par le Parti National Libéral (PNL) et l’Union Sauvez la Roumanie (USR), les deux d’opposition, contre le ministre de la Justice, Tudorel Toader. Les signataires du document affirment que les tensions survenues au sein du système judiciaire ne peuvent être apaisées que par le départ du ministre. De même, l’entrée en vigueur des modifications du Code pénal et du Code de procédure pénale, par décret d’urgence, affecte le système judiciaire de Roumanie et serait en total désaccord avec les recommandations des institutions européennes, accuse encore l’opposition. Notons que le 20 mars, la Chambre des députés avait rejeté une autre motion de censure contre le même ministre. Justice – Le chef du Sénat de Bucarest, Calin Popescu Tariceanu, attend aujourd’hui la sentence définitive de la Haute Cour de Cassation et de Justice dans un dossier où il est accusé de faux témoignage et où il a déjà été acquitté en première instance. Le 25 mars dernier, un procureur anticorruption avait demandé que le dossier soit rejugé. Pour sa part, Calin Popescu Tariceanu a qualifié l’enquête de « coup monté ». En mai 2018, le tribunal avait acquitté M Tariceanu, vu qu’il avait été auditionné seulement en tant que témoin par la DNA, malgré les suspicions d’évasion fiscale qui planaient autour de lui. De même, selon la DNA, dans l’enquête sur la rétrocession illégale d’une superficie de forêt et d’une ferme, M Tariceanu aurait fait, sous serrement, des déclarations qui ne correspondaient pas avec la vérité concernant des aspects essentiels du dossier. Cela aurait mis en difficulté la mise en examen des inculpés, accusent aussi les procureurs anticorruption.

    Rroms – La Journée internationale des Rroms est marquée chaque année, le 8 avril. Dans son message transmis à cette occasion, le président roumain Klaus Iohannis affirme que cette journée est une opportunité de condamner fermement les manifestations racistes et celles qui marginalisent les membres de cette ethnie. Cette date sera un vrai jour de fête, au moment où l’émancipation économique, sociale et culturelle des Rroms portera ses fruits. A son tour, la première ministre roumaine, Viorica Dancila, a mentionné la contribution importante de citoyens d’ethnie rrom sur le développement de la société roumaine. Le ministère des Affaires Etrangères de Bucarest souligne de son côté qu’un des objectifs de la présidence roumaine du Conseil de l’UE est de stimuler la solidarité et la cohésion sociale, par la promotion des politiques de lutte contre la discrimination, contre l’intolérance et contre la xénophobie. Selon le site du PE, les Rroms forment la minorité ethnique la plus importante d’Europe qui réunit quelque 10 millions de personnes et ils sont souvent victimes de différentes formes de discrimination et d’exclusion sociale. Selon le recensement de 2011, la Roumanie comptait officiellement plus de 620.000 personnes d’ethnie rrom, soit 3% du total de la population.

    CAE – Le ministre roumain des Affaires Etrangère, Teodor Melesanu, participe aujourd’hui, à Luxembourg, à la réunion du Conseil Affaires Etrangères. A l’agenda des discussions l’on retrouve des sujets d’actualité, tels la situation en Afghanistan ou le Partenariat Oriental. Lors d’un déjeuner informel, les chefs des diplomaties européennes échangeront aussi que les récentes évolutions au Venezuela, lit-on dans un communiqué du ministère roumain des AE.

    Exercice – Les Forces navales roumaines participent jusqu’au 13 avril au plus grand exercice naval multinational, dans les eaux territoriales de la Roumanie et dans les eaux internationales de la Mer Noire. Intitulé «Sea Shield 19», il réunit 14 navires roumains et 6 navires de Bulgarie, Canada, Grèce, Pays-Bas et Turquie. Plus de 2000 militaires effectueront des procédures de lutte contre les menaces subaquatiques, de surface et aériennes, adaptées à la typologie des menaces sécuritaires dans la région de la Mer Noire. Le scénario simule une opération de réponse à la crise sous mandat d’une Résolution du Conseil de Sécurité de l’ONU. Y participent également le Groupe naval permanent de l’OTAN qui est opérationnel en Mer Noire. Le chef d’Etat-major des Forces navales roumaines, le vice-amiral Alexandru Mîrşu, a précisé que « Sea Shield 19 » ne saurait être considéré comme un exercice provocateur. L’OTAN s’inquiète des actions militaires de la Russie dans la région, qu’elle qualifie de significatives et de continues. L’Alliance a d’ailleurs renforcé sa présence en Mer Noire, de 80 à 120 jours par an, alors que le Groupe permanent de lutte contre les mines, témoigne de l’engagement de celle-ci de protéger le flanc est, de prévenir les conflits et de maintenir la paix dans la région.

    Lutte – Bucarest accueille du 8 au 14 avril le Championnat d’Europe de lutte libre et gréco-romaine. Y participent plus de 600 sportifs de 40 pays, dont 30 sportifs de Roumanie. C’est pour la 2e fois que la Roumanie organise cette compétition, après l’édition de 1979.

    Par ailleurs, la Roumaine Elena Andries a remporté trois médailles d’or au Championnat d’Europe d’haltérophilie de Géorgie, à la catégorie des 49 kilos. Dans la même compétition, la Roumanie a décroché 2 médailles de bronze, grâce à Cosmina Pana (catégorie de 45 kilos) et Cristian Marian Luca (catégorie de 55 kilos). 14 sportifs roumains participent à Batoumi, au Championnat d’Europe d’haltérophilie, qui leur offrira la chance d’accumuler des point en vue de la qualification au JO de Tokyo de 2020.

    Météo – Le ciel est partiellement couvert aujourd’hui à l’intérieur de l’arc des Carpates, où des pluies éparses sont signalées. Le ciel est couvert aussi sur le sud et l’est, où les températures approchent la normale saisonnière, avec des maxima qui iront de 13 à 23 degrés. 11 degrés, un temps morose et de la pluie à midi à Bucarest.

    MEETING – On Friday, Romanias President Klaus Iohannis will attend the informal meeting of the heads of state of Bulgaria, Austria and Romania, hosted by Ruse, Bulgaria. The format of the meeting reflects the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union this year and in the first semester of next year. The talks will focus on the current European agenda, with the aim of facilitating a good cooperation and coordination during the three presidencies. Klaus Iohannis will stress Romanias interest in a good cooperation with Bulgaria and Austria, in order to fulfill the common goal of moving forward the European agenda for the citizens benefit. Also, president Iohannis will participate, alongside his Bulgarian and Austrian counterparts Rumen Radev and Alexander Van der Bellen respectively, in the conference titled: “The sustainable development of the Danube Region and the interconnection between regions.”



    VISIT– A delegation led by the Minister for Romanians Abroad Natalia-Elena Intotero is currently on a three-day visit to Italy. According to a communiqué issued by the line ministry, the visit started in Bari, in the region of Puglia and will come to a close in Rome, in the Lazio region. The agenda of the visit includes talks with representatives of the local authorities, of the associative environment, trade unions and members of the Orthodox religious denomination. Data released by the Italian National Statistics Institute show that the Romanian community in Italy exceeds 1,100,000 people of a total of 5 million foreign citizens who are legally residing in Italy, being the largest foreign community in that country.



    DIPLOMACY – The Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Meleşcanu on Thursday started a two-day official visit to Morocco, at the invitation of his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita. According to a communiqué issued by the Romanian Foreign Ministry, the agenda of the visit includes talks with the Moroccan PM Saadeddine El-Othmani, the Speaker of the House of Councilors (the upper house of Parliament) Hakim Benchamach and with the Education Minister Saaid Amzazi. The visit also has an economic dimension, meant to boost bilateral trade exchanges and investments. Minister Melescanu will also have a meeting with the president of the Morocco-Romania Bilateral Chamber of Commerce, to be attended by local entrepreneurs as well. On Friday, Teodor Meleşcanu will meet with his counterpart Nasser Bourita. The two officials will sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Romanian and Moroccan Foreign Ministries and a Cooperation Agreement between the Romanian Diplomatic Institute and the Moroccan Academy of Diplomatic Studies.



    SEA SHIELD – “Sea Shield”, the biggest NATO military exercise on the south-eastern flank of the Alliance, is unfolding in Constanta, in south-eastern Romania, as of Thursday. Taking part in the exercise are 21 military ships, 10 fighters, a submarine and 2,300 military staff from several countries. According to a communiqué issued by the Chief of Staff of the Romanian Naval Forces, during the military training exercise the participants will practice NATO standard-fighting procedures against asymmetrical, submarine and maritime threats, according to a scenario based on a fictitious geopolitical situation. The Romanian Naval Forces are taking part in the exercise with two frigates, two guided-missile destroyers, and two maritime dredging ships. The Romanian Air Forces also contribute three MIG 21 Lancer fighters and the Ground Forces will contribute, for the first time, an infantry detachment.



    PRESS FREEDOM – On May 3rd, which is the World Press Freedom Day, the US Embassy in Bucharest congratulated the reporters in Romania who serve Romanians and the public interest. Romania has become a regional model as regards the rule of law, reads a communiqué issued by the embassy. Many of the improvements recorded are the result of the determination of some brave journalists whove had the courage to increase transparency, reveal irregularities and hold accountable both natural persons and institutions. On the other hand, the 2017-2018 Report on Press Freedom in Romania, made public on Thursday, reads that parts of the media have contributed significantly to the radicalization of the public discourse by means of political bias and by assimilating topics imposed by politicians. Fake news has contaminated the media landscape in Romania, helping build an alternative narrative, in which the actions of the politicians in power are deemed legitimate, while those carried out by their opponents are incriminated. Romania ranks 44th out of 180 in the world press freedom index.



    SPORT – On Thursday, the Romanian Alina Vuc won the silver medal in the 50 kg category at the European Wrestling Championship in Kaspiysk, Russia, after being defeated in the final by the Azeri Maria Stadnik. Alina Vuc won the third medal for the Romanian delegation, after the gold won by Mihai Mihut in the 63 kg category and the bronze medal won by Alin Alexuc – Ciurariu in the 130 category. In tennis, the Romanian Mihaela Buzarnescu (no.37 in the WTA rankings) has qualified for the semifinals of the WTA tournament in Prague, with 230,000 USD in prize money. She defeated Kristyna Pliskova 6-2, 6-3. The Romanian player has also qualified for the doubles final, alongside Lidia Morozova of Belarus, following the withdrawal of the Czech pair Barbora Stefkova / Barbora Strycova.Romanias table tennis womens team has failed to qualify for the semifinals of the World Championship in Halmstad, Sweden, as it was defeated by the Hong Kong team 3-nil.

    WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY – Some parts of the mass media have significantly contributed to the radicalisation of the public discourse by political bias and the assimilation of themes imposed by politicians, the fake news also contaminating the media landscape in Romania and contributing to the consolidation of alternative narratives, where the actions carried out by the ruling politicians are given legitimacy and those by the contesters are incriminated. The assessment is included in the 2017-2018 Report on Press Freedom in Romania, made public today. The document also shows that the ruling power, following the December 2016 elections, has imposed new leaderships at the Romanian Television Company, TVR, and the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation, SRR, the TV and radio licence fee being eliminated after several attempts by the politicians over the past few years, thus increasing the two public media institutions dependency on the political power. Celebrated every year on May 3, the World Press Freedom Day is marked by 100 events the world over. Romania is ranking 44th in a global classification of press freedom, ahead of such countries as the US or Italy and behind South Korea.



    CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA – The British firm Cambridge Analytica closed on Wednesday citing a loss of business. According to the BBC, “the closure of Cambridge Analytica will not stop a probe into the firm’s handling of millions of people’s data, investigators have said. The firm has been accused of acquiring data from up to 87 million Facebook profiles for use in political campaigns. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) said its investigation will still ‘pursue individuals and directors, the BBC reports



    TABLE TENNIS– Romanias womens table tennis team is today facing the team of Hong Kong, in the quarter finals of the World Championships held in Sweden. Romania has qualified in the quarter-finals after securing four wins and sustaining one defeat. In exchange, the national mens team has failed to qualify for the eighth finals of the World Championships, after losing to Hong Kong.

    Die rumänische Regierung hat am Dienstag abend die Eilverordnung über die Änderung des Strafgesetzbuches und der Strafproze‎ßordnung angenommen. Vorhin hatte die Generalstaatsanwaltschaft vom Obersten Gericht Rumäniens in einem Communique bekanntgegeben, der Entwurf der Eilverordnung zur Änderung des Strafgesetzbuches und der Strafproze‎ßordnung übersteige die Grenzen, die vom Verfassungsgericht festgelegt wurden. Laut der Generalstaatsanwaltschaft würde das Festlegen einer Schadensgrenze für Amtsmi‎ßbrauch die Amtsträger dazu ermuntern, absichtlich und wiederholt Amtsmi‎ßbrauch zu verüben. Ihrerseits warnte die Nationale Antikorruptionsbehörde, dass eine verhüllte Entkriminalisierung des Amtsmi‎ßbrauchs die bereits für solche Taten inkriminierten oder sogar verurteilten Täter begünstigen würde.



    Die neuen Ma‎ßnahmen des Steuergesetzbuches treten ab 1. Februar in Kraft. Besagte Änderungen wurden durch eine Eilverordnung der rumänischen Regierung angenommen. Dadurch werden 102 Steuern und Gebühre gestrichen, darunter die Radio- und Fernsehgebühr und die Kfz-Umweltgebühr. Ebenfalls ab Februar wird in Rumänien der Mindestlohn erhöht; infolgedessen werden etwa 1,6 Millionen Rumänen höhere Löhne erhalten. Staatsbedienstete werden eine 20% Gehaltserhöhnung bekommen. Weitere Ma‎ßnahmen, die am 1. Februar in Kraft treten sind die Abschaffung der Obergrenzen für soziale Abgaben und Krankenversicherungsbeiträge, die Erhöhung der Fonds für kleine Unternehmen und die Abschaffung der Steuer bei Immobilienverkäufe unter 100.000 Euro.



    Das Oberste Gericht in Bukarest hat am Dienstag den national-liberalen Abgeordneten Ludovic Orban in einem Korruptionsstrafverfahren unschuldig gesprochen. Das Urteil ist nicht endgültig. Gegen den ehemaligen Vizevorsitzenden der National-Liberalen Partei waren Ermittlungen der Antikorruptionsbehörde DNA wegen Korruption gelaufen. Orban soll Geld von einem Geschäftsmann verlangt haben um den Wahlkampf bei den Lokalwahlen 2016 zu finanzieren. Die Nationale Antikorruptionsbehörde forderte eine Haftstrafe, da Victor Orban mit Absicht agiert und seinen politischen Einfluss ausgenutzt haben soll. Der national-liberale Abgeordnete erklärte sich für unschuldig. Der Kassationshof hat ebenfalls am Dienstag den Gerichtstermin im Verfahren gegen Liviu Dragnea verschoben. Der Vorsitzende der mitregierenden Sozialdemokratischen Partei wird der Anstiftung zum Amtsmi‎ßbrauch angeklagt. Laut der Nationalen Antikorruptionsbehörde, habe Dragnea die Einstellung zweier Mitglieder seiner Partei am Generalamt für Sozialhilfe und Kinderschutz im südrumänischen Teleorman gefordert. Voriges Jahr war der Sozialdemokrat wegen Wahlbetrugs beim 2012 Referendum zur Absetzung des ehemaligen Staatsches Traian Basescu zu zwei Jahren Haft auf Bewährung verurteilt worden.



    Irland unterstützt Rumänien und Bulgarien bei ihren Bemühungen um den Schengen-Beitritt und hofft auf das Finden von Lösungen zum Erreichen dieses Ziels. Dies erklärte am Dienstag in Bukarest der irische Minister für europäische Angelegenheiten, Dara Murphy. Bei seinem Bukarestbesuch führte Dara Murphy Gespräche mit der rumänischen delegierten Ministerin für europäische Angelegenheiten, Ana Birchall, über die rumänische Gemeinde in Irland, über die Herausforderungen, die für die Europäische Union durch den Brexit entstehen, und über Migration. In Irland leben etwa 50.000 Rumänen, die sich in der Gesellschaft gut integriert haben, Murphy. Zum Thema Brexit sagte Ana Birchall, dass der rumänische Staat die Lage der in Gro‎ßbritannien lebenden Rumänen mit besonderer Aufmerksamkeit beobachtet, egal wie die Brexit-Verhandlungen ausgehen. Was die Migration angeht, so bemüht sich Rumänien, die Sicherheit an den Au‎ßengrenzen der Europäischen Union zu bewahren, sagte noch die rumänische delegierte Ministerin für europäische Angelegenheiten.



    Die rumänische Fregatte Regele Ferdinand (König Ferdinand) leitet die Gro‎ßmanöver bei der NATO-Übung Sea Shield, die im Schwarzmeer stattfindet. An der multinationalen NATO-Übung beteiligen sich rund 2800 Seeleute der NATO-Mitgliedstaaten. Die NATO plant für 2017 50 gro‎ßangelegte Seemanöver, Sea Shield gilt als das erste. Daran beteligen sich 16 Schiffe, ein U-Boot und 10 Flugzeuge. Der Vizeadmiral Clive Johnstone, Leiter des Marinekommando der NATO befindet sich aus diesem Anlass in Rumänien. Aus London kam allerdings die Meldung, dass eines der modernsten Kriegsschiffe Gro‎ßbritanniens sich an der ersten Mission der Königlichen Marine im Schwarzen Meer nach dem Kalten Krieg beteiligen wird. Seit der Annexion der Halbinsel Krim durch Russland im März 2014 werden jedes dritte Jahr Gro‎ßmanöver der NATO im Schwarzen Meer durchgeführt.



    Das Vertrauen in den Euroraum habe Monat Januar den niedrigsten Stand in den letzten sechs Jahren erreicht, teilt die Europäische Kommission laut der Finanzagentur Bloomberg mit. Ein ensprechender Index für das Missvertrauen der Verbraucher und Entscheidungsträger im Euroraum stieg dementsprechden auf 108,2. Der Wert überschreitet somit alle Erwartungen der Wirtschaftsexperten. Dezember 2016 lag der Index bei 107,8. Laut dem besagten Bericht habe sich das Vertrauen in die Qualität und Zuverlässigkeit der Dienstleistungen seit Januar verbessert, während das Vertrauen in Baubereich und Einzelhandel hingegen deutlich gesunken sei. Laut Wirtschaftsexperten sei die Wirtschaft des Euroraums in den letzten Monaten des Vorjahres deutlich gewachsen. Im vierten Jahresquartal sei sie um 0,5% gegenüber dem vorherigen Zeitraum gewachsen, als sie einen Aufschwung von 0,3% verzeichnet hatte.

    Aiguilleurs du ciel – Poursuite des négociations, ce vendredi, entre les représentants du Syndicat de ROMATSA, l’Administration Roumaine du Trafic Aérien – et la direction de la compagnie, ayant pour médiateur le nouveau ministre des Transports, Iulian Matache. Jeudi les négociations n’avaient pas abouti à un résultat concret. Le patronat et les syndicats doivent présenter avant le 21 juillet des solutions à toutes les revendications des aiguilleurs du ciel. La plus importante vise l’âge de la retraite des contrôleurs aériens qui demandent également la conclusion d’une convention collective ainsi que la protection des salariés du domaine et le renforcement de la sécurité du trafic aérien. Rappelons-le, les aiguilleurs du ciel ont fait une grève d’avertissement de deux heures mercredi, une situation sans précédent en Roumanie. Les pertes en ont été estimées à plus de 250.000 euros.

    Exercice – 2000 militaires d’Ukraine et de 7 pays membres de l’OTAN, à savoir la Roumanie, la Bulgarie, la Grèce, les Pays-Bas, le Portugal, la Turquie et les Etats – Unis seront déployés en mer Noire du 20 au 24 juillet, dans le cadre de l’exercice multinational Sea Shield 15 ciblé sur la lutte anti-sous-marine. Y participent 8 bâtiments de guerre et 3 avions roumains, ainsi qu’un sous – marin, 5 aéronefs et 6 navires militaires étrangers. 5 de ces navires arriveront ce vendredi dans le port de Constanta. Sea Shield 15 est un exercice de lutte contre les sous-marins, organisé par les Forces navales roumaines. Son objectif est de développer la coopération dans le domaine de la défense avec des structures similaires des Etats membres et partenaires de l’OTAN et de renforcer les procédures conjointes de lutte.

    Tennis – Feu vert, vendredi, dans la station de Mamaia, sur le littoral roumain de la mer Noire, des matchs entre la Roumanie et la Slovaquie comptant pour le second tour du Premier Groupe de la Zone Europe-Afrique de la Coupe Davis.     Foot – Dans la phase préliminaire de la Ligue Europa, l’équipe roumaine Astra Giurgiu a gagné jeudi le match contre les Ecossais d’Inverness CT, score 1 but à 0, alors que l’équipe roumaine FC Botosani a été vaincue par les Polonais de Legia Varsovie. La troisième équipe roumaine de la Ligue Europa, ASA Tg Mures, est automatiquement qualifiée au troisième tour. Rappelons-le, mardi la championne de Roumanie, Steaua Bucarest, a vaincu les Slovaques d’As Trencin sur le score de 2 buts à 0, dans le match aller du deuxième tour préliminaire de la Ligue des Champions. Les matchs retour sont prévus la semaine prochaine.
