Sportevents: Olympische Winterspiele der Jugend, Handball (EHF-Cup), Tennis

Die rumänische Athletin Georgeta Popescu hat bei den Olympischen Jugend-Winterspielen in Lausanne Gold im Einerbob geholt. Popescus Zeit in den beiden Runden des Wettkampfes betrug 2 Minuten, 26 Sekunden und 84 Hundertstel. Zweite wurde die Slowakin Viktoria Cernanska, die Deutsche Celine Harms beendete das Rennen auf dem dritten Platz. Eine weitere Athletin aus Rumänien, Antonia Sarbu, belegte im selben Wettkampf den 13. Platz. Popescus Erfolg ist die zweite Medaille der rumänische Delegation nach der Bronzemedaille von Ramona Ionel in der Staffel des Eisschnelllaufs am Mittwoch.

Als nächstes Handball und die Spiele im EHF-Cup: Die rumänische Damenmannschaft von Măgura Heltau kam im Auswärtsspiel gegen die dänische Mannschaft Kobenhavn Handball mit 22:33 unter die Räder. Heltau hat somit alle Gruppenspiele des Wettbewerbs verloren. In der gleichen Gruppe endete das Spiel der Ungarinnen von Siofok gegen die Kroatinnen von Podravka Koprivnica mit einem 30:30-Unentschieden.

Siofok steht mit fünf Punkten an erster Stelle der Gruppenwertung, gefolgt von Koprivnica ebenfalls mit fünf, Kopenhagen mit zwei und Heltau noch ohne Punkte. Die rumänische Mannschaft spielt am 26. Januar erneut gegen Kopenhagen, dem Termin an dem auch das Rückspiel Podravka gegen Siofok stattfindet.

In der Gruppe C hat Gloria Bistrita-Nasaud im Auswärtsspiel gegen eine weitere dänische Mannschaft Odense Handbold mit 19:25 verloren. Das ungarische Team ERD setzte sich mit 29:24 gegen das polnische Team MKS Lublin durch. Odense steht mit 6 Punkten an erster Stelle der Rangliste, gefolgt von ERD mit 3, Bistrita mit 2 und MKS mit einem Punkt. Gloria wird am 26. Januar in einem Heimspiel gegen Odense antreten, während die Polinnen aus Lublin in der eigenen Halle gegen die Ungarinnen von ERD spielen werden.

Die rumänische Tennisspielerin Sorana Cîrstea hat sich nach einem 6:2, 7:6-Sieg gegen die tschechische Herausforderin Barbora Strycova für die zweite Runde der Australian Open qualifiziert. Nächster Gegner von Cîrstea beim ersten Grand-Slam-Turnier des Jahres ist die junge US-Amerikanerin Cori Gauff, die nach einem 7:6, 6:3-Sieg gegen Venus Williams vorrückte.

Drei weitere Rumäninnen stehen im Hauptfeld des Wettbewerbs: Simona Halep, die gegen Jennifer Brady aus den USA antreten wird, Irina Begu, die gegen Kiki Bertens aus den Niederlanden spielt und Monica Niculescu, die gegen Alize Cornet aus Frankreich antritt.

HOLOCAUST – The Romanian
president Klaus Iohannis will be in Israel from Tuesday to Thursday, the
president’s office has announced. He will make this trip in order to attend the
5th forum of world leaders
dedicated to the remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust and the 75th
anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. The
forum, entitled Remembering the Holocaust, Fighting Anti-Semitism,
will take place on the 23rd of January in Jerusalem. The
participation of the Romanian president in this international forum is part of
the efforts made by the Romanian state to consolidate education about the
Holocaust, preserve the memory of the Holocaust, combat anti-Semitism, racism
and xenophobia and promote European values, tolerance and respect for the
fundamental rights and liberties. On the sidelines of the forum, president
Iohannis will also have a meeting with his Israeli counterpart Reuven Rivlin.

AID – The Romanian
government has approved aid worth 41 million euros, to rescue the National Air
Transport Company Tarom. Without the aid, Tarom would no longer be able to
finance its activity as of March. According to the head of the prime minister’s
office Ionel Danca, this is the first step and can take the form of
restructuring aid, following the notification of the European Commission and
the latter’s approval of the aid. Tarom estimates losses of around 36 million
euros for 2019. The Romanian state-owned airliner has not had profit since
2007.

AIRPORT – The Avram Iancu
International Airport in Cluj has been authorized to introduce pets from third
countries for non-commercial purpose, thus becoming the first regional airport
to provide this facility to its passengers. Pets could only be introduced in
Romania via the Henri Coanda International Airport in Bucharest.

WHO -
The World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday warned that the lack of new
antibiotics threatens global efforts to contain drug-resistant infections,
which kill tens of thousands of people every year, France Press reports. Never
has the threat of antimicrobial resistance been more immediate and the need for
solutions more urgent, says Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General
of WHO. Numerous initiatives are underway to reduce resistance, but we also
need countries and the pharmaceutical industry to step up and contribute with
sustainable funding and innovative new medicines. The WHO believes the world
is headed to an era where common infections could start killing again. Some
33,000 people die every year in Europe and 35,000 in the United States to
drug-resistant infections, one of the greatest health challenges yet
identified, WHO officials say. Bacteria develop resistance when patients misuse
antibiotics or don’t finish their treatment, thus becoming immune to drugs.

BREXIT -
The UK will not automatically kick out EU citizens who have not obtained a stay
permit, the European Parliament’s coordinator for Brexit, Guy Verhofstadt said.
The EU official said that those who have not filed for resident status by the
end of June 2021 will be given a six-month grace period to solve their status.
The information was confirmed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s spokesman. Under
the current post-Brexit legal framework, EU citizens who have an attested stay
of at least 5 years in the UK are granted permanent resident status. The others
can file for temporary resident status, which can be upgraded to permanent at
the end of 5 years spent in the UK.

TENNIS -
Romanian tennis player Monica Niculescu, world no. 128, has qualified for the
main draw of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year.
She defeated the Swiss player Stefanie Voegele on Friday in three sets, in the
last qualifying round. Three Romanian players go straight into the main draw in
the women’s singles: world no. 4 Simona Halep, world no. 74 Sorana Cirstea, and
world no. 105 Irina Begu. In the opening round, Halep will face world no. 49
Jennifer Brady of the US, Cirstea will face world no. 33 Barbora Strycova of
the Czech Republic and Begu will face world no. 10 Kiki Bertens of the
Netherlands.

Die Interessen der rumänischen Bürger sind von der Situation im Irak und im Nahen Osten bisher nicht berührt worden, erklärte der rumänische Außenminister Bogdan Aurescu. Er sagte auch, dass es eine gute Koordination zwischen Rumänien und seinen EU- und NATO-Verbündeten gebe, und betonte, dass das Ministerium die Situation der Rumänen in der Region überwache. Die rumänischen Verteidigungs- und Außenminister Nicolae Ciuca und Bogdan Aurescu haben in einer gemeinsamen Sitzung der parlamentarischen Ausschüsse für Verteidigung, öffentliche Ordnung und nationale Sicherheit und Außenpolitik über die Lage im Nahen Osten gesprochen. Der russische Premierminister Dmitri Medwedew hat am Mittwoch den Rücktritt seines Kabinetts angekündigt, damit Präsident Wladimir Putin die von ihm gewünschten Verfassungsänderungen vornehmen kann. Medwedew machte die Überraschungsankündigung im Staatsfernsehen kurz nach der jährlichen Rede des Staatsoberhauptes über den Staat. Der Kremlführer hat ein Referendum zur Überarbeitung der Verfassung vorgeschlagen, um die Befugnisse des Parlaments zu stärken. Putin erklärte, er wolle der Staatsduma die Ernennung des Premierministers, des stellvertretenden Premierministers und der Mitglieder der Exekutive zuerkennen und betonte, dass der Präsident verpflichtet sein werde, die vom Gesetzgeber ernannten Personen zu ernennen. Putin betonte jedoch, dass er ein starkes Präsidentensystem aufrechterhalten wolle und gab bekannt, dass Medwedew stellvertretender Vorsitzender des russischen Sicherheitsrates unter der Leitung des Staatsoberhauptes sein werde.

In Rumänien, der Republik Moldau und in der Diaspora finden Veranstaltungen zum nationalen Kulturtag Rumäniens und zur Geburt des großen rumänischen Dichters Mihai Eminescu statt. Zum ersten Mal können Menschen aus verschiedenen Teilen des Landes gleichzeitig an kulturellen Veranstaltungen teilnehmen. Der 15. Januar, der Geburtstag von Mihai Eminescu, wurde durch ein 2010 von der Abgeordnetenkammer verabschiedetes Gesetz zum nationalen Kulturtag.

Am Donnerstag übernehmen die rumänischen Seestreitkräfte offiziell das Kommando der Ständigen NATO-Gruppe für Minenabwehrmaßnahmen, in der sich Militärschiffe aus Bulgarien, Deutschland, Italien, Spanien und der Türkei zusammengeschlossen haben. Valentin Catalin Vlad wird von Januar bis Juni der Kommandant der Gruppe sein, und das Kommandoschiff ist ‘Vizeadmiral Constantin Balescu’. Neben der 64 ständigen Besatzung werden 14 rumänische und drei ausländische Mitarbeiter an Bord des Schiffes sein. Der Stabschef wird ein spanischer Offizier sein. Die Gruppe wird im Schwarzen Meer und im Mittelmeer operieren, um die schnelle Reaktionsfähigkeit auf NATO-Ebene sicherzustellen.

Eine Resolution mit dem Standpunkt des Europäischen Parlaments zur Finanzierung des Europäischen Klimapakts ist am Mittwoch verabschiedet worden. Die Europaabgeordneten unterstützen die Zusage der Kommission, die EU zu einer gesünderen, nachhaltigeren, gerechten und wohlhabenden Gesellschaft ohne Treibhausgasemissionen zu machen, und fordern den notwendigen Übergang zu einer neutraleren Gesellschaft bis 2050. Die Europaabgeordneten meinen, dass der von der Europäischen Kommission vorgeschlagene Pakt im Mittelpunkt der europäischen Strategie für ein neues nachhaltiges Wachstum stehen sollte, die Grenzen des Planeten zu respektieren und wirtschaftliche Möglichkeiten zu schaffen, um Investitionen anzuregen und qualitativ hochwertige Arbeitsplätze zu schaffen. Andererseits weist das Europaparlament darauf hin, dass erhebliche öffentliche und private Investitionen mobilisiert werden müssen, damit die Union die Ziele des Grünen Pakts erreicht. Der EU-Gesetzgeber hat bereits gesagt, dass die Union die Emissionen bis 2030 um 55% senken muss, um die Klimaneutralität bis 2050 zu erreichen, und dass dringend eine Einigung über den langfristigen Haushalt für 2021-2027 erforderlich ist, um dies zu unterstützen somit die Umsetzung von Politiken in diesem Bereich.

Der Präsident des Iran Hassan Rouhani hat am Mittwoch zu einer grundlegenden Änderung der Art und Weise, wie sein Land regiert wird, aufgerufen und implizit zugegeben, dass die Tragödie der letzten Woche, als ein ukrainisches Flugzeug von iranischen Raketen getroffen wurde, eine Krise des Vertrauens in die Behörden ausgelöst hat. Rouhani hat auch von der Notwendigkeit einer nationalen Versöhnung gesprochen, nachdem die Verantwortlichen die Schuld an der Tragödie nicht auf sich nehmen konnten. Seiner Meinung nach sollten die für den 21. Februar geplanten Parlamentswahlen der erste Schritt sein. Wir erinnern daran, dass die ukrainische Boeing 737 kurz nach dem Start vom Flughafen Teheran abstürzte und alle 176 Menschen an Bord, vor allem iranische und kanadische Staatsbürger, tötete. Nach zwei Tagen offiziellen Leugnens gab die iranische Armee ihre Schuld zu und sagte, das Flugzeug sei versehentlich von einer Rakete abgeschossen worden.

Vier rumänische Tennisspielerinnen, Irina Bara, Laura Paar, Patricia Tig und Elena-Gabriela Ruse spielen in Melbourne in der ersten Runde der Hauptfeldqualifikation für die Australian Open, dem ersten Grand-Slam-Turnier des Jahres, das vom 20. Januar bis zum 2. Februar stattfindet. Drei weitere rumänische Spielerinnen, Simona Halep, Sorana Cirstea und Irina Begu spielen direkt im Hauptfeld. întrecută dar de australianca Ashley Barty şi de sportiva cehă Karolina
Pliskova. Este de menţionat
faptul că românca s-a clasat a doua în ierarhia câştigurilor pe anul 2019, cu
6.962.442 de dolari, în principal graţie victoriei de la Wimbledon. În 2020,
primul turneu la care va participa Simona este cel de la Adelaide, din
Australia, care debutează luni. Va urma Openul
Australiei.

Pentru anul acesta, Simona Halep a anunţat
că va avea, drept obiectiv principal, obţinerea unei medalii la Jocurile
Olimpice. Întregul său
program competiţional se va axa pe atingerea vârfului de formă la întrecerea
din Japonia, unde ea va lua parte atât în întrecerile de simplu, cât şi în cele
de dublu şi dublu mixt. În aceste condiţii, numărul 3 mondial nu va evolua
pentru echipa României în Fed Cup. Prima partidă a tricolorelor în această
competiţie va avea loc pe 7 şi 8 februarie, în compania Rusiei, şi va fi
găzduită de Sala Polivalentă din Cluj, cea mai mare arenă de acest fel din
România. Acolo au mai avut loc, până acum, alte patru întâlniri importante ale
echipei de Fed Cup a României, respectiv în 2016, cu Cehia și Germania, și în
2018, cu Canada și Elveția.

Dacă
învinge Rusia, România se va număra printre cele 12 echipe care își vor disputa
titlul de campioană a anului 2020. Lupta se va duce în cadrul unui turneu final
care va avea loc în perioada 14 – 19
aprilie 2020, la Budapesta. Vă amintim că în 2019 jucătoarele tricolore au
ajuns până în semifinale. Ele au ratat calificarea în ultimul act în faţa
Franţei, la Rouen, învinse cu 2 la 3. Atunci, punctele
României au fost realizate de Simona Halep.

Săptămâna sportivă

România a cucerit
două medalii la Campionatele Europene de tir pe distanţa de 10 metri,
desfăşurate zilele trecute la Osijek, în Croaţia. Laura Coman a câştigat
medalia de aur în proba de puşcă aer comprimat, 10 metri, după două focuri de
baraj. Ea a fost urmată de elveţianca Nina Christen şi de austriaca Franziska
Peer. O altă româncă, Roxana Sidi, a terminat pe locul 6. Echipa feminină,
care, în afara Laurei Coman şi a Roxanei Sidi, a mai avut-o în componenţă pe
Eliza Molnar, a terminat pe locul 3 în proba de puşcă aer comprimat 10 m,
învingând, în finala mică, Austria. Aurul a revenit Rusiei, învingătoare în
finala cu Italia.

Jucătoarea română
de tenis Simona Halep, numărul trei mondial, s-a calificat cu dificultate în
optimile de finală ale turneului WTA de la Miami, dotat cu premii totale de peste
9 milioane de dolari. Ea a întrecut-o pe slovena Polona Hercog cu 5-7, 7-6, 6-2.
In optimi, Simona o va înfrunta pe jucătoarea americană Venus Williams, care a
trecut în turul anterior de rusoaica Daria Kasatkina, cu 6-3, 6-1. Halep şi
Venus sunt la egalitate în meciurile directe, 3-3, dar românca le-a câştigat pe
ultimele trei. Ultimul duel a fost anul acesta, la Australian Open, în turul al
treilea, încheiat cu 6-2, 6-3 pentru Halep.

Tot la Miami,
perechea formată din jucătoarea română de tenis Raluca Olaru şi croata Darija
Jurak s-a calificat în sferturile de finală ale probei de dublu. Olaru şi Jurak
au trecut 7-5, 6-3 de cuplul format de spaniola Lara Arruabarrena şi britanica
Heather Watson. În sferturi, Raluca şi partenera sa croată le vor întâlni pe
Victoria Azarenka, din Belarus, şi Ashleigh Barty, din Australia, care au

Australian Open: Achtelfinal-Aus für Halep

Es war knapp, doch am Ende hat es wieder einmal nicht gereicht. Simona Halep hat bei den Australian Open die Achtelfinal-Begegnung mit Serena Williams verloren. Am Ende hieß es 6:1, 4:6 und 6:4 aus Sicht der Amerikanerin. Damit muss die Weltranglistenerste die Heimreise nach Rumänien antreten, doch sie kann damit zufrieden sein, in einem erstklassigen Match alles gegeben zu haben.

Und nicht nur das: sie zwang ihre namhafte Gegnerin, ihr bestes Tennis zu spielen, um den Sieg zu erlangen. Einziger Wermutstropfen: Halep vergab im dritten Satz beim Stande von 3:2 gleich drei Break-Chancen. Doch hier der genauere Spielverlauf:

Im ersten Satz konnte Williams ihren Spielplan, wie so oft bei großen Turneen gesehen, mit klinischer Präzision umsetzen. Simona konnte dem so gut wie nichts entgegensetzen. Trotz eines Breaks zu Null gleich zu Beginn der Partie, hatte die Rumänin große Schwierigkeiten mit dem zweiten Aufschlag. Mit diesem gewann sie nicht einmal einen Punkt. Die Amerikanerin hatte hingegen eine Erfolgsquote von 77% bei ihrem ersten Aufschlag – wenn das Match bis zum 3:1 für Williams noch relativ ausgeglichen schien, so änderte die vielfache Grand-Slam-Siegerin das in den folgenden drei Spielen. Diese konnte sie mühelos gewinnen. Der erste Satz ging also nach nur 20 Minuten mit 6:1 an sie.

Im zweiten Satz schien nach einem erneuten Breakgewinn zum 2:1 fast alles zugunsten von Williams gelaufen zu sein. Eine wuchtige Vorhand mit 132 kmh sicherte ihr diesen Vorsprung. Doch die Weltranglistenerste aus Rumänien ist inzwischen gewappnet für Krisensituationen. Gleich im anschließenden Spiel holte sie sich das Break zurück und übernahm anschließend mit einem Aufschlagsspiel zu Null die Führung. Ab jetzt wusste Halep, wie sie ihren eigenen Aufschlag besser schützen kann und verbesserte gleichzeitig die Returns. Darüber hinaus drängte sie beim Stande von 5:4 auf den Ausgleich nach Sätzen – mit einem sehenswerten Rückhand-Winner verschaffte sie sich den ersten Satzball. Kurze Zeit später vergab Serena einen leichten Ball und schon stand es 1:1. Der dritte Satz sollte die Entscheidung herbeiführen.

Der Durchgang begann mit einem abgewehrten Breakball für Simona und ein schwer erkämpftes Spiel bei eigenem Aufschlag. Die Taktik für die 27-Jährige aus Constanta wurde deutlich: Immer öfter versuchte, sie Serena von einer Ecke in die andere zu jagen. Dabei setze sie auf präzisere Schläge und Bälle gegen den Lauf ihrer starken Gegnerin. Auch brachte sie den eigenen Aufschlag lockerer durch, einige Male sogar zu Null. Beim Stande von 3:2 aus ihrer Sicht, verschaffte sich Halep drei Breakchancen. Allerdings konnte sich Williams mit ihrem Aufschlag aus dem Engpass befreien. Lediglich bei einem der Ballwechsel hatte die Rumänin eine Chance, die sie mit einem Vorhand-Fehler vergab. Und das sollte sie teuer kosten:

Gleich im Anschluss machte die Amerikanerin ihr erstes Break – kleine Unsicherheiten beim ersten Aufschlag Haleps nutzte sie gnadenlos aus. Und dieses Break erwies sich am Ende als ausreichend – Serena brachte noch zwei Aufschlagsspiele durch und entschied das Match für sich.

Es sei ein sehr intensives Match gewesen, auf sehr hohem Niveau, sagte Williams hinterher. Sie habe ihre Leistung steigern müssen, da sie gegen die Weltranglistenerste, “eine sehr gute Spielerin, nur so hätte bestehen können. Halep hatte am Ende 24 direkte Winner und 12 unerzwungene Fehler auf ihrem Konto. Williams schloss die Partie mit 44 Winern und 31 Fehlern ab. Im Viertelfinale trifft Serena auf die Tschechin Karolina Pliskova.

Echipa feminină de spadă a clubului Steaua Bucureşti a ocupat locul al treilea la Cupa Europei, competiţie desfăşurată sâmbătă în localitatea italiană Marcianise. Din echipă au facut parte Ana-Maria Popescu, Alexandra Predescu, Greta Vereş şi Raluca Sbârcia, antrenate de Cornel Milan. Fetele au câştigat cele două meciuri din grupă, cu Plymouth, din Anglia, şi cu echipa italiană Caserta. Au dispus, apoi, în sferturile de finală, de Club Esgrima Lazaro Cardenas, din Spania, dau au fost învinse, în semifinale, de Fiamme Oro, din Italia. Ea s-a retras şi din proba de simplu, unde era calificată în optimile de finală ale competiţiei şi unde ar fi trebuit să o întâlnească pe chinezoaica Shiwen Liu.

Tel Aviv: Die rumänische Premierin Viorica Dăncilă ist am Freitag mit dem israelischen Premier Benjamin Netanyahu zu Gesprächen zusammengekommen. Die beiden haben die ausgezeichneten bilateralen Beziehungen begrüßt und sich auf die Organisierung einer gemeinsamen Sitzung der beiden Regierungen in der ersten Jahreshälfte geeinigt. Im Anschluss betonte die Premierin Dancila das Interesse Rumäniens für die Konsolidierung und die Verstärkung der strategischen Kooperation in den Bereichen Cyber-und Energiesicherheit, Medizin, Forschung und Innovation. Dancila und Netanjahu haben sich im Anschluss über den Stand der Verhandlungen zum rumänisch-israelischen Abkommen im Bereich der neuen Technologien zufrieden gezeigt.

Bukarest: Am Donnerstag und Freitag hat in Bukarest ein Treffen der Direktoren für Politik in den Außenministerien der EU-Staaten stattgefunden. Angegangen wurden bedeutende Themen bezüglich der Sicherheit und der Verteidigung des EU, darunter die Zusammenarbeit zwischen der EU und der NATO im Rahmen der gemeinsamen Übungen, die Zukunft der europäischen Verteidigung, die Entwicklungen und die Pespektiven der dauerhaften strukturierten Kooperation. Laut einer Mitteilung des Verteidigungsministerium war das Treffen ein guter Anlass für die Vorbereitung des informellen Treffens der EU-Verteidigungsminister vom 30. und 31. Januar in Bukarest.

Berlin: Der rumänische Präsident Klaus Iohannis wird auf Einladung der deutschen Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel und des französischen Präsidenten Emmanuel Macron am Dienstag in Aachen an der Feier zur Unterzeichnung des deutsch-französischen Kooperations- und Integrationsabkommens teilnehmen. Bei dieser Gelegenheit wird Präsident Iohannis als Präsident des Landes, das die amtierende EU-Ratspräsidentschaft innehat, eine Rede halten. An der Feier sollen auch der Präsident des Europäischen Rates Donald Tusk und der EU-Kommissionschef Jean-Claude Juncker teilnehmen. Das bilaterale Abkommen von Aachen beruht politisch und rechtlich auf dem deutsch-französischen Elysee-Vertrag von 1963, der die Grundlage für eine historische Aussöhnung zwischen Deutschland und Frankreich bildet. Der Aachener Vertrag zielt darauf ab, die Beziehungen zwischen den beiden Staaten an die Herausforderungen des 21. Jahrhunderts anzupassen und dabei den Zusammenhalt der Maßnahmen beider Länder auf europäischer Ebene hervorheben.

Berlin: Rumänische Lebensmittelprodukte werden am Freitag auf einer Berliner Messe mit dem Titel Grüne Woche 2019“ präsentiert. Nach Angaben des rumänischen Landwirtschaftsministers Petre Daea, der an der Veranstaltung teilnimmt, nehmen mehrere rumänische Hersteller von traditionellen Produkten an der Messe teil. Zu den traditionellen Lebensmitteln, die ausgestellt werden sollen, gehören die Pflaumenkonfitüre Topoloveni, der geräucherte Donauhering, die Plescoi-Würstchen und die Dobrogea-Torte. Am Rande der Messe wird der rumänische Landwirtschaftsminister mit seinen Amtskollegen aus anderen Mitgliedstaaten und Vertretern von Landwirtschaftsverbänden in der EU zu Gesprächen zusammenkommen. Im vergangenen Jahr lag die Besucherzahl der internationalen Messe bei 400.000.

Belgrad: Der russische Präsident Wladimir Putin hat am Donnerstag Belgrad besucht, wo er für die Stabilität des Balkans plädierte, der seiner Ansicht nach eine vom Westen bedrohte Region ist. Er erinnerte daran, dass die Russische Föderation einer der größten Investoren in der serbischen Wirtschaft sei. Energie sei ein Schlüsselbereich der bilateralen Zusammenarbeit. Neben historischen, religiösen und kulturellen Bindungen danken die Serben den Russen für die Unterstützung, die sie in Bezug auf die Unabhängigkeit des Kosovo gewährt haben. Zwanzig Jahre nach dem Krieg zwischen den Serben und den separatistischen Kosovo-Albanern erkennt Moskau die Provinz Kosovo immer noch nicht an. Serbien ist zwar ein Kandidat für einen EU-Beitritt, weigert sich jedoch, die Sanktionen des EU-Blocks gegen Russland zu unterstützen, die nach der Annexion der ukrainischen Halbinsel Krim durch Russland verhängt wurden.

Bukarest: Für das Jahr 2018 hat der Autobauer Dacia mit einem Gesamtabsatz auf dem nationalen und internationalen Markt von mehr als 700 Tausend Autos, also 7% mehr als im Jahr 2017, die beste kommerzielle Leistung in seiner Geschichte. Die Verkaufszahlen auf dem externen Markt stiegen um 5,5% und erreichten mehr als 646 Tausend Fahrzeuge. Das Ergebnis gilt somit als die beste in Europa verzeichnete Leistung. 1999 wurden die rumänische Marke Dacia und die Autofabrik Mioveni von der französischen Unternehmensgruppe Renault übernommen. Die Autos Dacia werden in 44 Ländern auf 4 Kontinenten verkauft.

Aachen — The Romanian President Klaus Iohannis will participate on Tuesday in Aachen, Germany, in the ceremony for the signing of the French-German Cooperation and Integration Treaty upon the invitation of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and of the French President Emmanuel Macron. On this occasion, President Iohannis, in his capacity as president of the country holding the incumbent presidency of the Council of the EU, will deliver a speech. The ceremony will also be attended by the president of the European Council Donald Tusk and the president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker. The Aachen bilateral treaty is based, from a political and juridical point of view, on the Elysee French-German Treaty of 1963 that set the basis for a historic reconciliation between Germany and France. The Aachen treaty will focus on adjusting the relations between the two states to the challenges of the 21st century, laying emphasis on the cohesion of the two countries’ action at European level.

Berlin fair — Romanian agri-food products will be displayed Friday at a Berlin fair called ‘2019 Green Week’. According to Romanian agriculture minister Petre Daea who is attending the event, several Romanian producers of traditional products are participating in the fair. Some of the traditional products to be displayed are the Topoloveni plum jam, the smoked Danube herring, the Plescoi sausages and the Dobrogea pie. On the sidelines of the fair, the Romanian agriculture minister will meet with his counterparts from other member states, German officials and representatives of farming associations in the EU. The Berlin Fair will come to an end next Sunday. Last year more than 400 thousand people visited the fair.

Dacia — In 2018 Dacia Company reported the best commercial performance in its history with total sales on the domestic and international market standing at more than 700 thousand cars, 7% more than the level reported in 2017. According to a Dacia communiqué, the Romanian brand has practically doubled its sales in only 7 years. Dacia sales on external markets have risen by 5.5% reaching more than 646 thousand cars, this being one of the best performances registered in Europe. In 1999, Dacia brand and Mioveni factory were taken over by the French group Renault. Dacia models are sold in 44 countries on 4 continents.

London — The British PM Theresa May continues Friday consultations with political parties and Monday she is going to present her new plan that, on January 29, will be debated and voted on. Talks are being held in the aftermath of the heated disputes of the past days in the British Parliament, which rejected the Brexit agreement. However, Mrs. May’s government has survived a no-confidence vote tabled by the Labor Party. PM May is trying to reach a consensus, but the leader of the opposition Labor Party, Jeremy Corbin, refuses to take part in the negotiations waiting for the government to totally eliminate the possibility of Brexit without a deal. In reply, Theresa May said the government could not provide such guarantees because that did not lie with the government. She added that such a scenario could be avoided in two ways: either a similar agreement with that already concluded with the EU is voted on or article 50 is revoked. But the government is not going to do that because they want to respect the results of the 2016 referendum.

Belgrade — The Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday visited Belgrade where he pleaded for the stability of the Balkans, which, in his opinion, is a region threatened by the West. He reminded that the Russian Federation was one of the biggest investors in the Serbian economy, energy being a key-domain of bilateral cooperation. Besides historical, religious and cultural ties, Serbs are grateful to Russians for the supported granted in relation to Kosovo’s independence. 20 years on since the war between the Serbs and the separatist Kosovo Albanians, Moscow still does not recognize the province of Kosovo. Moreover, Serbia, although a candidate for EU accession, refuses to back the sanctions of the EU bloc against Russia, which were imposed after Russia annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea.

Tennis — The Romanian pair Irina Maria Bara/Monica Niculescu qualified on Friday in Melbourne to the eighth finals of the women’s doubles of the Australian Open, the year’s first grand slam tournament. PRESIDENCY – Romania’s Presidency of the EU Council on Wednesday
concluded the first file on the protection of personal data. The new
regulations penalize the abusive use by political parties of personal data in
order to influence voters’ behavior. The text must be adopted quickly by the
European Parliament and the European Union Council over the next weeks in order
to serve as reference for the European election in May. The proposal is part of
a wider package of measures launched by the European Commission and aimed at
ensuring free and fair elections.

STRIKE – Energy Minister Anton Anton and State Secretary Doru Visan
are today meeting with trade unions representing the Oltenia Energy Complex in
southern Romania, who are on strike. The company leaders are willing to come up
with a new offer, General Director Sorin Boza has said. He has given assurances
that, while part of the Rovinari thermal power plant shut down last night due
to low coal stocks, the company’s production capacity remains unaffected. The
mixed negotiation committee has approved holiday vouchers and a 150-euro gross
salary increase. Miners demand a raise of at least 340 euros. On Wednesday, the
Gorj Tribunal passed a ruling establishing the illegality of the strike and
calling its immediate end. The management says losses stand at around 3.2
million euros per day. The strike at the Oltenia Energy Complex started on
Friday evening in the Jilt Nord quarry and eventually spread to all the
company’s quarries. Miners report in every day but refuse to work.

VIRUS – The number of deaths caused
by the cold virus this season reached 10. The last victim is a 82-year-old man
from Arad County with a medical history who hadn’t taken the anti-influenza
vaccine. The list of dead also includes a 10-month baby and a 17-year-old man.
Health Minister Sorina Pintea has dismissed the possibility of a flu epidemic,
saying the virus is simply more widely circulated. She said some 1,3 million
anti-flu shots were procured, with some 100,000 shots still remaining. The
Health Ministry recalls the anti-influenza vaccine is the safest and most
effective way to stay healthy.

EUROSTAT – Romania is one of the EU member states with the lower
number of physicians in 2016, a Eurostat report reads. Most member states had
between 60 and 120 physicians per a hundred thousand inhabitants in 2016. Two
countries fared above this mark, namely Portugal (253) and Ireland (179).
Austria, the Netherlands and France followed, with as many as 160 physicians
per a hundred thousand inhabitants. At the opposite pole, the lowest numbers of
physicians were reported in Greece (42), Bulgaria (64), Slovenia (68), Latvia
(72), Spain (75), Great Britain (76) and Romania (77).

ELECTION – The United States has urged Moldovan authorities to take
all necessary action to ensure a free and fair ballot ahead of the legislative
election scheduled for February 24, as well as transparent results that should
observe the voters’ choice. In a declaration of the US State Department, all
candidates must be allowed to enroll and be able to carry out their campaign
without any fear of physical aggression or harassment. The vote will be mixed,
namely 50 MPs will be elected based on party lists, while another 51 from the
constituencies they represent, in a single ballot. According to preliminary
polls, pro-Russian Socialists are favorite to win, followed by a pro-European
right-wing coalition and the Democratic Party in power. At the same time a
referendum will be held regarding the reduction of the number of deputies from
101 to 61, as well as the possibility of them being revoked by citizens.

VISIT – Russian President Vladimir Putin is today paying an
official visit to Serbia aimed at strengthening cooperation with this country
that wants to join the EU. In an interview to Serbian media, Vladimir Putin
denied the accusations of Western powers claiming that Moscow wants to destabilize
the Balkans. On the contrary, Putin argued, the destabilizing factor is the
policy of America and other Western states who want to consolidate their
domination in the region, including by supporting breakaway Kosovo and
attracting Montenegro and Macedonia into NATO. President Putin pointed out
Russia would continue to support Serbia by helping it strengthen its defense
capabilities. The Russian official’s presence in Belgrade triggered increased
security measures, after the latest protests targeting President Aleksandar
Vucic and his Government party, accused of blocking freedom of the press and
attacking the opposition.

BREXIT – The British Conservative Party on Wednesday survived a
vote of no-confidence the Labor Party has launched against Theresa May after
her Cabinet sustained a historic defeat in the House of Communes the other day
on her plan for leaving the European Union. Prime Minister May announced she
would immediately start consultations with parliamentary parties in order to
come up with solutions that would lead to getting the deal voted. The Prime
Minister, who is expected to present a new agreement proposal in Parliament
over the coming days, has invited MPs to work together and ruled out the
possibility of another Brexit referendum. In Bucharest, President Klaus
Iohannis said Wednesday’s vote in the British Parliament is regrettable, saying
there is no reason to worry however given that European leaders have contingencies
in place.

TENNIS – Romanian tennis
player world number one Simona Halep earlier today defeated Sofia Kenin (37
WTA) of the United States in the second round at the Australian Open, score
6-3, 6-7, 6-4. In the men’s singles draw, Marius Copil was ousted by Belgium’s
David Goffin, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, 6-4. Also today in the women’s doubles, Sorana
Cirstea of Romania and Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia advanced to the second round
after knocking out Ying-Ying Duan of China and Vera Lapko of Belarus, 6-2, 6-7,
7-6. In the next round they will be taking on fifth-seeds Andreja Klepac of

BREXIT Britains government must clarify its position after Parliament voted down the Brexit agreement, the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis said in Bucharest today. In his opinion, this decision is regrettable. He added however not that all the procedures which may lead to the approval of the deal have been used, and that the Romanians living in the UK need not worry because European leaders are prepared for other options as well. The agreement approved by the 27 member states will not be renegotiated, the head of the Romanian state added.

VOTE A no-confidence vote against the government is scheduled today in Britains Parliament, which yesterday rejected by a large majority the Brexit agreement with the EU. According to Radio Romanias correspondent, there are slim chances for Theresa Mays Cabinet to be dismissed, given that Northern Irelands representatives in Parliament seem to continue to support the Government. Also, although over 100 Tories voted against the deal, it is unlikely that they will do the same against their own government. The rejection of the Brexit deal is the harshest defeat for a British cabinet in modern times, and questions Britains withdrawal from the European Union, less than 3 months before it is scheduled to take effect. Analysts predict a severe crisis in the UK. Several scenarios have been discussed, including early elections and the holding of a second referendum.

SCHENGEN The Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Meleşcanu said on Tuesday in Strasbourg that there is no reason to deny Romanias Schengen accession, and voiced hopes that a solution will be reached during the Romanian presidency of the Council of the EU. He promised that the Romanian presidency will allow for “very open discussions with the countries opposing Romanias entry, and will invite those countries to present the reasons why they are against Romanias inclusion in the visa-free area. “We hope to be as convincing as possible and to reach a solution, Teodor Melescanu added.

STRIKE The Romanian PM Viorica Dăncilă has talks today with the Energy and Economy ministers, Anton Anton and Niculae Badalau, respectively, and with officials from energy companies, concerning the state of the national energy system in the context of the miners strike at the Oltenia Energy Corporation. Also today, a new round of negotiations is scheduled at the Governments headquarters, in search of a solution to the strike. Previously, the mixed negotiation commission approved, apart from holiday vouchers, a further 150 euro gross monthly pay raise for workers andnearly 80 euros for section chiefs, as of May 1. The coal workers demand a 45% pay raise, holiday vouchers and better working conditions. Thermal power plants, working at full capacity these days, only have coal supplies for another 4-5 days left.

FLU Nine people have died of the flu in Romania so far. According to the authorities, the 9th victim is a 40-year old man who had previous medical conditions and had not been vaccinated. The man tested positive for the AH1 flu virus. Because of the large number of viral respiratory infections, visitor access has been restricted in many hospitals in the country. Nearly 53,000 respiratory infections and over 100 flu cases have been confirmed since the first week of the year.

TENNIS The Romanian player Irina Begu (70 WTA) has been defeated today by the Czech Petra Kvitova (6 WTA), 1-6, 3-6, in the second round of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. The other Romanians still in the race are world no 1 Simona Halep and Marius Copil. Also today, in the womens doubles, the Romanians Irina Maria Bara and Monica Niculescu qualified into the second round, after beating the Spaniards Lara Arruabarrena / Arantxa Parra Santonja, 6-1, 6-1. In the next stage they are facing the winners of the match pitting Lucie Hradecka (Czech Republic) / Ekaterina Makarova (Russia) against Mona Barthel (Germany) / Sofia Kenin (USA). Other Romanians play in the doubles: Irina Begu and Mihaela Buzărnescu, Sorana Cîrstea playing together with Latvias Jelena Ostapenko and Raluca Olaru with Galina Voskoboeva (Kazakhstan).

Sport Club RRI: Românii la Australian Open

România mai are doar doi reprezentanţi în
probele de simplu ale Openului Australiei la tenis. La feminin, Simona Halep,
numărul unu mondial, a trecut, cu emoţii, marţi, în primul tur, de Kaia Kanepi,
din Estonia, numărul 71 mondial. În
primul set, românca a pierdut la tiebreak. A revenit însă în setul secund, pe
care l-a câştigat cu 6-4. Kanepi a greşit apoi din ce în ce mai mult, iar Halep
s-a impus şi în setul trei, cu 6-2. Simona va juca joi în turul secund,
împotriva jucătoarei americane Sofia Kenin, numărul 56 mondial.

În turul doi s-a calificat şi Irina Begu,
numărul 76 WTA. În prima rundă, ea a profitat de abandonul jucătoarei germane
Andrea Petkovic. S-a oprit apoi, în turul secund, în faţa jucătoarei cehe Petra
Kvitova, cap de serie numărul 8, de care a fost învinsă cu 6-1, 6-3.

La masculin, Marius Copil, numărul 60 în
clasamentul ATP, va juca joi în turul secund, împotriva belgianului David Goffin, numărul 22 mondial. Românul s-a
impus marţi, în prima rundă, împotriva spaniolului Marcel Granollers, locul 108 ATP, cu 6-3, 6-4,
6-4.

La dublu masculin, România nu mai are
reprezentanţi. În primul tur, Marius Copil şi ungurul Marton Fucsovics au fost
învinşi de britanicii Luke Bambridge şi Jonny O’Mara cu 6-3, 6-1. Au fost
eliminaţi şi favoriţii numărul 9, Horia Tecău şi olandezul Jean – Julien Rojer,
de cuplul format din salvadorianul Marcelo Arevalo şi americanul Jamie
Cerretani, cu 7-5, 6-7, 6-3.

La dublu feminin, Irina Bara şi Monica
Niculescu au trecut în turul secund, după ce au învins, miercuri, perechea
spaniolă Lara Arruabarrena / Arantxa Parra Santonja, cu 6-1, 6-1. Adversare,
mai departe, le vor fi Lucie Hradecka, din Cehia, şi Ekaterina Makarova, din
Rusia, cuplul cap de serie numărul şase. In primul tur vor mai juca, joi,
perechea Irina Begu / Mihaela Buzărnescu, cap de serie numărul zece, apoi
Sorana Cîrstea, care face pereche cu letona Jelena Ostapenko, şi Raluca Olaru,
