    Gouvernement – Les unités de soins affectées par la pandémie de Covid-19 devraient se voir allouer des fonds suite à la réunion du cabinet Cîţu, qui adoptera également une ordonnance pour encourager les parents en congé parental de retourner au travail avant les six mois de leur enfant. Les parents en question recevraient une gratification de 1.500 lei (environ 300 euros). La ministre du travail Raluca Turcan espère que la majoration de cette prime fera retourner au travail au moins 25% des parents qui se trouvent en congé parental. D’après la ministre, cette ordonnance soutient tant les employeurs, en leur fournissant de la main d’œuvre, que les employés, qui ne risquent pas d’être éloignés du marché de travail après un temps d’arrêt si bref. Enfin, le gouvernement abordera la procédure pour désigner le candidat de la Roumanie pour le poste de juge au Tribunal de l’Union européenne.

    Coronavirus – Les autorités roumaines ont rapporté mercredi 5.400 nouveaux cas de contamination au Sars-Cov-2, sur 40.000 tests effectués à travers le pays. 175 personnes sont décédées des suites de l’infection. Près de 14.000 personnes sont hospitalisées actuellement, dont 1.487 en réanimation.

    Climat – La pandémie de Covid-19 est arrivée à un moment difficile pour le système roumain de santé, a déclaré mardi, à Bucarest, le président Klaus Iohannis lors d’un débat sur le changement climatique pour la Journée mondiale de la santé. Le chef de l’Etat roumain a souligné qu’aucune économie et aucune société n’étaient réellement préparées pour affronter une crise d’une telle envergure. L’immunisation de la population par la vaccination reste le seul instrument viable pour arrêter la pandémie, a ajouté Klaus Iohannis, mais des efforts communs soutenus sont nécessaires pour tenir le virus sous contrôle avant d’arriver à un taux de couverture vaccinale suffisant. Les effets du changement climatique sur la santé publique sont graves et le deviendront encore plus si on ne s’occupe pas de les combattre, a conclu le président Iohannis. Présent à l’événement, le directeur du Bureau régional de l’Organisation mondiale de la santé pour l’Europe, dr. Hans Kluge, a affirmé que la Roumanie était un exemple positif dans la région pour ce qui est de la lutte contre la pandémie de Covid-19, en réussissant de diminuer ses effets par une coordination efficace entre les institutions, par la solidarité des communautés et par le dévouement héroïque du personnel sanitaire. L’événement de Bucarest a été organisé par l’Administration présidentielle et le Bureau de l’Organisation mondiale de la santé en Roumanie. Y ont également pris part des représentants du programme des Nations Unies pour l’environnement et du Parlement européen, ainsi que des membres du gouvernement et du parlement de Bucarest.

    Diplomatie – Le chef de la diplomatie roumaine Bogdan Aurescu sera aujourd’hui en Italie sur invitation de son homologue Luigi di Maio. Selon un communiqué de presse du ministère des Affaires étrangères, Bogdan Aurescu abordera avec M. di Maio les modalités concrètes pour consolider la coopération entre la Roumanie et l’Italie, sur un plan politique et économique, tout en sachant qu’une très importante communauté roumaine vit dans la Péninsule italienne. La coopération au niveau communautaire pour lutter contre les effets de la pandémie de Covid-19 sera évoquée aussi. Le programme de la visite du ministre roumain comprend également une rencontre avec la présidente du Sénat italien, Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati et une réunion en vidéoconférence avec les chefs des services consulaires de la Roumanie en Italie. Ca sera l’occasion d’aborder la réforme des services consulaires lancée par le ministère des Affaires étrangères de Bucarest et plusieurs points d’actualité qui concernent les Roumains vivant en Italie. Enfin, le ministre Aurescu prendra part à une cérémonie durant laquelle seront décorées plusieurs personnes ayant entrepris des actions de charité pour soutenir la communauté roumaine durant la crise de Covid-19.

    Tennis – Camila Giorgi, 80e au classement WTA et meilleure joueuses de tennis de l’équipe d’Italie, a été testée positive au coronavirus et ne participera pas aux matchs contre la Roumanie dans les qualifications pour la Billie Jean King Cup (ex-Fed Cup). La débutante Bianca Turati (281 WTA) a été désignée pour prendre sa place. Les autres membres de l’équipe italienne sont Martina Trevisan (99 WTA), Jasmine Paolini (103 WTA), Elisabetta Cocciaretto (111 WTA) et Giulia Gatto-Monticone (177 WTA). L’équipe de Roumanie compte Simona Halep (3 WTA), Patricia Maria Ţig (63 WTA), Irina Bara (132 WTA), Mihaela Buzărnescu (136 WTA) et Monica Niculescu (174 WTA). La rencontre Roumanie – Italie se déroulera sans spectateurs, les 16 et 17 avril, à Cluj-Napoca, dans le nord-ouest de la Roumanie.

    Météo – Il fait froid dans la plupart des régions de Roumanie, où les températures maximales iront de 0° à 11° seulement. On attend de la neige dans le nord-est et le centre du pays, des précipitations mixtes dans l’ouest et de la pluie dans le sud-est du territoire. Le vent connaitra des intensifications et les rafales atteindront 50 à 70 km/h dans le sud-ouest du pays et sur les crêtes des Carpates. A Bucarest, il faisait 4° à midi, sous un ciel couvert.

    EARLY ELECTIONS – The investiture vote for the new Cabinet will be held in Parliament on February 24. Ministers will appear before the specialist committees starting next week. Prime Minister designate Ludovic Orban said he wants to trigger early elections, by enabling citizens to elect a new Parliament, which should be fairer, more honest and more representative. Ludovic Orban is holding talks with parliamentary party officials, in an attempt to garner support for the organization of early elections. Snap elections may only be called if 2 Cabinet nominations are rejected by Parliament within 2 months. Orban, whose Liberal Cabinet was recently dismissed under a no-confidence motion, Monday sent to Parliament a list of ministers, with no changes whatsoever from the previous team, and a slightly updated government programme. The main party in Parliament, the Social Democrats, announced they will not take part in the talks with the Liberals. The Social Democratic Party filed a challenge with the Constitutional Court, arguing that the President designating a prime minister who has already been dismissed comes against the will of Parliament. The idea of early elections is mainly supported by the National Liberal Party and Save Romania Union. Regular general elections are scheduled for this autumn.

    JUDICIARY – The incumbent Justice Minister Cătălin Predoiu on Tuesday presented European Commission experts with a bill on dismantling the special division investigating magistrate offences as well as the progress of debates on this topic. In its latest Cooperation and Verification Mechanism report the Commission criticized the establishment and the activity of this division, which it said was an instrument of political pressure. The latest report under the Mechanism was released in October 2019, and suggested the extension of verification on the Romanian judiciary, on grounds that in 2019 Romania backslid in terms of the fight against corruption and the independence of the justice system. A team of European Commission experts met in Bucharest with members of Parliament’s judicial committees. According to the chairman of the judicial committee in the Chamber of Deputies, talks focused on identifying the best solutions regarding the criminal and criminal procedure codes and appointing chief prosecutors.

    INFLATION – The central bank has lowered Romania’s 2020 inflation forecast from 3.1% to 3%, Governor Mugur Isărescu announced on Tuesday. For next year the National Bank expects a 3.2% inflation rate. A number of elements have been taken into account, which might lead to a decrease of the inflation rate from the forecast value. These elements include developments in the Eurozone economy, including geopolitical tensions and weaknesses in emerging markets, a possible escalation of trade conflicts, the completion of Brexit, as well as the accommodating monetary policies of the European Central Bank and the Fed. On the other hand, liberalization of the electricity and natural gas markets may push inflation higher than expected, as do the problems in the labor market, such as the shortage of labor and the mismatch between demand and supply in this respect.

    COVID-19 – China announced that the novel coronavirus has already killed more than 1,000 people, and the number of cases exceeds 42,000. In the last 24 hours alone, over 100 deaths have been reported, which is the largest number of victims in just one day since the epidemic broke out. Most deaths were reported in the Hubei province. A team of physicians with the World Health Organization has arrived in China to help in the research. Meanwhile, the WHO organizes a 2-day meeting in Geneva, with renowned physicians, public healthcare experts and scientists, in an attempt to encourage a better response of the international community to the new coronavirus outbreak. On opening the meeting, the WHO director general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the coronavirus epidemic was a major threat, and called on scientists to work together to develop vaccines or medication to fight the virus. The official code name for the virus is Covid-19. In Romania, several people, including Chinese nationals, are under house monitoring, and the authorities continue to take measures to prepare for possible infection cases. A special unit was set up in Bucharest for the Romanians who return from China and have to be quarantined for 14 days.

    TENNIS – Romania’s Fed Cup team will take on Italy in a playoff match that will decide which team remains in the World Group, according to Tuesday’s draw held in London. The match will be played in Romania over April 17-18. Romania last weekend lost 3-2 to Russia at home, counting towards the final tournament. Simona Halep, world no. 2, did not represent Romania. Italy currently leads 2-1 in matches against Romania.

    Politique – C’est le 24 février que l’investiture du nouveau gouvernement roumain aura lieu au Parlement de Bucarest. Les futurs ministres seront auditionnés la semaine prochaine. Cette décision a été prise mardi lors de la réunion des bureaux permanents du Parlement. A cette occasion, le premier ministre désigné, le libéral Ludovic Orban, a réitéré son objectif déclaré de déclencher les élections anticipées, afin de « donner aux Roumain le pouvoir d’élire un nouveau Législatif, plus correct, plus honnête et plus représentatif ». D’ailleurs il est en train de discuter avec les représentants des partis politiques membres du Parlement afin d’obtenir leur appui pour l’organisation d’élections législatives anticipées. Le scrutin peut être organisé uniquement si dans un délai de deux mois depuis la présentation au Parlement d’une première liste de ministres et d’un programme de gouvernance, le législatif vote contre deux propositions d’exécutif. Ludovic Orban, dont le gouvernement a été récemment destitué par motion de censure, a transmis lundi au Législatif la liste des ministres du futur cabinet, qui est en fait identique au gouvernement précédent et un programme de gouvernance légèrement mis à jour. Depuis l’opposition, la principale force politique du Parlement, le PSD a refusé de participer aux négociations avec les libéraux. Les sociaux-démocrates ont contesté à la Cour Constitutionnelle la nomination par le président d’un premier ministre destitué, parce qu’elle transgresse ainsi la volonté du Parlement. L’idée des élections anticipées est soutenue principalement par le PNL et par l’USR. Les prochaines élections législatives sont prévues pour l’automne 2020.

    MCV – Mardi, à Bucarest, le ministre roumain de la Justice, Catalin Predoiu, a présenté aux experts de la Commission européenne le projet qui supprime la Section spéciale d’investigation des magistrats et l’état des négociations politiques à ce sujet. Dans son plus récent rapport réalisé en octobre dernier dans le cadre du Mécanisme de coopération et de vérification, la Commission européenne avait critiqué la création et l’activité de cette section qu’elle avait qualifiée d’instrument de pression politique. A la même occasion, la Commission européenne a proposé que le MCV soit maintenu, estimant que la Roumanie « a fait des pas en arrière » pour ce qui est de la lutte contre la corruption et de l’indépendance de la Justice. Les experts de la Commission ont rencontré aussi des membres des commissions parlementaires juridiques de Bucarest. Ensemble ils ont tenté de trouver les meilleures solutions pour l’application des Codes pénaux et ils se sont également penchés sur la nomination des procureurs de haut rang.

    Inflation – La Banque Centrale de Roumanie a diminué ses prévisions pour l’inflation en 2020 de 3,1% à 3%, a fait savoir mardi le gouverneur Mugur Isarescu. Pour l’année prochaine son institution table sur un taux d’inflation de 3,2%. La banque a pris en compte plusieurs facteurs qui pourraient entraîner la baisse du taux d’inflation en-dessous du niveau prévu, tels l’évolution de l’économie dans la zone euro (dans le contexte des tensions géopolitiques et des vulnérabilités de certains marchés émergents), une possible escalade des conflits commerciaux, la finalisation du Brexit ou encore la conduite des politiques monétaires de la Banque Centrale Européenne et de la Réserve Fédérale des Etats-Unis. Par contre, la libéralisation des marchés de l’énergie et du gaz naturel pourrait engendrer une inflation plus élevée que prévu, tout comme les difficultés sur le marché du travail, soit les inégalités entre l’offre d’emplois et la demande.

    Coronavirus – Les autorités chinoises ont annoncé que l’épidémie de pneumonie provoquée par le nouveau coronavirus a tué déjà un millier de personnes et que le nombre des personnes infectées a dépassé les 42 mille. L’OMS a par ailleurs convoqué mardi et mercredi à son siège de Genève une réunion d’experts pour faire le point sur la recherche et le développement de vaccins et traitements contre le coronavirus, dont le nom officiel est « Covid-19 ». Par ailleurs, en Roumanie, plusieurs personnes, y compris des ressortissants chinois ont été assignés à domicile sous supervision médicale, alors que les autorités ont entrepris des mesures pour contrecarrer les éventuels cas d’infection au coronavirus. A Bucarest, des espaces d’accueil ont été mis en place pour les Roumains qui rentrent de Chine et qui doivent observer une période de 14 jours d’isolement.

    Grippe – Pour ce qui est de la grippe saisonnière, elle a déjà fait 29 victimes en Roumanie, l’épidémie de grippe ayant été déclarée officiellement le jeudi dernier. Plus de 16.000 élèves sur l’ensemble du pays sont concernés par la suspension totale ou partielle des classes en raison de cette épidémie. Les spécialistes s’attendent à ce que le nombre des infections soit à la hausse dans les semaines à venir, vu que de nombreux Roumains ne se sont pas fait vacciner.

    Tennis – L’équipe tennis féminin de la Roumanie affrontera l’Italie dans un match de barrage pour rester dans le Groupe Mondial de la Fed Cup. Les Roumaines joueront à domicile les 17 et 18 avril prochains. Le weekend dernier, elles se sont inclinées devant la Russie, dans un match comptant pour la qualification au tournoi final de la compétition et auquel Simona Halep, n°2 mondiale, n’a pas participé.

    We start with handball. The women’s handball team CSM Bucharest has taken a new step forward towards the Champions League quarter finals. On Saturday, in a match counting for Main Group 1, Romania’s vice-champions defeated, away from home, the Norwegian team Vipers Kristiansand 25-23. Cristina Neagu scored 14 times. CSM thus went up to 4th place in the group, with 7 points. On the first 3 places are Metz from France, Rostov-Don from Russia and Team Esbjerg from Denmark, all with 9 points each, three rounds ahead of the main stage final. Qualifying to the quarter finals are the first 4 teams in the classification.



    In Main Group 2, SCM Ramnicu Valcea lost, on home ground, to the Hungarian team ETO Győr 20 to 29. The Romanian handballers have 4 points, being ranked 4th in the group. Top of the classification are Győr and Brest Bretagne of France with 13 points each. 3rd ranked is Buducnost Podgorica from Montenegro, with 8 points.



    In the EHF Cup, Gloria Bistrita-Nasaud managed to qualify to the quarter finals, having been previously ranked 2nd in group C. In the last round, Gloria Bistrita ended the away match against the Hungarian team ERD in a 24-all draw. In group B, Măgura Cisnădie is ranked last, after having lost all matches played.



    Now news from tennis. Romania’s women’s team on Sunday failed to qualify to the final of the Fed Cup tournament after having been defeated by Russia in Cluj, 3-2. On Friday Ana Bogdan defeated Veronika Kudermetova 6-3, 6-7, 6-1 and Elena Gabriela Ruse was defeated by Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-1, 6-4. On Saturday Alexandrova had the upper hand on Ana Bogdan winning the match 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 then Jaqueline Cristian leveled the score, after defeating Kudermetova 7-5, 6-3. In the doubles, the pair Ana Blinkova/Ana Kalinskaia defeated the Romanian pair Jaqueline Cristian/ Gabriela Ruse 6-3, 6-2. Simona Halep, Irina Begu and Monica Niculescu did not participate in this competition as they preferred to focus on the WTA tournaments with a view to getting qualification to the Olympic Games to be hosted by Tokyo.



    We pass on to rugby. Romania’s national team lost the 2nd match played as part of the 2020 Rugby Europe Championship. ‘Stejarii’ were defeated away from home, in Caldas da Rainha, by the Portuguese team, 22-11.



    At the weekend, matches were played in the 24th stage of the Romanian First League championship. On Friday Chindia Târgovişte defeated Astra, in Giurgiu, 2 – 1. On Saturday in Mediaş, Gaz Metan ended in a nil-all draw the match against CFR Cluj. 3 matches were played on Sunday. Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe defeated Poli Iaşi on home turf 1-0, FC Voluntari won also on home ground against Dinamo Bucharest 2-1 and Universitatea Craiova defeated Viitorul Constanţa, 2-1, away from home. Monday will see the last 2 matches of the stage: FC Botoşani will be up against FC Hermannstadt and FCSB will play Academica of Clinceni.     feminin CSM Bucureşti a făcut un nou pas către sferturile de finală ale Ligii
    Campionilor. Sâmbătă, într-un joc contând pentru Grupa principală 1,
    vicecampioana României a trecut, în deplasare, cu 25 la 23 de formaţia
    norvegiană Vipers Kristiansand. Cristina Neagu a marcat de 14 ori. CSM a urcat
    astfel pe locul 4 în grupă, având 7 puncte. Pe primele trei locuri se află
    Metz, din Franţa, Rostov-Don, din Rusia, şi Team Esbjerg, din Danemarca, toate
    cu câte 9 puncte, cu trei etape înainte de finalul fazei principale. Se
    califică în sferturi primele patru clasate.


    În Grupa
    principală 2, SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea a pierdut, acasă, în faţa echipei maghiare ETO
    Győr, cu 20 la 29. Formaţia
    română are 4 puncte şi ocupă locul 4 în grupă. În clasament conduc Győr şi Brest Bretagne, din Franţa, cu câte
    13 puncte. Pe locul 3 se află echipa muntenegreană Buducnost Podgorica, cu 8
    puncte.


    În Cupa EHF,
    Gloria Bistriţa – Năsăud a reuşit calificarea în sferturile de finală.
    Ardelencele au ocupat locul 2 în grupa C. În ultima etapă, ele au încheiat la
    egalitate, 24 la 24, în deplasare, cu formaţia maghară ÉRD. În grupa B, Măgura
    Cisnădie a ocupat ultimul loc, după ce a pirdut toate partidele disputate.


    Din tenis, să
    notăm că echipa feminină a României a ratat calificarea la turneul final al Fed
    Cup după ce a fost învinsă, la Cluj, de Rusia, cu 3 la 2. Vineri, Ana Bogdan a
    învins-o pe Veronika Kudermetova cu 6-3, 6-7, 6-1, după ce Elena Gabriela Ruse a fost întrecută cu scorul de 6-1, 6-4 de
    Ekaterina Alexandrova. Sâmbătă, Alexandrova a învins-o pe Ana Bogdan cu 7-5,
    3-6, 7-5, apoi Jaqueline Cristian a restabilit egalitatea după ce a trecut de
    Kudermetova cu 7-5, 6-3. Soarta meciului s-a hotărât la dublu, unde Ana
    Blinkova şi Ana Kalinskaia au trecut de Jaqueline Cristian şi Gabriela Ruse cu
    6-3, 6-2. Pentru această întâlnire, din echipa României nu au făcut parte
    jucătoarele Simona Halep, Irina Begu şi Monica Niculescu, care au renunţat la
    convocare pentru a se concentra pe turneele WTA în vederea calificării la
    Jocurile Olimpice de la Tokio.


    Trecem la rugby. Naţionala României a pierdut al doilea joc
    disputat în ediţia 2020 a Rugby Europe Championship. Stejarii au fost învinşi, în deplasare, la
    Caldas da Rainha, de formaţia Portugaliei, cu 22 la 11. Pentru România au
    punctat Florin Vlaicu, prin două lovituri de pedeapsă, şi Marius Simionescu,
    care a reuşit un eseu.


    În weekend au
    avut loc jocuri în campionatul primei ligi române de fotbal, etapa a 24-a.
    Vineri, Chindia Târgovişte a trecut, la Giurgiu, de Astra cu 2 la 1. Sâmbătă,
    la Mediaş, Gaz Metan a încheiat la egalitate, 0 la 0, cu CFR Cluj. Duminică
    s-au desfăşurat trei jocuri. Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe a trecut, acasă, de Poli
    Iaşi cu 1-0, FC Voluntari s-a impus pe teren propriu, cu 2-1, în faţa echipei
    Dinamo Bucureşti, iar Universitatea Craiova a învins Viitorul Constanţa, în
    deplasare, cu 2-1. Luni, ultimele două jocuri ale etapei: FC Botoşani cu FC
    Hermannstadt şi FCSB cu Academica din Clinceni. În clasament conduce Clujul, cu
    47 de puncte. Urmează Craiova, cu 43.

    vicecampioana României a trecut, în deplasare, cu 25 la 23 de formaţia
    norvegiană Vipers Kristiansand. Cristina Neagu a marcat de 14 ori. CSM a urcat
    astfel pe locul 4 în grupă, având 7 puncte. Pe primele trei locuri se află
    Metz, din Franţa, Rostov-Don, din Rusia, şi Team Esbjerg, din Danemarca, toate
    cu câte 9 puncte, cu trei etape înainte de finalul fazei principale. Se
    califică în sferturi primele patru clasate.


    În Grupa
    principală 2, SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea a pierdut, acasă, în faţa echipei maghiare ETO
    Győr, cu 20 la 29. Formaţia
    română are 4 puncte şi ocupă locul 4 în grupă. În clasament conduc Győr şi Brest Bretagne, din Franţa, cu câte
    13 puncte. Pe locul 3 se află echipa muntenegreană Buducnost Podgorica, cu 8
    puncte.


    În Cupa EHF,
    Gloria Bistriţa – Năsăud a reuşit calificarea în sferturile de finală.
    Ardelencele au ocupat locul 2 în grupa C. În ultima etapă, ele au încheiat la
    egalitate, 24 la 24, în deplasare, cu formaţia maghară ÉRD. În grupa B, Măgura
    Cisnădie a ocupat ultimul loc, după ce a pirdut toate partidele disputate.


    Din tenis, să
    notăm că echipa feminină a României a ratat calificarea la turneul final al Fed
    Cup după ce a fost învinsă, la Cluj, de Rusia, cu 3 la 2. Vineri, Ana Bogdan a
    învins-o pe Veronika Kudermetova cu 6-3, 6-7, 6-1, după ce Elena Gabriela Ruse a fost întrecută cu scorul de 6-1, 6-4 de
    Ekaterina Alexandrova. Sâmbătă, Alexandrova a învins-o pe Ana Bogdan cu 7-5,
    3-6, 7-5, apoi Jaqueline Cristian a restabilit egalitatea după ce a trecut de
    Kudermetova cu 7-5, 6-3. Soarta meciului s-a hotărât la dublu, unde Ana
    Blinkova şi Ana Kalinskaia au trecut de Jaqueline Cristian şi Gabriela Ruse cu
    6-3, 6-2. Pentru această întâlnire, din echipa României nu au făcut parte
    jucătoarele Simona Halep, Irina Begu şi Monica Niculescu, care au renunţat la
    convocare pentru a se concentra pe turneele WTA în vederea calificării la
    Jocurile Olimpice de la Tokio.


    Trecem la rugby. Naţionala României a pierdut al doilea joc
    disputat în ediţia 2020 a Rugby Europe Championship. Stejarii au fost învinşi, în deplasare, la
    Caldas da Rainha, de formaţia Portugaliei, cu 22 la 11. Pentru România au
    punctat Florin Vlaicu, prin două lovituri de pedeapsă, şi Marius Simionescu,
    care a reuşit un eseu.


    În weekend au
    avut loc jocuri în campionatul primei ligi române de fotbal, etapa a 24-a.
    Vineri, Chindia Târgovişte a trecut, la Giurgiu, de Astra cu 2 la 1. Sâmbătă,
    la Mediaş, Gaz Metan a încheiat la egalitate, 0 la 0, cu CFR Cluj. Duminică
    s-au desfăşurat trei jocuri. Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe a trecut, acasă, de Poli
    Iaşi cu 1-0, FC Voluntari s-a impus pe teren propriu, cu 2-1, în faţa echipei
    Dinamo Bucureşti, iar Universitatea Craiova a învins Viitorul Constanţa, în
    deplasare, cu 2-1. Luni, ultimele două jocuri ale etapei: FC Botoşani cu FC
    Hermannstadt şi FCSB cu Academica din Clinceni. În clasament conduce Clujul, cu

    Rumäniens designierter Premierminister Liberal Ludovic Orban kündigte an, dass er dem Parlament am Montag die Liste der Minister und das aktualisierte Regierungsprogramm vorlegen werde, um die Investierungsverfahren der neuen Regierung einzuleiten. Die Ankündigung erfolgt, nachdem Staatspräsident Klaus Iohannis den PNL-Führer mit der Bildung eines neuen Kabinetts beauftragt hat. Die Entscheidung wurde getroffen, nachdem die Exekutive unter der Führung von Ludovic Orban am Mittwoch durch einen von der wichtigsten Oppositionspartei, der PSD, eingeleiteten Misstrauensantrag entlassen worden war. Die Regierung hatte zuvor beschlossen, nur wenige Monate vor den Wahlen, die Vertrauensfrage für die Bürgermeisterwahl in zwei Wahlgängen zu stellen. Das Staatsoberhaupt bekräftigte ferner, dass seiner Meinung nach die Organisierung vorgezogener Parlamentswahlen die beste Option für Rumänien sei. Interims-Vize-Premierministerin Raluca Turcan erklärte, dass alle PNL-Abgeordneten bei der Investierung des neuen Kabinetts im Plenum anwesend sein werden. Diese werden sich jedoch der Abstimmung enthalten, mit dem Ziel vorverlegte Wahlen zu organisieren. Dafür sollte das Parlament zwei aufeinanderfolgende nominierte Vorschläge ablehnen. Doch bevor eine Abstimmung in der Legislative für die Orban-Regierung 2 erreicht ist, haben die Sozialdemokraten angekündigt, das Verfassungsgericht auf die Ernennung von Ludovic Orban, der gerade als Premierminister entlassen wurde, aufmerksam zu machen.

    Wirtschaftsanalysten stellen fest, dass die rumänische Landeswährung, der Leu, die Woche in einem Aufwärtstrend beendete, der anscheinend nicht wesentlich von der Instabilität beeinflusst wurde, die durch die Entlassung der Regierung verursacht wurde. Der Leu, der bei den Transaktionen von Donnerstag und Freitag aufgewertet wurde, beträgt laut dem auf der Website der Nationalbank veröffentlichten Kurs jetzt 4 Lei, 76 Bani und 4 Cent für die europäische Währung. Notenbankchef Mugur Isarescu meint, dass sich die Investoren bereits an die politische Unsicherheit gewöhnt haben, und erklärte, dass der Grund für die Aufwertung des Leu die mangelnde Liquidität auf dem Markt sei.     Der Politische Ausschuss der Union Rettet Rumänien (USR), die im Parlament von Bukarest vertreten ist, und der Nationalrat von PLUS unter der Leitung des ehemaligen Premierministers und EU-Kommissars Dacian Cioloş treffen zu getrennten Sitzungen, um über ihre Fusion zu entscheiden. Der Abgeordnete der Union Rettet Rumänien Ionuţ Moşteanu sagte, dass die nationalen Büros vorgeschlagen hätten, im Juli einen Fusionskongress abzuhalten. Die Entscheidung habe jedoch die Führer der beiden Formationen. Andererseits stimmten nach einer internen Wahl 91% der USR-Mitglieder für die Doktrin als Mitte-Rechts-Partei. Das Referendum wurde auf Initiative von USR-Präsident Dan Barna einberufen und läuft seit sieben Tagen, beginnend mit dem 1. Februar.



    Die Zahl der Rumänen, die an Grippe gestorben sind, erreichte 23, nachdem fünf weitere Menschen – zwei Frauen und drei Männer – im Alter zwischen 26 und 67 Jahren ums Leben gekommen sind. Alle litten an anderen Krankheiten und es gibt keine Informationen darüber, dass sie geimpft wurden. Am Donnerstag wurde die Grippe-Epidemie in Rumänien offiziell gemeldet. Über 16.000 Schüler aus dem ganzen Land sind von der teilweisen oder vollständigen Unterbrechung der Kurse aufgrund dieser Krankheit betroffen. Die zunehmende Tendenz der Krankheiten werde sich nach Angaben der Fachleute auch in den kommenden Wochen fortsetzen, da viele Rumänen nicht geimpft worden seien.



    Über 12,8 Millionen Ausländer wurden 2019 an der Grenze nach Rumänien registriert, ein Anstieg von 9 Prozent gegenüber dem Vorjahr – so das Nationale Statistikamt. Fast die Hälfte stammte aus anderen EU-Ländern, und über 90% stammten aus Ländern des Kontinents. Die meisten kamen aus der benachbarten Moldaurepublik. Gegenüber 2018 hat die Zahl der Ankünfte aus Afrika, Amerika und Australien deutlich zugenommen. Der Straßenverkehr wurde am häufigsten von Ausländern für Reisen nach Rumänien genutzt, doch der Anteil des Schienen- oder Seeverkehrs stieg um mehr als 10 Prozent.



    Rumänien, das von Russland mit 2: 3 besiegt wurde, verpasste die Qualifizierung für die Endrunde des Fed Cup im April, einem Wettbewerb, der den nationalen Tennisteams der Frauen vorbehalten ist.     GOVERNMENT – Prime Minister designate Ludovic Orban announced he would submit, on Monday, in Parliament the list of ministers and an updated governing program with a view to starting procedures for swearing in the new government. The announcement came after President Klaus Iohannis designated the Liberal leader to from a new cabinet. The decision was made after the first Orban government was dismissed on Wednesday through a no confidence motion initiated by the main opposition party, the Social Democratic Party, following the government’s decision to take responsibility for a bill on returning to the two-round voting system for local elections, only a few months ahead of the elections. The Romanian president also reiterated his opinion that holding early elections was the best option for Romania at the moment. Interim Social-Democrat leader Marcel Ciolacu announced his party is considering the possibility of notifying the Constitutional Court on Orban’s appointment, who was just ousted as Prime Minister. To call early elections Parliament must reject two consecutive proposals of Prime Minister designate.

    MERGER – The leadership of Save Romania Union, the 3rd largest party in the Romanian Parliament and of PLUS, led by the former Prime Minister and European Commissioner Dacian Ciolos, met on Saturday in separate meetings to decide on a merger. The two parties will next agree on the conditions. Following internal elections called at the initiative of the Union president Dan Barna, 91% of the Union members voted for their party to be positioned on the center-right side of the political spectrum. Elected on common lists, Save Romania Union and PLUS MEPs are affiliated to the Renew Europe centrist group in the European Parliament.

    TOURISTS – Over 12.8 million foreign tourists crossed Romania’s borders in 2019, up by 9% compared to 2018, the National Statistics Institute reports. Nearly half of them originated from EU Member States, 90% of whom were from continental Europe. The largest share of foreign tourists was represented by tourists from neighboring Moldova. Compared to 2018, Romania reported a growing number of arrivals from Africa, America and Australia. Road transport was the most frequent choice by foreign tourists to reach Romania, although rail and naval transport have also gone up by 10% compared to the previous year.

    FLU VIRUS – Sunday was the fourth day since a flu epidemic was called in Romania, experts saying the number of sick will increase over the coming weeks, as many people haven’t taken the anti-flu shot. The death toll for this flu season has reached 23. Physicians recommend people to avoid overcrowded places, observe hygiene rules and carry out triage in collectivities, especially schooling units.

    HANDBALL – Romanian vice-champions CSM Bucharest on Saturday defeated Vipers Kristiansand of Norway 25-23 away from home in Champions League’s Group 1. CSM ranks 4th in the group tables, behind Metz of France, Team Esbjerg of Denmark and Rostov Don of Russia. The position allows CSM to qualify to the Champions League quarterfinals. Romanian champions SCM Ramnicu Valcea also on Saturday lost 20-29 to Gyori Audi ETO KC of Hungary. Gyori is top of the group tables, followed by Brest Bretagne Handball of France and Buducnost Podgorica of Montenegro.

    FED CUP – Romania lost 2-3 to Russia at home in the Fed Cup and missed the chance to qualify to the final tournament in April. On Saturday, in the decisive doubles match, Jaqueline Cristian and Gabriela Ruse lost to Ana Blinkova and Ana Kalinskaya in straight sets, 3-6, 2-6. Simona Halep, Irina Begu and Monica Niculescu did not represent Romania, preferring to focus on WTA tournaments in order to secure qualification to the Olympic Games in Tokyo this year. Florin Segarceanu called up to the Fed Cup squad Ana Bogdan (90 WTA), Irina Bara (160 WTA), Elena Gabriela Ruse (166 WTA), Raluca Olaru (47 WTA doubles standings) and Jaqueline Cristian (197 WTA).     România a fost învinsă de Rusia cu 3-2 în meciul din play-off-ul Grupei Mondiale a Fed Cup, sâmbătă, în Sala Polivalentă din Cluj-Napoca, ratând calificarea la turneul final. Jaqueline Cristian şi Gabriela Ruse au pierdut meciul de dublul în fața echipei formată din Blinkova/Ana Kalinskaia în două seturi, 6-3, 6-2.



    Jaqueline Cristian (197 WTA) a învins-o pe Veronika Kudermetova (38 WTA) cu 7-5, 6-3, la debutul său în echipa de Fed Cup a României, în al patrulea meci de simplu. În primul meci de sâmbătă, rusoaica Ekaterina Alexandrova (28 WTA) a învins-o pe Ana Bogdan (90 WTA) cu 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.



    Ana Bogdan a câștigat, vineri, în fața Veronikai Kudermetova cu 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1, după ce Elena Gabriela Ruse (166 WTA) a pierdut cu 6-1, 6-4 meciul cu Ekaterina Alexandrova.



    Echipa naţională de tenis a României a întâlnit în 7 şi 8 februarie, în Sala Polivalentă din Cluj-Napoca, selecţionata Rusiei în Grupa Mondială a Fed Cup. Meciul a contat pentru calificarea la turneul final al Fed Cup de la Budapesta, din 14-19 aprilie.

The interim leader of the PSD Marcel Ciolacu said he was considering notifying the Constitutional Court over the re-designation of the outgoing PM Ludovic Orban as the new PM. To call early elections the Parliament should reject two proposals of PM designate.



    USR — The political committee of the Save Romania Union party (USR) represented in the Romanian Parliament and the National Council of PLUS, led by the former PM and European Commissioner Dacian Ciolos, are meeting today in separate meetings to decide on a merger. The USR deputy Ionut Mosteanu pointed out that the national bureaus proposed that a merger congress should take place in July, but the decision lies with the leaderships of the two parties. In another development, following internal elections, 91% of the USR members voted for their party to be positioned on the center-right side of the political spectrum. The referendum called at the initiative of the USR president Dan Barna unfolded for 7 days starting on February 1.



    Flu — 23 Romanians have so far died of the flu since the beginning of the flu season. The latest flu victims are two women and three men aged between 26 and 67. They all suffered from other diseases and had not been allegedly vaccinated. On Thursday the Romanian healthcare authorities officially declared a flu epidemic. More than 16 thousand pupils from across Romania are affected by the partial or full suspension of classes due to the flu. Experts say that the upward trend of flu cases will be maintained in the coming weeks, since lots of Romanians have not got a flu shot.



    Tennis – The matches pitting the Romanian and Russian teams in the playoff of the Fed Cup World Group continue Saturday in the northwestern Romanian town of Cluj Napoca. In the singles competition Ana Bogdan will play against Ekaterina Alexandrova and Elena Gabriela Ruse against Veronika Kudermetova while in the doubles the pair Irina Bara/Raluca Olaru will be up against Ana Blinkova/Ana Kalinskaia. On Friday evening, after the first day of competition, the two teams were on a par with the same number of points 1-1. The Romanian Elena Gabriela Ruse (166 WTA) was defeated in 2 sets by Ekaterina Alexandrova (28 WTA), and Ana Bogdan (90 WTA) won against the Russian Veronika Kudermetova (38 WTA) in 3 sets. The winning nations will advance to the inaugural Fed Cup Finals in Budapest scheduled for April 14 to 19.



    Rugby — Romania’s national rugby team is playing today against Portugal, away from home, in the 2nd round of the Rugby Europe Championship, after having been defeated in the first round by Georgia. This is the 25th match between Romania and Portugal, with the Romanians winning 21 of the 24 matches played since 1967.     Gouvernement — Le chef de l’Etat roumain, Klaus Iohannis, a chargé le leader libéral, Ludovic Orban, de former un nouveau gouvernement, pour lequel il devrait solliciter le vote de confiance du Parlement. Cette décision intervient à l’issue des consultations que le président roumain a eues avec les partis parlementaires. Le chef de l’Etat continue à privilégier le scénario des élections anticipées qu’il considère comme le meilleur possible pour la Roumanie. Le cabinet Orban a été destitué mercredi suite à une motion de censure initiée par le PSD et l’UDMR, en raison de la décision de l’Exécutif d’engager sa responsabilité politique sur le retour à l’élection des maires à deux tours. Aux termes de la Constitution roumaine, le candidat aux fonctions de premier ministre dispose de dix jours pour demander le vote de confiance du Parlement sur son programme de gouvernance et sur sa liste de ministres. Ce vendredi, le PSD et le PNL se sont réciproquement menacés de déposer des plaintes à la Cour constitutionnelle sur des aspects relevant de la situation politique à Bucarest. Le premier ministre désigné a fait savoir qu’il déposerait lundi au Parlement la liste des ministres et le programme de gouvernance mis à jour, afin de démarrer les procédures d’investiture du nouveau gouvernement.



    Conseil — Le chef de l’Etat roumain, Klaus Iohannis, a eu vendredi, à Bruxelles, un entretien avec le président du Conseil européen, Charles Michel. Les deux officiels ont abordé la question du futur cadre financier pluriannuel, après la sortie du Royaume-Uni de lUE. Klaus Iohannis avait déclaré, avant cette rencontre, qu’il allait mener des négociations très serrées pour que la Roumanie puisse bénéficier d’une augmentation des fonds de cohésion et de ceux alloués dans le cadre de la politique agricole commune. Dans ce contexte, le président Klaus Iohannis a affirmé que la flexibilité entre les fonds était très importante pour la Roumanie et quil serait préférable que le fonds censé faciliter la transition vers une économie plus verte soit séparé de celui de cohésion.


    Cette rencontre s’inscrit dans la série dentrevues que le responsable européen a eues cette semaine avec les leaders de plusieurs Etats membres concernant le budget sur le long terme de l’UE, plus précisément pour l’intervalle 2021-2027. Alors que la Commission européenne et le Parlement européen réclament une hausse des contributions des pays membres après le divorce de Londres, les représentants de certains Etats communautaires souhaitent la diminution du budget européen. Toujours vendredi, le président Klaus Iohannis a rencontré la commissaire européenne aux Transports, Adina Vălean.



    Patriot — L’armée roumaine a démarré la formation des personnels qui vont opérer avec des simulateurs d’instruction RT-3, dont elle s’est récemment dotée. Cette formation est censée préparer l’entrée en service du système de missiles sol-air à longue portée Patriot. Le premier système de ce type, des 7 déjà achetés – quatre pour les Forces aériennes et trois pour les Forces terrestres – sera en dotation dans les Forces aériennes dans la seconde moitié de l’année en cours. Jusqu’à présent, plus de 50 militaires des Forces aériennes roumaines ont suivi, aux Etats-Unis, des cours de manipulation et maintenance du système Patriot, a fait savoir le ministère de la Défense de Bucarest. Le système Patriot est censé assurer à la Roumanie la capacité de défense antiaérienne essentielle pour la sécurité de l’espace aérien national, partie intégrante de l’espace aérien de l’OTAN. La Roumanie s’est dotée de la version la plus récente des systèmes Patriot actuellement en service, testés dans les combats et capables de contrer tous les types de menaces aériennes actuelles.



    Grippe — En Roumanie, cinq nouveau décès dus à la grippe ont été confirmé vendredi. Au total, 23 personnes sont mortes depuis le début de cette saison grippale, a fait- savoir le Centre de veille et de contrôle des maladies transmissibles. Toutes soufraient d’autres affections médicales aussi et n‘étaient pas vaccinées contre la grippe. Jeudi, les autorités roumaines ont déclaré officiellement l’épidémie de grippe, pour la deuxième année de suite. Cela parque ce que, cette semaine, on a enregistré une hausse de 99% du nombre de cas par rapport au total estimé. Le bilan actuel des cas confirmé s’élève à 7 mille. En 2019, l’épidémie de grippe a causé près de 200 décès en Roumanie.



    Coronavirus — Le bilan des décès dus au coronavirus d’est alourdi à 637. En Chine le nombre des cas confirmés a dépassé les 31 mille. Près de 320 cas ont été rapportés dans 27 autres pays et régions hors de Chine continentale. Deux décès ont été enregistrés en Hong Kong et aux Philippines. A Hong Kong, 3600 passagers et membres d’équipage d’un navire sont bloqués à bord depuis trois jours après que trois personnes ont contracté le coronavirus. Même situation pour les passagers d’un navire de croisière resté en quarantaine dans la mer du Japon. Sur leur total, 41 ont été contaminés par le coronavirus, tandis que les autres se sont vu conseiller de rester dans leurs cabines. Vendredi, le nombre de cas confirmés s’élevait à 61.     Tennis — La ville de Cluj Napoca, dans le nord-ouest de la Roumanie, accueille les matches opposant les équipes roumaine et russe de Fed Cup, au tableau du Groupe mondial. La Roumaine Elena Gabriela Ruse, 166ème dans le classement mondial, a été vaincue vendredi par Ekaterina Alexandrova, 28ème dans le classement WTA. Simona Halep, Irina Begu et Monica Niculescu ont décliné l’invitation de rejoindre l’équipe roumaine pour pouvoir se concentrer sur les tournois mondiaux censés leur permettre la qualification aux Jeux olympiques de Tokyo. L’enjeu des matches disputés à Cluj est la qualification pour le tournoi final qui aura lieu à Budapest du 14 au 19 avril.

    Der rumänische Staatspräsident Klaus Iohannis hat den Vorsitzenden der National-Liberalen Partei PNL Ludovic Orban als Premierminister vorgeschlagen, nachdem er Beratungen mit Vertretern der Parlamentsfraktionen geführt hatte. Präsident Iohannis betonte erneut, seine erste Option sei die Rückkehr zur Wählerschaft durch das Organisieren von vorgezogenen Parlamentswahlen. Orban muß nun das Vertrauensvotum des Parlaments für sein neues Kabinett bekommen. Das von demselben Ludovic Orban geführte Regierungskabinett war durch einen Misstrauensantrag der Sozialdemokratischen Partei PSD und des Ungarnverbandes UDMR entlassen, nachdem die Regierung die Vertrauensfrage für die Rückkehr zur Bürgermeisterwahl in zwei Runden gestellt hatte. Gemäß der Verfassung wird der Kandidat für das Amt des Premierministers innerhalb von 10 Tagen nach seiner Ernennung das Vertrauensvotum des Parlaments zu dem Programm und der gesamten Liste der Regierung beantragen.



    Der rumänische Präsident Klaus Iohannis diskutierte am Freitag in Brüssel mit dem Präsidenten des Europäischen Rates Charles Michel Fragen zum künftigen Mehrjahreshaushalt, da die Union nach Brexit ohne einen der Hauptbeitragszahler blieb. Vor dem Treffen sagte Iohannis, er sei entschlossen, hart zu verhandeln, damit Rumänien so viel Geld wie möglich für den Kohäsionsfonds und die Gemeinsame Agrarpolitik erhält. Flexibilität zwischen den Fonds sei für Rumänien sehr wichtig, und der Übergangsfonds für eine grünere Wirtschaft sollte nicht Teil der Kohäsion sein, sondern zusätzlich, sagte Iohannis. Charles Michel beriet sich diese Woche mit mehreren Staats- und Regierungschefs über das langfristige Budget der EU für 2021-2027. Die Europäische Kommission und das Europäische Parlament haben eine Erhöhung der Beiträge der Mitgliedstaaten gefordert, um die von Großbritannien hinterlassene Lücke zu schließen, aber einige Nettozahlerländer würden im Gegenteil eine Reduzierung des Unionshaushalts wünschen. Ebenfalls am Freitag traf sich Präsident Iohannis mit der Europäischen Kommissarin für Verkehr, der Rumänin Adina Vălean.


    Der 45 Jahre alte Rumäne Tiberiu Uşeriu hat am Donnerstag den zweiten Platz beim Yukon Arctic Ultra-Ultramarathon in Kanada, nahe dem Polarkreis, belegt, nachdem er in 7 Tagen fast 500 Kilometer zurückgelegt hatte. Auf dem ersten Platz stand ein Schweizer. Die beiden waren die einzigen, die die Ziellinie überquerten, da die anderen 19 Teilnehmer aufgaben. Der Yukon Arctic Ultramarathon ist ein härterer Wettbewerb als der Ultramarathon 6633 Arctic Ultra, den Tiberiu Uşeriu drei Jahre in Folge gewonnen hat.     Die Gesamtzahl der Todesfälle durch das Coronavirus erreichte am Freitag 636, und die Zahl der Fälle in China überstieg 31.000. Der chinesische Arzt, der seit Dezember vor der bevorstehenden Epidemie gewarnt hatte, starb am Freitag an dem Virus, was eine Welle der Wut unter den Chinesen und Kritik an der Regierung auslöste, was in China äußerst selten geschieht. Fast 320 Fälle von Coronavirus-Infektion wurden in 27 weiteren Ländern und Regionen außerhalb des chinesischen Festlands gemeldet, zwei Todesfälle wurden aus Hongkong und den Philippinen gemeldet. In Hongkong werden 3.600 Passagiere und Besatzungsmitglieder seit dre Tagen auf einem Schiff festgehalten, nachdem drei Personen an Bord mit Coronavirus bestätigt wurden. Weitere 41 Personen auf einem Quarantäne-Kreuzfahrtschiff in Japan wurden am Freitag positiv auf Coronaviren getestet, wodurch sich die Gesamtzahl der bestätigten Fälle auf 61 erhöhte. Tausende von Passagieren wurden im Zuge der weiteren Tests in den Kabinen isoliert. Unter den Personen auf diesem Schiff befinden sich 17 Rumänen, zwei Touristen und 15 Besatzungsmitglieder. Keiner von ihnen ist mit dem Coronavirus infiziert.



    Die rumänische Mannschaft des Fed-Cups spielt am Freitag und am Samstag in Klausenburg (Nordwesten) mit der russischen Mannschaft in der Weltgruppe. Heute trifft Elena Gabriela Ruse (166 WTA) auf Ekaterina Alexandrova (28. WTA), und Ana Bogdan (90 WTA) spielt gegen Veronika Kudermetova (38 WTA). In der rumänischen Mannschaft sind die Tennisspielerinnen Simona Halep, Irina Begu und Monica Niculescu nicht dabei, die sich auf die WTA-Turniere konzentrieren, um sich für die Olympischen Spiele in Tokio zu qualifizieren. Die Fed-Cup-Spiele werden für die Qualifikation für das Finalturnier in Budapest vom 14. bis 19. April ausgetragen.     In Rumänien ist das Wetter kalt, und der Himmel ist in den meisten Regionen vorübergehend bewölkt. Die Niederschläge sind im Allgemeinen gering, vorwiegend in Form von Schnee, lokal im Zentrum und Südosten des Landes und isoliert in den übrigen Regionen. Im Gebirge schneit es, und es weht ein mittlerer bis starker Wind. Die Höchsttemperaturen liegen zwischen -2 und +8 Grad Celsius. In den Südkarpaten und in den Ostkarpaten gilt bis morgen Wetterralarm Stufe gelb für starken Wind vonn über 70 km/h und Schneeverwehungen. Nach dem Schneesturm von Mittwochabend auf Donnerstag haben mehrere Dutzend Orte immer noch keinen Strom, die meisten aus dem Südosten. Es gibt auch Schulen, vor allem aus den Dörfern, die heute noch geschlossen sind. Das schlechte Wetter führte zur Annullierung einiger Züge, zur Einschränkung des Verkehrs auf mehreren Straßen und zur Schließung von Häfen am Schwarzen Meer.

    NOMINATION – Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis on
    Thursday designated Liberal Ludovic Orban as Prime Minister following
    consultations with parliamentary parties. The previous Orban Cabinet was
    removed from office on Wednesday after it did not survive a censure motion
    filed by the Social-Democratic Party and the Democratic Union of Ethnic
    Hungarians. The motion was triggered by the Government’s choice to take
    responsibility over the return to the two-round local election system.
    President Iohannis says his main option is to let voters decide by organizing
    early legislative elections. After consultations with the President, the
    National Liberal Party and Save Romania Union also shared the president’s
    option. The Social-Democratic Party and Pro Romania Party nominated Remus
    Pricopie, a former minister. The Democratic Union of Ethnic Hungarians did not
    nominate a candidate and said they would not support the Social-Democrats’
    candidate. The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats didn’t nominate a candidate
    either, although they agreed to holding early elections. The People’s Movement
    Party on Sunday will decide whether it supports early legislative elections.




    EPPO -
    European Chief prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi on Thursday addressed the
    European Parliament, calling for an increase in the budget of the European
    Public Prosecutor’s Office. It is estimated some 2,000 new cases will be
    investigated in the first year of activity. Kovesi said the main two parameters
    to be defined are the number of European delegate prosecutors in each Member
    State and the number of employees at the EPPO central in Luxembourg. The
    decision on the budget is not just for financial experts, but equally important
    to policians. Kovesi refered to a recent report estimating VAT fraud at EU
    level at around 60 billion euros every year. I think it is worth investing in
    the EPPO, Kovesi concluded.




    FED CUP -
    Romania will take on Russia in the Fed Cup on Friday and Saturday in Cluj.
    Elena Gabriela Ruse (166 WTA) will play Ekaterina Alexandrova (28 WTA) in the
    first singles match. In the second match on Friday, Ana Bogdan (90 WTA) will
    play Veronika Kudermetova (38 WTA). On Saturday, Ana Bogdan will play Ekaterina
    Alexandrova, while in the last singles match Elena Gabriela Ruse will take on
    Veronika Kudermetova. The doubles match will pit the pair made up of Irina Bara
    (98 WTA) and Raluca Olaru (47 WTA) against Ana Blinkova (63 WTA) and Ana Kalinskaya
    (95 WTA). The match will decide which team qualifies to the final tournament in
    Budapest, to be held over Aril 14-19. Simona Halep, world no. 2, will not
    represent Romania in the Fed Cup this year, as she has begun preparing for the
    Olympic Games in Tokyo this year. Romania has never played Russia in the Fed
    Cup before, although it played the USSR twice, losing both games.




    FLU VIRUS -
    Romania has reported a 99% increase in the number of flu virus infections in
    the past week, and the authorities have declared a flu epidemic, for the second
    year in a row. The number of flu infections has exceeded 7,000, and a total of
    18 people have been killed by the virus, the National Center for Surveillance
    and Control of Communicable Diseases reports. The latest victims are a 1 and a
    half year-old child and a 49-year-old woman. Both had a medical history and had
    not taken the anti-flu shot.




    CORONAVIRUS
    – A ship with 17 Romanians on board has been quarantined in the Japanese port
    of Yokohama, after several cases of cornoavirus infections were reported, the
    Foreign Ministry in Bucharest has announced. According to the same sources, the
    Romanian embassy in Tokyo has been notified by the Foreign Ministry in Japan.
    Out of the Romanians on board, two are tourists and 15 crew members. Romania’s
    consulate in Hong Kong has asked for information from the local authorities on
    the situation of the Romanians on board of a ship moored in that port. No case
    of coronoavirus infection has been reported in Romania so far.




    WEATHER – A
    code yellow alert is in place until Saturday morning against heavy snowfalls
    and blizzards targeting the north, center and east, with strong wind expected
    in the mountains. The recent snowfalls and blizzards affected most of Romania’s
    territory, disrupting road, rail and air traffic and causing blackouts, with
    several school having been shut down.

    S-a încheiat, duminică, prima competiţie
    majoră din tenisul mondial – Openul Australiei. La feminin s-a impus, în
    premieră, jucătoarea americană Sofia Kenin, iar la masculin a triumfat, pentru
    a opta oară, sârbul Novak Djokovic. Românca Simona Halep a ajuns, pentru a doua
    oară în carieră, în semifinale. Ea a ratat însă accesul în finală în faţa
    sportivei spaniole Garbine Muguruza. Simona s-a ales cu 1.040.000 de dolari australieni şi 780 de puncte WTA,
    urcând pe locul 2 în clasamentul mondial.


    La sfârşitul
    acestei săptămâni revine în actualitate Fed Cup, competiţia internaţională a
    echipelor feminine. România întâlneşte, vineri şi sâmbătă, la Cluj, echipa
    Rusiei, în Grupa Mondială. Meciul contează pentru calificarea la turneul final
    al Fed Cup, care va avea loc la Budapesta, între 14 şi 19 aprilie.


    Pentru această
    întâlnire, din echipa României lipsesc Simona Halep, Irina Begu şi Monica
    Niculescu. Ele au renunţat la convocare pentru a se concentra pe turneele WTA
    în vederea calificării la Jocurile Olimpice de la Tokio. În aceste condiţii,
    căpitanul nejucător al României, Florin Segărceanu, a convocat pentru partida
    cu Rusia următoarele jucătoare: Ana Bogdan, numărul 90 mondial, Irina Bara,
    locul 160 în ierarhia WTA, Gabriela Ruse,
    locul 166, Jaqueline Cristian, locul 197 WTA şi Raluca Olaru, numărul 47 WTA la
    dublu. Irina Bara, Gabriela Ruse şi Jaqueline Cristian au fost nominalizate în
    premieră în lotul de Fed Cup al României.


    Să mai notăm că România
    nu a întâlnit niciodată Rusia în Fed Cup, dar a avut două confruntări cu URSS, în
    1978, la Melbourne, în sferturile Grupei Mondiale, şi în 1986, la Praga, în
    turul al doilea al Grupei Mondiale. Ambele au fost
    pierdute.
