    TALKS In a recent
    phone call Romanian president Klaus Iohannis has assured his Ukrainian
    counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky about the continuation of Romania’s staunch
    support for Ukraine. Iohannis has again condemned the latest intensified Russian
    attacks against Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure. The two heads of state have
    also talked about the development of the bilateral relations and the priorities
    for the year 2024 mainly the cross-border projects of mutual interest and the
    common will to substantially advance in the process of establishing a Strategic
    Partnership between the two countries. In another development, the Romanian president
    has hailed the progress made by Ukraine who admitted there is no such thing as
    the Moldovan language, a syntagm coined in the former Soviet Union and has underlined
    the importance of observing the rights of the national minorities.






    AWARD The
    president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, will come to Romania late
    this week to be given the ‘Timisoara for European Values’ award. Sandu is the
    first recipient of the aforementioned award, which was established last year,
    when the city of Timisoara, in western Romania, was designated the European
    capital of culture. The aforementioned prize is awarded to high officials who
    are known to have promoted or defended European values. According to mayor
    Dominic Fritz, president Sandu has been nominated for the clear vision
    regarding her country’s European accession and her commitment to reaching this
    goal.




    PLAN The
    Romanian government should adopt a decision by the end of this month for the
    implementation of the National Plan to combat school violence and drug use.
    Students will attend health education courses and will be able to be tested
    with the parents’ consent for drug use, according to the National School Safety
    Plan. Compared to the measures applied so far, the document provides for the
    establishment of action groups at the level of each pre-university education
    unit, which will include specialists from the institutions that have undertaken
    this program. The aim is to combat the trafficking and consumption of
    psychoactive substances in schools, stop bullying, but also violent crimes. The
    pre-university education law obliges school principals to report cases of
    violence against students to the national number 119, and minors involved in
    such acts, together with their parents, must attend counseling sessions. In
    case of a refusal, the provision can be applied by court decision.




    WINTER The
    cold weather is expected to last for a couple of days in some regions of
    Romania, mainly in the country’s north, east and center. The highs of the day
    on Wednesday will be between -6 and +4 degrees, with a noon reading in
    Bucharest of 3 degrees Celsius. The cold weather in the last couple of days has
    affected the eastern regions of Romania, where several localities have been left
    without electricity. Authorities have temporarily closed traffic on several
    sections of the national road. Railway traffic has also been disrupted. In Iaşi
    county (northeast), after the heavy snow and blizzard on Monday, authorities have
    agreed to keep schools, high schools and kindergartens closed. Activity has also
    been suspended in some educational centers across the country.

    QUAKE Romania stands
    by Japan in these difficult moments, the country’s president, Klaus Iohannis,
    said in a message which he conveyed on Tuesday along with condolences for the
    victims’ families. We recall that authorities in that country are in a
    battle against time in their attempt to find survivors after the 7.6 magnitude
    earthquake on Monday, which was followed by many aftershocks. According to
    provisional tolls, scores have been killed and hundreds of buildings destroyed.
    Numerous fires caused by broken pipelines have been reported in the north of
    the Noto peninsula, close to the quake’s epicenter. With sub-zero temperatures
    at night, rescuers are making great efforts to find survivors.






    WEATHER
    According to sources with the Environment Ministry, 2023 was the hottest year
    in the history of Romania’s weather forecasts. The average temperature stood at
    12.5 degrees centigrade, two degrees above the average of the period between
    1981 and 2010. At the same time, the 2012-2023 interval becomes the hottest
    period in the country’s history of weather forecasts. Last Christmas also
    proved to be the hottest since the beginning of weather monitoring in Romania
    with 21 degrees centigrade at Calafat, in the south. And according to
    Copernicus Climate Change Service, 2023 was also the hottest in Europe, where
    experts have again been cautioning against the ongoing global warming, as the
    greenhouse gas emissions are growing. According to Romania’s Environment
    Minister, Mircea Fechet, this means that the extreme weather phenomena will
    increase in frequency and intensity causing more damage and killing more
    people.




    PRICE HIKES The new year has brought a
    series of fiscal amendments to Romanians, ranging from new VAT rises to other
    majored excises and taxes. Fines have also been raised, and companies reporting
    over 50 million euros in turnover will be paying taxes of at least one percent
    of their turnover. Tobacco excises have been raised and so has the VAT, which
    stands between 9 and 19 % in certain products and services. A special tax has
    been introduced for expensive goods, such as houses or cars, and authorities
    have also raised excises for sweet products. Fuel excises are also getting
    higher while experts believe the new fiscal measures will translate into a
    higher inflation rate and a local currency that depreciates against the Euro.
    Romania’s budget deficit this year has been estimated at 5% of the GDP with an
    economic growth of 3.4%. 7% of the country’s GDP has been earmarked for
    investment.






    GAZA Israel has pulled out its
    tanks from some parts of the Gaza city announcing a new stage in its war
    against the terrorist group Hamas. The new change in Israel’s tactics involves
    the partial pull out of its troops from the Gaza Strip and an increased focus
    on smaller-scale targeted operations. Israel says one of the key objectives is
    the complete elimination of the Hamas threat and the release of the hostages
    still kept by the famous terrorist group. According to Radio Romania
    correspondent in Israel, the attempts to release the Israeli hostages, which
    seemed to be compromised at a certain point, have these days been given a fresh
    impetus thanks to the mediation efforts of Qatar and Egypt. The war in Gaza,
    which broke out after the attack on Israel masterminded and conducted by the
    terrorist group Hamas on October 7, when 12 hundred people were killed and 240
    kidnapped, has so far caused the death of roughly 22 thousand Palestinians in
    the Gaza Strip. At the same time, most of the region’s 2.3 million people
    residents has been displaced.

    Romania is a stable, democratic, secure and pro-European country, a reliable partner for our foreign allies, acting President Klaus Iohannis said in his New Year message. He recalls that, in 2024, Romania made significant economic progress, reduced the gaps in relation to the other European Union member states and achieved important objectives, such as full accession to the Schengen free movement area, and the elimination of visas for the United States. The living standards and incomes continued to increase in 2024, although the external context was not at all simple, the acting president also said.

     

    He acknowledged that, amid justified dissatisfaction at society level, the country is in a watershed moment. “To overcome it successfully, we need to strengthen solidarity and regain trust in the political class,” Iohannis said. Only if we preserve our democracy and the values ​​that have defined us as an authentic part of the European family will we get through this difficult stage, he said, adding that “the political class must show that they learned the lesson of 2024 and respond with concrete and rapid measures to the needs of society.” Together, we can keep Romania on its pro-Western path, guided by the fundamental principles and values ​​that define us – justice, freedom and democracy – the Romanian President concluded.

     

    On December 21, 2024, Klaus Iohannis’s second and last five-year presidential term, which the Constitution entitles him to, was due to expire. However, his mandate was extended until the election of a new head of state, to be validated by the Constitutional Court.

Am reuşit să menţinem o guvernare stabilă care a continuat să modernizeze marile sisteme publice, de la educaţie, la sănătate, la infrastructură şi administraţie”



    Totodată, președintele Iohannis a îndemnat românii să meargă la vot în 2024 și să primească noul an cu speranță:


    Finalul de an este şi o bună ocazie pentru a privi spre viitor cu optimism şi încredere. Avem un uriaş potenţial de dezvoltare, iar anul electoral 2024 ne va pune în faţa unor opţiuni care vor marca destinul ţării noastre. De aceea, pentru a reuşi să transformăm România în ţara pe care ne-o dorim, este vital să ne exercităm dreptul de vot la toate rundele de alegeri care vor urma. Să întâmpinăm aşadar anul 2024 cu speranţă şi cu convingerea că împreună putem depăşi orice obstacol. În acest spirit al unităţii şi al solidarităţii, vă urez tuturor un an nou cu sănătate, plin de bucurii şi împliniri! La mulţi ani!”

    Aprobate pe 15 decembrie de Executiv și, cinci zile mai târziu, printr-o procedură accelerată, de Legislativ, Legea bugetului de stat și Legea bugetului asigurărilor sociale de stat pe anul 2024 au fost promulgate joi de președintele Klaus Iohannis.


    Inflaţia şi menţinerea echilibrelor macroeconomice sunt provocările principale ale anului viitor, declara premierul, în plenul reunit al Parlamentului, atunci când a prezentat proiectul bugetului de stat pe 2024, construit, potrivit lui Marcel Ciolacu, astfel încât să asigure creşterea bunăstării cetăţenilor.

    Direcţiile strategice pe care se bazează acest buget sunt, spunea premierul – o strategie economică coerentă pentru a atinge anul viitor a doua cea mai mare creştere economică din Uniunea Europeană, investiţii record, creşterea veniturilor pentru 12 milioane de români, inclusiv pentru pensionari, un mediu economic mai puternic prin accesarea schemelor de ajutor pentru dezvoltare şi crearea de noi locuri de muncă. Dar, în acelaşi timp, pentru a avea un mediu economic echitabil, cu adevărat concurenţial, cu mai puţine scutiri şi facilităţi fiscale, un plan coerent de ordonare a cheltuielilor bugetare şi un pachet de măsuri de creştere a colectării şi combatere a eficientă a evaziunii fiscale, alături de o garanţie fermă pentru securitatea cetăţenilor în contextul războiului de la graniţă, prin alocarea unui buget de 2,5% din PIB pentru Apărare.

    Este un buget calibrat cu atenţie, pentru a atenua presiunile inflaţioniste, susține Marcel Ciolacu. La fel ca în acest an, vom avea o economie care va creşte pe investiţii, nu pe consum, iar pentru aceasta am decis să prioritizăm investiţiile, care vor aduce jumătate din creşterea economică şi vor avea o rată de creştere dublă faţă de cea a consumului, a explicat premierul, în condițiile în care în matricea construcției bugetare de anul viitor un loc special îl au investițiile, situate la o valoare de circa 7% din Produsul Intern Brut.

    Iar pentru a nu mai arunca bani pe zeci de mii de proiecte începute şi niciodată realizate, pentru 2024 au fost selectate peste 150 de proiecte de investiţii importante, dintre care 108 la Transporturi şi Infrastructură, 21 la Ministerul Dezvoltării, 13 la Mediu, nouă la Sănătate.

    Pe lângă infrastructură, celelalte două domenii strategice în care se va investi masiv în 2024 vor fi Educaţia şi Sănătatea. Creșterea economică prevăzută este de 3,4%, în timp ce deficitul bugetar este estimat la 5% din PIB.


    Opoziţia a criticat, însă, construcția bugetară. Nerealist, construit pe cifre false, fără viziune, proiectul de buget nu asigură o dezvoltare a României, spun reprezentanții partidelor de opoziție. După calculele lor, în urma supraestimării veniturilor și a subestimărilor cheltuielilor, deficitul bugetar va depăși 7% din PIB, adică nu va rezulta o consolidare fiscală, ci dimpotrivă.

    România susţine ferm deschiderea negocierilor de aderare la Uniunea Europeană ale Republicii Moldova – a reiterat președintele Klaus Iohannis. Într-o postare pe o rețea de socializare, șeful statului a anunțat că a avut o convorbire telefonică cu președintele moldovean, Maia Sandu, pe cele mai importante teme europene, cu accent pe pregătirea deciziilor privind Republica Moldova la Consiliul European de săptămâna aceasta.


    Klaus Iohannis participă, zilele acestea, la Bruxelles, la summituri europene, context în care va susţine luarea unor decizii privind deschiderea negocierilor de aderare la UE cu Ucraina şi Republica Moldova, care au de anul trecut statutul de ţară-candidat. Potrivit lui Klaus Iohannis, Uniunea Europeană trebuie să-şi apropie şi să dea semne clare atât statelor din Balcanii de Vest, cât şi Ucrainei, Moldovei sau Georgiei, mai ales în condiţiile agresiunii lansate de Rusia.

    Recent, premierul de la Chişinău, Dorin Recean, admitea că este posibilă o eventuală amânare a deschiderii negocierilor de aderare a Republicii Moldova la Uniunea Europeană până în luna martie. El a insistat, însă, că amânarea deschiderii negocierilor ar fi o mare greşeală strategică, de care va profita Moscova.

    Într-o discuție telefonică cu premierul moldovean, primul ministru Marcel Ciolacu dădea asigurări că guvernul României va continua să susţină puternic parcursul european al Chișinăului. În contextul Consiliului European de la Bruxelles, el a subliniat sprijinul activ pe care România îl acordă Republicii Moldova pentru începerea procesului de negociere a aderării la Uniunea Europeană. Guvernul României va continua să susţină puternic parcursul european al Republicii Moldova şi să fie partener de încredere în întregul proces de aderare, a afirmat Marcel Ciolacu.

    De asemenea, în cadrul dialogului telefonic, au fost discutate proiectele de cooperare bilaterală, în special în domeniile interconexiunilor energetice transfrontaliere şi al asistenţei financiare pe care România o acordă pentru dezvoltarea Republicii Moldova.

    Tot pentru a sprijini statul vecin, cele două guverne au semnat un Memorandum de Înţelegere privind realizarea proiectelor necesare interconectării reţelelor de gaze naturale şi energie electrică. Astfel, potrivit ministrului Energiei, Sebastian Burduja, România va contribui decisiv la securitatea energetică a Republicii Moldova şi integrarea în piaţa de energie europeană. Prin acest Memorandum şi prin demersurile recente, Republica Moldova se integrează efectiv şi ireversibil în piaţa unică energetică europeană, în acelaşi timp, sporindu-şi securitatea energetică.


    La Bruxelles, Klaus Iohannis va susţine și acordarea statutului de candidat pentru Georgia, precum şi deschiderea negocierilor de aderare cu Bosnia şi Herţegovina. Bineînţeles, România va susţine apropierea şi integrarea acestor state pe baza meritelor şi criteriilor de aderare, iar aici Ucraina şi Moldova sunt de departe favoriţii pentru o decizie a Consiliului pentru începerea negocierilor de aderare, datorită reformelor făcute.

    Anlässlich des rumänischen Nationalfeiertags am 1. Dezember fand am Montag im Parlament in Bukarest eine feierliche Sitzung statt. Anwesend waren Vertreter der Führung der beiden Kammern und der Fraktionen, Mitglieder der Regierung, Vertreter der religiösen Kulte in Rumänien und Mitglieder des diplomatischen Korps. Aus diesem Anlass wurde vor dem Plenarsaal der Abgeordnetenkammer eine Bronzebüste des großen rumänischen Vorkriegspolitikers Iuliu Maniu aufgestellt. Seit Freitag feiern das Land, die benachbarte Republik Moldau (mehrheitlich rumänischsprachig) und die Diaspora den 1. Dezember 1918, an dem am Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs alle Provinzen mit mehrheitlich rumänischer Bevölkerung unter die Herrschaft von Bukarest gestellt wurden. Damals stimmten in Alba Iulia die Vertreter der Rumänen von Siebenbürgen (Zentrum), Banat, Maramures und Crișana (Westen) für die Vereinigung dieser bis dahin von Österreich-Ungarn besetzten Gebiete mit dem Königreich Rumänien. Zuvor, am 28. November, hatte der Allgemeine Kongress der Bukowina (Nordosten), einer weiteren von den Habsburgern annektierten Provinz, einen ähnlichen Beschluss gefasst. Am 27. März 1918, mitten in der Auflösung des Zarenreichs, hatte der Landesrat in Chisinau bereits für die Vereinigung Bessarabiens mit Rumänien gestimmt.



    Der rumänische Premierminister Marcel Ciolacu und die ihn bei seinem offiziellen Besuch in den Vereinigten Staaten begleitenden Minister haben am Montag an einer Kranzniederlegung auf dem Friedhof Arlington in Washington teilgenommen. Marcel Ciolacu wird auch mit den Ko-Vorsitzenden der Freundschaftsgruppe mit Rumänien im Repräsentantenhaus und später mit Vertretern von Google und der United States Energy Association zusammentreffen. Vertreter der Verwaltung in Bukarest unterzeichneten die Verpflichtung der UN-Rahmenkonvention über den Klimawandel COP 28, die in den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten stattfindet. Die Energiesicherheit Rumäniens werde mit dem Beitritt zur Internationalen Solarallianz zunehmen, erklärte der rumänische Präsident Klaus Iohannis bei dieser Gelegenheit. Im Rahmen seiner Rede in Dubai bekräftigte das rumänische Staatsoberhaupt die feste Verpflichtung Rumäniens, kohlenstoffneutral zu werden, unter anderem durch die Nutzung erneuerbarer Energiequellen. Klaus Iohannis traf mit dem Sonderbeauftragten des US-Präsidenten für Klimafragen, John Kerry, zu einem Dialog über die Erweiterung der Komponente Klimawandel, Umwelt und grüner Übergang der strategischen Partnerschaft zwischen Rumänien und den Vereinigten Staaten zusammen.



    Die israelischen Sicherheitskräfte setzen ihre Bodenoffensive im südlichen Gazastreifen fort, nachdem das einwöchige Waffenstillstandsabkommen ausgelaufen ist. Die Armee hat eine Bodenoperation in Richtung Khan Younis, der zweitgrößten Stadt des Gazastreifens begonnen und die Bewohner aufgefordert, die Stadt unverzüglich zu verlassen. Die israelischen Behörden gehen davon aus, dass sich Mitglieder der Hamas-Führung in der Stadt unter den Hunderttausenden von Flüchtlingen aus dem Norden verstecken. 
Der Chef des Innengeheimdienstes, Ronen Bar, sagte, Israel werde nach dem Anschlag vom 7. Oktober, bei dem mehr als 1 200 Menschen getötet und Hunderte entführt wurden, die Islamisten jagen, wo immer sie sich aufhalten und wie lange es auch immer dauern mag. Er zog auch einen Vergleich mit dem Massaker an israelischen Sportlern bei den Olympischen Spielen in München 1972, als die palästinensische Terrororganisation Schwarzer September 11 Mitglieder der Delegation tötete. Die Täter wurden 20 Jahre später liquidiert. Unterdessen erklärt die Hamas, sie werde nur dann über die Freilassung weiterer israelischer Geiseln sprechen, wenn es einen dauerhaften Waffenstillstand gibt.



    Die rumänische Handballnationalmannschaft der Frauen hat am Sonntagabend in Dänemark in der Gruppe E der Weltmeisterschaft das Team aus Serbien mit 37 zu 28 Toren besiegt. Die Rumäninnen, die auch ihr erstes Spiel gegen Chile mit 44 zu 19 Toren gewannen, haben sich bereits für die Hauptgruppen der Weltmeisterschaft qualifiziert. Am Dienstagabend treffen sie in ihrem letzten Spiel der Gruppe E auf Dänemark. Der Star der rumänischen Nationalmannschaft, Cristina Neagu, die viermal zur besten Handballspielerin der Welt gewählt wurde, stand bislang noch nicht auf dem Spielfeld.

    Prezenţa a
    numeroşi lideri guvernamentali şi de companii specializate în energie a validat
    importanţa Convenţiei Cadru a Naţiunilor Unite privind Schimbările Climatice,
    care a fost gazduită, timp de trei zile, în Dubai, Emiratele Arabe Unite.


    România a fost reprezentată la cel mai înalt nivel. În prima sa intervenţie, preşedintele
    Klaus Iohannis a declarat că România are unele dintre cele mai scăzute emisii
    de gaze cu efect de seră pe cap de locuitor din Uniunea Europeană şi este ferm
    angajată să accelereze măsurile de atenuare a schimbărilor climatice.

    Ne
    propunem, a subliniat liderul de la Bucureşti, să ne reducem până în 2030
    emisiile cu aproximativ 80% faţă de nivelul din 1990 şi să ne îndreptăm apoi
    într-un ritm rapid către neutralitatea climatică. Până cel târziu în 2050,
    mixul energetic naţional al României va fi format în proporţie de 86% din
    energie regenerabilă, completat de energie cu emisii reduse de carbon, cum ar
    fi energia nucleară, a transmis şeful statului în cadrul Summitului Global
    privind Acţiunea Climatică.


    Duminică, România s-a alăturat Alianţei Solare
    Internaţionale, gest care, potrivit lui Iohannis, va contribui la creşterea
    securităţii energetice naţionale şi confirmă angajamentul ferm al ţării de a deveni neutră
    din punctul de vedere al emisiilor de carbon, inclusiv prin utilizarea surselor
    regenerabile de energie. Până în 2030, România îşi propune să instaleze o
    capacitate de energie solară de peste 8 gigawaţi, reprezentând 24% din consumul
    final brut de energie electrică din surse regenerabile. Faptul că românii sunt
    deschişi şi susţin noile tehnologii de generare a electricităţii e demonstrat
    de cei aproximativ 100.000 de conaţionali prosumatori, care au instalat peste
    1,2 gigawaţi de surse de energie distribuită conectate la reţea, majoritatea
    covârşitoare bazându-se pe tehnologia solară fotovoltaică.


    România are cel mai
    mare potenţial solar din sud-estul Europei, studiile arătând că ar putea
    exploata până la 18-20 de gigawaţi de putere solară    , a declarat, la rândul său,
    ministrul Energiei, Sebastian Burduja.


    Pe de altă parte, în Dubai a fost lansată
    Declaraţia privind triplarea capacităţii de energie nucleară la nivel mondial. Facilităţile
    energetice nucleare funcţionează în România de aproape trei decenii la standarde
    înalte de productivitate şi siguranţă, aşa că pot spune că avem o experienţă
    naţională consistentă în acest domeniu, a afirmat, cu acest prilej,
    preşedintele României.


    Bucureştiul, a subliniat el, consideră energia nucleară
    ca fiind o sursă stabilă de energie, care contribuie la securitatea energetică
    şi la decarbonizare. România se angajează să finalizeze două noi unităţi CANDU
    la Centrala de la Cernavodă şi să construiască şi să implementeze
    reactoare modulare mici.


    Subiectul a fost reluat la întâlnirea pe care Klaus
    Iohannis a avut-o, în marginea conferinţei climatice, cu reprezentantul Special
    al Preşedintelui SUA pentru Climă, John Kerry.

    COP28 – Romania’s president Klaus Iohannis on Saturday said on the
    sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai that Romania has one of
    the lowest carbon gas emissions per capita at EU level, and is firmly committed
    to accelerating measures to curb the effects of climate change through a mix of
    renewable and nuclear energy. Romania seeks to reduce its carbon footprint by
    80% by 2030 and then move swiftly to become climate neutral, the president
    added. 118 states signed a resolution expressing their commitment to triple
    their renewable energy capacity by 2030. Over 20 states, including Romania,
    also called for the tripling of nuclear energy capabilities, also as a
    countermeasure to global warming. 50 corporations accounting for 40% of total
    global production of oil and gas pledged to decarbonize their extractive
    operations and reduce their methane emissions to zero by 2050.




    VISIT – Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu is paying an official visit
    to the United States over December 3-6. He will be accompanied by a delegation
    comprising the ministers of Defense, Foreign Affairs and the Economy. The visit
    is designed to advance joint economic projects, boost American investment in
    Romania and consolidate political and security cooperation with the USA. On
    Sunday, Marcel Ciolacu is expected to meet representatives of Romanian
    communities in Washington, Virginia and Maryland. On Monday, the Romanian Prime
    Minister will meet Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and State Secretary Antony
    Blinken. Marcel Ciolacu will also discuss with Jennifer Granholm, US Secretary
    of Energy. The Prime Minister’s agenda also includes meetings with
    representatives of Lockheed Martin and Google, Roland S. Lauder, the chairman
    of the World Jewish Congress and Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General.




    WAR IN GAZA – Israeli
    authorities have notified the Romanian Foreign Ministry about the death of a
    person of Romanian and Israeli citizenship, held hostage by Hamas in Gaza. The
    Foreign Ministry has conveyed its condolences to the family, announcing that
    another 3 people with double citizenship are being held hostage in the Strip.
    The Ministry has called for the release of all hostages. Israel has resumed its
    bombing of positions held by Hamas in Gaza, after a 7-day ceasefire that
    allowed the release of 100 people held hostage by Hamas in exchange for 180
    Palestinian prisoners. The Israeli army announced it has bombed over 200
    terrorist targets. In turn, Gaza authorities say 200 people were killed and 600
    were wounded in air raids. Humanitarian aid was again blocked on the border,
    and shootings with Hezbollah were reported on Israel’s northern border. Israel
    and Hamas have accused each other of violating the ceasefire, but according to
    Radio Romania’s correspondent in the region, both sides continue to negotiate a
    new humanitarian ceasefire.




    HANDBALL – Romania won its
    first match at the World Handball Championships, beating Chile 44-19 in
    Herning, Denmark. In the same group, Denmark defeated Serbia 25-21. Romania
    will next play Serbia on December 3 and Denmark on December 5. The top three teams in each group will advance to the
    so-called main group stage. Romania is the only team that has taken part in all
    26 editions of the World Handball Championship, a competition it won once in
    1962. Romania played another two finals in 1973 and 2005, and came in third in

    cooperation with oil companies.

    TRAIN – The first of a
    series of 37 electric trains built by Alstom is expected to arrive in Romania
    on Saturday, the Rail Reform Authority has announced. This is the first
    electric train bought in the last 40 years and the first new train after a
    break of 20 years. The train will enter the testing phase on December 6, which
    comprises 10,000 km in the local circuit before being rendered operational. The
    37 electric regional trains were bought with EU funds and will link Bucharest
    to the main urban centers of Romania.

Până cel târziu în 2050, mixul energetic naţional al României va fi format în proporţie de 86% din energie regenerabilă, completat de energie cu emisii reduse de carbon, cum ar fi energia nucleară, a transmis preşedintele român Klaus Iohannis, sâmbătă, la summitul climatic al ONU de la Dubai.

    Subliniind legătura dintre acţiunea climatică, educaţie şi dezvoltarea competenţelor verzi, şeful statului român a dat exemplul programului REPowerEU, arătând că acesta aduce la nivel naţional două miliarde de euro în investiţii pentru energie regenerabilă şi dezvoltarea competenţelor verzi.

    Marea majoritate a tinerilor din România consideră că acumularea de cunoştinţe despre schimbările climatice în şcoală este esenţială pentru implicarea lor în acţiuni climatice. Prin urmare, educaţia privind clima şi mediul devine din ce în ce mai importantă în programa şcolară din România, a afirmat Iohannis.

    România este foarte implicată alături de partenerii săi globali, inclusiv din Africa, Orientul Mijlociu şi America Latină, pentru a facilita formarea şi schimbul de experienţă în ceea ce priveşte gestionarea situaţiilor de urgenţă şi implementarea sistemelor de alertă timpurie, deoarece aceste domenii sunt din ce în ce mai importante în contextul efectelor devastatoare ale schimbărilor climatice, a mai spus şeful statului.

    NATIONAL
    DAY – December 1 marks the National Day of Romania, celebrating 105
    years since the unification of Romanian principalities into a single state. On
    December 1, at the end of the Great War, representatives of Romanians from
    Transylvania (center), Banat, Maramureș and
    Crișana (west), voted in favor of the unification with the Kingdom of
    Romania, thus breaking with the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Previously, on
    November 28, a similar decision was taken by the General Congress of Bukovina,
    another province that was previously ruled by the Habsburgs. On March 27, 1918,
    after the collapse of the Russian Empire, the People’s Gathering of Bessarabia
    also voted the unification with Romania. In the summer of 1940, following an
    ultimatum, the USSR annexed both Bessarabia and northern Bukovina, today parts
    of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, respectively.




    PARADE – Over
    2,400 military and specialists with the Defense Ministry, the Interior
    Ministry, the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Special Telecommunications
    Service and the Penitentiary Administration took part on Friday in a special
    military parade marking the National Day of Romania. 250 foreign military from
    Belgium, France, North Macedonia, the Republic of Moldova, Luxembourg, Poland,
    Portugal, Spain, the USA and the Netherlands also took part. 130 vehicles and 40 aircraft, in addition to
    23 types of military and air equipment used by allied participants were
    displayed in Bucharest.




    CONFERENCE – The UN Climate
    Change Conference hosted by Dubai in the UAE has launched with the historic
    decision to compensate poor countries most vulnerable to global warming.
    Attending the Conference are 140 heads of state and government, including
    president Klaus Iohannis.




    WAR IN
    GAZA – The ceasefire in Gaza expired on Friday morning, and the
    Israeli army has resumed its air raids and shelling targeting the positions of
    the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas. According to the so-called Hamas
    government, an air raid has killed six people in Rafah, while the Health
    Ministry has counted 32 people killed by Israeli bombing, including children.
    Negotiations had continued over the previous night for a new extension of the
    ceasefire, in place since November 24, yet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
    accused Hamas of violating the agreement and firing missiles on Israel. Eight
    Israeli hostages were released on Friday in exchange for 30 Palestinians
    detained by Israel.




    WAR IN UKRAINE – Kyiv announced
    Russian invasion forces bombed targets across the country on Thursday night,
    using kh-59 missiles and 25 Shahed 136/131 attack drones in the south.
    Ukrainian armed forces claimed to have shot down 18 drones and a missile. Kyiv
    has accused Moscow of planning a campaign of tactical air strikes targeting the
    energy infrastructure in the middle of winter. A similar operation last year
    left millions of Ukrainians without power and heat over long periods of time.
    Ukraine has since shored up its anti-air defenses with Western weapons,
    although authorities say it will take a while before being able to protect its
    most vulnerable regions.




    365 DAYS OF ROMANIA – Eight Romanian
    brands will live the American Dream in the iconic Times Square in New York
    starting December 1 and running through 2024 as part of the project titled 365
    Days of Romania in Times Square. The project enables Romanian brands to take
    part and share strong messages on the most iconic billboard in the world -
    Nasdaq, organizers say. The first brand to be presented in Times Square on
    December 1 is Arctic, the most powerful Romanian brand according to a survey conducted
    this year by Unlock Market Research & Biz. Other brands such as Romstal,
    Vola.ro, Aqua Carpatica, Bittnet Group, Eazy Insure, Metaminds, 5toGo will all
    start their advertising campaigns in 2024.




    HANDBALL -
