  • Two transmitters discontinued

    Two transmitters discontinued

Dear friends, the Radio Romania Board of
Administrators decided to temporarily suspend the use of 2 out of the 5
Radiocom shortwave transmitters that ensure the broadcast of Radio Romania
International programmes, because of budget cuts. As of August 1, our
programmes are aired via one transmitter in Ţigăneşti, one in Săftica (both of
them near Bucharest) and one in Galbeni (east). As soon as the budget of the
institution is restored, we will resume broadcasts on all 5 transmitters.

The RRI programmes in Romanian, English,
French, German, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Chinese and Hebrew are affected. All
of them may be received on only one frequency instead of 2, as of August 1,
2023. The frequencies as well as any other prospective changes operated by
Radiocom further to reception monitoring and to your feedback on reception
quality will be announced in our broadcasts, on our web page and on Facebook.

Budget restrictions also prompted a reduction
of the night time power of medium wave transmitters that broadcast Radio
Romania News and Current Affairs programmes and of some regional stations.

We invite you to follow RRI’s programmes online
at www.rri.ro (including on demand), on
SoundCloud, on Android and iOS apps, via TuneIn and via satellite. You can find
more details on our home page. You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter,

Broadcasting of RRI short wave programs is back on track

Dear friends, the short wave transmitter in Ţigăneşti, BD 300-1 near Bucharest is up and running. It has been out of order for several months and it’s now broadcasting RRI’s programs again. The transmitter has been repaired by RADIOCOM.

We are looking forward to receiving your feedback related to the quality of reception.

    Thank you!

  • Transmitter out of order

    Transmitter out of order

1 of the 5 short wave transmitters that beam RRI’s broadcasts is not working. The transmitter in Tiganesti, BD 300-1 near Bucharest, is still out of order. RADIOCOM, our broadcasting service provider, has announced that it will take up to several months to replace the broken components.

In exchange, another short wave transmitter, in Galbeni, in the northeast of Romania, ID 300-1, has been repaired and is currently working.

Due to the failure of the transmitter in Tiganesti, the digital broadcasting (standard DRM) of some RRI programs in English, French, German and Russian has also been disturbed. Meanwhile, we are kindly asking you to tune in for RRI’s short-wave broadcasts on the second frequency which we listed on the frequency schedule, as RRI usually broadcasts its programs on two frequencies to one target area. You’ll find the frequency schedule on RRI’s webpage www.rri.ro, under the ‘Frequencies’ button.

We are sorry for any inconvenience and hope the situation will be remedied soon!
