    PODGORICA During his formal visit to Montenegro on Wednesday, at the invitation of his counterpart Jakov Milatovic, Romania’s president Klaus Iohannis reiterated Romania’s staunch support for the EU enlargement process with the partners in the Western Balkans and the candidates from the eastern vicinity. The head of the Romanian state said that Montenegro had taken major steps in the negotiation process, its attachment to European values being also visible in its complete alignment with the EU’s common security and foreign policy. At the bilateral level, the two officials have reconfirmed the common readiness to contribute to boosting economic and sectorial cooperation, which may better reflect the potential of the political relations. The two sides have agreed to support a stronger presence of the Romanian companies in Montenegro, an increased number of contracts at the level of the business environment, particularly at the level of the small and medium size enterprises, supported by an effective and periodical dialogue between the authorities. The two officials have also underlined the interest in developing cooperation in various fields with a view to bringing tangible benefits for citizens, such as defence, internal affairs, tourism, energy and agriculture. President Milatovic thanked Romania for supporting Montenegro in its EU integration process and appreciated the visit, the first formal one, by a Romanian president since the country got its independence, which is a strong sign of friendship and partnership between the two countries.

     

    BUDGET MEPs are proposing a budget of roughly 201 billion euros for 2025. According to the project voted on Wednesday by the European Parliament, the budget will be focusing on research, healthcare, education and climate. The formula proposed by Parliament, a higher budget, which benefits the countries with lower contributions to the European budget, like Romania, which benefits from the fund distribution through the programmes of the EU policies. According to MEP Victor Negrescu, one of the two negotiators of the Legislature, who will join the final negotiation between Parliament and the Council, it is the support offered by the European Parliament to the programme devoted to border protection as well as the coordination of the social security system, which would allow the European Diaspora, including the Romanian one to easily transfer their rights and social benefits, including pensions, from one state to another.

     

    ELECTION On Wednesday, the US expressed its concern about Russia’s interference in the second round of the November 3 presidential election in the Republic of Moldova, a competition which is going to be very tight. The US is concerned that Russia will try, once again, to prevent the Moldovans from exercising their sovereign right to choose their own leaders, said the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, in a statement quoted by AFP. Washington has already denounced that Russia did everything in its power to disrupt the first round of the presidential election and last Sunday’s referendum, with the aim of undermining democracy in the small ex-Soviet Republic with a majority Romanian-speaking population, especially through illegal financing, vote buying, disinformation and malicious cyber activities. We remind you that the Moldovans approved by a tiny margin, with a little over 50% of the votes, amending the Constitution with a view to their country’s EU accession. At the same time, the current president, the pro-European Maia Sandu, ranked first, with 42.45% of the votes, in the first round of the presidential election, but she is preparing for a difficult second round, in which she will fight with the representative of the Socialist Party, Alexandr Stoianoglo, who obtained 25.98%.

     

    SALARY Romania’s Chamber of Deputies adopted, as a decision-making body, the draft law on the minimum wage. It transposes a European directive that aims to improve the working and living conditions of employees. The document stipulates that the minimum basic gross salary guaranteed to be paid should be established annually, through periodic updating, after consultations with the nationally-representative unions and employers’ associations and should take into account the cost of living and economic and social indicators.

    Visit – Romania’s President, Klaus Iohannis, is paying an official visit to Montenegro today, at the invitation of his counterpart Jakov Milatović. This is the first visit at the level of heads of state since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Klaus Iohannis will be received by President Jakov Milatovic at the official residence in Cetinje. The talks will focus on such topics as political and diplomatic cooperation, defense and support for Montenegro’s European path. Opportunities for increasing investments and commercial exchanges, stimulating contacts in the fields of energy, tourism, agriculture, internal affairs, research, education and culture will also be analyzed.

    Budget – Today, the European Parliament pronounces on the budget for next year, in a different version than the one proposed by the EC and the one discussed in the Council, which announces negotiations. Initially, the European Commission had considered a budget of approximately 200 billion Euros, which it proposed both to the Council and the Parliament. The Council cut 8 billion Euros from this proposal, while the Parliament increased it by another 1 billion. One of the two chief negotiators of the EP, the Romanian MEP Victor Negrescu, says that the version of the EP, of 201 billion Euros, would be the correct one, both from the point of view of the multi-annual budget setting and from the point of view of what is needed for the Union’s common policies. The European Parliament agrees with the increase in the budget for border security, defense and external actions, but believes that the big problem is in the economy and in the social sector, domains for which more money would be needed, says Victor Negrescu.

    Year of the Child – The Romanian authorities announce a series of measures in the run-up of the Year of the Child to be marked in 2025. The measures are aimed at supporting children and promoting their rights, especially of those from disadvantaged areas. The law under which 2025 becomes the Year of the Child in Romania was passed by Parliament earlier this month. (LS)

    The European Water Polo Championship has ended with Spain winning the continental title after their 11-10 win on Tuesday, against the host country, Croatia.


    In the third place playoffs, Italy secured a 13-7 win against Hungary.


    Romania came in the 8th place in the aforementioned contest and thus qualified for the World Championships due in Qatar, next month.


    The Romanian side started off on the right foot in the competition in Croatia and won the group D with three wins out of three games: 12-8 against the Netherlands, 13-5 against Slovenia and 8-7 in the match against Slovakia. Then they took on Georgia for a place in the quarters, a match Romania clearly won 18-11. Our athletes next played Spain for a place in the semifinals, but lost 24-7. Next they played and lost to Montenegro 11-18, then to Serbia 18-7 and eventually ended up in 8th place, a better position than their previous performance.


    The eighth position has also brought our athletes tickets for the world Championships in Qatar, after an absence of 10 years. They last played in the aforementioned competition in 2013 in Barcelona, where they occupied the 13th position. In February in Qatar, the Romanian side will be part of group D together with Italy, Hungary and Kazakhstan. They will first take on Hungary in Doha on February 5th. The first side in the group will go to the quarter finals while the sides on the second and third places will go into playoffs for a place among the worlds first 8 teams.


    The competition in Qatar will assure four places in the next edition of the Olympic Games. Out of the 16 participants in Doha, 8 have already been qualified for Paris and the Romanian side stands good chances to get tickets for France. Romania hasnt qualified for an Olympic water polo competition since the 2012 London Olympics.

    Budget — The PM Marcel Ciolacu said on Thursday that there will be no new taxes next year and that the Romanian government will manage to have money by fighting tax evasion. According to him, in October, revenue collection to the state budget reached the record level of 40 billion lei (about 8 billion Euros) and keeping the same pace and maintaining non-essential expenses under control, the prime minister added, by the end of the year, we will meet the deficit target agreed with the European Commission. The statement comes after, recently, the Liberal leader Nicolae Ciucă argued that Romania cannot afford an increase in taxes next year and that funding sources must be found to support the draft pension law.



    Visit – President Klaus Iohannis continues his tour of Africa with a state visit to Tanzania. According to the agenda, today, he will meet his counterpart, Samia Suluhu Hassan, in the capital Dar es Salaam. The two presidents will have private and official talks, followed by joint press statements and an official lunch. On Saturday, Klaus Iohannis will be received by the president of the island of Zanzibar, Hussein Mwinyi. The two will have official talks, followed by an official lunch. On Sunday, a farewell ceremony will be held in Dar es Salaam. President Iohannis began his tour of Africa on Tuesday with a state visit to Kenya. He was received by his Kenyan counterpart, William Ruto. Later, he attended a meeting with the Executive Director of UNEP – United Nations Environment Program at the UN Headquarters in Nairobi. On Wednesday, president Iohannis met with Kenyas Minister of Nature Conservation, Alfred Nganga Mutua, and the Director General of the Kenya Wildlife Service, Erustus Kanga, during a visit to Nairobi National Park, and on Thursday he went to Uthiru Girls High School. The tour of President Klaus Iohannis in Africa will continue with the state visit to the Republic of Cape Verde, where he will have consultations with President Jose Maria Neves. According to the Presidential Administration, the official program will also include meetings with the President of the National Assembly, Austelino Tavares Correia, Prime Minister Jose Ulisses Correia e Silva and the Mayor of Praia, Francisco Avelino Carvalho. At the same time, Klaus Iohannis will have a meeting with people from Cape Verde who studied in Romania. The Romanian president will end his visits to Africa on November 23. The last trip of this tour is to the Republic of Senegal, where President Klaus Iohannis will have political consultations with his counterpart Macky Sall. The official program of the visit also includes, among other things, the participation of the two heads of state in the inauguration of the United Nations House in Senegal, which will house the 34 UN agencies present in this country. President Iohannis will also have a meeting with former Senegalese students in Romania.



    Football – Romanias national football team is in Hungary, where they will play against Israel on Saturday evening, in a Qualifying Group I match of the 2024 European Championship to be hosted by Germany. Because of the war at home, the Israelis had to postpone their matches from October to November, and to play abroad the matches scheduled at home. The Romanian footballers finish the preliminaries on Tuesday, in Bucharest, with Switzerland. Undefeated in the first eight matches, Romania has 16 points and is ahead of Switzerland, the group leader, on goal difference. Next is Israel, with 11 points, and Kosovo, with 10 points. The two top-ranking teams in the group go to the final tournament. Romania has not reached a Euro since 2016, and a World Cup since 1998.



    Gaza – Another 16 Romanian citizens and members of their families, evacuated from the Gaza Strip, arrived in Romania today on board a flight operated by the state-owned company TAROM. Initially, 17 Romanians and their families crossed into Egypt through the Rafah border point, being accompanied to Cairo by representatives of the Romanian Foreign Ministry. There, one of the evacuated Romanians decided to remain in Egypt. So far, 237 Romanian citizens evacuated from Gaza have been transported to Romania.



    Montenegro – The Romanian Foreign Minister, Luminiţa Odobescu, on Thursday paid the first official visit by a foreign minister to Montenegro since the installation of the current pro-European government in that country. The program of the visit included political consultations with the FM Filip Ivanovic, receptions with the President Jakov Milatovic and the Prime Minister Milojko Spajic, as well as meetings with the Deputy Prime Minister for Security, Home Policy, European and Foreign Affairs Aleksa Becic and respectively with the Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorcevic. The agenda of talks included aspects related to the strengthening of bilateral dialogue, including by intensifying high-level contacts. Areas of common interest were addressed, such as economic cooperation and interconnectivity, cyber security, internal affairs and justice, civil protection, education and research. The Romanian Foreign Minister expressed her appreciation for the bilateral collaboration in the field of defense, as well as within NATO. Luminiţa Odobescu reconfirmed Romanias firm position for the continuation of the European integration process of the Western Balkan states, emphasizing Romanias consistent support for Montenegros European path.



    Debate–The NATO Deputy Secretary General, the Romanian Mircea Geoană, is today visiting the cities of Iaşi and Bacău, in eastern Romania. In Iasi, he participates in the debate entitled “Economic security and innovation on the eastern flank of NATO and the EU”, organized by the citys Chamber of Commerce. In Bacău, Geoană will visit Aerostar, a company that will sign a collaboration contract with Derco Aerospace (part of the American Lockheed Martin group), for technology transfer for the repair of F-16 aircraft equipment belonging to the Romanian Army.     The delegation, which represented Romania at the European Judo Championship held by the French city of Montpellier at the weekend, obtained no medal. Alex Cret obtained the best Romanian performance, a 7th place in the 90 kilogram category. He defeated Stuart McWatt of Britain in the first round and Bulgarian Ivailo Ivanov in the round of 16. The Romanian was eliminated in the quarters by Mihael Zgank of Turkey, who eventually became the bronze medalist.


    The Romanians attempt to re-qualify was stopped in its tracks by Hungarian Krisztian Toth, who also became bronze medalist. Romania participated in the aforementioned event with four Judokas and the last medal obtained by the Romanians in European championships was a silver obtained by Andreea Chitu in the 52 kilogram category in 2020.


    Romanias male handball side played two friendlies last week. On Thursday in Pdgorica, the Romanians were outperformed by Montenegro 38-28, while on Saturday in Toulouse they lost to France 21-40. We recall that France boasts three Olympic titles, six world trophies and three European.


    The games were part of the training campaign for the European Championships due in Germany in January, when Romania will be part of group B together with Spain, Austria and Croatia. The Romanian handballers will go to the aforementioned competition as outsiders as Spain was European vice-champion in 2022 and Croatia in 2020. As for Austria, they have outperformed the Romanians in both qualifying games. Our handballers havent qualified for a European Championship since 1996.


    Irina Bara and Dalila Jakupovic have won the doubles of the ITF tennis tournament in Heraklion, a competition with 40,000 dollars in prize money. The Romania-Slovenian pair defeated on Sunday, the Romanian-Greek pair Oana Gavrilă / Sapfo Sakellaridi, 3-6, 7-6, 10-8.


    Last weekend saw the matches counting towards the 15th leg of the Romanian Football Superleague. On Friday in Iasi, local side Poli versus Otelul Galati ended in a one-all draw. Also in draws ended the games on Saturday pitching Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe against Petrolul Ploieşti, nil-all and Universitatea Craiova versus FC U Craiova 1948 one-all. On Sunday FC Voluntari won their away match against Universitatea Cluj 2-1, and Farul Constanţa obtained a one-all draw against FC Botoşani. In the legs derby Rapid Bucharest secured a 2-1 win against FCSB. FCSB ranks first in the standings with 31 points, followed by CFR with 30 and Rapid with 29.

    VISIT Romanian president Klaus Iohannis is today meeting Romanian
    entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley, USA. Iohannis earlier met members of the
    Romanian community on the West Coast and told them that Romania is in a
    complicated situation created by the war in neighboring Ukraine, but the
    country is doing well and the economy is growing. According to Iohannis,
    Romania has received nearly 2 million and a half refugees from that country and
    has eased Ukraine’s grain exports. 60% of Ukraine’s grain exports have so far
    been done via Romania and we are making efforts to increase this quantity -
    Iohannis said. He said the almost 450 thousand Romanians who are living in the
    USA are making an extraordinarily important bridge between the two countries.
    The community of Romanians in the USA is the fifth largest after those from Italy,
    Britain and Germany. We recall that on Tuesday and Wednesday Iohannis headed
    the Romanian delegation attending the UN General Assembly.








    MANDATE Romania’s Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu has handed over the
    mandate of the presidency of Community of Democracies to the Foreign Minister of
    Canada, Melanie Joly during a ceremony held in New York on the sidelines of the
    UN General Assembly. Aurescu reviewed the highlights of the three-year mandate
    of the Romanian presidency adding that during these three years, democracies,
    human and international rights faced a lot of challenges, such as the Covid-19
    pandemic and the unjustified military aggression against Ukraine. According to
    him, under the Romanian presidency and with his support, a group of member
    states on February 24th endorsed a declaration voicing their support
    for the democracy, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its
    internationally-recognized borders. At the same time the signatory countries
    have firmly condemned the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine and have
    unequivocally voiced their support for the Ukrainian people in its democratic
    aspirations.






    WAR
    Ukrainian president
    Volodymyr Zelensky has called on Russians to resist the partial military mobilisation
    announced by president Putin. According to Zelensky, 55 thousand Russian troops
    have been killed in this war. Want more? No? Then protest, fight back, run
    away or surrender to the Ukrainian army, Zelensky says in a video message in
    Russian language. He has accused the Russian citizens they are accomplices to
    the crimes their troops are committing against the Ukrainians. Clashes between
    the two armies have carried on both in the south and eastern Ukraine. In another
    development, four regions in southern and eastern Ukraine, under Moscow’s total
    and partial control, are to vote in a referendum to join Russia until Tuesday.
    The polls, hastily organised after being announced this week have been widely
    condemned in the west as illegitimate.






    FOOTBALL Romania’s national eleven is tonight playing Finland in an away
    game counting towards Group 3 in the Nations’ B League. On Monday, the
    Romanians will be up against Bosnia in Bucharest, their last match in the group.
    Some newspapers in Bucharest say this could be our national side’s last match
    with selector Edward Iordanescu at the helm due to their poor performances in
    the league, where Romania ranks last with only one win and three defeats, after
    Finland, Montenegro and Bosnia.








    REFUGEES Sources with the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Border
    Police have announced that 82,152 persons entered Romania on Thursday, of whom
    10,594 are Ukrainian nationals, 5.4% as compared to the previous day. According
    to the same sources since February 10 this year, two weeks before the Russian
    invasion, 2,388,009 Ukrainians have entered Romania.

    Südosteuropa strebt bessere politische Koordinierung an


    Kurz nach dem au‎ßerordentlichen NATO-Gipfel in der vergangenen Woche in Brüssel kamen die Regierungschefs der südosteuropäischen Verbündeten am Montag in Sofia zusammen. Im Mittelpunkt stand die von dem russischen Angriffskrieg gegen die Ukraine geschaffene Situation. Die Premierminister Rumäniens, Bulgariens, Nordmazedoniens und Montenegros erörterten, wie sich die russische Invasion kurz-, mittel- und langfristig auf die regionale Sicherheit auswirken wird und wie die Koordinierung und Zusammenarbeit in Südosteuropa verstärkt werden kann.




    Die Entscheidung Moskaus, einen Krieg gegen die Ukraine zu beginnen, hat das Sicherheitsklima in der Schwarzmeerregion und in Südosteuropa ernsthaft beeinträchtigt“, sagte der rumänische Premierminister Nicolae Ciucă. Wir benötigen eine stärkere Verteidigung für eine wirksamere Abschreckung, aber auch eine widerstandsfähigere Gesellschaft und Infrastruktur für mehr Sicherheit. Wir haben die böswillige Haltung und den Einfluss Russlands in der Region zur Kenntnis genommen und uns entschlossen, ihr durch die Erhöhung der Widerstandsfähigkeit entgegenzutreten. Das bedeutet, dass wir unsere Energieabhängigkeit von Russland verringern, falsche russische Narrative bekämpfen, den Cyberschutz verstärken und den Handel zwischen unseren Staaten intensivieren müssen“, sagte der Premierminister: Wir betrachten Russland als die grö‎ßte Bedrohung für die Sicherheit unseres Raums, und deshalb müssen wir sowohl bei der Infrastruktur als auch bei der Stärkung der Cyberabwehr wirksam zusammenarbeiten. Wir haben beschlossen, unseren Einfluss in der Region zu vergrö‎ßern, unsere Energieabhängigkeit von Russland zu verringern und unsere Energieunabhängigkeit zu erhöhen“.




    Es wurde auch über die Truppen, die zur Aufstellung von zwei NATO-Kampfgruppen auf rumänischem und bulgarischem Hoheitsgebiet erforderlich sind, gesprochen, so wie diese auf dem jüngsten NATO-Gipfel vereinbart wurden. Ein anderes Thema stellte die Gewährleistung der Ernährungssicherheit in der Region dar, da Russland und die Ukraine wichtige Getreideproduzenten und -exporteure sind. Die vier Ministerpräsidenten vereinbarten ein Treffen der Landwirtschaftsminister ihrer Länder, um eine gemeinsame Zusammenarbeitspolitik anzusto‎ßen.




    Ministerpräsident Nicolae Ciucă dankte der Regierung in Sofia für ihr Engagement zur Fertigstellung der Erdgasverbindungsleitung Bulgarien-Griechenland: Wir haben Garantien erhalten, dass alle diese Arbeiten in diesem Sommer, im Juni, abgeschlossen sein werden. Dann werden Tests folgen, sodass wir im Herbst dieses Jahres vom Transit von Flüssiggas profitieren können, das in den Hafen von Alexandroupolis in Griechenland geliefert werden kann.“




    In Sofia erinnerte Premierminister Nicolae Ciucă auch daran, dass Rumänien, Bulgarien, Montenegro und Nordmazedonien auf eine lange Tradition der regionalen Zusammenarbeit zurückblicken können. Auf diese können sie sich nun stützen, um eine solide Antwort auf die Sicherheitsprobleme in der Region zu geben.

    – Rumänien hat Frankreich und Island in die
    Rote Liste der Länder mit hohem Covid-19-Risiko aufgenommen. Mit Wirkung vom
    kommenden Sonntag kommen die Türkei und Montenegro auf die gelbe Liste.
    Menschen, die aus Ländern auf der gelben Liste in Rumänien einreisen, müssen
    sich nicht in Quarantäne begeben, wenn sie geimpft sind oder einen höchsten 72
    Stunden vor der Abreise vorgenommenen negativen PCR-Test vorweisen. Menschen,
    die aus Ländern, die in der Roten Liste stehen einreisen, unterliegen einer
    Quarantänepflicht, wenn sie nicht geimpft sind. Lediglich Kinder unter 3 Jahren
    und Kinder zwischen 3 und 16 Jahren sind von der Quarantäne ausgenommen, wenn
    sie einen negativen COVID-Test vorweisen. Am Sonnabend wurden in Rumänien 255
    neue Covid-19-Fälle gemeldet. 8 Menschen sind an oder mit COVID gestorben, 73
    liegen auf Intensivstationen.






    – Die Premierministerin und die Minister der
    neuen Regierung der mehrheitlich rumänischsprachigen ehemaligen Sowjetrepublik
    Moldau wurden am Freitag von der europafreundlichen Präsidentin Maia Sandu
    vereidigt. Sandu sagte, sie habe volles Vertrauen in die Professionalität und
    die Fähigkeiten der von Natalia Gavriliță geleiteten Regierung der sie ihre
    volle Unterstützung zusagte. Das Regierungsprogramms sieht Reformen in verschiedenen
    Bereichen und die Bekämpfung der Korruption vor. Außenpolitisch will die
    neue Regierung in Chisinau ihre Bemühungen um den Beitritt der Republik Moldau
    zur Europäischen Union fortsetzen. Die politischen Vertreter in Bukarest
    versicherten dem Nachbarland ihre Unterstützung zu.






    – Der rumänische Außenminister Bogdan Aurescu
    begrüßte die gemeinsame Erklärung seiner Amtskollegen aus den G7-Staaten und
    des Hohe Vertreter der Europäischen Union für Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik,
    Josep Borrell, am Freitag zum jüngsten Angriff auf den Öltanker Mercer
    Street. Bei dem Drohnenangriff vor der Küste Omans kamen zwei
    Besatzungsmitglieder – der rumänische Kapitän und ein Brite – ums Leben. Die
    Unterzeichner der Erklärung verurteilten am Freitag den Angriff als
    vorsätzlich, gezielt und als eindeutige Verletzung des Völkerrechts. Sie wiesen
    auch darauf hin, dass der Iran eine Bedrohung für den Weltfrieden und die
    internationale Sicherheit darstelle und dass alle verfügbaren Beweise darauf
    hindeuten, dass der Iran hinter dem Anschlag stehe. Teheran bestritt jegliche
    Beteiligung ab.






    – Zwei Flugzeuge der rumänischen Luftwaffe
    wurden nach Nordmazedonien entsandt, um die Einsatzkräfte in dem Land zu
    unterstützen, das in den letzten Tagen von Waldbränden heimgesucht wurde. Das
    nationale Komitee für Notfallsituationen in Bukarest hat heute Morgen eine
    entsprechende Entscheidung getroffen. Nach Angaben des rumänischen
    Verteidigungsministeriums sind die beiden Flugzeuge – eine C-27 J Spartan für
    die Brandbekämpfung und eine C-130 Hercules für die logistische Unterstützung -
    mit 15 Soldaten besetzt. Dies ist der zweite internationale Einsatz dieser Art
    für rumänische Militärflugzeuge, der Erste fand im Juli 2018 in Griechenland
    statt.






    – Das Außenministerium in Bukarest warnte
    aufgrund der anhaltenden Brände vor Reisen in Griechenland, das ein beliebtes Reiseziel für viele
    rumänische Touristen ist. Besonders angespannt
    ist die Lage nahe Athen, auf der Insel Euböa und auf dem Peloponnes. Feuerwehr
    und Freiwillige mühen sich ununterbrochen der Flammen Herr zu werden. Die
    Ukraine, Zypern, Israel, Frankreich, die Schweiz, Schweden und Kroatien sind
    Griechenland zu Hilfe geeilt. Aus Rumänien wurden 112 Feuerwehrleute mit 23
    Löschfahrzeugen entsandt. Unterdessen kämpften Rettungskräfte in der Türkei am
    Sonnabend weiter gegen die schlimmsten Brände seit mehr als einem Jahrzehnt.
    Mindestens acht Menschen starben und 100.000 Hektar Wald und Ackerland wurden
    zerstört.






    – Der Rumäne Cătălin
    Chirilă     belegte heute bei den Olympischen Spielen in Tokio den dritten
    Platz im B-Finale des 1.000-m-Kanu-Einzelrennens auf der Sea Forest Waterway in
    Tokyo. In der Endwertung belegte Cătălin Chirilă den 11. Zuvor, ebenfalls in
    Tokio, qualifizierte sich der mehrfache Medaillengewinner bei internationalen
    Wettkämpfen, zusammen mit Victor Mihalachi auf den fünften Platz im
    1.000-Meter-Doppelkanu-Rennen.

    In Rumänien nimmt die Zahl der Corona-Neuinfektionen weiter zu. Von Mittwoch auf Donnerstag überschritt das Land die Schwelle von 9.700 neuen Fällen von Ansteckung innerhalb von 24 Stunden, womit sich die Gesamtzahl der positiv getesteten Bürger auf fast 277.000 erhöhte. 121 Menschen starben an den Folgen der Covid-Erkrankung, 1014 Personen werden auf der Intensivstation behandelt. Die Regierung bereitet sich darauf vor, die Maskenpflicht im öffentlichen Raum einzuführen, dort wo die Infektionsrate 1,5 pro Tausend Einwohner beträgt. Der Beschluss sollte am Donnerstagabend auf einer Regierungssitzung zusammen mit anderen restriktiven Maßnahmen verabschiedet werden.



    Gewerkschafter des Gewerkschaftsverbandes Solidaritatea sanitară aus dem Gesundheitswesen haben am Donnerstag in Bukarest gegen die ungeeigneten Arbeitsbedingungen protestiert. Sie würden ihre Protestaktionen ab sofort jeden Donnerstag so lange wiederholen, bis ihren Forderungen nachgegangen werde. Dazu zählte die Ergreifung sämtlicher Sicherheits- und Gesundheitsschutzmaßnahmen zugunsten des Gesundheitspersonals, um die Zahl der Corona-Ansteckungen und Todesfälle unter Ärzten und Assistenten so weit wie möglich zu reduzieren. Darüber hinaus wollten die Demonstranten Zugang zu allen Informationen über den Covid-19 sowie Prämien für die unter außergewöhnlichen Bedingungen geleistete Arbeit. Die Proteste am Donnerstag fanden zwei Tage nach dem sogenannten Erschöpfungsmarsch“ statt, der vom Gesundheitspersonal und Sozialhelfern organisiert wurde. Sie beklagten die uneinheitlichen Krisenstrategien der Behörden.



    Das rumänische Außenministerium und die NATO werden am 10. November die jährliche NATO-Konferenz über Rüstungskontrolle, Abrüstung und Nichtverbreitung von Massenvernichtungswaffen im Videokonferenzformat veranstalten. Die Verpflichtung zur Ausrichtung der Veranstaltung sei ein konkreter Ausdruck des Beitrags Rumäniens zu den Bemühungen der Alliierten, die globale Architektur in Bezug auf die genannten Themen zu konsolidieren, hieß es in einer Mitteilung. Die Veranstaltung wird in ihrer 16. Ausgabe vom rumänischen Außenminister Bogdan Aurescu und NATO-Generalsekretär Jens Stoltenberg eröffnet. Die Konferenz wird den 50. Jahrestag des Vertrags über die Nichtverbreitung von Kernwaffen markieren und einen Rahmen für die Debatte im Hinblick auf die Evaluierungskonferenz des Vertrags bieten, die für August 2021 geplant ist. Der Rumäne Mircea Geoana ist stellvertretender Generalsekretär der NATO, ein Amt, das er seit 2019 bekleidet.



    SPORT: Die rumänische Handballmannschaft der Herren ist mit einer Niederlage in die EM-Qualifikation gestartet. In der Gruppe 8. unterlag man auswärts Schweden mit 30:33. Auf die Partie folgt am Sonntag das Heimspiel gegen Montenegro. Das Kosovo ist der dritte Gegner in dieser Gruppe, die ersten beiden Plätze bedeuten die Qualifikation für das Endturnier in Ungarn und der Slowakei. Rumänien war in den 60er und 70er Jahren vierfacher Weltmeister, dennoch konnte sich die Mannschaft seit 1996 nicht mehr für das kontinentale Endturnier qualifizieren. Bei den Frauen ist Rumänien in einer Gruppe mit Norwegen, Deutschland und Polen für die Europameisterschaft qualifiziert, die im Dezember stattfindet.

    Corona Ro — Following tests conducted at national level, 1,639 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have been reported in Romania as against the latest reporting. 41 people have died taking the death toll to 4,591. 506 persons infected with the new coronavirus are in ICUs. The health minister Nelu Tataru announced that 103 million face masks have been distributed across the country for the disadvantaged. He added that he did not expect a new state of emergency to be declared, which would force people to isolate themselves in their homes, and urged people to observe the rules for preventing the spread of the new coronavirus. Minister Tataru warned that if people failed to observe the rules the number of cases of infection would definitely grow.



    Corona world — There are more than 32 million cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection around the world, with 980 thousand people having been killed by the virus, shows worldometers.info. In France, the daily rise in the number of infections has brought restrictions back. The health minister Olivier Véran says the situation has worsened in the past two weeks, the spread of the virus being more intense in big urban agglomerations. Marseille and its metropolitan area are currently on high alert and as of Monday firm restrictions have been implemented for at least 2 weeks: bars, restaurants and cafes were closed as well as other public areas, with several exceptions, and most people returned to working from home.     Meeting — The Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu is participating today in the e-meeting of the foreign ministers of the Central European Initiative hosted by Montenegro, which is the incumbent president of the organization. The participants are looking into the preliminary results of the efforts made at national, regional and European levels to manage the COVID-19 pandemic and into the prospects for social and economic recovery for the 17 member states. The Central European Initiative is a political platform that contributes to connecting the countries neighboring the EU to the Union’s values and standards. Romania joined the Central European Initiative on June 1, 1996.



    Football — Romania’s football champions CFR Cluj (northwest) are playing today away from home against the Swedish team Djurgaarden fighting for a place in the Europa League play-offs. Also Cup holders FCSB from Bucharest are trying to reach the playoffs for the groups of the second continental competition, but their mission seems impossible. Most of the FCSB footballers are sick with the new coronavirus and the team will be improvised for the match on home turf to be played against Slovan Liberec.



    Tennis — 5 tennis players from Romania, who won on Tuesday and Wednesday in the first qualifying round for the main table of the singles competition of the grand slam tournament in Roland Garros, are today playing in the second round.     Belarus — The US does not consider Aleksandr Lukashenko as the legitimate president of Belarus, said Wednesday the US State Department representative after Lukashenko was secretly sworn in for a 6th consecutive term in office as president of the state, France Press reports. The election of August 9 was neither free nor fair and the announced results were rigged and do not give any legitimacy to the winner, said a spokesperson for the American diplomacy as quoted by FP.     COVID- 19 en Roumanie — En Roumanie, les 9 nouveaux décès liés au Covid-19 — deux femmes et six hommes, dont l’âge était compris entre 52 et 80 ans, portent leur nombre total à 961, a informé dimanche le Groupe de communication stratégique. Le nombre de personnes infectées dépasse les 15.300, dont près de 7.000 ont guéri. Quant aux Roumains de la diaspora, plus de 2.750 ont été testés positifs au Sars-Cov-2, la plupart d’entre eux se trouvant en Italie, en Espagne et au Royaume-Uni. Depuis le début de la pandémie, 100 ressortissants roumains vivant à l’étranger ont perdu la vie.


    Par ailleurs, les mesures de déconfinement proposées par les autorités de Bucarest et qui devraient être mises en œuvre à partir du 15 mai, après la cessation de l’état d’urgence, prévoient entre autres le port obligatoire et correct du masque de protection dans les espaces publics clos, dans les magasins, les transports en commun et sur le lieu de travail.De même, les entreprises et les institutions devront décaler les horaires de travail de leurs salariés de manière à réduire la pression sur les transports en commun ou privilégier le travail à distance, lorsque cela est possible. Les événements et les rassemblements en plein air seront toujours suspendus temporairement, tout comme les activités culturelles, artistiques, sportives et religieuses qui se déroulent dans des espaces clos.



    Covid-19 dans le monde – Plus de quatre millions de cas de COVID-19 recensés officiellement dans le monde et plus de 277.000 décès, indiquent les données collectées par l’université américaine John Hopkins. Les Etats-Unis continuent d’être le pays le plus touché, avec plus d’un quart des cas confirmés et un tiers des décès enregistrés à l’échelle mondiale. De l’avis des experts, le nombre réel des cas d‘infection est probablement plus élevé, vu le nombre réduit de tests de dépistage menés dans bien des pays. Le bilan quotidien des décès poursuit une trajectoire descendante dans certains pays, mais on craint que l‘allègement des restrictions n’entraîne une deuxième vague de contaminations. Par ailleurs, plusieurs gouvernements s’attendent à un déclin de leurs économies, en raison de l’impact de la pandémie sur les marchés mondiaux et sur les chaînes d’approvisionnement.



    Rapport – Les ministres roumains de la Santé, du Travail et des Affaires étrangères, respectivement Nelu Tătaru, Violeta Alexandru et Bogdan Aurescu, doivent présenter lundi devant le Parlement le rapport sur la gestion des problèmes pendant l’état d’urgence. Parmi eux, la situation des saisonniers partis travailler à l’étranger en pleine pandémie. Ce sera au ministre des Affaires étrangères de fournir des explications sur ces départs et sur les mauvaises conditions de travail des saisonniers roumains. Les parlementaires attendent aussi les réponses de la ministre du Travail, Violeta Alexandru, à leurs questions relatives au chômage partiel ou bien à la hausse des pensions de retraite. Enfin, c’est l’intervention du ministre de la Santé, Nelu Tătaru, qui suscite le plus grand intérêt, car on veut savoir entre autres combien de tests ont jusqu’ici été faits pour le Covid-19, ce qui se passera après le 15 mai et comment on va s’y prendre pour tester massivement les personnes à risque.



    Aides — La Roumanie a envoyé dimanche 20.000 masques de protection au Monténégro et en Macédoine du Nord. Ils font partie du stock de contremesures médicales face à l’épidémie de Covid – 19 constitué par la Romanie et ont été achetés grâce à un programme de subvention de 10 millions d’euros signé avec la Commission européenne. Par ailleurs, un convoi de 20 camions chargés d’équipements sanitaires offerts par la Roumanie à la République de Moldova voisine pour l’aider à combattre l’épidémie de Covid-19, est arrivé jeudi à destination. Le gouvernement de Bucarest a décidé de fournir à l’Etat voisin une aide humanitaire de plus de 3 millions d’euros, sous forme d’équipements et dispositifs médicaux et de médicaments. La Roumanie a également envoyé une équipe de 52 médecins et infirmiers, qui travaillent dans les hôpitaux de la République de Moldova accueillant des malades de Covid-19. Enfin, une équipe de 11 médecins et 6 infirmiers a participé du 7 au 24 avril à des missions dappui du personnel médical italien.



    10 Mai — Plusieurs universitaires de Cluj (nord-ouest de la Roumanie) demandent que le 10 Mai, Journée du Roi, soit déclarée Fête nationale, tout comme le 1er Décembre. Ils proposent de prendre exemple sur la Pologne et la Hongrie, qui marquent respectivement deux et trois fois la fête nationale. Cette date a une triple signification dans l’histoire de la Roumanie. Le 10 mai 1866, le prince Carol, issu de la famille allemande de Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, prêtait serment en tant que voïvode roumain. Le 10 mai 1877, le même Carol Ier proclamait l’indépendance de la Roumanie par rapport à l’Empire ottoman, tandis que le 10 mai 1881 il était couronné roi.


    Au temps de la monarchie, le 10 Mai était le jour de la fête nationale. Jusqu’en 1947, lorsque le roi Michel 1er , dernier souverain roumain, a été contraint par les communistes d’abdiquer et de s’exiler. Ces dernières années, le 10 Mai a été marqué par maints événements organisés à Bucarest et dans d’autres grandes villes de Roumanie et de République de Moldova voisine, à population majoritairement roumanophone. La princesse Margareta de Roumanie, gardienne de la couronne, a transmis un message à tous ceux qui célèbrent, le 10 Mai, le Jour de la Royauté, soulignant les aspirations de la Maison royale à la liberté, au progrès et à la démocratie.

    Das gesamte diplomatische Corps der rumänischen
    Botschaft in Kabul soll nach dem Terroranschlag vom Dienstagabend nach Hause
    gebracht werden. Ein 43-Jahre altes Mitglied des Sicherheitspersonals wurde bei
    dem Anschlag getötet und ein Mitglied des diplomatischen Corps verletzt. Dieser
    befindet sich in stabilen gesundheitlichen Zustand. Der Sitz der rumänischen
    Botschaft in Kabul ist schwer beschädigt und kann gegenwärtig nicht mehr
    genutzt werden. Präsident Klaus Iohannis,
    Außenministerin Ramona Manescu und Premierministerin Viorica Dancila haben den
    Anschlag entschieden verurteilt und die Unterstützung Rumäniens für den Kampf
    gegen den Terrorismus in all seinen Formen bekräftigt. Landespräsident,
    Iohannis hat den in Kabul getöteten Mann, post-mortem, mit den Stern Rumäniens
    ausgezeichnet. Bei den Anschlägen in Kabul sind seit Anfang des Jahres fast 200
    Menschen getötet und rund 900 verwundet worden. Rumänien ist eines der ersten
    fünf Beitragsländer zur NATO-Mission in Afghanistan und entsendet über 760
    Soldaten in dieses Operationszentrum. Seit Januar 2002 nehmen rumänische
    Truppen an Missionen in diesem Land teil.




    Als Mitglied der EU und der NATO schenkt Rumänien
    den Balkan-Ländern eine besondere Aufmerksamkeit und unterstützt sie in ihrem
    Bestreben, sich der europäischen und euro- atlantischen Familie zu näheren.
    Dies sagte Präsident Klaus Iohannis in einer Botschaft, an die Teilnehmern der
    Konferenz der Verteidigungsminister der Balkanländer, die am Mittwoch in
    Bukarest getagt hat. Während der EU-Ratspräsidentschaft in den ersten sechs
    Monaten des Jahres, hat das Land der EU-Erweiterung in den westlichen
    Balkanstaaten besondere Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt, betonte Präsident Iohannis.
    An der Konferenz nahmen Delegationen aus Albanien, Bosnien-Herzegowina,
    Bulgarien, Griechenland, Nordmakedonien, Montenegro, Rumänien, Serbien und der
    Türkei sowie Kroatien und Slowenien als Beobachter teil.




    Die Ausgaben für die Gesundheitsversorgung in
    Rumänien machten 2016 knapp 5 % des BIP aus. Dieser ist der kleinste Wert in
    der EU. Der europäische Durchschnitt liegt bei 10 % des BIP, berichtet
    Eurostat. In der EU steht Frankreich mit 11,5 % des BIP an der Spitze, gefolgt
    von Deutschland mit 11,1 % und Schweden mit 11 %. In 12 EU – Staaten machten die
    Ausgaben für die Gesundheitsversorgung im Jahre 2016 weniger als 7,5 % des BIP
    aus.




    Knapp über 20.000 im Ausland lebende Rumänen haben
    sich für die Briefwahl registriert und ungefähr dieselbe Zahl für die
    Präsidentschaftswahl in den Wahllokalen im Ausland, meldete die ständige
    Wahlbehörde. Laut dieser, könnte die Registrierung um 4 Tage verlängert werden,
    vom 11. September auf dem 15. September. Die rumänischen Staatsbürger haben
    also noch 11 Tage Zeit um sich auf dem Internetportal www.votstrainatate.ro als
    Auslandswähler anzumelden. Ca. 9,7 Mio. Rumänien leben gegenwärtig im Ausland.
    5,6 Mio. davon bilden die Diaspora, die Übrigen leben in den alten
    Gemeinschaften an den Landesgrenzen.

    Hörfunks. Das zentrale Thema der aktuellen Ausgabe des Festivals ist Die Welt

    Brüssel: Rumänien muss dringend zu einem aufrichtigen Reformprozess zurückkehren und jegliche Maßnahmen unterlassen, die zu einem Rückschritt dessen führen könnten, was in den letzten Jahren erreicht wurde“, sagte der erste Vizepräsident der Europäischen Kommission Frans Timmermans während einer Pressekonferenz in Brüssel. Die Europäische Kommission hat in letzter Zeit wiederholt darauf hingewiesen, dass sie die jüngsten Entwicklungen der Rechtsstaatlichkeit in Rumänien mit Besorgnis verfolgt. Nach Meinung der Kommission scheinen Inhalt und Verfahren der jüngsten Änderungen der Rechtsstaatlichkeit mittels Eilverordnungen ohne Konsultationen mit der den Vertretern der Justiz und den unmittelbar Interessierten in direktem Widerspruch zu den Empfehlungen des Kooperations- und Überprüfungsmechanismus zu stehen. Der Mechanismus wurde im Januar 2007 nach dem Beitritt Bulgariens und Rumäniens zur EU eingeführt, um die beiden Länder bei der Überwindung der Mängel bei der Justizreform und der Korruptionsbekämpfung zu unterstützen.



    Bukarest: Die rumänische Premierministerin Viorica Dăncilă hat am Mittwoch die Fortschritte des Landes bei den Verhandlungen mit der EU am Ende der Gespräche mit dem montenegrinischen Amtskollegen Dusko Markovic begrüßt. Sie bekräftigte die Haltung Bukarests, den Erweiterungsprozess auf der Grundlage der individuellen Verdienste weiter zu unterstützen. Auf der Tagesordnung standen auch die Verteidigungskooperation zwischen den beiden NATO-Mitgliedstaaten, die Energiesicherheit der Region und die Landwirtschaft. Gleichzeitig gab die rumänische Premierministerin bekannt, dass es vereinbart wurde, noch in diesem Jahr ein rumänisch-montenegrinisches Wirtschaftsforum zu veranstalten. Dusko Markovic wiederum sagte, Rumänien sei nicht nur ein Freund Montenegros, sondern auch ein Partner, der aufgrund seiner Erfahrung als EU-Mitglied helfen kann. Der montenegrinische Ministerpräsident wird heute auch von Präsident Klaus Iohannis empfangen.



    Washington: Der rumänische Außenminister Theodor Melescanu nimmt am Mittwoch und Donnerstag in Washington an einem Außenministertreffen der NATO-Mitgliedstaaten teil. Laut einer Pressemitteilung des Außenministeriums kennzeichnet die Veranstaltung den 70. Jahrestag der Gründung des Nordatlantischen Bündnisses. Eine gemeinsame Erklärung wird am Ende der Sitzung erwartet. Die NATO wurde durch den Nordatlantikvertrag gegründet, der am 4. April 1949 in Washington von den USA, Kanada und zehn europäischen Staaten unterzeichnet wurde. Derzeit umfasst das Nordatlantik-Bündnis 29 Staaten in Europa und Nordamerika. Rumänien ist 2004 der Allianz beigetreten.



    Bukarest: Der von den oppositionellen Liberalen Partei (PNL) und der Partei der Volksbewegung (PMP) eingeleitete einfache Antrag zum Verkehrswesen wurde am Mittwoch vom Plenum der Abgeordnetenkammer in Bukarest abgelehnt. Die Unterzeichner forderten den Rücktritt des Minister Razvan Cuc und sagten, dass die Allianz PSD-ALDE durch ihre Programme den Bau von 350 km Autobahn bis 2020 versprochen habe. Dabei habe die derzeitige Exekutive nach fast einem Jahr und drei Monaten hat gerade 58 Kilometer für den Verkehr freigegeben. Laut PNL und PMP gibt es zwar europäische Mittel für die größten Infrastrukturprojekte, doch in fast fünf Jahren sind nur vier Finanzierungsanträge gestellt worden. Die Opposition argumentierte auch, dass die Situation auch in Bezug auf die Infrastruktur des Eisenbahnnetzes katastrophal ist und die nationale Fluggesellschaft Tarom kurz vor dem Bankrott steht.



    Bukarest: Der Europäische Investitionsfonds (EIF) hat am Mittwoch vier Finanzierungsvereinbarungen in Bukarest unterzeichnet, wobei Rumänien mehr als 170 Millionen Euro für die Entwicklung von kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen sowie für die Finanzierung der Auslandsstudien der rumänischen Studenten, in Form von Darlehn. Rund 450 Studierende profitieren von günstigen Krediten für ein Studium in einem anderen EU-Land sowie in Island, Liechtenstein, Nordmakedonien, Norwegen und der Türkei. Die neuen Vereinbarungen werden auch die Finanzierungsbedingungen für 3.000 KMU verbessern.

    Schengen – Le ministère roumain des AE a salué l’adoption par le PE d’une nouvelle résolution qui demande l’admission immédiate de la Roumanie et de la Bulgarie à l’espace Schengen. Le document reconfirme le fait que la Roumanie est prête pour faire partie de l’espace de libre circulation et remplit toutes les responsabilités qui lui incombent en tant qu’Etat embre de Schengen, contribuant ainsi à la sécurité de tous les citoyens européens, précise encore la diplomatie roumaine. La résolution a été validée avec 514 votes pour, 107 contre et 38 abstentions. Ce sera au Conseil de l’Union d’avoir le dernier mot à ce sujet. Le Parlement européen avait donné son feu vert à l’entrée des deux pays dans l’espace de libre circulation déjà en juin 2011, ayant confirmé sa position à plusieurs reprises après l’adoption de la résolution législative. L’admission de la Roumanie et de la Bulgarie dans Schengen a été reportée plusieurs fois en raison de l’opposition de certains Etats membres, qui ont invoqué l’absence de réformes en matière de justice.

    Défense – Le président Klaus Iohannis a suspendu mardi la réunion du Conseil suprême de défense du pays, sur demande des membres du Conseil. Selon l’Administration présidentielle, l’ordre du jour de la réunion comportait des sujets importants concernant la défense et la sécurité nationales, les débats s’étant prolongés. Le chef de l’Etat a décidé de reprendre les discussions le 19 décembre prochain. Parmi les sujets débattus mentionnons le plan de dotation de l’Armée roumaine pour la période 2019 – 2028, le programme d’activité en 2019 du Conseil suprême de défense ou encore les missions et les opérations à mener en 2019 en dehors des frontières roumaines.

    Retraites – La commission pour le travail et la protection sociale du Parlement roumain a approuvé mardi le projet de loi sur le système public des retraites. C’est maintenant à la Chambre des Députés d’en débattre mercredi avant de prendre la décision finale. La commission a accepté la plupart des amendements proposés par le Parti Social Démocrate (PSD) et rejeté une bonne partie des propositions formulées par l’opposition. Selon un des amendements validés, les retraités ayant cotisé pendant un maximum de 10 ans peuvent opter soit pour la pension de retraite calculée selon la loi soit pour une indemnité sociale. Par ailleurs, les années de master et de doctorat seront prises en compte au calcul de l’ancienneté au travail à condition d’avoir un diplôme qui atteste la fin de ces études. La nouvelle loi définit le retraité en tant que personne qui bénéficie d’une pension de retraite après avoir eu un stage de cotisation d’au moins 15 ans. Les personnes malvoyantes doivent avoir accompli au moins un tiers de ce stage avant de prendre leur retraite. Notons que le Sénat avait déjà approuvé ce projet de loi le 26 novembre dernier.

    Visite – La première ministre roumaine, Viorica Dancila, a reçu mardi à Bucarest le président du Parlement du Monténégro, Ivan Brajovic. Les pourparlers ont porté principalement sur les relations bilatérales et sur les opportunités de développer la coopération notamment dans le domaine économique, sans pourtant oublier l’énergie, le tourisme, la culture et l’éducation. L’occasion pour Mme Dancila de souligner que pendant son mandat à la tête du Conseil de l’UE, la Roumanie s’investira à faire avancer les négociations d’adhésion du Monténégro à l’UE. Rappelons-le, mercredi, la première ministre doit présenter devant le plénum réuni du Parlement de Bucarest les priorités de la Roumanie pendant la présidence tournante de l’UE qu’elle assurera de janvier à juin 2019.

    A review of Serbia vs. Romania football match

    Romania succeeded a 2-all draw in Belgrade this past Monday in their fixture against Serbia, Romania’s second match in the aforementioned competition. We recall that this past Friday in the southern Romanian town of Ploiesti Romania ended the match against Montenegro in a blank draw.




    In Belgrade, the Romanian eleven went two goals down from their opponents, yet each time the Romanians leveled the score. Serbia’s Aleksandr Mitrovic drew first blood on 41 minutes as an all-out stumble fatefully galvanized the Romanians’ defense lineup. At the end of the first half the scoreboard displayed a 1-nil win for the Serbian side.




    Early into the second half, actually on 48 minutes, Serbia’s Aleksandar Kolarov hacked Romanian midfielder Alexandru Chipciu in the box, so the referee granted the Romanians a kick from the spot, which was converted by Nicolae Stanciu. In the 63rd minute, Mitrovic put his team into the lead for the second time around as the result of a remarkable individual feat culminating with a shot that penetrated a literally beaten Romanian defense lineup. However, on 68 minutes, the ball carefully shot by Stanciu from the corner fed striker George Tucudean who volleyed it into the Serbian net, thus leveling the score, 2-all.




    The Romanians could even have left Belgrade as winners. A couple of minutes from time Alexandru Mitrita found himself all alone in front of keeper Marko Dimitrovic who deflected Mitrita’s shot.




    Romania’s next fixtures in UEFA Nations League are scheduled in October as on October 11th Romania takes on Lithuania away from home, while on October 14th, Romania face Serbia on home turf.




    Montenegro outclassed Lithuania 2-all in Podgorica on Monday night. The match counted towards the 4th Group of the Nations League’s C series, which also includes Romania. Scoring for Montenegro were Stefan Savic who turned a penalty kick into a goal on 34 minutes, and Marko Jankovic, who scored the second goal on 35 minutes.




    Ljubiša Tumbaković’s trainees are at the top of the table in Group 4, with 4 points, on a par with Serbia, yet with a better goal average. In the same group, Romania are 3rd-placed with 2 points, while 4th-placed are Lithuania, with zero points on their record sheet.
