    BUDGET – The state budget for 2025 is being debated in a joint plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, after it was approved, on February 1, by the ruling coalition government. The budget focuses on development, Finance Minister Tánczos Barna said, with record funds allotted to investments and with provisions for reducing public spending. The Romanian official gave details regarding the figures underlying this year’s budget: an economic growth rate of 2.5% and an average inflation rate of 4.4 percent. The main target of the government is to reduce the budget deficit to 7% of GDP, without taking into account, however, increases in taxes and duties.

     

    MEETING – The president of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, on Tuesday, met in Bucharest with the European Commission Vice-President, Romanian Roxana Mînzatu. The two discussed the role of education in combating disinformation and manipulation, as well as strengthening the democratic resilience of European societies. Commissioner Mînzatu, who takes charge of Social Rights and Employment, highlighted the need for investments in basic skills, technical and vocational education.

     

    AMBASSADORS – Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu is today meeting the ambassadors of the EU member states accredited in Bucharest. The meeting is hosted by the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU. Poland took over the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union from Hungary on January 1, 2025, for a period of six months, in a difficult geopolitical context, with European security, support for Ukraine and the consolidation of the economy as its top priorities.

     

    INVESTIGATION – The Bucharest Court of Appeal is today ruling on the proposals for the preemptive arrest of 11 people detained in the Nordis investigation. The list includes the former PSD head of the Chamber of Deputies’ Legal Committee, Laura Vicol, and her husband, Vladimir Ciorbă, the main shareholders of Nordis. According to prosecutors, the two allegedly spent huge amounts of money on goods and services exclusively for their personal benefit, after tricking clients into buying apartments in buildings that were no longer built. Ioana Băsescu, the eldest daughter of former president Traian Băsescu, and former PSD deputy Andreea Cosma, were also deposed in the investigation for their involvement in the Nordis affair as public notaries. The total amount embezzled reportedly exceeds 70 million EUR.

     

    PROPOSAL – Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia have categorically dismissed the proposal of US President Donald Trump, made in a press conference at the White House alongside the Israeli Prime Minister, regarding the takeover of the Gaza Strip by the United States and the relocation of Palestinians to other areas in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia has stated that it will not establish relations with Israel without the creation of a Palestinian state. Also, the leadership of the Islamist group Hamas has said that the plan to relocate the population of Gaza would be a recipe for chaos and tensions in the region.

     

    HALEP – The tennis world has reacted following Romanian player Simona Halep’s announcement that she was retiring. Halep made the announcement on Tuesday evening in Cluj-Napoca (northwest), after losing in the first round of the Transylvania Open. The organizers of the Roland Garros Grand Slam tournament, which Halep won in 2018, conveyed a message on X: “Our 2018 champion, Simona Halep, has announced her retirement. We wish you all the best for the next chapter in your life, Simona”. The organizers of the Wimbledon tournament also commented on the Romanian’s announcement: “Our 2019 singles champion, @Simona_Halep, has ended her professional tennis career – we wish her all the best after her retirement”.     Simona Halep retires from tennis

    One of the greatest Romanian athletes, tennis player Simona Halep, announced her retirement at the age of 33.

     

     

    “It is tough to see such a great champion leave the sport”, the Americans from The Tennis Letter, a platform specializing in information on this sport, wrote after the Simona Halep’s announcement that she is retiring. The athlete from Constanţa (southeast) has inspired countless people along the way, The Tennis Letter also wrote.

     

    “I don’t know if it’s sadness or joy. It’s probably both. But I make this decision with an easy heart. I have always been realistic about myself. My body is not strong enough to take me to the level where I probably was. It’s very hard to get there and I know what it means to get there.” These are Simona’s words, said after losing the match to the Italian Lucia Bronzetti, on Tuesday, in Cluj-Napoca (northwest), in the first round of  Transylvania Open. Simona later said in a press conference: “I am at peace, I know that I did nothing wrong in tennis. All I want now is to get some rest. I am a professional tennis player who is exhausted from a professional viewpoint and I want to rest. I don’t want to make plans anymore so I will take things as they come and see what happens”.

     

    Simona Halep is, as the numbers show, the greatest tennis player in Romanian history. She was world number one for 64 weeks, between 2017 and 2019, the peak years of her career. She has two Grand Slam titles – the French Open in 2018 and Wimbledon in 2019 – as well as three other finals played in the most important tennis competitions: two at the French Open (2014, 2017) and one at the Australian Open (2018). She also finished runner-up at the 2014 WTA Finals.

     

    Starting from 2013, the year of her first performance in the big league, she has won 24 titles in total. She won over 40 million dollars from tennis, being in 3rd place all-time, after the Williams sisters. She defeated the younger one, Serena, in the Wimbledon final. The tennis history has also recorded memorable matches of Simona against athletes of the same caliber, such as Maria Sharapova, Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki.

     

    However, Halep’s most difficult and longest match ever was not played on clay, grass or hard, but in the famous court of arbitration in Lausanne, called to determine whether the Romanian had intentionally doped. In 2022, Halep had tested positive for a banned substance and subsequently suspended for four years. An eternity in tennis and many other sports, especially since, at that time, the Romanian had turned 31. In March last year, following the appeal filed by Halep at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the latter decided that Halep had not intentionally violated anti-doping rules, so the painful match for her own honor was won. She returned to competition, but not at the level she wanted, due to physical problems. The organizers of the French Open and Wimbledon immediately reacted to her the announcement that the Romanian was ending her professional career, evoking her performances and wishing her all the best in her new life, the one after tennis.

    AGING The population of Romania in mid-2024 was 21,779,000, down 1% compared to June 1, 2023. According to the National Statistics Institute, demographic aging is deepening, with the over-65 age bracket now almost 1 million people larger than the under-14 segment. 55% of the Romanians live in urban communities, but urban-to-rural migration continues, and over 90,000 people moved to the countryside within a year. The number of women is now half a million larger than the number of men, and the national average age is close to 43.

     

    NATURAL GAS Romania has become the EU’s largest natural gas producer, with an output of 2.3 billion cubic metres in Q2, the energy minister Sebastian Burduja announced. According to him, Romania has outperformed the Netherlands, which reported 2.2 billion cubic metres, and compared to last year Romania’s natural gas output was 1% higher. Burduja added that most of the credit for this should go to the Romanian natural gas company, Romgaz, which in the first semester reported a 5% higher gas output than in the corresponding period of last year. The Romanian official explained that Romgaz intends to earmark EUR 120-160 million to increase production. This year alone, the Romanian company started operations with 7 new drilling rigs.

     

    SCHENGEN  Romania’s accession to the Schengen area with land borders, as soon as possible, is in the national interest of Hungary, the Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said Monday according to the Hungarian press agency MTI. The government in Budapest hopes that this can happen before the end of the Hungarian presidency of the EU Council, on December 31, the Hungarian official also said, adding that Romania has taken all the necessary preparatory measures to join the border free area, as shown by the evaluations of Brussels experts and the almost unanimous support of EU members. Referring to Austria’s refusal to support Romania’s full entry into Schengen, the minister said that the Hungarian government is in permanent contact with Austrian officials on this matter. Romania’s accession would also be ‘in full agreement’ with the interests of the Hungarian ethnic community in Romania, Peter Szijjarto also said.

     

    NATO A delegation of the NATO Committee for Defense Policy and Planning is in Bucharest until October 30. According to a press release by the Ministry of Defence, the visit offers an opportunity to deepen collaboration and evaluate Romania’s contribution to strengthening NATO’s deterrence and defense posture. The NATO delegation was received at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense, where the importance of strengthening allied solidarity in the current security context, with emphasis on the Black Sea region, was emphasized, and Romania’s priorities within NATO were highlighted.

     

    FUELS The average petrol price in Romania has gone up by 3.3% in the past month, to approx. EUR 1.44 per litre in Bucharest. During the same period, average diesel prices rose by 2.3%. Romania has the 7th-lowest petrol prices and the 9th–lowest diesel prices in the European Union.

     

    IMF An IMF mission led by Jan Kees Martijn will be in Bucharest between November 5 and 8, for a review of the latest economic and financial developments and of macroeconomic forecasts. In its latest “World Economic Outlook” report, released recently, the IMF lowered to 1.9% its estimate on Romania’s economic growth rate this year, from the July 2.8% forecast. According to the institution’s latest figures, in 2025 Romania is expected to see a 3.3% economic growth rate.

     

    DEBT According to the Romanian finance ministry, the country’s governmental debt reached approx. EUR 175 bln this July, accounting for 52% of GDP. Romania’s governmental debt is split between domestic debt (roughly EUR 85.7 billion), and foreign debt (approx. EUR 89.5 billion). On the other hand, the budget deficit estimated for 2024 is nearly 8% of GDP. Since 2020, Romania has been subject to an excessive deficit procedure, after in 2019 the country exceeded the 3% of GDP ceiling set under the Stability and Growth Pact. In 2021 the EU Council recommended that Romania bring its deficit below 3% by 2024.

     

    TENNIS The former WTA leader Simona Halep was defeated by Yue Yuan (China) on Monday, 6-3 6-3, in the first round of the WTA tournament in Hong Kong. It was for the first time that the Romanian player (aged 33, currently no. 869 WTA) played against Yuan (26, no. 44 WTA). The main draw of the Hong Kong tournament also includes Romania’s Ana Bogdan (109 WTA), who plays in the first round against Kimberly Birrell of Australia (111 WTA).

    MOURNING Russia observes a national day of mourning on Sunday in the wake of the terror attack in a Moscow concert hall that left at least 143 people dead and many wounded and which was claimed by a Jihadi group known as the Islamic State. The Russian public television has broadcast film footage from the interrogation of four of the masterminds, foreign nationals apprehended in a region situated at the border with Ukraine and Belarus. President Putin says the terrorists’ intention was to flee to the neighboring Ukraine where their escape was prepared. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Putin of trying to blame the attack on Kyiv. The Romanian Foreign Ministry has conveyed condolences to the victims’ families underlying that Romania firmly condemns any form of terrorism and violence against civilians.

     

    DEATH The President of the Writers Union in Romania, professor, literary critic and historian, Nicolae Manolescu, died at the age of 84 due to a heart attack. Many of his colleagues and disciples believe him to be Romania’s most important historian and literary critic since WWII. Nicolae Manolescu also had political activity after the anti-communist revolution of December 1989, being Romania’s ambassador at UNESCO and served as senator during the 1992-1996 legislature. He ran for Romania’s presidential seat in 2000. During his life and career, Nicolae Manolescu became recipient of some of the highest Romanian awards.

     

    FOOTBALL Romania’s national football selection is training for the friendly against Columbia in Madrid on Tuesday. Our footballers ended in a one-all draw their friendly match against Northern Ireland in Bucharest on Friday. These are the first two training matches of our squad before EURO 2024 in Germany this summer. In June, Romania will be playing also in friendlies against the selections of Bulgaria and Lichtenstein. At the final continental tournament, our squad is part of Group E where it will be playing Belgium, Slovakia and the winner of the tie game on Tuesday pitching Ukraine against Iceland. On Thursday night in the tie semis, Iceland secured a 4-1 win against Israel and Ukraine clinched a 2-1 win in Bosnia.

     

    TENNIS Romanian tennis player, Sorana Cirstea, has qualified for the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament underway in Miami, Florida, after a two-set win against Sloane Stephens of the host country. Cirstea clinched a 6-2, 6-1 win in a match that lasted 52 minutes and which was initially postponed because of the heavy rainfall. The Romanian will next take on Daria Kasatkina of Russia. Three other Romanians, Simona Halep, Ana Bogdan and Jaqueline Cristian have been eliminated in the competition’s first round. We recall that Halep, a former world number one, came back to competitions after her four year suspension for banned substances had been cut to nine months.

    LAW Romania’s Constitutional Court is today tackling a notification from the Higher Court of Cassation and Justice regarding the so-called law of the fugitives, which says that offenders who are to serve prison sentences and do not present themselves to a police station in seven days will be considered fugitives and get an additional sentence between six months and three years. According to the Higher Court, this law infringes upon the citizens’ right to a fair trial and to individual freedom. The list of famous fugitives includes the former mayor of Bucharest, Sorin Oprescu, the former head of Romania’s Department for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism, Alina Bica, Mario Iorgulescu, the son of the president of the Professional Football League, Gino Iorgulescu or Paul Philippe of Romania, a grandson of king Carol ll. The former mayor of Baia Mare, Catalin Chereches, who had fled to Germany after having been sentenced to five years in prison for bribery was brought to Romania on Tuesday and sent to the maximum security prison in Arad, western Romania.

     

     

    ELECTIONS Physician Catalin Cîrstoiu, manager of the University hospital in Bucharest, has today been presented in a news conference as the joint candidate for the Bucharest mayor seat by the ruling PSD-PNL coalition. Cîrstoiu will not join either party, and get support as an independent candidate during the local election of June 9th. In the following days, the Social-Democrats and Liberals are expected to announce their joint candidates for the mayor seats of the Bucharest’s six districts. We recall that 2024 is an election year in Romania, which will see election rounds for the European Parliament and local administration in June, for the presidential seat in September and the local Parliament in December.

     

     

    STRIKE Employees of Romania’s National Post Office have gone on a warning strike in an attempt to get pay rises. Protesters have called for an 80 euro rise and an increase in the loyalty bonus between 5 and 10 %. The National Trade Union Block, BNS, says that unless negotiations on the collective labour contract improve, an all-out strike is to follow shortly. Trade union leaders have underlined that almost half of Romania’s population is expected to bear the brunt of an all-out strike as the National Post Office will not be able to deliver pensions to the five million pensioners Romania presently has, as well as the social benefits to people in difficult situations. According to the Trade Union Block, two thirds of the employees of the national post company have the lowest salaries in Romania’s economy.

     

    TENNIS Three Romanian tennis players, Simona Halep, Ana Bogdan and Jaqueline Cristian have conceded defeat in the first day of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami, Florida, a competition with over 8.7 million dollars in prize money. Cristian was outperformed by Diane Parry of France, 6-7, 2-6, while Ana Bogdan lost to the Czech Katerina Siniakova, 6-2, 6-4. After a long absence from competitions, Simona Halep took on Paula Badosa of Spain, who eventually won the match 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Halep needed medical attention after the second set. The organisers have offered a wild card to Halep, who is no longer part of the WTA ranking. A former number one player, Halep had not played an official game since August 29, 2022 when she tested positive for a banned substance. The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne had admitted Halep’s appeal and reduced her initial four year suspension to nine months.

     

     

    WEATHER Temperatures are on the rise as compared to the previous day in most of Romania’s regions being within the normal range for this time of the year. The sky is overcast in the country’s north, center and east as well as in the mountains. Showers and mixed precipitations have been reported on small areas in the east, center, south and north-east. The highs of the day are ranging between 6 and 14 degrees centigrade with a noon reading in Bucharest of 8 degrees Celsius.

    ROȘIA MONTANĂ – The Canadian mining company Gabriel Resources has four months to appeal last week’s ruling issued by the Washington-based International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes in Romania’s favor in the Roșia Montană legal dispute. The miner had sought damages worth 6.7 bln USD after Romanian authorities decided to block exploitation works at the Roșia Montană gold mine, which in the meantime was included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Canadian company had plans to extract some 300 tons of gold and some 1,600 tons of silver. The court decided Romania is under no obligation to pay damages, and instead must receive court fees and other arbitration-related costs totaling 9.4 mln EUR. The government in Bucharest hailed the decision and thanked all those who made efforts to protect state interests.

     

    VEHICLE TAX – New regulations took effect today regarding the fares and period of availability for taxed vehicles in Romania. Taxes are now issued for periods of 1 or 10 days, 1, 2 or 12 months. The 1-day tax costs 2.5 EUR, the 10-day tax costs 3.3 EUR, the 2-month tax costs 8.4 EUR, while the cost for the 12-month tax remains the same – 28 EUR for vehicles, 96 EUR for trucks and freight vehicles with a gross weight under 3.5 tons, and 320 EUR for multi-passenger vehicles capable of carrying up to 23 people. The National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNADNR) says text payments are suspended until March 21 pending the introduction of the updated fares and new availability periods.

     

    PROTEST – Health sector employees are today staging a large protest action in Bucharest. The group of protesters will march from the Government building in Victory Square to the buildings to the Health and Labor ministries and then to the Palace Parliament, representatives of the Sanitary Solidarity Trade Federation say. Unionists are disgruntled with low salaries, despite the Government’s decision last week to increase salaries in the health sector by 20% in two equal installments, starting March and June. The increase is hardly enough to cover inflation, Federation members say, arguing the government’s emergency decree contains no provisions regarding bonuses or the hourly rates of on-call work.

     

    CANDIDATE – The executive council of the PSD-PNL ruling coalition is today convening to agree on the final draft of the list of joint candidates enrolled in the European Parliament election, as well as on the joint candidate for the Bucharest City Hall election. Both parties have conducted surveys to identify the best-suited candidate. On the other hand, the United Right Alliance in opposition is expected to notify the Ombudsman today to refer the government’s latest emergency decree on the joint organization of the European Parliament and local elections to the Constitutional Court. Alliance representatives say they identified certain provisions in the said decree in breach of the Constitution and previous Constitutional Court rulings.

     

    OSCARS – The 96th edition of the Academy Awards Gala was held last night in Los Angeles. Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” swept the board, winning the awards for best picture, best directing (Christopher Nolan) and best actor (Cillian Murphy). The story chronicles the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the inventor of the atomic bomb. Emma Stone won her second Academy Award for best actress for her role in “Poor Things”. The first Oscar in the history of Ukraine was awarded to the documentary “20 Days in Mariupol”. Andrea Bocelli and his son, Matteo, performed the song “Time to Say Goodbye”, in memory of celebrities who passed away last year, including Tina Turner, Matthew Perry and Ryan O’Neal.

     

    TENNIS – After a break of a year and a half, tennis player Simona Halep is expected to return to court. Halep left for Miami on Monday morning, where she will debut at the WTA 1000 tournament hosted here over March 17-31. Halep’s last official match was in August 2022. Outside WTA rankings, Halep was awarded a wildcard from Miami Open organizers, which puts her on the main draw. We recall Simona Halep was allowed to return to court after the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced her doping suspension from 4 years to 9 months. Halep’s team of lawyers succeeded in proving she had been unintentionally exposed to a contaminated supplement, which caused her to fail the doping test. (VP)

    scolaire en Roumanie


    La nouvelle
    année scolaire a débuté ce 11 septembre en Roumanie – une bonne occasion pour
    la presse de passer en revue les défis qui attendent les 3 millions d’élèves et
    leurs enseignants. Cette année scolaire
    compte 36 semaines de cours regroupés en 5 modules. Les deux semaines
    thématiques devenues habituelles -à savoir la Semaine verte et
    l’école autrement ne manqueront pas non plus au programme. Mais
    l’année 2023-2024 est également la première au cours de laquelle la nouvelle
    loi sur l’éducation sera appliquée. De nouveaux cours optionnels sont mis au
    programme et les règles d’attribution des bourses ont été modifiées. Des
    changements concernant les examens nationaux seront progressivement mis en
    place. Quant aux enseignants, ils ont hâte de voir si l’Exécutif tiendra parole
    et si leurs revenus augmenteront comme promis. En mai, ces derniers avaient déclenché
    une grève générale, suite à quoi le gouvernement a accepté d’augmenter leurs
    salaires de 25 % et de leur accorder des primes annuelles. Enfin, cette année,
    en Roumanie, le problème très grave du trafic et de la consommation de drogue
    chez les jeunes a également fait l’objet de discussions. Plusieurs ministres du
    Cabinet ont signé un plan de sécurité scolaire. Cette semaine également, les
    procureurs de la DIICOT ont lancé à Bucarest une vaste opération ciblant les
    trafiquants et les consommateurs de drogue dans l’entourage d’un jeune homme de
    19 ans, VladPascu. Issu d’une famille aisée, il fait l’objet d’une enquête pour
    avoir tué deux jeunes dans un accident de la route le mois dernier en bord de
    mer, après avoir pris le volant alors qu’il avait consommé plusieurs types de
    substances interdites. La tragédie a suscité une vive émotion dans l’opinion
    publique et continue à faire couler beaucoup d’encre.


    La guerre
    aux frontières de la Roumanie


    Des morceaux
    des drones russes ayant servi à attaquer les ports ukrainiens du Danube ont été
    retrouvés sur le territoire roumain. Suite à ces évènements, le ministère de la
    Défense de Bucarest a imposé cette semaine des restrictions de vol
    supplémentaires dans l’espace aérien bordant la frontière avec l’Ukraine, au
    sud et à l’est du pays, entre les villes de Sulina et Galati. Lessurvols en
    avion avec ou sans pilote ne sont pas autorisés, à l’exception des avions
    d’État et des avions de situation d’urgence. D’autre part, l’armée a achevé la
    construction d’abris anti-aériens dans le delta du Danube pour assurer la
    protection des civils contre d’éventuels éclats d’obus et l’onde de choc
    générée par l’éventuel crash d’un drone. Par ailleurs, le ministère des
    Affaires étrangères a informé qu’il consultait les alliés de l’OTAN concernant
    les récents développements à la frontière entre la Roumanie et l’Ukraine. Les
    représentants de l’Alliance ont précisé qu’ils ne disposaient d’aucune
    information indiquant une quelconque attaque intentionnelle de la Russie contre
    le territoire roumain, mais qu’ils continuaient de surveiller la situation. Le
    Premier ministre Marcel Ciolacu a quant à lui voulu rassurer la population.
    D’autre part, il a demandé au ministre de l’Agriculture de créer un mécanisme
    pour protéger les agriculteurs roumains contre les exportations des céréales
    ukrainiennes à des prix défiant toute concurrence. Plus de 360 ​​000
    agriculteurs bénéficieront de ce soutien. Le budget total est d’environ 60
    millions d’euros, issus de fonds européens et du budget national.














    La
    question de l’adhésion de la Roumanie à Schengen remise à l’ordre du jour des
    institutions européennes


    La présidente
    de la Commission européenne, Ursula von der Leyen, a demandé mercredi à
    Strasbourg, dans son discours sur l’état de l’Union, que la Roumanie et la
    Bulgarie puissent adhérer le plus rapidement possible à l’espace Schengen, sans
    toutefois proposer de solution au véto de l’Autriche, seul pays de l’Union européenne
    continuant à s’y opposer. Selon la présidente de la Commission, la gestion du
    phénomène migratoire est une réussite. La veille, la présidente du Parlement
    européen, Roberta Metsola, avait lancé un appel tout aussi pressant, cette
    fois-ci avec des arguments d’ordre économique : retarder l’entrée dans l’espace
    de libre circulation des personnes et des marchandises occasionne un double
    préjudice pour les Roumains et les Bulgares – cela limite leur droit à la libre
    circulation et génère des coûts supplémentaires pour leur épargne. Maintenir la
    Roumanie en dehors de l’espace Schengen entraînerait des pertes économiques
    pouvant atteindre jusqu’à 2 % du PIB. Certains économistes indépendants ont estiméà
    200 millions d’euros par mois les dégâts causés à la Roumanie.

    La joueuse de
    tennis roumaine Simona Halep, ancienne numéro 1 mondiale, a été suspendue de
    toutes compétitions pour 4 ans. L’année dernière, lors de l’US Open, elle a été
    testée positive au roxadustat, un médicament utilisé pour traiter l’anémie,
    mais considéré comme un améliorateur de performances. Un tribunal indépendant a
    reconnu que Simona Halep avait consommé un complément nutritionnel contaminé,

    La Roumanie occupe la 7ème placeau Championnat d’Europe de volleyball masculin,
    son meilleur classement au cours des 42 dernières années. Et aux Championnats

    Debut de an școlar în România

    Pe 11 septembrie, în România a început un nou an școlar – bun prilej pentru presă să treacă în revistă provocările care îi așteaptă deopotrivă pe cei aproape 3 milioane de preșcolari și elevi, dar și pe profesorii lor. La fel ca anul școlar precedent, și actualul are 36 de săptămâni de cursuri grupate în 5 module. Nu vor lipsi nici cele două săptămâni tematice devenite obișnuință – Săptămâna verde şi Şcoala altfel. 2023-2024 este, însă, și primul în care se va aplica noua Lege a Educației. Apar cursuri opționale noi, iar regulile de acordare a burselor se modifică. Treptat, vor fi și schimbări în privința examenelor naționale.

    Cât despre profesori, aceștia sunt nerăbdători să vadă dacă Executivul se va ține de cuvânt, iar veniturile lor vor crește așa cum li s-a promis. În luna mai, ei au fost în grevă generală, Guvernul de la acea dată acceptând să le mărească salariile cu 25% și să le acorde prime anuale. Nu în ultimul rând, poate ca niciodată vreodată în trecut cu atâta apăsare, anul acesta, în România, a fost luată în discuție și problema gravissimă a traficului și consumului de stupefiante în rândul tinerilor. Mai mulţi miniştri ai Cabinetului au semnat un plan privind siguranţa şcolară. Tot săptămâna aceasta, procurorii DIICOT au declanşat o vastă operaţiune în București care a vizat traficanţi și consumatori de droguri din anturajul unui tânăr de 19 ani – Vlad Pascu. Provenind dintr-o familie cu posibilități materiale mult peste medie, el este cercetat pentru uciderea a doi tineri într-un accident rutier, luna trecută, pe litoral, după ce a consumat mai multe tipuri de substanțe interzise și s-a urcat la volan. Tragedia a generat o puternică emoție publică, iar ecourile ei sunt departe de a se stinge.

    România și războiul de la graniță

    După ce, pe teritoriul României, au căzut bucăţi de drone ruseşti cu care au fost atacate porturile ucrainene de la Dunăre, ministerul Apărării de la București a impus, săptămâna aceasta, restricţii suplimentare de zbor în spaţiul aerian limitrof graniţei cu Ucraina, în sud-estul țării, între orasele Sulina şi Galaţi, pe o adâncime de 20-30 km în interiorul spaţiului aerian naţional, până la înălţimea de 4.000 de metri. Nu este permis zborul aeronavelor pilotate sau nepilotate, cu excepţia aeronavelor de stat, inclusiv SMURD, şi a aeronavelor aflate în situaţii de urgenţă. Pe de altă parte, armata a terminat de construit adăposturi antiaeriene în Delta Dunării care să asigure protecţia locuitorilor împotriva schijelor, fragmentelor şi a undei de şoc generate de eventuala prăbuşire a vreunei drone.

    Între timp, ministerul de Externe a informat că se consultă cu aliaţii din NATO privind evoluţiile de la frontiera României cu Ucraina. Reprezentanţii Alianţei au precizat că nu au informaţii care să indice vreun atac intenţionat al Rusiei împotriva teritoriului românesc, dar continuă să monitorizeze situaţia. Și premierul Marcel Ciolacu a ținut să liniştească populaţia. Pe de altă parte, el i-a cerut ministrului Agriculturii să creeze un mecanism pentru protejarea agricultorilor români în faţa exporturilor ucrainene de cereale ieftine. Guvernul a adoptat, joi, un act normativ prin care va subvenționa 50% din motorina folosită în lucrările agricole de anul trecut. De acest sprijin vor beneficia peste 360.000 de fermieri. Bugetul total este de aproximativ 60 de milioane de euro, proveniți din fonduri europene şi din bugetul naţional.

    Problema Schengen, din nou, în cancelariile europene

    Preşedinta Comisiei Europene, Ursula von der Leyen, a cerut, miercuri, la Strasbourg, în discursul privind starea Uniunii, ca România şi Bulgaria să fie incluse cât mai rapid în spaţiul Schengen, fără a oferi, totuși, o soluţie clară pentru depăşirea opoziţiei Austriei, singura ţară din Uniunea Europeană care continuă să fie împotrivă. Argumentul dnei von der Leyen său a fost că gestionarea fenomenului migraţiei se face cu succes. Cu o zi înainte, șefa Parlamentului European, Roberta Metsola, a făcut un apel la fel de apăsat, argumentele sale fiind, de această dată, de natură economică: amânarea intrării în spaţiul de liberă circulație a persoanelor și mărfurilor le provoacă românilor și bulgarilor un prejudiciu dublu – le limitează dreptul la liberă mişcare şi generează costuri suplimentare pentru economiile lor.Menţinerea României în afara spaţiului Schengen implică pierderi economice de până la 2% din PIB. Economişti independenţi au calculat prejudiciul României la 200 de milioane de euro pe lună.

    Sportivi români în lume

    Jucătoarea de tenis Simona Halep, fostă numărul 1 mondial, a fost suspendată 4 ani din competiţii. Anul trecut, la US Open, a fost testată pozitiv pentru roxadustat, folosit pentru tratarea anemiei, însă considerat un ameliorator de performanţe. Un tribunal independent a acceptat că Simona Halep a consumat un supliment nutritiv contaminat, însă a decis că acest lucru nu poate explica volumul de roxadustat din organism. Acelaşi tribunal a descoperit nereguli şi în paşaportul biologic al sportivei, aparent din cauza dopajului. Simona Halep a anunţat că va contesta decizia. Dacă veștile din tenis nu au fost deloc bune săptămâna aceasta, în schimb cele din volei și canotaj le-au contrabalansat. România a ocupat locul 7, cea mai bună clasare a sa din ultimii 42 de ani, la Campionatul European de volei masculin. Iar la Mondialele de canotaj a obținut 5 medalii – 2 de aur, 1 de argint şi 2 de bronz, reuşind, totodată, să califice 11 echipaje la Jocurile Olimpice de anul viitor, de la Paris.

Românii au marcat prin Nicolae Stanciu, în minutul 83, şi Valentin Mihăilă, în minutul 90+3. România ratase un penalty în minutul 58 prin Nicolae Stanciu şi avea superioritate numerică din minutul 42. Partida a fost întreruptă de arbitru în minutul 18 deoarece un grup de suporteri români de la peluza Sud au afişat bannerul ”Kosovo e Serbia”, meciul fiind reluat după 50 de minute.


    Federaţia Română de Fotbal a condamnat comportamentul iresponsabil al suporterilor de la peluza Sud, iar Jandarmeria Bucureşti a identificat 458 de persoane care au făcut parte din grupul de suporteri care a comis fapte antisociale. În celelalte două meciuri din grupă, Elveţia a dispus cu 3-0 de Andorra, iar Israelul a învins Belarus cu 1-0. În clasamentul grupei conduce Elveția cu 14 puncte, urmează România cu 12 puncte, Israel 11 puncte, Belarus 4 puncte, Kosovo 4 puncte, Andorra 2 puncte.



    Federaţia Română de Baschet a lansat noua identitate a ligilor naţionale de seniori, masculină şi feminină. În urma unui parteneriat comercial cu Getica 95 în valoare de 500.000 de euro, cele două competiţii vor purta numele noului sponsor, Liga Naţională de Baschet Masculin Getica 95 şi Liga Naţională de Baschet Feminin Getica 95. ”Liga naţională masculină şi cea feminină, pentru prima dată, au un sponsor comun, ceea ce arată că egalitatea de gen funcţionează” a spus Carmen Tocală, preşedinta Federaţiei Române de Baschet.



    Jucătoarea română de tenis Simona Halep a fost suspendată pe o perioadă de patru ani pentru dopaj, a anunţat marţi Agenţia Internaţională pentru Integritate în Tenis. Agenția a anunțat că decizia supendării a fost luată în baza a două acuzații: identificarea substanţei interzise roxadustat la US Open în 2022 și cea legată de paşaportul biologic. Simona Halep a anunțat că va face apel împotriva deciziei.

    Federaţia Română de Baschet a lansat noua identitate a ligilor naţionale de seniori, masculină şi feminină. În urma unui parteneriat comercial cu Getica 95 în valoare de 500.000 de euro, cele două competiţii vor purta numele noului sponsor, Liga Naţională de Baschet Masculin Getica 95 şi Liga Naţională de Baschet Feminin Getica 95. ”Liga naţională masculină şi cea feminină, pentru prima dată, au un sponsor comun, ceea ce arată că egalitatea de gen funcţionează” a spus Carmen Tocală, preşedinta Federaţiei Române de Baschet.



    Jucătoarea română de tenis Simona Halep a fost suspendată pe o perioadă de patru ani pentru dopaj, a anunţat marţi Agenţia Internaţională pentru Integritate în Tenis. Agenția a anunțat că decizia supendării a fost luată în baza a două acuzații: identificarea substanţei interzise roxadustat la US Open în 2022 și cea legată de paşaportul biologic. Simona Halep a anunțat că va face apel împotriva deciziei.

After a year in which she could not participate in tournaments, the Romanian tennis player was suspended for a period of four years for doping.     été faite par l’Agence Internationale pour l’Intégrité pour le tennis. Selon
    cette source, Simona a violé deux règles anti-dopage. La première est un test
    urinaire positif au roxadustat lors de l’US Open 2022, qui avait lancé la mise
    à l’écart de la Roumaine. Le deuxième concerne des irrégularités relevées sur
    le passeport biologique de l’ex-numéro 1 mondiale sur l’année 2022, sur la base
    de 51 échantillons de sang. Le principe du Passeport biologique de l’Athlète
    (PBA) est basé sur le suivi au fil du temps de variables biologiques
    sélectionnées qui révèlent indirectement les effets du dopage, par opposition à
    la détection directe traditionnelle du dopage au moyen d’analyses.

    Le tribunal
    a accusé Simona Halep d’avoir violé en toute connaissance de cause le protocole
    anti-dopage. Même si les juges ont accepté l’argument de l’athlète d’avoir
    ingurgité des suppléments contaminés, ils ont établi que le volume avalé ne
    pouvait pas justifier la concentration de Roxadustat identifiée dans
    l’échantillon positif. « Choquée et déçue » par le verdict, Simona
    Halep a annoncé son intention de faire appel de cette décision devant le
    Tribunal arbitral du sport de Lausanne.

    Par ailleurs, elle a également affirmé
    porter plainte contre la compagnie lui ayant fourni les suppléments alimentaires
    contaminés. « Cette dernière année a été la plus difficile de ma vie et
    malheureusement, le combat est loin d’être terminé. J’ai consacré toute ma vie
    à ce beau sport qu’est le tennis. Je prends très au sérieux les règles qui
    gouvernent ce sport et je m’enorgueillis de n’avoir jamais ingurgité de bon gré
    la moindre substance interdite. Je refuse d’accepter ma suspension pour
    quatre ans » a déclaré la joueuse de tennis, dans un communiqué. Elle
    affirme avoir présenté au tribunal des preuves d’innocence révélatrices, y
    compris des questions légitimes quant aux résultats des tests figurant dans son
    passeport biologique.


    Par ailleurs,
    elle a exprimé sa gratitude envers sa famille, ses amis et ses fans du monde
    entier qui ont continué à la soutenir. Entre temps, la presse roumaine
    s’interroge sur une potentielle fin de carrière de cette grande sportive. Les
    commentateurs sportifs désavouent une théorie de la conspiration qui fait de
    plus en plus surface. L’annonce de la suspension de Halep est tombée la semaine
    même où la sportive avait quitté le classement WTA des meilleurs joueurs de
    tennis du monde. Même si un éventuel retour reste possible en octobre 2026 ou
    même avant, si le tribunal de Lausanne décide une diminution de la peine, il
    reste improbable qu’une sportive qui aura ses 32 ans fin octobre puisse revenir

    Sportiv de la Lausanne, în Elveţia. Totodată, a anunţat că va da în judecată
    compania care i-a furnizat suplimentele alimentare contaminate. Ultimul an a
    fost cel mai dificil meci din viaţa mea şi, din nefericire, lupta continuă.
    Mi-am dedicat viaţa frumosului joc de tenis. Iau foarte în serios regulile care
    guvernează sportul nostru şi mă mândresc cu faptul că nu am luat niciodată, cu
    bună ştiinţă sau nu, o substanţă interzisă. Refuz să accept decizia lor de
    suspendare pe patru ani,     a declarat românca într-un comunicat.     Ea susţine că a
    prezentat tribunalului dovezi convingătoare în apărarea ei, inclusiv numeroase
    întrebări legitime privind concluziile legate de testele din paşaportul
    biologic.


    Simona s-a declarat recunoscătoare pentru susţinerea pe care a
    primit-o din partea familiei, prietenilor şi fanilor tenisului din întreaga
    lume. Presa din România digeră greu vestea şoc a pedepsei, una care, confirmată
    la TAS, ar însemna, cel mai probabil, sfârşitul carierei pentru marea glorie a
    tenisului şi a sportului românesc în general.

    Comentatorii probi dezavuează, pe

    sunt tentaţi să adere. Anunţul suspendării a venit chiar în săptămâna în care

    tentativă de revenire, în octombrie 2026, sau mai devreme dacă instanţa din Elveţia
    i-ar reduce pedeapsa, ar presupune, oricum, un efort sisific, pe care
    specialiştii nu îl văd posibil la o sportivă care împlineşte, la finalul lunii,
    32 de ani.
