    Election – The Romanian government will officially set the date of the presidential election this week, after the leaders of the governing coalition (PSD-PNL-UDMR) decided, on Wednesday, at the first meeting of 2025, that the presidential election should take place on May 4th and 18th. A large protest was organized on Sunday, in Bucharest, by the opposition Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), where people requested the resumption of the second round of the presidential election and the resignation of President Klaus Iohannis. The leader of AUR, George Simion, announced that the protests would continue. The Constitutional Court canceled last year’s presidential election on the grounds that the entire electoral process was flawed.

     

    Culture Day – As every year on January 15, Romania will mark the National Culture Day on Wednesday. This is also celebrated in the Romanian-speaking Republic of Moldova, as well as in the diaspora, in the context of celebrating in 2025 175 years since the birth of Mihai Eminescu, considered the greatest Romanian poet. Cultural and educational institutions, NGOs and authorities have prepared events in different more or less conventional spaces to bring culture closer to the public. Among other things, on Tuesday evening, a National Culture Awards Gala will be organized in Botoşani (north-east), during which prizes will be awarded for excellence in culture, for the promotion of Eminescu’s work and of Romanian culture in general or for the development of Romanian literary studies internationally.

     

    Tennis – The Romanian tennis player Jaqueline Cristian obtained a difficult victory, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 against the Croatian Petra Martic, on Monday, in Melbourne, in the first round of the Australian Open tournament, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. Also on Monday, in Melbourne, the Romanian Sorana Cîrstea was defeated by the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-4. Svitolina has defeated Cîrstea in all four straight games so far. Anca Todoni, coming from the qualifications, also lost in the first round, on Sunday, against the Chinese Qinwen Zheng. Tuesday will see the match between the last Romanians from the main singles draw, Irina Begu and Gabriela Ruse, who will play against each other.

     

    Visa waiver – Romanian citizens will be able to travel to the United States, after March 31, through a simplified procedure, after the American authorities granted Romania the status of a country participating in the Visa Waiver Program. According to a press release from the Romanian embassy in Washington, Romanians will be able to go to the USA based on an electronic authorization called ESTA, this being applied to all trips for tourist or business purposes whose duration does not exceed 90 days. The authorization will be valid for two years, with unlimited entries or exits from the US. To participate in the Visa Waiver Program, a country must meet requirements related to counterterrorism, immigration enforcement, document security and border management. The requirements also include a visa refusal rate of less than 3%.

     

    Croatia – The acting president of Croatia, Zoran Milanovic, won with a crushing score the decisive round of the presidential election on Sunday for a new 5-year mandate at the helm of the country. A socialist with populist views, Milanovici is credited with over 74% of the votes in front of his opponent supported by the conservative right-wing Government. Unlike the Executive, he criticized the military aid provided by the West to Kyiv, which made him be labelled as a pro-Russian, which destroys the country’s credibility within NATO and the European Union. The press agencies also note that the presidential election in Croatia took place in the context in which this country with less than 4 million inhabitants is facing the highest inflation rate in the Eurozone, endemic corruption and an acute lack of work force.

     

    Fires – A total of 24 people have died due to the California wildfires, according to an updated death toll. Residents evacuated because of the fires are flocking to checkpoints set up by law enforcement, hoping that they can recover belongings from their homes or simply to see if the houses still exist. Firefighters estimate that people will not be able to return home before Thursday, so they were promised that a system will be put into operation to check the condition of the homes online. Many areas look like after a bombardment, the international press reports and the power lines and gas pipelines still represent a major danger. (LS)

    BUDGET The Romanian Prime Minister, Marcel Ciolacu, has today said the government must endorse the 2025 budget by January 27 at the latest and has called on ministers to make all the calculations needed, which must also include job-slashing, in both the central administration and subordinated state-owned institutions. Finance Minister, Tanczos Barna, had earlier given assurances the budget draft this year would observe a deficit limit of 7% of the GDP, under the agreement with the European Commission. For 2025 Barna forecast an economic growth of 2.5% and an inflation rate of 5%.

     

    PROTEST About 2000 people protested on Friday in front of the Parliament building in Bucharest a December 6th ruling by the Constitutional Court (CCR) on canceling the presidential elections in Romania. The protesters say the ruling infringes upon the will of the electorate and have called for the resumption of the election process. People took to the streets at the proposal of the former independent candidate, Calin Georgescu, a pro-Russia extremist, who had won the first round of the presidential election in Romania. Authorities say the protest is illegal. We recall the CCR cancelled the election after the country’s Higher Security Council had revealed foreign hybrid interferences in the election process and evidence on the undeclared funding of Georgescu’s campaign. Calin Georgescu has challenged the CCR ruling in court and at ECHR. The new ruling coalition PSD-PNL-UDMR has decided the presidential election take place on May 4 and 18.

     

    VISAS The elimination of the US visas for the Romanian citizens will be officially recorded today at the US Department for Homeland Security in Washington. Technical details as well as the date of the effective activation of the Visa Waiver programme will be made public during the event today. According to Romania’s ambassador in Washington, Andrei Muraru, the Romanians travelling to the USA as tourists and for business will no longer have to give interviews at the US Consulate in Bucharest and pay for getting a visa. The only thing they are going to need is an electronic permit. People can also apply for US visas as these are valid for 10 years allowing them to stay for a maximum period of 6 months. The Romanians who want to study and work in the USA must apply for visas though.

     

    STRIKE The Foreign Ministry in Bucharest has cautioned the Romanian citizens traveling to Italy that the country’s transport network has been affected by nation-wide strikes. Railway transportation has been disrupted until midnight and only a couple of routes are still operational, such as those linking airports to the big cities and those crossing the peninsula. Workers in three airports in northern Italy have gone on strike and local transportation in all Italian cities has been interrupted four hours today. Teachers in Italy’s pre-university education are on strike, also calling for better working conditions and a revised payment politics. In another development, Belgium will also see this weekend a series of demonstrations involving the workers in public transportation and education; all these actions are expected to affect public transportation in Brussels and around the country.

    Romania to enjoy more freedom of movement

    2025 will go down in history as the year when Romanians earned the right to travel freely both to the Schengen area and to the United States. On Wednesday, Schengen member states gave the green light to Romania’s and Bulgaria’s full entry into Schengen from 1st January 2025. The decision was taken unanimously within the
    Committee of Permanent Representatives in the European Union (COREPER) and is confirmation that no member state is opposed to the entry of the two countries, with the official approval to be given by the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council in a couple of weeks.

    The Schengen accession of Romania and Bulgaria had until recently been blocked by Austria, which now says it is no longer opposed, admitting that illegal migration figures went down. Controls on Schengen air and maritime borders had already been lifted for Romania and Bulgaria at the end of March this year.

    President Klaus Iohannis hailed Romania’s full Schengen entry, saying in a social media post that this was a decision Romanian citizens had long-awaited. “Congratulations citizens of Bulgaria and Romania! You have waited for so long! You belong to Schengen. And you should benefit in full from Schengen freedoms”, said the European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson. Hungary’s permanent representative to the European Union, ambassador Bálint Ódor, said “With this decision, we will strengthen unity, free movement, and resilience across the EU. It’s a win for Bulgaria, Romania, and all of Europe”.

    Also on Wednesday, the US State Department announced that Romania met the criteria for entering the Visa Waiver Program as its visa refusal rate dropped below 3%. This year, around 80,000 Romanian citizens applied for US travel visa, with a record number of 78,000 being accepted. The announcement of the State Department was welcomed by the Romanian government, which said that fulfilling this goal would further consolidate Romania’s relationship with the United States.

    Romanian citizens will be able to travel visa-free to the US from 2025, giving this generation the chance to strengthen the friendship with the American people and to build a more prosperous partnership, said Andrei Murnu, Romania’s ambassador to the US. Andrei Muraru:

    “The announcement of the moment when Romania enters the Visa Waiver program is imminent. We are expecting it to be made at the beginning of January, with the actual entry into the program to take place sometime at the end of March or the beginning of April.”

    Until then, the foreign ministry in Bucharest says it stays committed to finalising the implementation of the necessary measures, both in the run-up to the adoption of the Visa Waiver decision, and later, as part of a constantly developing security context.

    ALERT A new RO-Alert message was issued for the northern part of ​​Tulcea County (south-eastern Romania), after the national defence and security structures detected a possible attack by the Russian Federation on some targets on the territory of Ukraine. These messages are aimed at informing the people in the Romania-Ukraine border area that there are possible Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory and that some objects might fall on Romanian territory. The Romanian defence ministry firmly condemns once more these attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, which are unjustified and are serious breaches of international law.

     

    WARNING The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly advises Romanian nationals who are in Lebanon to leave that country by the air routes still available. The travel warning regarding major security risks is still valid, and commercial flights and travel routes may also be affected, according to the ministry. Some 1,136 Romanian citizens and their family members have so far registered their presence in Lebanon, at the Romanian Embassy in Beirut. On the ground, Iran announced that its attack on Israel had ended, after it launched more than 180 missiles in its direction on Tuesday night. Tehran says it targeted the infrastructure of the enemy state. According to international media, targets included the headquarters of the Israeli intelligence service, Mossad, as well as the most important air base, Nevatim, which is also used by Israel’s F- 35 long-range stealth strike fighter fleet. According to the Radio Romania correspondent in Israel, there is no information regarding the loss of human life and damages.

     

    VISA WAIVER Romania meets all the technical conditions to be part of the Visa Waiver Program, the Romanian ambassador to the US, Andrei Muraru, said in a social media post. He also said that Romanians would most likely be allowed to travel visa-free in the first half of next year. “Should all the conditions and preparations proceed successfully, the program could take effect sometime in 2025” the US ambassador to Romania, Kathleen Kavalec, said on Tuesday. However, Ambassador Kavalec said, a number of important steps still need to be completed in the coming months to establish whether Romania is, in fact, eligible to participate in the Visa Waiver Program.

     

    ELECTIONS The president of the National Liberal Party in the ruling coalition in Romania, Nicolae Ciucă, has officially entered his candidacy in the presidential election with the Central Electoral Bureau. He has submitted lists of over 1.5 million signatures supporting his bid. Also today, the president of the Democratic Union of Ethnic Hungarians has also announced his candidacy, after gathering over 270,000 signatures. So far, candidates for the top position in the Romanian public administration also include George Simion (AUR party), Elena Lasconi (USR party), and Călin Georgescu, running independently. The deadline for entering candidacies for the presidential election is October 5, and lists of at least 200,000 supporters are required. The first round of the presidential election is scheduled on November 24, and the second one on December 8.

     

    NATURAL GAS OMV Petrom, a corporation in which the Romanian government holds 20% of the stock, announced that 2027 will see the first natural gas supplies extracted via the “Neptun Deep” project. “Neptun Deep” is the largest natural gas project in Romania’s exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea and the first Romanian deep-water offshore project. OMV Petrom says works on the gas platform to be installed in 2026 have already started in shipyards in Italy and Indonesia. The platform will be approx. 140 high, with a 40 sq m base and will weigh over 7,000 tone. It will support the upper section of the Neptun platform, an element of the infrastructure required for the development of natural gas deposits. OMV Petrom also pointed out that “Neptun Deep” will contribute to the country’s energy security.

     

    DEFENCE The Romanian defence minister, Angel Tîlvăr, had an official meeting on Wednesday with his Portuguese counterpart, Nuno Melo. The 2 officials discussed the Romanian-Portuguese cooperation in the defence and security sector, both in bilateral terms and as members of NATO and the EU. other topics on the agenda included the Black Sea security situation and measures to consolidate NATO’s defence and deterrence posture on the Eastern flank. Angel Tîlvăr appreciated Portugal’s contribution to joint exercises and activities, the country’s commitment as part of the NATO Enhanced Vigilance Activities, with the deployment of a military unit to the Multinational Brigade South-East, headquartered in Craiova, and its presence in other Allied structures on Romanian territory.

     

    TENNIS The Romanian player Simona Halep made her comeback to professional competitions, with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win against Arina Rodionova (Australia), in the first round of the WTA 125 tournament in Hong Kong. A former WTA leader, Halep last played in May, when she was forced to exit the first round at Trophee Clarins, in Paris, in a match against McCartney Kessler (US). In Hing Kong, Halephas secured 15 WTA points, and in the round of 16 she will face Russia’s Ana Blinkova, the 2023 winner of the Transylvania Open. (AMP)

    Romanians to enjoy visa-free travel to the US?

    Romania formally fulfils all technical criteria for entering the US Visa Waiver program and Romanian citizens would most likely be able to travel visa-free to the US starting the first part of 2025, Romania’s ambassador to Washington Andrei Muraru posted on social media. Andrei Muraru:

    “The US fiscal year ended, and the one remaining condition Romania still had to fulfil has been fulfilled. We are, of course, waiting for confirmation from our American partners, but our assessment based on the number of visa applications this year and the downward trend seen in recent years is that Romania’s visa refusal rate fell under 3%. Eliminating visas for US travel is the best recognition of the irreversible solidarity between the Romanian and the American people.”

    However, the US ambassador to Bucharest Kathleen Kavalec was keen to point out that Romania is still to make some important steps in the coming months to be truly eligible for the Visa Waiver program. She said further talks would be held this autumn between the two governments to review Romania’s adherence to a series of security measures agreed previously, adding: “In the event of a favorable decision being taken by the U.S. Government to include Romania in its Visa Waiver Program, we anticipate that there will be a period of careful preparation and public information-sharing before any changes in the current visa requirements can be implemented. Visa refusal rate data for all visa waiver country aspirants is usually published no later that January. Should all the conditions and preparations proceed successfully, the program could take effect sometime in 2025.”

    Romania’s prime minister Marcel Ciolacu promised, after talks with the US diplomat, that his government remained committed to making the next formal steps to see Romania enter the Visa Waiver program. The country’s foreign minister Luminiţa Odobescu recently emphasised during talks in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, the special importance of Romania’s entering the Visa Waiver program and said she received positive signals in this respect. She said it was a team effort that must be continued until the goal is achieved.

    The Romanian government previously committed to fulfilling technical criteria for Visa Waiver by 30th September this year. Joining the program would allow Romanian citizens to travel to the US without visas for a period of up to 90 days and for tourist and business purposes.

If all conditions and preparations are done successfully, the programme could come into effect in 2025’, the US ambassador to Romania, Kathleen Kavalec said on Tuesday. However, according to the US official, there are still major steps to be taken in the next months in order to see whether Romania is eligible for the Visa Waiver programme. In turn, Prime Minister Ciolacu said during his meeting with the US official in Bucharest that the government would remain involved in everything that means the accomplishment of all procedures needed to have Romania included in the Visa Waiver programme.

     

    NATO The former Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, on Tuesday became the new NATO Secretary General during a ceremony held at the North-Atlantic Alliance’s headquarters in Brussels. Rutte, who took over from the Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg, thanked the allies for trusting him with the role. Rutte detailed the three priorities of his four-year mandate: support for Ukraine, consolidating the collective allied defence and developing the international partnerships NATO already concluded with third countries. From Bucharest, Prime Minister, Marcel Ciolacu, has conveyed a congratulation message to the newly-appointed NATO Secretary General, in which he has also expressed his gratitude for the activity of the former NATO Chief, Jens Stoltenberg.

     

    ME Israeli raids in southern Lebanon on Tuesday triggered a new wave of international concern. Also on Tuesday, the Israeli army announced it had hit several Hezbollah targets in capital Beirut, although it had earlier announced that its troops would limit their operations only to regions close to the common border. Numerous airline companies have cancelled their flights to the area and Western countries have started to evacuate their citizens from Lebanon. Bucharest has announced that over 11 hundred Romanian citizens and family members have registered at Romania’s embassy in Beirut. The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a level 8-9 warning for this country in October last year, which translates as ”Avoid any trip to Lebanon”. The warning is still in place due to the major security risks in the area. The Romanian diplomacy has firmly recommended the Romanian citizens on the Lebanese territory to leave the country by means of the flights still available.

     

    PARLIAMENT Convened in a joint session on Tuesday, the Romanian deputies and senators appointed the members of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Romania. According to political sources, the current governor Mugur Isărescu, who has been holding this position since 1990, is supported for a new mandate at the helm of BNR. Also on Tuesday, the Parliament submitted for approval two requests from President Klaus Iohannis – the participation of the Romanian Army in the NATO Security Assistance and Training Mission for Ukraine and the establishment, on the Romania territory, of a maritime training facility for the Ukrainian personnel. The two Parliament chambers will be informed, on the other hand, about the approval of the transit, through Romania, of equipment and material goods donated by Sweden to Ukraine, but also about the presence on the Romanian territory, for a period of two years, of an American contingent of naval forces for special operations.

    PENTECOST Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Christians in Romania celebrate today the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles of Jesus, a feast day also known as the Pentecost and in Romanian as “Rusalii”. The Pentecost is a symbol of the establishment of the Christian Church, 50 days after the Resurrection of Christ and 10 days after Ascension Day. Believers evoke the moment when the Holy Spirit gave the 12 Apostles the gift of speaking many languages to preach to the crowds, and when the first 3,000 people were baptised, thus establishing the first Christian community.

     

    DIPLOMACY Romania has made progress towards inclusion in the US “Visa Waiver” programme, the Romanian foreign minister Luminiţa Odobescu told Radio Romania, at the end of a visit to Washington. According to her, “there has been substantial progress in the legislative area, with the relevant legislation already adopted by the Romanian side. There has also been progress in terms of visa renewal, so as to get the visa refusal rate below 3%. I am taking this opportunity to further request support for visa renewal, because we need as many approved visas as possible, a lot is still to be done and we hope we will be able to reach this goal as soon as possible.” In Washington, the Romanian diplomacy chief had a number of meetings with senior US officials, including the secretary of state Antony Blinken.

     

    MIGRANTS Eleven migrants from Bangladesh, Syria, Ethiopia and Egypt have been caught trying to cross the Romanian border into Hungary illegally. They were hiding in metal rolls carried on a lorry driven by a Turkish national. The illegal migrants, aged 15 to 40, were trying to get into the Schengen area. They are now probed into for attempted illegal border crossing, while the driver may be charged with migrant smuggling.

     

    FITS The 31st Sibiu International Theatre Festival (FITS), offers the public on its 3rd day a wealth of theatre performances, music, circus and exhibitions. Today’s highlights include an organ concert by Stefan Donner, a circus performance titled “YouGur”, and the play “Scandal behind the scenes”. According to the organisers, the 10-day festival comprises 830 events: theatre performances, music, dance, circus, exhibitions and public reading sessions will bring together over 5,000 artists from 82 countries.

     

    EU Next week the European Union starts its accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The EU Council’s Belgian presidency announced the official opening will take place on June 25, and that the 2 countries’ accession roadmaps will be assessed separately. The EU Council brings together the 27 Member States, which have already approved the accession and negotiation frameworks for the 2 candidate states. Chişinău and Kyiv submitted their candidacies shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

     

    FOOTBALL Romania lost 2-0 to Belgium, on Saturday night in Cologne, but remains top placed in the most evenly balanced group at the European Football Championship. Romania, Belgium, Slovakia and Ukraine all have 3 points each ahead of the last round in Group E, with better goal differences for Romania and Belgium. Romania’s decisive match for qualification in the eighth-finals is scheduled on Wednesday against Slovakia, in Frankfurt. Moving up into the next stages of the competition are the top 2 teams in each group and the best 4 third-ranking teams in each group. (AMP)

    Protestations – Les fermiers et les routiers roumains ont annoncé renoncer à leurs protestations après s’être mis d’accord avec le premier ministre, Marcel Ciolacu. L’accord conclu entre les deux parties prévoit la mise en place d’un Comité interministériel qui réunit les associations des professionnels du domaine, mais aussi des représentants des fermiers et des camionneurs non affiliés. Le comité, placé sous la direction de la Chancellerie du premier ministre commencera ses activités lundi. « On espère bien collaborer avec les institutions publiques. Voilà pourquoi, en ce moment, nous allons débloquer les routes et rentrer chez nous pour travailler la terre » a affirmé l’un des agriculteurs protestataires.


    Alerte
    – Au bout de trois semaines consécutives pendant lesquelles le nombre de cas
    d’infections respiratoire a constamment augmenté, les autorités sanitaires de
    Roumanie ont décidé de déclarer l’état d’alerte épidémiologique. De son côté,
    le ministre de la Santé Alexandru Rafila prévoit une diminution du nombre de
    cas d’ici la fin du mois ce qui évitera au pays de déclarer l’état d’épidémie.
    Le responsable de la Santé a expliqué que cet « état d’alerte épidémiologique »
    permet au système médical de mieux se préparer pour le scénario où le nombre de
    cas continue à grimper.




















    Débat
    – Le chef de l’Etat roumain, Klaus Iohannis, aura une allocution au Parlement
    européen dans le cadre du débat « C’est l’Europe », a annoncé vendredi
    l’Administration présidentielle. M. Iohannis s’adressera aux députés le
    mercredi, 7 février, pour exposer son point de vue sur les défis auxquels
    l’Europe est confrontée et sur les actions communes qu’il faudrait entreprendre
    pour défendre et promouvoir les intérêts des Européens, tout en œuvrant à leur
    bien être. Dans ce contexte, Klaus Iohannis aura des discussions avec la
    présidente du Parlement européen, Roberta Metsola, sur des sujets d’actualité
    et sur les priorités de l’agenda européen sur 2024.




    Corruption
    – Le chef du conseil départemental de Prahova (dans le sud du pays), le libéral
    Iulian Dumitrescu a été placé sous contrôle judiciaire pour 60 jours. Il est
    accusé par les procureurs anticorruption d’avoir touché 16 millions de lei,
    soit 3,2 millions d’euros, de pot-de-vin de la part d’un homme d’affaires qui
    avait signé un contrat avec le Conseil départemental. Iulian Dumitrescu a démissionné
    de toutes ses fonctions au sein du Parti national libéral, pour ne pas porter
    atteinte à l’image des libéraux. À noter que Iulian Dumitrescu était un des
    quatre premiers vice-présidents du Parti National Libéral, qui partage la
    gouvernance avec le Parti Social-Démocrate. Par ailleurs, le maire du
    département de Botosani, le social-démocrate, Cosmin Andrei, a été placé, lui
    aussi, sous contrôle judiciaire pour 60 jours, suite à un décret émis vendredi
    par les procureurs anti-corruption. Il est accusé d’avoir aidé l’une des
    participantes à un concours de recrutement organisé en 2021, par la Mairie, à
    décrocher le poste, en lui donnant les réponses aux questions d’admission.














    Citoyenneté
    – Un projet de loi qui vise à combattre l’obtention illégale de la citoyenneté
    roumaine a été soumis au débat public par le Ministère de la Justice. Selon un
    communiqué, la révision de la Loi de la nationale est un pas nécessaire que la
    Roumanie devrait faire si elle souhaite adhérer au programme Visa Waiver. Le
    nouvel acte normatif est censé durcir les procédures d’obtention de la
    citoyenneté roumaine. La Roumanie a besoin d’un cadre normatif simple,
    prédictible et stable, a affirmé le Ministère de la Justice dans un communiqué.


    Parlement
    – Le parlement de Bucarest a entamé jeudi son avant-dernière session, avec
    plusieurs projets à mener à bon terme avant les prochaines élections. Les
    sénateurs et les députés sociaux-démocrates et libéraux se donnent pour
    principal objectif l’adoption des projets prévus dans le cadre du Plan national
    de relance et de résilience (PNRR) afin que le pays puisse se voir accorder les
    fonds européens qui lui sont alloués. Lutter contre le trafic de drogue ou plafonner
    les taux d’intérêt pour les crédits obtenus auprès des institutions de
    financement non bancaires, tout cela figure parmi les priorités des
    sociaux-démocrates. Ceux-ci souhaitent aussi adopter un projet de loi pour
    supprimer les jeux de hasard des villes et des communes. Les libéraux, eux,
    souhaitent l’exonération d’impôts des pensions de retraite inférieures à 600 €,
    la suppression de la double imposition dans le cas des pensions de retraite
    prévues par le deuxième pilier, la lutte contre le trafic et la consommation de
    drogue, ou encore l’interdiction des publicités aux jeux d’argent. L’Union
    Sauvez la Roumanie, en opposition, (USR) plaide pour la suppression des régimes
    spéciaux de la retraite, notamment dans le cas des élus locaux. De son côté, le
    parti ultra nationaliste de l’Alliance pour l’Union des Roumains (AUR) propose
    des mesures législatives visant à accroître le salaire minimum, à réduire les
    taxes sur les revenus ou encore à majorer le montant des bourses sociales pour
    les élèves.






    Natation
    – Huit sportifs, à savoir cinq nageurs et trois plongeurs, représentent la
    Roumanie au Championnat du monde de natation qui ont lieu jusqu’au 18 février, à
    Doha, au Qatar. Le grand absent de cette compétition et le roumain, David
    Popovici, double champion européen de 100 m et 200 m nage libre. A la tête de

    În primii ani postbelici, unul dintre miturile împărtăşite de mulţi români anticomunişti era că doar venirea americanilor va pune capăt ororilor trăite sub dictatura instalată de trupele sovietice de ocupaţie. Aliate în Primul şi în ultima parte a celui de Al Doilea Război Mondial, România şi Statele Unite avuseseră o relaţie cordială până la instalarea comunismului şi a fost nevoie de Revoluţia din 1989 pentru ca aceasta să revină la normal. Azi, cele două ţări sunt aliate în NATO şi legate de un parteneriat strategic care va împlini, în curând, trei decenii. Tocmai consolidarea relaţiei bilaterale în cadrul acestui parteneriat, includerea României în programul Visa Waiver şi securitatea în zona Mării Negre sunt mizele vizitei pe care-o face în Statele Unite şeful guvernului de la Bucureşti, Marcel Ciolacu.

    România a fost şi este un partener şi un aliat foarte apreciat, iar cooperarea este mai strânsă ca niciodată – a afirmat şeful diplomaţiei americane, Antony Blinken, în cadrul întâlnirii cu premierul român. Acesta din urmă i-a promis secreatrului de stat că Executivul român va asigura în continuare un climat de investiţii sigur şi stabil, care să încurajeze firmele americane. Pentru includerea României în programul Visa Waiver, susţine premierul Ciolacu, s-au făcut paşi importanţi, anul viitor va veni şi anunţul oficial, iar din 2025 românii vor putea călători în Statele Unite fără vize. În perspectiva încheierii războiului din Ucraina, şeful Executivului este convins că România poate să devină un hub pentru companiile americane care vor să participe la reconstrucţia ţării vecine, devastată de trupele ruse de invazie.

    Marile realizări ale noastre după Revoluție sunt apartenența la Uniunea Europeană, la NATO și parteneriatul strategic cu Statele Unite. Astăzi n-am fi vorbit de o democrație consolidată, de stabilitate și n-am fi dormit liniștiți în România fără acest parteneriat. Îmi doresc foarte mult ca în Statele Unite să devină cel mai important investitor direct în România în toate domeniile și cel mai important investitor non-UE – a mai spus premierul Ciolacu în America. Pe agenda vizitei sale au fost incluse şi întâlniri cu secretarul pentru Energie în Executivul de la Washington, Jennifer Granholm, precum şi cu cel de la Apărare, Lloyd Austin. România, i-a promis Ciolacu celui din urmă, îşi va menţine angajamentele de a aloca 2,5% din Produsul Intern Brut pentru Apărare şi va continua să pledeze pentru un profil sporit al Mării Negre pe agenda NATO. Potrivit trimisei Radio România, şeful Pentagonului a apreciat eforturile Bucureştiului pentru stabilizarea situaţiei regionale, perturbată de invazia rusească din Ucraina, precum şi progresele făcute în domeniul apărării, prin modernizarea echipamentelor şi infrastructurii militare şi consolidarea securităţii cibernetice

    Der Besuch des rumänischen Premierminister Marcel Ciolacu in den USA begann im Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, wo er der Opfer des Völkermords im Zweiten Weltkrieg gedachte. Anschlie‎ßend traf er mit Vertretern der rumänischen Gemeinschaften aus den Bundesstaaten Washington, Virginia und Maryland zusammen. Rumänien müsse Partnerschaften mit Unternehmen aus entwickelten demokratischen Ländern aufbauen, sagte der Premierminister beim Treffen mit den US-Rumänen. Dies sei insbesondere in heutigen au‎ßergewöhnlichen Sicherheitskontext notwendig, umso mehr Rumänien die längste Grenze zur Ukraine habe.



    Ohne unsere gro‎ßen Errungenschaften nach der Revolution — die Mitgliedschaft in der EU und der NATO sowie die strategische Partnerschaft mit den Vereinigten Staaten — würden wir heute nicht von einer gefestigten Demokratie und Stabilität in Rumänien sprechen können. Und wir würden in Rumänien auch nicht ruhig schlafen können, wenn es diese Partnerschaft nicht gegeben hätte.“



    Die rumänischen Staatsbürger können nur durch den Ausbau der öffentlichen Dienstleistungen und der Infrastruktur in ihrer Heimat gehalten werden, fügte Ciolacu hinzu und betonte, dass Rumänien auf dem richtigen Weg sei. Es sei viel in die Infrastruktur investiert worden, und nächstes Jahr werde es trotz des Superwahljahres Reformen im Haushaltssystem geben, versicherte noch der Ministerpräsident.



    Wenn wir das nicht tun, läuft Rumänien ab dem nächsten Jahr Gefahr, erhebliche Beträge aus dem Nationalen Wiederaufbau- und Resilienzplan sowie aus europäischen Fonds zu verlieren. Meiner Ansicht nach ist dies die letzte günstige Gelegenheit für Rumänien, seine Entwicklung voranzutreiben. Wenn wir die angestrebten Projekte und Reformen sowie den Beitritt zur OECD in der nächsten Zeit verpassen, wird Rumänien keinen so günstigen Zug mehr erwischen.“




    Ciolacu sagte noch, er hoffe, dass die USA in allen Bereichen der wichtigste Direktinvestor in Rumänien und der wichtigste Nicht-EU-Handelspartner Rumäniens werden. Auf diese Weise würde auch die rumänische Diaspora einen Weg finden, besser mit dem Heimatland zu kommunizieren.



    Während der Gespräche mit Vertretern der rumänischen Gemeinschaften verwies Ciolacu auch auf die Bemühungen, Rumänien in das Visa-Waiver-Programm für visumfreies Reisen seiner Bürger in die USA aufzunehmen. Er sagte, dass die Befreiung von der Visumspflicht im Jahr 2025 Realität werden wird.



    Die US-Botschafterin in Rumänien, Kathleen Kavalec, die bei dem Empfang in Washington D.C. anwesend war, bestätigte, dass es Fortschritte bei der Aufnahme Rumäniens in das Programm gibt, das Rumänen die visumfreie Einreise in die USA für bis zu 90 Tagen ermöglichen würde. Nach US-Recht können die Bürger eines Landes von der Visabefreiung profitieren, wenn die Ablehnungsquote bei Einreiseanträgen unter 3 % liegt. Im Zeitraum 2020–2021 lag die Ablehnungsquote für Rumänien allerdings bei 17 %.



    Die Befreiung von der Visumspflicht würde viele Vorteile bringen: Tausende von Rumänen würden nicht mehr wochen- oder gar monatelang auf die Bearbeitung ihres Einreiseantrags warten und dabei Gefahr laufen müssen, dass ihr Visum abgelehnt wird. Beim Inkrafttreten des Visa-Waiver-Programms würde au‎ßerdem die Gebühr von 185 Dollar entfallen. Derzeit sind die einzigen EU-Länder, deren Bürger nicht visumfrei in die USA einreisen dürfen, Rumänien, Bulgarien und Zypern.

    The Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu started his official visit to the USA at the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, where he commemorated the victims of the genocide of the Second World War.     Romanians can only be kept in the country by developing public services and infrastructure, he added, and Romania is on the right track. There are major investments in infrastructure, and next year, although it is an electoral year, reforms will be made in the budget system.



    Marcel Ciolacu: If we don’t do this, starting next year Romania risks losing important sums from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan – PNRR as well as European funds. From my point of view, it is Romania’s last train to catch. If we lose the projects and reforms from the PNRR and the accession to the OECD in the next period, Romania will no longer catch such a favorable train.



    Marcel Ciolacu stated that he hoped that the USA would become the most important direct investor in Romania in all fields and the most important non-EU commercial partner of Romania. In this way, he said, the diaspora will find the way to communicate better with the home country. During the discussions with the representatives of the Romanian community, Marcel Ciolacu also referred to the efforts to include Romania in the Visa Waiver program. He said that the visa waiver will become a reality as of 2025.     participa, de joi şi până pe 1 octombrie, la cea de-a 28-a ediţie a Târgului
    Internaţional de Carte de la Budapesta. Ministerul Culturii a informat, printr-un
    comunicat transmis AGERPRES, că a pregătit un program de evenimente la care au
    fost invitaţi să participe autorii Alina Nelega, Mihai Radu, Florin Irimia şi
    Horia Gârbea, alături de traducătorii Andras Orsolya, Szocs Imre, Szonda
    Szabolcs şi Lajos Nagy. Evenimentele se vor desfăşura la standul naţional
    situat în complexul expoziţional Millenaris, zona B, poziţia G1, unde vor fi
    lansate volumele în limba maghiară ale autorilor prezenţi la târg, iar la
    sediul ICR Budapesta va avea loc o dezbatere literară cu participarea tuturor
    invitaţilor. Participarea României la cea de-a 28-a ediţie a Târgului
    Internaţional de Carte din Capitala Ungariei este asigurată de Ministerul
    Culturii, în parteneriat cu ICR Budapesta.




    Ambasadoarea Statelor
    Unite la Bucureşti, Kathleen Kavalec, a declarat, la Oradea, că România va
    adera la programul de scutire de vize Visa Waiver, cel mai devreme la începutul
    anului 2025. ‘Nu poate fi mai devreme de 2025, pentru că avem de măsurat anual
    rata de respingere. Dacă totul va fi bine, probabil, la începutul anului 2025.
    Sperăm. Nu este garantat. Depinde de multe lucruri ce se pot întâmpla, dar eu
    cred că ne aflăm pe drumul cel bun,’ a declarat ambasadoarea SUA. Aceasta s-a
    aflat luni la Oradea, pentru a vernisa expoziţia itinerantă ‘Noi, Poporul/We
    the People’, care celebrează aniversarea a 25 de ani de Parteneriat strategic
    dintre Statele Unite ale Americii şi România. Cele 30 de panouri mari, cu 150
    de fotografii, realizate de-a lungul timpului, într-un sfert de secol, vor
    putea fi admirate, timp de aproape o lună, în faţa Primăriei Oradea. Titlul
    expoziţiei, ‘Noi, Poporul’, este inspirat de preambulul Constituţiei Statelor
    Unite ale Americii. Oradea este al optulea oraş în care a fost prezentată
    această expoziţie aniversară, retrospectivă, care este realizată de Ambasada
    SUA, în parteneriat cu Ministerul Afacerilor Externe al României, Agenţia
    Naţională de Presă Agerpres şi în colaborare cu Universitatea din Craiova.


    România aşteaptă
    şi merită o decizie pozitivă în timpul preşedinţiei spaniole a Consiliului
    Uniunii Europene cu privire la extinderea spaţiului Schengen, a declarat, marţi,
    preşedinta Parlamentului European (PE), Roberta Metsola, într-un interviu
    organizat de European Newsroom pentru agenţiile implicate în acest proiect
    media european. Bulgaria şi România doresc să devină membre ale spaţiului de
    liberă circulaţie, dar Austria şi Olanda au blocat o decizie pozitivă la
    Consiliul JAI din decembrie anul trecut, invocând drept motiv un control
    insuficient al fluxurilor de migranţi. În discursul său anual privind starea
    Uniunii Europene, rostit la începutul lunii în plenul Parlamentului European la
    Strasbourg, preşedinta Comisiei Europene, Ursula von der Leyen, i-a cerut
    Austriei să permită intrarea României şi a Bulgariei în Schengen ‘fără nicio
    întârziere’. Până la încheierea Preşedinţiei spaniole a Consiliului UE, la
    sfârşitul anului, mai sunt programate trei reuniuni ale Consiliului miniştrilor
    de interne din UE: pe 28 septembrie, 18 octombrie şi 4 decembrie.




    Cu mult înainte
    ca tancurile ruseşti să încalce suveranitatea Ucrainei, Moldova vulnerabilă era
    deja supusă la tipul de agresiune şi strategii ruseşti care au devenit ulterior
    şi soarta Ucrainei    , a declarat, luni, la Madrid, Majestatea Sa Margareta,
    Custodele Coroanei Române, aflată în vizită în Regatul Spaniei. Ea a vorbit la
    sediul din Madrid al Institutului Regal Elcano pentru Studii Internaţionale şi
    Strategice despre contextul ‘turbulent’ de pe continentul nostru, ‘în care
    pericolele cu care ne confruntăm sunt presante’    , felicitând totodată Spania
    pentru actuala preşedinţie a Consiliului Uniunii Europene. O preşedinţie ale
    cărei priorităţi sunt, a amintit Majestatea Sa, ‘securitatea, precum şi
    susţinerea valorilor democratice şi a statului de drept’    .

    Moldova, a mai
    spus custodele Coroanei Române, a fost
    unul dintre primele teritorii ex-sovietice ce a experimentat tehnicile de
    destabilizare ale Moscovei, care ne sunt acum familiare tuturor. Obiectivul pe
    care mi l-am asumat, cu sprijinul atât al Guvernului României, cât şi al celui
    al Republicii Moldova, este acela de a mă asigura că Republica Moldova nu este
    consumată de tragedia care afectează acum Ucraina, că guvernul ei reformator
    este sprijinit în atingerea obiectivului său şi că poporului Moldovei i se
    permite să-şi decidă propriul viitor, în loc să fie decis de alţii    , a mai spus
    Margareta. Ea a salutat decizia de anul trecut a Uniunii Europene de a acorda
    Moldovei statutul de ţară candidată.

    Majestatea Sa Margareta, alături de Alteţa
    Sa Regală Principele Consort Radu, efectuează, săptămâna aceasta, o vizită în
    Regatul Spaniei, care cuprinde o întrevedere cu Regele Felipe al VI-lea şi
    Regina Letizia, dar şi întâlniri cu reprezentanţi ai comunităţii din România şi
    Republica Moldova.

    FADERE, Federaţia asociaţiilor de români din Europa, cere Guvernului României găsirea de urgenţă a unor soluţii de stopare a plecării românilor din ţară. Potrivit asociației, evoluţia economică a ţării, proasta funcţionare a serviciilor publice, corupţia la nivel de funcţionar, lipsa infrastructurii şi serviciile sanitare nesigure din România sunt doar câteva dintre motivele pentru care românii aleg să plece din ţară. Cel mai probabil, măsurile pe care Guvernul României urmează să le ia cu privire la eliminarea facilităţilor fiscale în domeniile agriculturii, construcţiilor şi IT vor face ca numărul românilor care vor părăsi ţara să crească în următoarea perioadă. FADERE trage un semnal de alarmă şi cere Guvernului României ca, în următoarele decizii, să se ţină cont şi de politici prin care numărul celor care pleacă să scadă şi poate chiar să se ajungă la o începere a întoarcerii acasă.



    Asociaţia Spune-mi o poveste pentru sufletˮ anunţă lansarea proiectului 10 cărţi pentru 1000 de copii români din diasporaˮ. Acest proiect este realizat cu sprijinul Departamentului pentru Românii de Pretutindeni şi se derulează în perioada iunie-noiembrie, în comunităţi româneşti din afara graniţelor. 1000 de copii români din Austria, Belgia, Elveţia, Franţa, Germania, Grecia, Italia şi Spania participă la ateliere interactive de poveşti în limba română, susţinute de profesori şi de voluntari din comunităţile lor. În plus, fiecare dintre cei 1000 de copii va primi câte un set de 10 cărţi scrise şi ilustrate de Veronica Iani, singură sau în colaborare cu dr. Eliza Maria-Cloţea, cu dr. Cristina Stoian sau cu Elena Ciolacu, artist vizual. Pe lângă un consistent fond de carte, Asociaţia Spune-mi o poveste pentru sufletˮ pune la dispoziţia organizaţiilor partenere materiale necesare bunei desfăşurări a atelierelor de poveşti şi asigură formarea povestitorilor. Simona Irimia, coordonatoarea proiectului, afirmă că unii copii din diaspora vorbesc limba română îndeosebi în familii şi în cadrul restrâns al grupurilor de apartenenţă, în timp ce alţii participă la cursurile şi la programele şcolilor sau ale asociaţiilor româneşti înfiinţate cu mari eforturi de românii din afara graniţelor ţării. Şi pentru unii, şi pentru ceilalţi, cunoaşterea nuanţată a limbii materne, exersarea acesteia, învăţarea unor elemente definitorii de cultură şi de civilizaţie românească sunt esenţiale, explică Simona Irimia.



    Conform Planului de învățământ pentru anul școlar 2023/2024 al Liceului din Borisăuca a Consiliului orășenesc Tatarbunar, liceul trece la predare bilingvă, respectiv în limba maternă a minorității naționale, limba română, și limba ucraineană, în concordanță cu noua legislație în domeniul educației școlare din Ucraina, notează BucPress. Potrivit președintelui Asociației Basarabia, Anatol Popescu, revenirea la denumirea LIMBA ROMÂNĂ, după un sfert de veac de limbă moldovenească”, reimpusă în regiune de autoritățile de la Kiev și Odesa imediat după semnarea tratatului de prietenie și bună vecinătate cu România din 1997, are loc pe fundalul unui val masiv de cereri ale părinților elevilor din liceu. Anatol Popescu menționează că, la îndemnul Consiliului Național al Românilor din Ucraina, începând cu decembrie 2019, majoritatea școlilor în care mai activează clase cu predare în așa zisa limbă moldovenească din sudul Basarabiei, regiunea Odesa, au înaintat Ministerului Educației de la Kiev cereri colective. Aceștia solicită revenirea la programa de învățământ pentru școlile cu predare în limba română, programă după care studiază școlile similare din comunitățile istorice românești din regiunile Cernăuți și Transcarpatia.



    Consulul onorific al României în Connecticut, Dana Roxana Bucin, avocat specializat în imigrări şi drept internaţional din SUA, se implică în campania de informare a românilor pentru admiterea ţării în programul Visa Waiver, al cărei scop este reducerea ratei de refuz a vizelor pentru Statele Unite ale Americii sub 3% în următorul an fiscal. În acest sens, consulul onorific a încurajat românii care deţin o afacere sau au un angajament stabil, care doresc să viziteze Statele Unite, să aplice pentru vize în perioada 1 octombrie 2023 – 1 octombrie 2024. România şi-a propus ca, până la final de 2024, să scape de obligaţia de a cere viză de intrare în SUA, dar pentru ca acest lucru să se realizeze, trebuie fie să crească numărul românilor acceptaţi în SUA, fie să scadă numărul celor respinşi.

    Statele Unite ale Americii
    sunt angajate să sprijine România să se alăture programului Visa Waiver cât mai
    curând posibil, a declarat asistentul principal adjunct al secretarului de stat
    din cadrul Biroului pentru Afaceri Europene şi Eurasiatice al Departamentului
    de Stat al SUA, Dereck Hogan    . Acesta a spus că instituţii din cele două ţări
    discută de mai multe luni despre paşii care trebuie făcuţi în domeniul
    schimbului de informaţii, în aşa fel încât România să îndeplinească toate
    cerinţele atunci când vine vorba de informaţii legate de terorism şi transferul
    acestora, precum şi despre rata de refuz a vizelor care trebuie să scadă.
    În această chestiune am avut o delegaţie care a venit săptămâna trecută
    pentru a se întâlni cu toate părţile relevante din Guvernul României pentru a
    discuta în mod specific despre ce fel de informaţii trebuie să le ofere
    românilor autorităţile din România pentru a îndeplini toate cerinţele
    procesului de acordare de vize’    , a explicat oficialul american. Hogan a
    menţionat că a discutat cu prim-ministrul român Nicolae Ciucă despre acţiunile
    concrete pe care Guvernul de la Bucureşti le poate întreprinde în această
    chestiune şi a adăugat că Executivul va oferi detalii. Pentru a adera la programul
    Visa Waiver, România trebuie să înregistreze o rată de refuz a acordării
    vizelor pentru Statele Unite de sub 10 procente. Rata de refuz a fost de 17,03%
    în 2021, de 10,14% în 2020 şi de 9,11 procente în 2019, conform Departamentului
    de Stat al SUA.




    Arhiepiscopul de Canterbury,
    Justin Welby, care se află într-o vizită în România, a avut o întrevedere cu
    secretarul de stat pentru afaceri globale şi strategii diplomatice Traian
    Hristea.     Cei doi au discutat despre războiul din Ucraina şi provocările interne
    şi externe pe care acesta le generează, despre situaţia refugiaţilor ucraineni
    şi despre dificultăţile politice şi economice cu care se contruntă Republica
    Moldova. Secretarul de stat s-a referit şi la cei peste un milion de cetăţeni
    români care trăiesc, în prezent, în Regatul Unit şi i-a mulţumit
    Arhiepiscopului pentru sprijinul acordat acestora prin facilitarea desfăşurării
    de slujbe religioase în lăcaşurile de cult ale Bisericii Anglicane, ca element
    important în păstrarea identităţii. MAE transmite că, la rândul său, Justin
    Welby a exprimat aprecieri la adresa românilor din Marea Britanie, despre care
    a spus că sunt bine integraţi în societate şi au o contribuţie relevantă la
    economia britanică. Lider spiritual al Bisericii Anglicane din întreaga lume,
    Arhiepiscopul de Canterbury a condus, în ultimul deceniu, ceremoniile
    religioase majore ale Angliei şi ale familiei regale britanice, precum
    comemorarea Ducelui de Edinburgh şi funeraliile de stat ale Reginei Elisabeta a
    II-a. El va fi, de asemenea, cel care va conduce ceremonialul încoronării
    regelui Charles al III-lea, care va avea loc, în luna mai, la Abaţia
    Westminster.




    Spectacolul de muzică,
    coregrafie și poezie, intitulat Capital poetic fără frontiere va
    avea loc, pe 16 martie, la sediul Ambasadei României în Franţa.     Evenimentul,
    organizat împreună cu reprezentanţa la Paris a Institutului Cultural Român,
    este parte a proiectului francez de anvergură Primăvara poeţilor,
    care se derulează în toată Franţa între 11 – 27 martie şi are ca temă a acestei
    ediţii Frontierele. Organizatorii au transmis că tema aleasă pentru acest an a
    fost influenţată de războiul din Ucraina, conflict despre care apreciază că a
    avut drept motiv frontierele. Spectacolul îi are ca invitaţi pe compozitorii
    Mihaela Vosganian, Horia Surianu, Alexandru Gherban, pe poeţii Muriel Augry,
    Linda Maria Baros, Carole Mesrobian, Davide Napoli, pe dansatoarele Eliza Felz,
    Michiko Fou, pe actorul Fabien Merlino şi pe violoncelistul Andrei Kivu.




    Scriitoarea Ioana Nicolaie
    se alătură autoarelor Salcia Hałas din Polonia și Indrė Valantinaitė din Lituania
    la două evenimente literare care vor avea loc în Stockholm și în Umeå.     Pe 16
    martie, acestea vor participa la a doua ediție a evenimentului Room Of World
    Poetry, organizată la sediul Institutului Cultural Român din capitala Suediei,
    în parteneriat cu Institutul Cultural Lituanian, Ambasada Lituaniei și
    Institutul Polonez. Al doilea eveniment constă într-o discuție organizată în
    cadrul Festivalului Internațional de Literatură din Umeå, cu titlul Perspective
    din Europa Centrală și de Est cu privire la Noua Europă. Festivalul, care
    atrage anual peste 20.000 de participanți și peste 150 de invitați, se va
    desfășura în perioada 16-18 martie.

    Cererea României de a fi inclusă în programul Visa Waiver este legitimă, însă nu există garanţii că acest pas se poate face imediat, a declarat, la Bucureşti, senatorul american democrat Dick Durbin. El a spus că ştie că eliminarea vizelor pentru călătoriile în SUA înseamnă mult pentru români şi că îşi doreşte ca ei să fie trataţi corect. Durbin a precizat însă că problema e legată de rata de refuz de peste 10%, în condiţiile în care, pentru ca România să intre în programul Visa Waiver, rata de refuz trebuie să scadă sub 3 procente. Congresman-ul şi colega sa din Senatul american Jeanne Shaheen s-au aflat în România la finalul unui turneu european, care a inclus participarea la Conferinţa de Securitate de la Munchen şi o vizită în Georgia. Shaheen a spus că cei doi au convenit cu ambasadoarea SUA să lucreze cu România asupra chestiunii eliminării vizelor, însă a recunoscut că ar fi foarte dificilă o schimbare de legislaţie în Congresul SUA şi că trebuie să se lucreze în parametrii legali existenţi. Rata de refuz a acordării vizelor pentru cetăţenii români a fost de 17,03% în 2021, de 10,14% în 2020 şi de 9,11 procente în 2019, conform Departamentului de Stat al SUA.

    Ministerul român de Externe a anunţat suspendarea activităţii Centrului Rus pentru Cultură şi Ştiinţă din România. Ambasadorul Rusiei la Bucureşti, Valery Kuzmin, a fost convocat la sediul MAE pentru a fi notificat cu privire la decizia autorităţilor române. Diplomatului rus i-au fost reamintite situaţiile repetate în care Centrul s-a angajat deliberat în acţiuni de prezentare distorsionată a realităţii şi a adevărului istoric la nivelul opiniei publice româneşti, se arată într-un comunicat de presă emis de minister. Potrivit MAE, derapajele s-au intensificat după invadarea ilegală a Ucrainei de către armată rusă. Prin acţiunile derulate, centrul s-a îndepărtat iremediabil de obiectivele fireşti de consolidare a legăturilor culturale şi s-a transformat, în mod regretabil, într-un instrument de propagandă, dezinformare şi disculpare a crimelor de război ale Federaţiei Ruse din Ucraina, a transmis Ministerul român de Externe. Suspendarea activităţii Centrului va avea loc până cel târziu la 20 august, data limită la care trebuie finalizate procedurile administrative pe care această decizie le implică.

    O comisie mixtă interguvernamentală pentru colaborare economică România – Republica Moldova va fi înfiinţată imediat după începerea activităţii Agenţiei Române pentru Investiţii şi Comerţ Exterior, a anunţat Ministerul român al Antreprenoriatului şi Turismului. Propunerea a fost înaintată în timpul unei întrevederi pe care ministrul de resort, Daniel Cadariu, a avut-o cu ambasadorul Republicii Moldova în România, Victor Chirilă. Ministerul transmite că s-a discutat despre intensificarea colaborării în domeniul turismului şi organizarea în comun a unor evenimente promoţionale şi că dezbaterile vor fi aprofundate cu ocazia participării demnitarilor din cele două state la Târgul de Turism al României, care va avea loc în perioada 23 – 26 februarie, la expoziţia Tourism. Leisure. Hotels, programată la Chişinău între 6 şi 9 aprilie, precum şi în cadrul unui grup de lucru comun al experţilor în turism. În 2022, volumul total al schimburilor comerciale ale României cu Republica Moldova a fost de 3,56 miliarde de dolari. România ocupă prima poziţie după numărul societăţilor înregistrate în stânga Prutului, cu 1.557 de firme cu capital integral sau parţial românesc, şi locul 2 după valoarea capitalului subscris, respectiv 320 milioane de dolari.

    Scriitoarea de limbă română și spaniolă Ioana Gruia participă la a doua ediţie a Festivalului Internațional de Literatură Scriitori, care are loc la Málaga, Sevilla, Granada și Almería, în perioada 22-25 februarie. Autoarea se alătură altor 30 de scriitori invitați din America Latină și Europa. Manifestarea include dezbateri, ateliere, recitaluri, conferințe și evenimente colaterale, expoziții și concerte. La 23 februarie, Ioana Gruia va participa la dezbaterea Poveștile vieții mele, care va avea loc la Granada, iar la 24 februarie, se va deplasa la Sevilla pentru a lua parte la dezbaterea Literatura, altă formă de dialog. Ioana Gruia predă Teoria Literaturii și Literatură Comparată la Universitatea din Granada. A publicat cărți de poezie și romane, care au fost traduse au fost traduse în franceză, albaneză și cehă. Prezenţa Ioanei Gruia la festival este sprijinită de Institutul Cultural Român de la Madrid. La ediţia de anul trecut, invitat din partea României a fost scriitorul Mircea Cărtărescu.
