Gala premiilor RRC revine pe scena Teatrului Odeon cu premii speciale

După doi ani de absență cauzată de pandemia de Covid 19, Radio România Cultural readuce singura gală care premiază toate domeniile culturii din România pe scena Teatrului Odeon din București. La evenimentul care va avea loc pe data de 18 aprilie, de la ora 19:00, vor fi acordate trei premii speciale și un premiu de excelență care vor recunoaște reușite și evenimente extraodinare din perioada pandemiei.

Premiul de excelență al Galei Premiilor Radio România Cultural va fi înmânat doctorului Cătălin Denciu și echipei secţiei de Terapie Intensivă a Spitalului Județean Piatra-Neamț, oameni care și-au pus viața în pericol pentru salvarea pacienților în timpul tragicului incendiu din 2020. Doctorul Cătălin Denciu a suferit atunci arsuri grave, oferind un exemplu eroic de sacrificiu și devotament.

Premiul special pentru educație îi va reveni platformei de pregătire la matematică MateX.xyz. Platforma a fost creată de 8 olimpici cu scopul de a-i pregăti online pentru Evaluarea Națională pe elevii săraci de clasa a VIII-a.

Premiul special pentru știință va fi acordat fondatorului Graphs.ro, Dragoș Vana. Platforma sa a prezentat, în fiecare zi, date privind evoluția pandemiei de coronavirus din România și informații despre campania de vaccinare anti-COVID. Început ca un proiect personal, cu resurse personale, în aprilie 2020, Graphs.ro a devenit o sursă de referință și un instrument indispensabil de urmărire a evoluției pandemiei din România.

Premiul special pentru literatură va fi decernat Librăriei La Două bufnițe din Timișoara, un proiect cultural de anvergură, pentru modul curajos în care a înfruntat pandemia, devenind un exemplu de supraviețuire culturală în dificilele zile ale lockdownului.

Începând din martie 2020, întreaga lume culturală a fost supusă unor încercări inimaginabile. Cultura fost cu siguranță unul dintre domeniile cele mai afectate, cele mai lipsite de ajutor. Cu toate acestea, au fost oameni, instituții, care au reacționat imediat și au făcut eforturi deosebite să rămână în atenția publicului și să facă lucruri de calitate pentru a aduce o rază de lumină și speranță în viețile tuturor. Radio România Cultural premiază doar câteva dintre aceste reușite dar suntem conștienți că numărul lor este mult mai mare și prin aceste premii le mulțumim tuturor.- Radu Croitoru, manager Radio România Cultural.

Cea de-a XXI-a ediție a Galei Premiilor Radio România Cultural va avea loc pe scena Teatrului Odeon, luni, 18 aprilie 2022, de la ora 19:00, și va fi transmisă în direct de Radio România Cultural și înregistrată și retransmisă de TVR.

Accesul la eveniment se va face pe bază de invitații care pot fi solicitate la numărul de telefon 021 303 1515, de luni până vineri, între orele 9:00 și 14:00, sau la adresa de email: cultural@rornet.ro.

WEATHER Yellow and orange-code alerts for heavy rainfall are in place in Romania, with unstable weather expected until at least midweek. Thunderstorms will first hit the south-west, west, centre and north of the country, and spread to the south and south-east beginning on Tuesday. The extreme weather has caused major damages in the west of the country over the past few days, with several parts of Alba County affected by flash floods.

FLOODING The death toll of the disastrous flooding in Western Europe is over 190, as many missing people are found dead. Germany reports the largest number of victims. Chancellor Angela Merkel visited some of the worst hit regions, and promised immediate aid from the federal government for reconstruction works, while also pledging more efforts will be made to fight climate change. The EU has announced it would provide aid both to Germany and to the other countries affected by floods, such as Belgium and the Netherlands. In Belgium, more than 30 people are dead and others are missing. Italy also sees heavy rainfalls causing floods in the northern and southern parts of the country.

COVID-19 The Romanian health minister Ioana Mihăilă said the 4th wave of the Covid-19 pandemic will affect unvaccinated people, and said less than 1% of those who have got the vaccine caught the disease. Ioana Mihăilă urged even those who recovered from the disease to get the vaccine, arguing that this would prevent a severe form of the Covid-19, even when the Delta variant is involved. In spite of continuing public campaigns promoting vaccination, the target of 5 million fully vaccinated Romanians is yet to be reached, over one and a half months after the deadline set by authorities. Meanwhile, 44 new infection cases were reported on Sunday in Romania, out of close to 19,000 tests. One new COVID-related death has also been reported, and 30 patients are in intensive care out of the 255 currently in hospital.

GALA The UNITER Awards Gala, rewarding the best Romanian theatre performances, is hosted by the National Theatre in Bucharest tonight. This is the 29th edition of the event, held annually since 1991. A jury makes the nominations for each category, while a separate jury votes the winner of each award.

FESTIVAL Tickets for the 25th George Enescu International Festival are available as of today. The festival, scheduled to take place between 28 August and 26 September, brings to Bucharest 3,500 Romanian and foreign artists. Healthcare measures will be in place this year, to protect the public, the artists, the organisers and journalists. Some of the worlds most celebrated orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the National Orchestra of France conducted by the Romanian Cristian Măcelaru, and the Munich Philharmonic conducted by Valery Gergiev, will take part in this years festival, alongside world-famous soloists like violinists Maxim Vengerov, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Joshua Bell, cellist Alisa Weilerstein and pianists Denis Matsuev, Jean Yves Thibaudet and Kirill Gerstein.

AGRICULTURE The Romanian agriculture minister Adrian Oros takes part today in the first meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council held under Slovenian presidency. One of the main topics on the agenda is the action plan for the development of organic agriculture. The European Commissions “Farm to Fork Strategy presented in 2020 aims at earmarking at least 25% of the blocs farmland for organic agriculture by 2030.

PANDEMIC Greece reintroduces COVID-19 restrictions in spite of the tourist season being in full swing. According to Radio Romanias correspondent in Athens, several Greek islands deemed free of COVID-19 are introducing night curfews and banning the access of unvaccinated people in restaurants and clubs. The Greek government will also make vaccination compulsory for several categories of employees. France tightens access restrictions for travelers from certain countries, including the UK, Spain, Greece and the Netherlands, who will be required to get tested 24 hours prior to arriving in the country. On the other hand, England lifted all restrictions today, in spite of alarming increases in the number of Delta variant infections. London argues that containment measures cannot be kept in place forever, and the vaccines provide protection. (tr. A.M. Popescu)

Coronavirus en Roumanie – La ministre roumaine de la Santé, Ioana Mihaila, affirme
que la 4e vague de la pandémie de coronavirus sera celle des
personnes non vaccinées. Elle précise aussi que moins de 1% des vaccinés ont
contracté le virus et exhorte la population à se faire immuniser pour éviter le
risque de développer une forme sévère de Covid-19, même s’il s’agit du variant
Delta. Malgré les appels constants des autorités et des différentes campagnes
de vaccination, le seuil des 5 millions de Roumains vaccinés au schéma complet
n’a toujours pas été franchi, alors que la date butoir en était le 1er
juin. Entre temps, la Roumanie a rapporté dimanche 44 nouveaux cas de
contamination au coronavirus sur environ 18 000 tests effectués et un décès des
suites de la Covid-19 survenu en 24h. Dimanche encore 255 malades de Covid
étaient hospitalisés, dont 30 en soins intensifs.

Coronavirus en Europe – La Grèce réintroduit des restrictions sanitaires en pleine saison
estivale. Selon le correspondant de Radio Roumanie à Athènes, dans plusieurs
îles grecques considérées jusqu’ici comme libres de covid, les autorités ont
imposé le couvre-feu dans la nuit et ont interdit l’accès des personnes non
vaccinées à l’intérieur des clubs et des restaurants. Le gouvernement d’Athènes
envisage d’imposer la vaccination obligatoire pour plusieurs catégories de
salariés, qui risquent de se voir licencier s’ils refusent l’immunisation. En
revanche, l’Angleterre a levé toutes les restrictions à compter de ce lundi, y
compris le port du masque, même si le nombre des infections au variant Delta du
coronavirus ne cesse de croître. Et pour cause : de l’avis du gouvernement
de Londres, les restrictions ne peuvent pas durer à l’infini, alors que les
vaccins protègent contre l’infection au coronavirus.

Agriculture -
Le ministre roumain de l’Agriculture participe ce lundi, à Bruxelles, au
Conseil Agriculture et Pêche, soit la première réunion organisée sous la
présidence slovène de l’UE. Parmi les points importants à l’ordre du jour
mentionnons le plan d’action pour le développement de la production écologique.
Par la stratégie « De la ferme au consommateur » présentée en 2020, la
Commission européenne lance son objectif d’utiliser au moins 25% des terres agricoles
de l’UE pour l’agriculture bio, à l’horizon 2030.

Festival Enescu
– Les tickets de la 25e édition du Festival international de musique
classique George Enescu ont été mis en vente ce lundi. Cette ample
manifestation culturelle aura lieu du 28 août au 26 septembre à Bucarest, soit
une durée record de 4 semaines pour accueillir 3500 musiciens roumains et
étrangers dans le respect des mesures sanitaires qui permettent de réduire au
maximum les risque sanitaire pour les participants – spectateurs, artistes,
organisateurs ou journalistes. Parmi les orchestres invités à Bucarest,
mentionnons l’orchestre symphonique de Londres, l’orchestre de la philharmonie
de Londres, orchestre de l’Académie de Saint Martin in the Field, l’orchestre
national de la France avec son nouveau chef, le Roumain Cristian Macelaru, ou
encore la Philharmonie de Munich ayant à sa tête Valéry Guerguiev.

Théâtre – Le gala de l’Union théâtrale de Roumanie (UNITER) qui
récompense les meilleures créations et performances du théâtre roumain a lieu
ce soir au Théâtre national de Bucarest, après une année de restrictions en
raison de la pandémie, durant laquelle l’activité des théâtres a été
sérieusement perturbée. La manifestation arrive à sa 29e édition.
Depuis, 1991, elle se tient chaque année et récompense, via un jury, les
meilleures performances théâtrales autochtones de l’année précédente.

Météo – La
semaine démarre en Roumanie par la chaleur et par une météo très instable. La
canicule persiste dans le sud, le sud-est et l’est, avec une alerte jaune à
l’inconfort thermique accentué et avec des maxima allant jusqu’à 36 degrés. En
même temps, des alertes jaune ou orange sont en vigueur dans le nord, le
nord-est, le centre, le sud-ouest et les montagnes. Ici l’on attend des pluies
à verse. La météo restera tout aussi capricieuse dans les 3 jours à venir. Et
les météorologues s’attendent à ce que les tempêtes et la pluie gagnent le sud
du pays à partir de mardi. Les précipitations pourraient atteindre les 60 l/m²
par endroits. Notons que cette météo extrême a causé de nombreux dégâts ces
derniers jours dans l’ouest de la Roumanie, notamment au département d’Alba,
dont plusieurs localités ont été ravagées par les inondations. 29 degrés à midi à Bucarest.

“Collective” und “Mein Zuhause”: zwei Dokumentationen auf der Gopo-Gala mehrfach preisgekrönt

Die 15. Gala der Filmpreise Gopo, die dem rumänischen Kino gewidmet ist, hat am 29. Juni in Anwesenheit von über 500 Gästen stattgefunden. Die Dokumentation “Collective”, unter der Regie von Alexander Nanau hat drei Gopo-Preise gewonnen: bester Spielfilm und beste Regie, sowie bester Schnitt (Alexander Nanau, George Cragg und Dana Bunescu). Der international mehrfach preisgekrönte Dokumentarfilm wurde dieses Jahr auch für zwei Kategorien der Oscars nominiert. Der Film von Alexander Nanau bietet zum ersten Mal einen Blick hinter die Kulissen der Schlüsselmomente, die sich nach dem tragischen Brand im Club Colectiv in Bukarest im Jahr 2015 abgespielt haben. Der Film dreht sich um eine Gruppe von Enthüllungsjournalisten auf ihrer beschwerlichen Reise zur Aufdeckung von Betrug, Korruption und Missständen im öffentlichen Gesundheitswesen. Der Film hatte seine Weltpremiere bei den Filmfestspielen in Venedig am 4. September 2019.

Die Dokumentation “Mein Zuhause”, des Regisseurs Radu Ciorniciuc wurde auf der Gopo-Gala mit dem Preis für den besten Dokumentarfilm, besten Debütfilm und den besten Ton ausgezeichnet. “Acasa” / “Mein Zuhause”, mit dem Radu Ciorniciuc sein Debüt als Dokumentarfilm-Regisseur gibt, feierte seine Weltpremiere auf dem Sundance Film Festival und gewann dort den Preis für das beste Bild. Der Dokumentarfilm erzählt die Geschichte einer Familie, die 20 Jahre lang in der Wildnis des Văcărești-Deltas lebte, bis der Ort den Status eines Schutzgebietes erhielt und zum Văcărești-Naturpark wurde. Der Regisseur Radu Ciorniciuc: “Meine Faszination für die Geschichte dieser Dokumentation hängt sehr stark mit der Art und Weise zusammen, wie diese Menschen ihre Familie aufgebaut haben. Zweitens war die absolut fabelhafte Beziehung der Kinder zur Natur ein weiteres Thema, das mir sehr viel bedeutete. Dann, nachdem die Familie Enache in die Stadt gezogen war, war ich natürlich daran interessiert, diesen Integrationsprozess zu verfolgen.”

Zwei Sonderpreise für ihre langen Karrieren wurden an die Filmkritikerin Magda Mihăilescu und den Modellbildhauer Enache Hărăbor vergeben. Magda Mihailescu ist Filmkritikerin und Autorin mehrerer Bücher über die Geschichte des Kinos. Sie gab ihr publizistisches Debüt 1969 mit der Monographie Sophia Loren”, gefolgt von Studien zur Geschichte des Kinos. Sie ist Autorin der Bände Die Giocondas ohne Lächeln – Gespräche mit Malvina Urșianu” (erschienen im Verlag Curtea Veche, 2006), François Truffaut – Der Mann, der Filme liebte” (Verlag Curtea Veche, 2009), Meine Schwester aus Australien – Vergangene Begegnungen mit Irina Petrescu” und unterzeichnet zusammen mit vier anderen europäischen Kritikern einen Band, der dem Werk des rumänischen Regisseurs Lucian Pintilie gewidmet ist: Guardare in faccia il male, Lucian Pintilie fra cinema e teatro” (Italien, Pesaro, 2004). Magda Mihăilescu hat für Rumänien exklusive Interviews mit gro‎ßen Filmemachern wie Federico Fellini, Sophia Loren, Ennio Morricone, Andrzej Wajda, Orson Welles, Laurence Harvey, Claude Lelouch, André Téchiné, Fanny Ardant, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Emir Kusturica geführt.

Natürlich freue ich mich über eine solche Auszeichnung und was ich besonders genie‎ße, ist, dass diese Auszeichnungen der Filmindustrie auch für uns offen sind, die Menschen, die über Filme schreiben. Ich freue mich für die Branche der Filmkritiker, einen Teil dieser gro‎ßen Welt des Films, einen Teil davon, was man jetzt Filmindustrie nennt, eine Branche wie eine Berufsfamilie, die man berücksichtigen kann und deren Meinungen und Ansichten manchmal Auswirkungen auf die Art und Weise haben können, wie Kino gemacht wird. Ich bin froh, dass es sie gibt.” Der Schauspieler Costel Constantin und die Bühnen- und Kostümbildnerin Doina Levintza wurden mit dem Gopo-Preis für die ganze Karriere geehrt.

COMMEMORATION The 2 chambers of the Parliament of Romania are holding a special session today to commemorate for the first time in their history the victims of the Iaşi pogrom of June 1941, ordered by the anti-Semitic authorities of the time, and in which over 13,000 Romanian Jews were killed. Attending the meeting are the president of Romania, Government members, former presidents, foreign diplomats in Bucharest, the head of the Royal House, the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church and other religious leaders, representatives of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania, of the Romanian Army, of the Romanian Academy, as well as Pogrom survivors or relatives of the victims. In a message sent on Tuesday, president Klaus Iohannis said unconcealed hatred, appalling violence, absolute disregard for human dignity were just some of the instruments used by the authorities of the time in implementing an abominable plan—that of cleansing the town of Iaşi of the Jewish locals. He emphasised that the Iaşi pogrom is not just a tragedy of Iaşi Jews, following the one of the Jews killed during the far-right rebellion earlier that year, but a tragedy and a responsibility to be carried by the Romanian nation ever since. When public institutions not only fail entirely to meet their natural obligations as to a countrys citizens, but also discriminate against, persecute and kill them mercilessly, then the rule of absolute evil and arbitrariness begins, Klaus Iohannis added.

GOVERNMENT The Government of Romania convenes to discuss 3 draft emergency orders. One of them brings changes to the law regulating police work, another has to do with regulations on sick leaves, and a third one with measures in the public pension system. On Tuesday, the Liberal Florin Cîțus Cabinet faced its first no-confidence motion, initiated by the main opposition party, the Social Democratic Party. The motion was backed by only 201 MPs, 33 less than the number required for the government to be dismissed.

COVID-19 The Government Tuesday passed an emergency order on the COVID digital certificate, which will be required for all citizens who intend to travel in EU countries. The certificate can be downloaded by people having received the vaccine, having recovered from the disease or having tested negative for the coronavirus. The certificate is valid for one year for those who are immunised, and for 180 days since the first positive SARS-CoV-2 test for those who had the disease. Meanwhile, the number of new cases and of Covid-19 related deaths remains low in Romania.

FILM The documentary ‘colectiv’ (“Collective), by Alexander Nanau, received the best feature award at the Gopo Gala devoted to the Romanian film industry. The film covers a journalist investigation into the corruption in the healthcare system, following the fire in the Colectiv night club in Bucharest, which killed scores of young people. “colectiv is the first Romanian film nominated for the Oscars in the best documentary and best foreign language film categories. Alexander Nanau also received a Gopo award for best director. The best leading actor and actress awards went to Mihai Călin and Diana Cavallioti, for their performances in the film ‘5 Minutes’. Actor Costel Constantin and set designer and costume producer Doina Levintza received lifetime achievement awards in the same Gala.

TENNIS Four Romanians are playing today in Wimbledon, the 3rd grand slam of the year. Ana Bogdan (92 WTA), Sorana Cirstea (no. 45) and Patricia Tig (63 WTA) are playing in the first round, whereas Irina Begu (no. 79), is trying to qualify into the 3rd round. We remind you that Romanias best tennis player, Simona Halep, no. 3 in the world and the current trophy holder, is not taking part in this years competition because of an injury. (tr. A.M. Popescu)

Le théâtre roumain en début d’année

« La dramaturgie roumaine daujourdhui commence à jouer un rôle de plus en plus important dans nos vies », déclarait Aura Corbeanu, vice-présidente de lUNITER (Union théâtrale de Roumanie), un manager de projets de théâtre avec une expérience et au professionnalisme avéré, dans le contexte où la compétition « Meilleure pièce roumaine de 2020 » bat son plein. La 29e édition du concours de théâtre ne reçoit que de nouveaux textes, qui nont pas été publiés ou joués jusquà présent. Pas de dramatisations. La pièce roumaine de lannée est et doit demeurer un projet, un repère de la vie théâtrale, même par temps de pandémie, dit Aura Corbeanu. La pièce gagnante sera primée sur la scène du Gala des Prix UNITER 2021, où les meilleurs représentants des arts du spectacle montent sur scène chaque année.

Radio Roumanie Internationale a longuement parlé du Gala des Prix UNITER et des changements qui ont marqué cet événement en 2020. Nous disions à lépoque que toutes les personnes présentes – en petit comité et en plein air, dans des conditions de pandémie – étaient daccord pour dire que les changements de cette période avaient marqué un point important dans lévolution de la vie culturelle en Roumanie.

Des changements et des mises à jour ont eu lieu au cours des dernières années, même avant la pandémie. Par exemple, deux masters en écriture dramatique se sont fait jour en Roumanie : lun à lUniversité darts du théâtre dans la ville transylvanienne de Targu Mureş, et lautre à lUniversité darts du théâtre et de cinématographie de Bucarest. Par conséquent, les attentes sont élevées, malgré les restrictions. La publication par lintermédiaire dune maison dédition spécialisée des textes sélectionnés dans le concours de dramaturgie relève maintenant de la tradition. Il reste aux directeurs de théâtres – publics ou privés –, aux réalisateurs et aux équipes artistiques dans leur ensemble, aussi, de se pencher sur les nouveaux textes. Et de transformer le texte gagnant du concours en spectacle. Il faut dire que ces dernières années, cest le Théâtre national de Bucarest (TNB) qui a assumé ce rôle. Ion Caramitru est le directeur général du TNB et président de lUNITER – on sattend donc à ce quil soit à lavant-garde de ceux qui se donnent pour tâche de promouvoir la dramaturgie nationale.

Dans ce contexte, notons que ces jours-ci à Bucarest et dans dautres villes, où les décideurs locaux ont profité de la baisse relative du nombre de personnes infectées par le nouveau coronavirus, plusieurs théâtres ont rouvert, en respectant toutes les règles sanitaires fixées par les autorités. Les billets ont été vendus très rapidement. Pourquoi ? Réponse bien argumentée avec Aura Corbeanu, vice-présidente de lUNITER :

« Il y a eu ce temps darrêt dans toutes les institutions ou lieux de spectacle… et nous avons tous besoin de théâtre, de bons textes, de jouer. Nous avons traversé une période dinquiétudes, de peurs et de souhaits difficiles à réaliser. Nous nous sommes transformés et adaptés. 2020 a été une année compliquée, au cours de laquelle il a fallu doubler defforts pour tout projet. Chaque créateur, chaque institution de projets culturels a été contraint dy penser en plusieurs variantes : en ligne, avec 30% daudience dans la salle, avec 50% de public dans la salle. Parce que tout le monde comprenait bien quil ny a aucun moyen de revenir à ce que nous connaissions avant la pandémie de sitôt. Je ne peux quexprimer mon admiration pour tous ceux qui représentent les arts du spectacle – tant dans le secteur public que pour ce qui est des arts indépendants. Parce quils ont essayé dêtre avec nous tous pendant cette période difficile, en utilisant de nouvelles formules. Après le silence des mois de mars, avril, mai 2020, nous avons tous vu les résultats remarquables de notre désir de découvrir des moyens ingénieux et des formules pour communiquer avec le public amateur de théâtre », a conclu notre interlocutrice. The Sofia Nadejde Awards Gala for Literature by Women

Todays edition is about the Sofia Nadejde Awards Gala for Literature by Women, held in Bucharest. The winners of this third edition were Sputnik in the Garden, by Gabriella Eftimie, Sonia Raises Her Hand, by Lavinia Braniste, Fotocrom Paradis, by Deniz Otay, and Marcels Children, by Ema Stere. The name of the gala is in dedication to a major figure in Romanian culture, Sofia Nadejde, the first woman in Romania to be allowed to hold her high school graduation in a boys gymnasium, the first woman to lead a literary magazine, and author of the first feminist novel in the history of Romanian literature.

The Sofia Nadejde Awards Gala for Literature by Women was held as part of the Sofia Nadejde Days event, which started in late August with an evening of short films made by women. Here is poet and journalist Elena Vladareanu, initiator of the gala:

“I was interested right from the start by this intersection of arts, and this year we have a partnership with the Romanian Association of Women in Cinema. As such, the writers nominated for fiction will take part in a series of meetings with the directors selected after the call issued by this association. It is equally important that, starting this year, we have a partnership with Scena.ro, the most important platform in the country dedicated to theater. Starting with the previous edition, Scena.ro grants a special drama award as part of the Sofia Nadejde Awards, and the prize this year went to Alexandra Pazgu, a very interesting playwright who has been living in Vienna for a few years, and who started writing in German. Speaking of this intersection of the arts, I would also like to emphasize the long term partnership with tranzit.ro, long term because we have been running a series of debates with them. In addition, tranzit.ro is a partner in this gala, they helped financially by offering one of the prizes. I think this intersection is very important, I also hope that we will be able to hold the workshop proposed by artist Liliana Basarab, a workshop centered on the book as an object, which starts off from the nominated books.”

At the gala, Sanda Cordos was awarded the special award A Room Just for Them, granted for the effervescence with which, for decades, she has been supporting contemporary Romanian literature with her articles. Gratiela Benga-Tutuianu critic and literary historian, is a member of the jury of the Gala:

“It is, in my opinion, a very good choice, because nothing bad can be said about Sanda Cordos and her persuasive criticism work. Also, this choice is an answer given to a reality that makes us sad most of the time. Because many times we have seen how critics and literary historians are still referring to the literature and criticism written by women in perpetual minority terms, and in thematic and stylistic stereotypes. And if we apply an honest reading to everything that Sanda Cordos has written, it is an answer to such criticism. Unfortunately, we are part of a literature that we still carve up into categories, male and female, and this boxing seems to me totally inadequate, because literature has to reflect the whole world, humanity means more than limiting oneself to a given formula.”

Poet and translator Alexandra Turcu and visual artist Liliana Basarab have been part of the Sofia Nadejde Awards for Literature by Women since the first edition. We talked to them about the need for such an event, and the reactions it elicited. Here is Alexandra Turcu:

“I realized that I wanted to help literature more than I wanted to write it, especially help literature by women, and for this reason I joined the initiative launched by Elena Vadareanu. I had various reactions, some of them negative after the first edition, and I got discouraged for a moment, but as time went by I realized that these awards are welcome, and they have grown from one edition to the next. Even if there are still unfavorable reactions to this project, I believe it is very important that we continue it. I believe this is precisely the idea of the awards, more than just granting some prizes, they want to dismantle prejudices towards literature written by women, and towards the place of women in the world in general.”

And here is Liliana Basarab:

“I had the feeling that I had very much to learn while working with the Sofia Nadejde Awards team, and that we were building them up together. As you have heard before, this initiative is not limited to giving out some prizes. The Sofia Nadejde Days include a lot of activities that come in recognition of womens creations, the more so that I see the need for such undertaking, and I hope this continues. I believe these awards have started to produce changes in mentality. Which Is why I think they should be continued, and we should find new ways of emphasizing the creations of women, which sometimes are not appreciate, or treated as minor art.”

Romanian film industry awards

Originally announced for the end of March, the Gopo Gala, which rewards the best Romanian films of the previous year, was rescheduled over the coronavirus pandemic and has taken place now, under the state of alert.

The event, held outdoors, saw its red carpet accompanied by a disinfection tunnel, and warnings regarding the 1.5m physical distancing rules were printed on cut-outs featuring the character created by Ion Popescu-Gopo, the one after whom the gala is named.

The COVID-19 pandemic was in fact mentioned by the host of the show, who was brought on stage in a special isolation stretcher by 4 people wearing protective coveralls: “a virus that took us into a difficult period, a virus which is more popular than any other film tonight.

The big winner of the Gopo Gala was “La Gomera, directed by Corneliu Porumboiu, which walked home with 9 trophies, including the ones for the best feature film, best director and best screenwriting. Upon receiving the award for the best script, Porumboiu mentioned the plot of the movie, which focuses on an island where whistling is used as a language: “I didnt learn how to whistle, but I think I managed to write a pretty good script.

The award for the best leading actor went to Iulian Postelnicu for his performance in Andrei Cohns “Arrest, and the best leading actress was Judith State, for the film “Monsters by Cătălin Mitulescu.

The winners thanked their teams and fellow filmmakers, but they also spoke about the film industrys need for concrete support. Producer Ada Solomon called for support when she received the award for the best documentary for “The distance between me and myself, by Dana Bunescu and Mona Nicoară. “Romanian cinematography speaks through animation, through documentary, through fiction, and these genres are increasingly intertwined. I believe a little more interest in the Romanian documentary is something we all deserve, Ada Solomon emphasised.

After the gala, the initiator and main organiser of the event, the film director Tudor Giurgiu told Radio Romania:

Tudor Giurgiu: “We were very happy to see the Gopo Gala take place physically, rather than online, because I think people need this kind of meetings, of socialising, with all the physical distancing requirements in place. And I also believe tonight was a miracle, the film community were happy to feel like, step by step, they are returning to life before the pandemic.

The special awards of this years edition went to writer Radu Cosaşu and film editor Cristina Ionescu for their exceptional careers, while actors Adela Mărculescu and Virgil Andriescu received lifetime achievement awards.

Le Gala des Prix Gopo

Prévu dans un premier temps pour le mois de mars, le Gala des Prix Gopo des meilleures productions cinématographiques de l’année précédente a été reporté de deux mois, en raison de l’état d’alerte. Déroulé en plein air, l’événement a tenu compte de toutes les mesures de restriction mises en place par les autorités : tapis rouge dans un tunnel de désinfection installé à l’entrée ou encore distanciation sociale d’1,5 mètre imposée aux participants grâce à des pancartes avec le petit bonhomme du grand dessinateur Gopo dont le nom a inspiré celui du gala.

Placé dans une civière dotée d’une coque transparente destinée au transport des patients contaminés et amené sur scène par quatre brancardiers habillés en combinaisons de protection, le maître de cérémonie a commencé son discours d’ouverture en faisant référence à la période pandémique actuelle. « Ce virus qui nous a fait traverser une période si difficile s’avère plus populaire que tous les films présentés ce soir ».

« Les Siffleurs » du cinéaste roumain Corneliu Porumboiu fut la grande vedette de la soirée après avoir réuni neuf trophées dont ceux du meilleur film, du meilleur réalisateur et du meilleur scénario. Présent sur scène, le réalisateur a déclaré, en faisant référence à son film qui se passe sur une île dont les habitants communiquent entre eux par des sifflements : « Je ne suis pas arrivé à siffler, mais bon, cela ne m’a pas empêché d’écrire un scénario pas mal du tout ».Le prix du meilleur acteur dans un rôle principal a été attribué à Iulian Postelnicu pour sa prestation dans le film « Arest » « /Dépôt d’Andrei Cohn, tandis que Judith State fut sacrée meilleure actrice pour son rôle dans le film « Les Monstres » de Catalin Mitulescu. Tous les gagnants ont profité de leur présence sur scène pour remercier leurs équipes et leurs collègues, mais aussi pour rappeler dans leurs discours le besoin de soutien financier pour l’industrie cinématographique roumaine.

Présente sur la scène du festival pour se voir remettre au nom des deux réalisatrices le trophée du meilleur film documentaire pour « La Distance entre moi et moi-même » de Dana Bunescu et Mona Nicoară, la productrice Ada Solomon a déclaré : « La cinématographie roumaine parle à travers des films d’animation, des films documentaires ou de fiction, autant de catégories qui se mélangent de plus en plus. Personnellement, je pense que le documentaire roumain mériterait un plus d’attention », a précisé Ada Solomon.

Dans une déclaration pour Radio Roumanie faite à l’issue du gala, l’initiateur et le principal organisateur de l’événement, le réalisateur Tudor Giurgiu, a dit :« Nous nous félicitons d’avoir pu organiser le Gala en vrai et non pas en ligne, car je pense que les gens ont besoin de se rencontrer, d’échanger, même en gardant nos distances. Je crois que ce qui s’est passé ce soir a été un miracle, car toute la communauté artistique a pu sentir un retour à la normale et à sa vie d’avant ».

Les prix spéciaux pour toute la carrière ont été attribués à l’écrivain Radu Cosasu, à la monteuse Cristina Ionescu et aux acteurs octogénaires Adela Marculescu et Virgil Andriescu.(trad. Ioana Stancescu)

Preise des öffentlich-rechtlichen Kultursenders ohne Gala bekanntgegeben

Die Gala des öffentlich-rechtlichen Kultursenders Radio România Cultural sollte Ende März im Bukarester Theater Odeon stattfinden, angesichts der Coronavirus-Pandemie wurden die Preise aber in einer Sondersendung am 30. März bekanntgegeben. Der Intendant des Kultursenders Radu Croitoru sagte über die Preisverleihung, die dieses Jahr bereits zum 20. Mal stattfinden sollte:

Niemand dachte, dass gerade dieses Jahr so etwas passieren würde. Wir hätten eine Jubiläumsausgabe feiern sollen und wir hatten sie sorgfältig organisiert. Dank den diesjährigen Gewinnern und den Sonderpreisen hätte es eine fabelhafte Veranstaltung werden sollen, aber wir sehen uns jetzt gezwungen, diese Preise in einem Studio bekanntzugeben. Wir wollten jedoch nicht gänzlich darauf verzichten, denn diese Preise ehren die Persönlichkeiten des kulturellen Lebens, die sich im Vorjahr in diesem Bereich durch besondere Initiativen verdient machten. Die Preise des Kultursenders Radio România Cultural sind sehr begehrt, und das ist den Redakteuren unseres Senders zu verdanken. Ihre Arbeit hat deutlich dazu beigetragen, dass sich jede Persönlichkeit des kulturelles Lebens in Rumänien zumindest eine Nominierung wünscht.“

Die Sonderpreise gingen dieses Jahr an die Choreographin Miriam Răducanu, die den Preis für besondere Leistungen erhielt, an den Verlag Humanitas, der mit dem Preis Radio România Cultural 20“ ausgezeichnet wurde, an den Komponisten Eugen Doga, der den Preis Lux Mundi“ erhielt, und an die Pianistin Adela Liculescu. Die Choreographin Miriam Răducanu ist eine der Kulturschaffenden von heute, die über die Grenzen Ihres Bereiches hinausgeht. Sie hat mehrere Generationen von Choreographen ausgebildet und genau wie ihre Vorgänger Gigi Căciuleanu und Gheorghe Iancu gro‎ße Künstler und Künstlerinnen entdeckt. Ihre berühmte Aufführung Nocturne“, die zum ersten Mal in den 1960er Jahren auf der Bühne des Bukarester Theaters Ţăndărică“ präsentiert wurde, hat sich weltweit eines gro‎ßen Erfolgs gefreut. Über die Auszeichnung durch den Kultursender Radio România Cultural sagte die Künstlerin:

Es ist mir eine gro‎ße Ehre, diesen Preis von Radio Rumänien zu erhalten. Hier arbeitet jetzt eine neue Generation von Kulturredakteuren und ich habe den Eindruck, dass ich sie seit immer kenne. Sie sind genau wie die vorangegangene Generation dieses Kultursenders, warme und gute Menschen, die wissen, dass die Kultur die Gesellschaft retten kann. Besonders in schwierigen Zeiten, wie wir sie gerade erleben, kann die Kultur Wunden heilen.“

Die Schriftstellerin Ioana Nicolaie erhielt den Preis von Radio România Cultural in der Kategorie Prosa für ihr Buch Cartea Reghinei“, der Preis für den besten Gedichtband ging an Angela Marcovici für den Band Tagebuch, das im dritten Teil des Tages geschrieben wurde“ und die Regisseurin Gianina Cărbunariu erhielt den Preis in der Kategorie Theater. Anca Damian erhielt den Preis des Kultursenders Radio România Cultural für Filmregie für die Produktion Maronas fantastische Reise“.

Heure – La Roumanie passe dans la nuit de samedi à dimanche à l’heure d’hiver. Donc 4 heures du matin deviendra 3 heures du matin, ce qui fait de ce dimanche la journée la plus longue de l’année, avec 25 heures. Ce passage ne modifie par l’horaire des trains. Ceux qui sont en marche après 4 heures, d’arrêteront à la prochaine station desservie pour stationner pendant une heure, jusqu’à la nouvelle heure de l’Europe Orientale. Vu que dans les pays voisins de la Roumanie, le passage à l’heure d’iver se fera le même jour, c’ést à dire le 27 octobre, entre les stations de frontière avec la République de Moldova, la Hongrie, la Sebie, la Bulgarie et l’Ukraine, les trains circuleront conformément aux horaires en vigueur. La commission européenne a proposé de renoncer au changement saisonnier de l’heure en Europe, offrant aux Etats Membres la liberté de décider s’ils souhaitent appliquer soit l’heure d’été, soit celle d’hiver. A partir de 2021, l’Union Européenne devrait renoncer au changement de l’heure.

Exercice
– Quelque 1400 militaires roumains et étrangers, avec 220 moyens techniques,
participent du 25 octobre au 8 novembre, à Cincu, au département de Brasov
(centre) à l’exercice multinational Scorpions Legacy 2019, a fait savoir le
bureau de presse de la Brigade multinationale du Sud-est de Craiova. L’objectif
en est d’instruire le personnel de la Brigade et celui des unités affiliées de
Bulgarie, d’Italie et du Portugal, par des exercices de commandement assistés
par ordinateur, exercices d’entraînement sur le terrain et exercices tactiques
de tirs de combat. Notons que le commandement de la Brigade multinationale du
Sud-est de Craiova assure une capacité élevée de commande des forces déployées
dans le sud-est de frontières de l’OTAN, ayant une importante contribution à la
défense collective de l’Alliance.

Technologie – 16 entreprises roumaines du domaine de la technologie de l’Information et des communications ont participé à Los Angeles à Mobile World Congress 2019, l’exposition de téléphonie mobile la plus importante au monde. Selon le ministère du milieu des affaires du commerce et de l’entrepreneuriat de Bucarest, les entreprises roumaines ont exposé leurs produits dans un pavillon national s’étendant sur pr-s de 150 mètres carrés. L’exposition de Los Angeles est la troisième de ce genre après ceux de Barcelone et de Shanghai, qui réunissent producteurs de téléphones portables et d’équipements, fournisseurs de technologie et d’autres grand noms du domaine.

Rome
– Aujourd’hui, à Rome se déroule le Gala de remise des prix de la 9e
édition du Festival international Pro Patria, Jeunes roumains talentueux. Y
participent des jeunes Roumains de la diaspora ayant obtenu des résultats
remarquables dans des domaines tels la musique, les arts visuels, la science et
le sport. Les académies, les écoles et les clubs qui se sont fait remarquer
dans la formation et la promotion de jeunes talentueux roumains seront
également primés. Consacré à la promotion et à la récompense des jeunes roumains vivant au-delà des frontières
du pays, le Festival est organisé et promu par l’Association culturelle
roumano-italienne Propatria, en partenariat avec l’Accademie di Romania de Rome
et bénéficiant de l’appui du Ministère des Roumains du Monde et de l’Ambassade
de Roumanie en Italie. L’événement s’est tenu du 21 septembre au 26 octobre.

Tennis – La joueuse de tennis roumaine Simona Halep a été affectée au groupe Violet au Tournoi des championnes qui aura lieu à Shenzhen (Chine), du 27 octobre au 3 novembre, aux côtés de la Canadienne d’origine roumaine Bianca Andreescu, de Karolina Pliskova (République tchèque) et d’Elina Svitolina (Ukraine), selon le tirage au sort auquel il a été procédé vendredi. Lundi, elle doit affronter justement Bianca Andreescu. Halep participe pour la 6e fois au Tournoi des championnes, qui réunit les huit meilleures joueuses, selon les résultats enregistrés en cours d’année.

Météo – Temps généralement beau pour cette période de l’année en Roumanie avec des températures supérieures aux moyennes pluriannuelles notamment dans les régions à l’intérieur de l’arc des Carpates. Le ciel est plutôt clair, à l’exception des plaines du sud et de l’est du pays, où le brouillard s’installe notamment au cours de la matinée. Die 27. Gala der UNITER-Preise fand in Cluj/Klausenburg statt

Die wichtigsten Auszeichnungen des rumänischen Theaterverbandes UNITER werden jedes Jahr im Rahmen einer Gala vergeben, die immer in einer anderen Stadt veranstaltet wird. Nach Timisoara (im Westen) und Alba Iulia (im Zentrum Rumäniens) war am Montag abend Cluj/Klausenburg (in der Landesmitte) Gastgeber der 27. Ausgabe der UNITER-Gala. Hunderte Gäste aus Bukarest und aus dem ganzen Land füllten den Saal des Nationaltheaters in der schönen siebenbürgischen Stadt. Der Ort wurde ausgewählt, um den 100. Jahrestag des ersten Stücks in rumänischer Sprache auf dieser Bühne zu feiern.

Diejenige, die nicht im Saal des Nationaltheaters in Cluj anwesend waren, konnten die Preisgala dank einer Live-Übertragung im öffentlich-rechtlichen Fernsehen und Rundfunk verfolgen. Es gab mehr als 24 Auszeichnungen, und die Preisträger wurden mit viel Gefühl und Liebe geehrt. Der Preis für hervorragende Leistungen ging an die Theaterkompagnie UNTEATRU in Bukarest. Die Schauspieler Maia Morgenstern und Florin Piersic erhielten Auszeichnungen für die gesamte Aktivität. Mit einem post-mortem Preis für die gesamte Karriere wurde die Anfang Mai verstorbene Schauspielerin Ilinca Tomoroveanu ausgezeichnet.

Die Nominierungen für die Galakategorien machte eine Jury bestehend aus Theaterkritikern. Es handelte sich um Theateraufführungen, die in der Zeit vom 1. Januar – 31. Dezember 2018 Premiere hatten. Die Aufführung Povestea prinţesei deocheate “The Scarlet Princess, eine Übertragung des Kabuki-Theaterstücks von Tsuruya Nanboku IV., Regie von Silviu Purcărete am ‘Radu Stanca‘ Nationaltheater in Sibiu erhielt den Preis für die beste Theateraufführung des Jahres 2018. Und es gab noch einen Preis für diese Theaterproduktion: der Bühnenbildner Dragoş Buhagiar wurde mit der Auszeichnung für das beste Bühnenbild belohnt.

Die Schauspielerin Ofelia Popii wurde mit dem Preis für die beste Darstellerin ausgezeichnet, und der Preis für den besten Darsteller ging an Andrei Hutuleac. Bester Regisseur des Jahres 2018 wurde Tompa Gabor, für das Stück Der Kaufmann von Venedig“ von William Shakespeare, eine Produktion des ungarischen Theaters von Cluj. Und der Gewinner der Kategorie “Bestes Hörspiel war eine Produktion von Radio Rumänien, “Die Wölfin von Giovanni Verga, eine Rundfunkübertragung von Domnica Ţundrea, Regie Vasile Manta.

Gastgeber des Galaabends war, wie jedes Jahr, der Vorsitzende des rumänischen Theaterverbandes UNITER, der Schauspieler und Regisseur Ion Caramitru. Es sei eine echte Herausforderung, ein solches Ereignis zu organisieren, sagte Ion Caramitru:

Wenn die Leute, die sich seit meheren Jahren mit viel Liebe um die UNITER-Gala kümmern, nicht mit so viel Aufopferung arbeiten würden, dann weiß ich wirklich nicht, wie wir das schaffen würden. Auch wenn der Abend mit etwas Verspätung anfing, auch wenn nicht alles perfekt war, wurde unserer UNITER-Gala ein voller Erfolg.

Bis zum nächsten Treffen im nächsten Jahr bleibt den Theaterleuten nichts anderes zu tun, als hochkarätige Shows auf die Bühne zu bringen; das Publikum wird sie dann mit seiner zahlreichen Präsenz und mit viel Applaus belohnen.

Die besten rumänischen Spielfilme des Jahres 2018 wurden bei der Gopo-Gala preisgekrönt

Der Spielfilm “Moromeţii 2”, Regie von Stere Gulea, war der gro‎ße Gewinner der Gopo-Filmpreisverleihung 2019, des wichtigsten Kino-Events in Rumänien. Der Film wurde unter anderem mit Preisen für Ton, Szenenbild, Kostümdesign, Kassenerfolg, Schnitt und Kamera ausgezeichnet.

Der Film war sehr schwierig zu machen. Die Erwartungen des Publikums waren sehr hoch. Wenn ich versagt hätte, wäre es eine riesige Enttäuschung gewesen”, gestand der Regisseur. Er sprach auch über die neue Generation von Schauspielern. Stere Gulea:

“Ich wurde von den Schauspielern der jüngeren Generation regelrecht erobert. Es war mir eine gro‎ße Freude, sie zu entdecken, und sie haben mir die Energie gegeben, die ich für den Film brauchte.”

Stere Gulea ist auch derjenige, der den Schauspieler Iosif Paştină, den Gewinner des Gopo-Preises für Debüt, entdeckt hat. Iosif Paştină:

“Ich danke dem Regisseur Stere Gulea für die Chance, die er mir gegeben hat, an einem epochalen Projekt teilzunehmen. Für mich bedeutet das sehr viel und ich danke Herrn Gulea aus ganzem Herzen. Stere Gulea, Sie sind ein wunderbarer Mensch.”

19 rumänische Spielfilme, die im letzten Jahr in den Kinos gezeigt wurden, standen im Wettbewerb. Die Trophäe für den besten Regisseur erhielt Constantin Popescu für den Streifen “Pororoca”. Der Film wurde auch mit anderen Preisen ausgezeichnet: Iulia Lumânare wurde beste Nebendarstellerin und Bogdan Dumitrache bester Hauptdarsteller. Bogdan Dumitrache:

“Ich danke allen, mit denen ich bei diesem Film zusammengearbeitet habe; insbesondere danke ich Constantin, der mir eine so gro‎ßzügige und komplexe Rolle anvertraut hat. Diesen Preis widme ich aber meinen Musen, meinen Töchtern, Mara und Zoe.”

Beste Hauptdarstellerin wurde Cosmina Stratan für ihre Rolle in dem Film “Dragoste 1. Câine” “Liebe 1. Hund” von Florin Şerban.

Der Preis für das beste Originaldrehbuch ging an Radu Jude für den Film “Îmi este indiferent dacă în istorie vom intra ca barbari” Es ist mir egal, ob wir als Barbaren in die Geschichte eingehen”.

Der beste Dokumentarfilm war “Caisă” Aprikose” von Alexandru Mavrodineanu, den Debütpreis gewann Ivana Mladenovic, mit ihrem Erstlings-Spielfilm Soldaţii. Poveste din Ferentari” Soldaten. Eine Geschichte aus Ferentari” und der Preis für den besten Kurzfilm ging an Bogdan Mureşanu für “Cadoul de Crăciun” Das Weihnachtsgeschenk”.

Die Gopo-Filmpreisverleihung hatte auch emotionsgeladene Momente: Die Schauspielerin Ileana Stana Ionescu und der Schauspieler Constantin Dinulescu wurden mit Preisen für die gesamte Karriere ausgezeichnet.

Les prix Gopo

Le film Moromeţii 2, réalisé par Stere Gulea, a été le grand gagnant des Prix Gopo 2019, soit le plus important événement consacré au cinéma roumain. Cette production cinématographique a aussi raflé d’autres prix, récompensant le son, les décors, les costumes, le succès au box office national, le montage et l’image.

Cela n’a pas du tout été facile de réaliser ce film. Il était très attendu et si l’on avait échoué, la déception aurait été grande a déclaré le réalisateur Stere Gulea. Il a également parlé de la nouvelle génération d’acteurs: J‘ai été vraiment ravi par les jeunes acteurs. J’ai eu un immense plaisir de travailler avec eux. Ils m’ont d’ailleurs donné l’énergie dont j’avais besoin.

C’est Stere Gulea qui a découvert l’acteur Iosif Paştină, gagnant du prix pour le début de carrière. Voici ce que déclarait l’acteur: Je remercie monsieur Gulea, pour la chance qu’il m’a offerte de faire partie d’un projet d’époque. Cela signifie beaucoup pour moi et je vous vous en remercie de tout cœur. Vous être un homme extraordinaire.

19 longs-métrages sortis en salle en 2018 se sont disputé les différents prix. Le trophée du meilleur réalisateur est allé chez Constantin Popescu pour son film Pororoca, qui a d’ailleurs été distingué de deux autres prix: celui de la meilleure actrice dans un rôle secondaire, attribué à Iulia Lumânare et celui du meilleur acteur dans un rôle principal, qui est revenu à Bogdan Dumitrache. Ecoutons un extrait du discours de ce dernier, prononcé lors de la cérémonie de remise des prix: Un grand merci à tous ceux qui ont travaillé à ce film, notamment à Constantin, pour un rôle si généreux et complexe. Je dédie ce prix à mes muses, mes filles Mara et Zoe.

Cosmina Stratan a été désignée meilleure actrice pour son rôle principal dans le film Dragoste 1. Câine (« Amour 1.Chien »), du réalisateur Florin Şerban. Radu Jude s’est vu remettre le prix du meilleur scénario, pour le film Peu m’importe si l’histoire nous considère comme des barbares.

Dans la catégorie « meilleur film documentaire », c’est le film Caisă, (« Abricot ») du réalisateur Alexandru Mavrodineanu qui a remporté le grand prix. Ivana Mladenovici s’est adjugé le prix du meilleur film de début, pour Soldaţii. Poveste din Ferentari (« Soldats Une histoire de Ferentari »). Enfin, Cadoul de Crăciun( « Le cadeau de Noël »), de Bogdan Mureşanu, a été primé dans la section « meilleur court-métrage de fiction ».

Le Gala des prix Gopo a connu des moments émouvants, lorsque l’actrice Ileana Stana Ionescu et l’acteur Constantin Dinulescu ont reçu le prix récompensant l’ensemble de leur carrière artistique. Un prix spécial a été remis à l’ingénieur du son Ion Nica, collaborateur du réalisateur Ion Popescu Gopo. Le prix du public a été décerné au film qui a cartonné au box office en 2018, à savoir Moromeţii 2. Enfin, Dan Chişu a été récompensé pour son soutien au cinéma indépendant. BLACK SEA – The security situation in the Wider Black Sea Region is currently defined by volatility and marked by a potential for conflict, trends which are likely to continue in the short and medium run, the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis believes. In a message conveyed on Monday at the opening of the 2018 edition of an event entitled ‘Security in the Black Sea Region: common challenges, sustainable future, the Romanian President also emphasised that in this complex and dynamic context the use of all international communication means is all the more important. Romania reiterates its goals of stabilising the region through dialogue and the peaceful resolution of divergences, the Presidents message also reads. Taking part in this years edition are representatives of regional, European and Euro-Atlantic decision-makers, academics and civil society leaders from 16 countries. the Programme is an alternative platform for communication and cooperation between diplomatic bodies, the academic environment and the security authorities in the Black Sea region. The 2018 edition, held between May 28 and 31, focuses on “Shaping the future of the Black Sea region: game-changers and predictors.

FOREIGN AFFAIRS – The head of the Romanian diplomacy, Teodor Meleşcanu, takes part in Brussels today in a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council. The agenda includes, among other things, the situation in Venezuela, Iran and Congo. The recent developments in Gaza Strip will also be discussed during an informal working lunch. On the sidelines of the meeting, the Austrian and the Bulgarian foreign ministers will host an informal breakfast with their Macedonian counterpart as the guest of honour.

DEFENCE – The Romanian Defence Minister, Mihai Fifor, is as of Monday on a 3-day official visit to France, at the invitation of his counterpart, Florence Parly. According to a news release issued by the Romanian Defence Ministry, the 2 will discuss, among other things, the security situation at the Black Sea and the development prospects of the bilateral relations in the field of defence, including in the area of military equipment. The Romanian official will also have a meeting with President Emmanuel Macrons diplomatic adviser, Philippe Etienne, the former Ambassador of France to Romania. The agenda also includes visits to the companies MBDA and Airbus Helicopter, the Defence Ministry release reads.

AWARDS – Bucharest is hosting tonight the 46th Awards Gala of the Romanian Filmmakers Association. More than 500 guests are expected to take part in the event. According to the organisers, the films “Fixeur by Adrian Sitaru, “Anna, mon amour by Cătălin Peter Netzer and “One step behind the seraphims, by Daniel Sandu have been nominated for the Great Prize and the Romanian Filmmakers Association Trophy. “Anna, mon amour also competes for the Jurys Special Prize, alongside “Perfectly Healthy directed by Anca Damian and Breaking News, by Iulia Rugină. STATISTICS – One in 5 Romanians (19,7%) aged between 20 and 64 was residing in another EU member state in 2017, which makes Romania the top EU country in terms of labour mobility, data made public by the Eurostat on Monday show. Next come Lithuania (15%), Croatia (14%), and Portugal (13.9%). Eurostat data also indicate that in 2017 compared to 2007, the share of Romanians who live in other EU countries rose by 12.3%, the highest increase reported in the EU. At the opposite pole, only 1% of Germanys citizens aged between 20 and 64 live in other member states. Germany is followed by the UK, Sweden and France.

TENNIS – The Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru (160 WTA) continues today the match against the American Christina McHale (no 85 in the world), at the French Open, the second Grand Slam tournament of the year. The match is resumed after being suspended yesterday at 1-1. Also today, another Romanian player, Mihaela Buzărnescu (no 32 WTA), plays the first round against the American Vania King (1276 WTA). Four other Romanians are playing in this years Roland Garros. World no 1 and first seeded in the tournament, Simona Halep, takes on Alison Riske (USA, 105 WTA). Halep has so far lost 2 Roland Garros finals. Irina Begu (41 WTA) takes on the Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (no 78), Sorana Cîrstea (45 WTA) faces the Australian Daria Gavrilova (no 24), and Ana Bogdan (no 65 WTA) plays against the Czech Marketa Vondrousova (no 90). In the mens competition, the only Romanian player, Marius Copil (95 ATP), faces today the Italian Marco Cecchinato (72 ATP).
