    Rumäniens Präsident Klaus Iohannis wird sich am 19. und 20. Juni auf Besuch in Berlin aufhalten, wo Gespräche mit Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel und Bundespräsident Frank Walter Steinmeier anstehen. Im Rahmen des Europäischen Rates vom 22. und 23. Juni in Brüssel trifft sich Iohannis au‎ßerdem mit dem neuen französischen Präsidenten Emmanuel Macron. Der rumänische Präsident hat gerade einen fünftägigen Arbeitsbesuch in den USA abgeschlossen, in dessen Verlauf er sich zuletzt am Freitag zu Gesprächen mit US-Präsident Donald Trump traf. Auf einer gemeinsamen Pressekonferenz sagte Iohannis, dass die nun schon zwei Jahrzehnte währende strategische Partnerschaft der beiden Länder stärker werden müsse. Dieser Partnerschaft sei die heutige Lage Rumäniens als solide Demokratie mit einem nachhaltigen Wirtschaftssystem zu verdanken. US-Präsident Donald Trump dankte für die Unterstützung im Kampf gegen den Terrorismus. Erstmal bekannte sich Trump auf der Pressekonferenz eindeutig zur Beistandsgarantie innerhalb der Nato.



    Am Sonntag finden in Rumänien in 49 Kommunen Teilwahlen für die Bürgermeisterämter statt. Die Ämter waren vakant geblieben, nachdem die Inhaber verstorben waren, aus verschiedenen Gründen kündigten oder ins Gefängnis mussten. Die letzten ordentlichen Kommunalwahlen fanden im Juni 2016 statt. Kommentatoren bewerten die Wahlen als ersten gro‎ßen Test für die Parteien nach den Parlamentswahlen im Spätherbst 2016.



    Am Samstag eröffnet in der kasachischen Hauptstadt Astana die diesjährige Weltausstellung. Thema ist nachhaltige Energieversorgung. Kasachstan, das vier Milliarden Euro in die Messe investierte, rechnet mit zwei Millionen Besuchern, davon rund 300.000 Firmenvertreter und Manager. 15 Prozent der Besucher sollen aus dem Ausland kommen. 115 Länder und 22 internationale Organisationen sind auf dem 25 Hektar gro‎ßen Gelände vertreten. Zentrum der Expo ist die “Sphäre”, eine 80 Meter hohe Glaskugel, in der Kasachstans Ausstellung angesiedelt ist. Die Ausstellung dauert bis zum 10. September.



    In Cluj ist am Samstag die diesjährige Ausgabe der internationalen TIFF-Filmfestspiele zu Ende gegangen. 27 rumänische Filme wurden gezeigt, einige von ihnen hatten hier ihre Weltpremiere. Ehrengast war der 81jährige französische Filmstar Alain Delon, der einen Preis für seine sechs Jahrzehnte lange Laufbahn bekam. Auch die rumänische Schauspielerin Tora Vasilescu bekam den Exzellenzpreis für 40 Jahre Filmkarriere und Dutzende markanter Rollen.



    Rumäniens Handballdamen haben am Freitag in Oradea Österreich mit 34-29 Toren besiegt. Das war das Hinspiel der Relegation für die Handball-Weltmeisterschaft, die von Deutschland im Dezember dieses Jahres ausgerichtet wird. Das Rückspiel findet am 13. Juni statt. Rumänien ist das einzige Land, das sich an allen 22 Weltmeisterschaften beteiligt hat. Zuletzt gewann Rumänien in 2015 die Bronzemedaille.

Le chef de l’Etat rencontrera aussi le nouveau président français, Emmanuel Macron, en marge du Conseil européen de Bruxelles les 22 et 23 juin. Le président roumain a conclu une visite de travail de cinq jours aux Etats-Unis, qui a culminé vendredi par une réunion avec le président américain, Donald Trump. Klaus Iohannis a déclaré durant la conférence de presse commune que le Partenariat stratégique entre la Roumanie et les Etats-Unis devrait devenir plus fort et définir les relations bilatérales, puisqu’il est très important pour les deux nations. Conformément au leader de Bucarest, ce partenariat a fait de la Roumanie ce qu’elle est aujourd’hui : une démocratie solide, avec un système économique soutenable. Pour sa part, le président Trump a salué les relations avec la Roumanie et affirmé que le partenariat stratégique couvrait plusieurs dimensions : culturelle, économique et militaire. Le leader de Washington a remercié aux Roumains pour l’appui accordé dans la lutte contre le terrorisme. M Trump a par ailleurs loué l’implication de son homologue bucarestois dans la lutte contre la corruption et en faveur de l’Etat de droit en Roumanie.

    OTAN – L’OTAN continue de jouer un rôle clé dans le contexte sécuritaire actuel, et la Roumanie est un exemple positif par sa décision d’allouer 2% du PIB à la défense, a affirmé samedi le chef de la diplomatie roumaine, Teodor Melescanu. Le ministre roumain des Affaires Etrangères a évoqué le rôle de la Roumanie en tant que membre de la communauté transatlantique, profondément engagé dans l’appui du dialogue et du débat sur des thèmes sécuritaires des plus actuelles. Il a également mis en exergue les la consolidation du rôle de l’UE dans les domaines de la défense et de la sécurité, les évolutions au niveau de l’Alliance de l’Atlantique-Nord et les défis multiples qui nécessitent des réponses adéquates sur le plan stratégique et opérationnel.

    Tennis – La joueuse roumaine de tennis, Simona Halep a perdu la finale de Roland Garros contre la lettone Jelena Ostapenko sur le score de 6-4, 4-6, 3-6. La joueuse roumaine, no 4 mondiale, s’est inclinée face à la sportive lettonne qui s’est avéré la grande surprise de ce tournoi du Grand Chelem. La jeune Balte, 20 ans depuis jeudi, est la première joueuse non tête de série à soulever le trophée depuis 1933, selon l’AFP. C’est la deuxième finale que Halep perd sur la terre battue de Roland Garros, après celle de 2014 contre Maria Charapova. Pourtant, grâce aux points accumulés à l’Open de France, Simona Halep arrive à partir de lundi en 2e position mondiale dans le classement WTA.


    Police – La police roumaine a participé aux côtés d’institutions similaires d’Europe et d’ONGs à un exercice qui vise à tester la vitesse avec laquelle les entreprises du secteur des technologies de l’information et des communications réagissent au contenu enligne qui instigue à la haine. Selon un communiqué rendu public ce samedi, en un mois et demi plus de 50 commentaires, vidéos, pages et profiles qui instiguaient à la haine ont été identifiés, dont 15 ont été éliminées par les administrateurs des plateformes sociales dans un délai de 24 heures. Il y a une année, la Commission européenne a annoncé la signature d’un code de conduite contenant une série d’engagements relatifs à la lutte contre le discours motivé par la haine dans le milieu enligne.

    Elections – Des élections municipales partielles se déroulent ce dimanche dans 49 localités roumaines. Tenu en un seul tour, ce scrutin vise à désigner les nouveaux édiles de 5 chefs-lieux, 9 villes et 35 communes. Les fonctions sont vacantes en raison de la démission de certains titulaires, de situations d’incompatibilité, du décès et de l’application de peines privatives de liberté. De l’avis des commentateurs, les élections locales partielles peuvent constituer un test pour tous les partis roumains après les législatives de décembre 2016.

    Tennis – La meilleure joueuse roumaine de tennis du moment, Simona Halep, no 4 mondiale, doit jouer aujourd’hui la finale du tournoi de Roland Garros, deuxième du grand Chelem de l’année contre Jelena Ostapenko, de Lettonie, 47e au classement WTA. C’est la deuxième finale que Simona Halep joue sur la terre battue de Roland Garros, après celle perdue contre la célèbre Maria Charapova en 2014. Dans les demi-finales, la roumaine de 25 ans a disposé en trois sets de Karolina Pliskova, no 3 mondiale. Considérée favorite par la presse sportive, Simona Halep montera sur la première position du classement WTA, ce qui représentera une première pour une joueuse de tennis de Roumanie. L’unique roumaine à avoir remporté l’Open de France a été Virginia Ruzici, en 1978.

    Foot – La sélection nationale de foot de Roumanie doit rencontrer aujourd’hui à Varsovie, la Pologne, dans un match du groupe E des préliminaires de la Coupe du Monde de l’année prochaine en Russie. La Pologne est le leader du groupe, avec 13 points, suivie par le Monténégro et le Danemark, les deux avec 7 points et par la Roumanie et l’Arménie avec 6 points chacune. En fin du classement se trouve le Kazakhstan avec 2 points.
    Handball – La sélection nationale de handball de Roumanie a vaincu vendredi dans la soirée à domicile, à Oradea, dans le nord-ouest, l’Autriche sur le score de 34 à 29, dans la première manche du barrage en vue de la qualification au championnat du monde organisé en Allemagne en décembre. Le match retour est prévu pour le 13 juin. La Roumanie est l’unique pays à avoir participé à toutes les 22 éditions du Championnat du Monde de handball. Elle en a d’ailleurs remporté le bronze en 2015.

    TIFF – Le rideau tombera ce soir à Cluj sur le Festival international du Film Transilvania TIFF 2017. 12 productions ont été en lice pour le trophée du festival. La célèbre star française, Alain Delon se verra décerner le prix pour l’ensemble de sa carrière, qui s’étend sur 6 décennies. Un prix d’excellence sera également accordé à l’actrice roumaine Tora Vasilescu, qui a joué des rôles mémorables durant les 40 ans de sa carrière.

    Elections – Ce dimanche, des élections locales seront tenues dans 49 localités roumaines. Les fonctions sont vacantes suite à la démission de leurs titulaires, en raison de situations d’incompatibilité, ou bien à cause du décès de leurs titulaires ou encore en raison de l’application d’une peine privative de liberté. Les élections partielles seront organisées en cinq chefs-lieux, neuf villes et 35 communes. Rappelons-le, les élections municipales et législatives se sont déroulées en 2016.

    Expo – Coup d’envoi aujourd’hui à Astana, capitale du Kazakhstan de l’exposition universelle. 115 pays, dont la Roumanie et 20 organisations internationales participent à cette édition qui s’étendra jusqu’au 10 septembre. L’événement est ciblé sur les énergies du futur et les organisateurs comptent sur la présence d’un nombre accru de solutions novatrices dans les domaines des transports, du chauffage, de l’efficacité énergétique et de la lutte contre la pollution

    Präsident Klaus Iohannis kommt am Freitag in Washington mit seinem Amtskollegen Donald Trump zu Gesprächen zusammen. Das Treffen werde sowohl bei der Öffentlichkeit in Rumänien als auch bei der rumänischen Gemeinschaft in den USA einen positiven Anklang finden, sagte der Staatschef. Laut einer Mitteilung des Präsidialamtes in Bukarest wird es dabei vor allem um die Erweiterung der bilateralen Strategischen Partnerschaft gehen, die vor genau 20 Jahren abgeschlossen worden war. Ferner soll Iohannis das Engagement Bukarests bekräftigen, als berechenbarer, stabiler und vertrauenswürdiger Partner der USA aufzutreten. Ebenfalls am Freitag plant der rumänische Präsident eine Unterredung mit dem US-Staatssekretär Rex Tillerson. Auf seiner Agenda standen außerdem Gesprächsrunden mit dem Interimsvorsitzenden des Senats, Orrin Hatch, sowie ein Dialog mit den Vertretern der rumänischen Gemeinde in den USA.



    Der rumänische Premierminister Sorin Grindeanu ist am Donnerstagmorgen in Paris mit seinem französischen Gegenüber Edouard Philippe zusammengekommen. Laut dem Radio-Rumänien-Korrespondenten beinhaltete die Diskussionsagenda eine Bewertung der poltischen Lage der Europäischen Union nach dem Brexit, sowie die Beziehungen Bukarests zu der Organisation für Wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (OCDE). Grindeanu erklärte, dass Rumänien die Unterstützung Frankreichs hinsichtlich des Beitrittes Rumäniens zu dieser Organisation zu schätzen wisse. Gemeinsam mit Philippe erörterte er auch die Möglichkeiten zur Konsolidierung der Strategischen Partnerschaft, die 2008 geschlossen wurde, im wirtschaftlichen, diplomatischen und kulturellen Bereich. Dieses war das erste Treffen Edouard Philippes mit einem Amtskollegen seit seiner Amtsübernahme letzen Monat. Am Mittwoch beteilgte sich Premierminister Grindeanu in Paris auch an der Beitrittszeremonie Rumäniens zur Agentur für Atomenergie der OCDE.



    Rumänien hat im ersten Quartal 2017 den größten Wirtschaftsaufschwung der 28 EU-Mitgliedsstaaten mit einer Steigerung des BIP um 5,6% gegenüber dem Vergleichszeitraum des Vorjahres verzeichnet. Diese Schätzung wurde am Donnerstag von dem Europäischen Statistikamt (Eurostat) veröffentlicht. Die höchsten Fortschritte EU-weit im Zeitraum Januar – März 2017 wurden in Rumänien, Slowenien, Litauen, Estland, Lettland, Polen, Ungarn und Bulgarien verzeichnet. In der EU wurde keine Senkung des BIP in den ersten drei Monaten des Jahres 2017 registriert.

    REACTIONS – The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, firmly condemned on Sunday the terror attack that killed 7 and wounded nearly 50 people in London on Saturday night, and expressed compassion for the victims. In Bucharest, the Royal House learned with profound sadness about the tragedy that hit the British capital once again. The new terror attack is an act targeting humanity, human freedom and dignity, Crown Princess Margareta of Romania says in a news release. The Romanian Embassy in London is closely monitoring the incident and has taken emergency measures to get additional information from the local authorities and establish whether Romanian citizens were among the victims. London received condolence messages from around the world. The US President, Donald Trump, who had a phone conversation with the British PM after the attack, offered his countrys full support in the face of what he called a brutal terror attack. The leaders of Germany, France, Canada and Russia also sent compassion and support messages.




    STATE VISIT – The President of Romania Klaus Iohannis is, as of Sunday, on an official visit to the United States, where he has a meeting scheduled with his US counterpart, Donald Trump on June 9. According to the Radio Romania correspondent in Washington, Klaus Iohannis is the first Central and East European head of state to be received at the White House since Trump took office. The talks are intended to strengthen bilateral relations and the strategic partnership between the two countries, 20 years after it was signed. Over the past 2 decades Bucharest has grown into an important ally for Washington in the region. The agenda of the Romanian Presidents visit to the US also includes meetings with the Romanians living in that country. On Monday, Klaus Iohannis will be the guest of honour in the Global Forum of the American Jewish Committee, where he is to receive the highest distinction of this organisation.




    PENTECOST – 50 days after Easter, Christians around the world, including in mostly Orthodox Romania, are celebrating the Pentecost, the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the birth of the first Christian community. The holiday is also known as White Sunday, or Whitsunday. The biblical narrative of Pentecost is given in the Book of Acts. 50 days after Resurrection, about one hundred and twenty followers of Christ, including the Twelve Apostles, heard a sound from heaven and saw tongues of fire. The Apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in languages they had not known before. On that day, following Apostle Peters address, 3,000 people were baptised, coming together into the first Christian community, which was the core of the future Christian Church.





    TURIN PANIC – 1,500 people were injured as they fled in fear on Saturday night in a piazza in Turin, Italy, where thousands of supporters were watching the Champions League final. According to some reports, a handrail that people had been leaning against collapsed, creating the panic. Others say people mistook firecrackers for a bomb.




    JUDO – The Romanian athlete Daniel Natea Sunday won the gold in the +100 kilo category of the European Judo Open in Bucharest, defeating the Azeri Ushangi Kokauri by ippon. In the 90 kilo category, Cristian Bodîrlău won the broze, while on Saturday Monica Ungureanu won the gold in the 48 kilo category. Romania ranks 3rd in the medal standings, after France and Ukraine. 376 athletes from 29 countries took part in the competition.




    ROLAND GARROS – The best ranking Romanian tennis player, Simona Halep (no. 4 WTA), is facing Spains Carla Suarez Navarro, no 23 WTA in Mondays eighth-finals Roland Garros. This will be the 12th direct match for the two, six of which were won by the Romanian. In the womens doubles event, the Romanian Irina Begu and the Chinese Saisai Zheng Sunday qualified into the quarter-finals, after defeating the Chinese pair made up of Ying-Ying Duan/Shuai Peng.

    LONDON ATTACK – Terror attacks are a distortion of Islam, and Britain “cannot and must not pretend that things can continue as they are, the British PM Theresa May said on Sunday, after the terror attack on Saturday night in London, which killed 7 and wounded nearly 50 others. After a meeting of the Governments emergency response committee on Sunday, the British PM emphasised that the 3 recent attacks in Britain are not connected, although all are linked by radical Islamist ideology. May said there was far too much tolerance of extremism in Britain, and added the anti-terrorism strategy would be reconfigured. According to the British PM, the parliamentary election will still be held on June 8, as scheduled. Three attackers rammed a van into pedestrians on London Bridge on Saturday night, before getting out and attacking people with knives. They were shot dead by police. This is the third terror attack in UK in less than 3 months, after the Westminster Bridge one less than two weeks ago and Manchester Arena. The international community, including the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, firmly condemned the attack. The Romanian Embassy in UK is closely monitoring the incident, and has taken emergency measures to obtain further information on whether Romanian citizens were among the victims.

Ungureanu is a two-time winner of bronze in the European Championships, in 2016 and 2017. This is the most important judo competition organised in Romania, with 438 athletes from 31 countries on 4 continents taking part. Romania is represented by 52 athletes, 34 men and 18 women.




    ROLAND GARROS – The best ranking Romanian tennis player, Simona Halep (no. 4 WTA), is facing Spains Carla Suarez Navarro, no 23 WTA in Mondays eighth-finals of the Roland Garros.     Die opositionelle Union Rettet Rumänien (USR) wird einen neuen Wahlkongress abhalten. Gründer und Chef Nicuşor Dan war am Donnerstag ausgetreten, die Interims-Führung der Partei übernahm der Chef der Filiale Cluj Elek Levente, der beim Kongress im vergangenen Monat die meisten Stimmen hinter Nicuşor Dan erhalten hatte. Dan war ausgetreten, weil sich die USR eindeutig gegen ein Referendum zur Schwulenehe positionierte, er aber Neutralität wollte. Drei Millionen Rumänen hatten in einer Unterschriftenaktion die Abänderung der Verfassung und die Definierung der Ehe als Verbindung von Mann und Frau anstatt wie im Moment zwischen Ehepartnern gefordert.



    Der Klimawandel sei ein dringendes globales Problem und die globalen Ansätze des Pariser Abkommens seien nicht von der Hand zu weisen – das sagte am Freitag Medeea Marinescu, die rumänische Botschafterin für das Klimaabkommen. Die rumänische Greenpeacefiliale teilte ihrerseits mit, dass die Initiative der USA, sich aus dem Abkommen zurückzuziehen, zu verurteilen sei. US-Präsident Donald Trump begründete die Entscheidung mit negativen Konsequenzen des Abkommens für die amerikanische Wirtschaft.



    Der rumänische Staatspräsident Klaus Iohannis unternimmt einen Arbeitsbesuch in den Vereinigten Staaten. Am 9. Juni wird Präsident Iohannis mit US-Präsident Donald Trump zusammenkommen, meldete die Bukarester Präsidialverwaltung. Diese höchste Auszeichnung des American Jewish Committee, wird an Staats- und Regierungschefs als Anerkennung für den wichtigen internationalen Beitrag zur Förderung des Friedens, der Sicherheit, der Demokratie und der menschlichen Werte verliehen. Im Rahmen seines USA-Besuches wird Klaus Iohannis auch mit Vertretern der rumänischen Gemeinden in den Vereinigten Staaten zusammentreffen.



    Nach Angaben der delegierte Europaministerin Rumäniens Ana Birchall führe das Land einen konstruktiven Dialog mit der Europäischen Kommission für eine gute Vorbereitung der EU-Ratspräsidentschaft in der ersten Hälfte von 2019 . Birchall diskutierte in Brüssel mit dem stellvertretenden Generalsekretär der Europäischen Kommission Jean-Eric Paquet und nannte die EU-Ratspräsidentschaft eine Priorität. Rumänien sei seit 10 Jahren EU-Mitglied und reif, eine große Herausforderung zu einer Chance zu machen, sagte die Ministerin.



    Die Moldau habe nach Angaben ihres prorussischen Präsidenten Igor Dodon andere Werte als die der westlichen Länder. Die ehemalige Sowjetrepublik kehre wieder zu einer strategischen Partnerschaft mit Russland zurück, sagte Dodon auf dem Wirtschaftsforum in Sankt Petersburg. Nach acht Jahren proeuropäischer und deutlich antirussischer Politik sei die Moldau dabei, nach den letzten Präsidialwahlen vom letzten Jahr die Situation zu korrigieren, so Dodon. Ein Beitritt stehe in der jetzigen Form der EU außer Frage; nach dem Referendum für den Austritt Großbritanniens seien die Vorteile einer Mitgliedschaft fragwürdig, sagte der moldauische Präsident.



    Rund 200 Spiel- und Kurzfilme stehen auf dem Programm des 16. Internationalen Filmfestivals Transilvania TIFF 2017 in Klausenburg. Rund 1200 ausländische und rumänische Gäste sollen anlässlich dieser wichtigsten rumänischen Filmfestspiele an Filmaufführungen, Konzerten, Werkstätten, Debatten und Premieren teilnehmen. Die rumänische Schauspielerin Tora Vasilescu wird beim Filmfest mit dem Exzellenzpreis ausgezeichnet. Ehrengast ist der französische Schauspieler Alain Delon, der zu diesem Anlass das erste Mal Rumänien besucht.

    Am letzten Sonntag des Monats Mai wird in Rumänien der Tag der Rumänen von Überall gefeiert. Zu diesem Anlaß finden in Rumänien und im Ausland zahlreiche Kulturveranstaltungen statt. Die Bukarester Regierung hat ein neues Gesetzespaket erarbeitet, um die im Ausland lebenden Rumänen zu unterstützen. Das heutige Gesetz ist älter als 10 Jahre und es mußte auf den neuesten Stand gebracht werden, präzisierte die Ministerin für die Rumänen von Überall, Andreea Pastarnac, in einem Interview für Radio Romania. Mehr als 2 Millionen Rumänen arbeiten legal außerhalb der rumänischen Grenzen, die meisten von ihnen in EU-Staaten. Die größten rumänischen Gemeinden befinden sich in Italien und Spanien – in diesen Ländern werden Veranstaltungen zum Feiern des Tags der Rumänen von Überall organisiert. Zum selben Anlaß findet in Bukarest das Seminar Die rumänische Sprache näher an zu Hause. In einer Botschaft zum Tag der Rumänen von Überall sagte Staatspräsident Klaus Iohannis, er wünsche, dass die Ruumänen von Überall einander unterstützen und gemeinsam an den wichtigen Entscheidungen, die ihr Leben bestimmen, teilnehmen sollten.



    US-Präsident Donald Trump hat die Gruppe der sieben großen Industrienationen (G7) mit seinem Konfrontationskurs in eine schwere Krise gestürzt. Nur in letzter Minute konnte auf ihrem zweitägigen Gipfel in Taormina auf Sizilien ein Fiasko abgewendet werden. Massive Differenzen gab es im Klimaschutz und beim Umgang mit Flüchtlingen. Allein in der Handelspolitik näherten sich die Staats- und Regierungschefs am Samstag an. Die mageren Ergebnisse des Gipfels stießen auf scharfe Kritik. Nach seiner ersten Auslandsreise kehrte Trump zurück in die USA, wo ihn die Affären über die Kontakte seines Wahlkampflagers zu Russland erwarteten. Obwohl er erst nach zähem Ringen zugestimmt hatte, den Kampf gegen Protektionismus in die Abschlusserklärung des Gipfels aufzunehmen, verkaufte der Präsident den Mini-Kompromiss als Erfolg. Mit dem Kompromiss über Protektionismus konnte ein tiefergehendes Zerwürfnis mit den USA verhindert werden. Die Gegensätze prallten vor allem in der Klimapolitik aufeinander. Die sechs anderen Staaten appellierten eindringlich an Trump, dem Klimaabkommen von Paris treu zu bleiben. Er will nächste Woche über einen Ausstieg aus der historischen Vereinbarung entscheiden, die zu einer Verringerung der Treibhausgase verpflichtet. Er empfindet das Abkommen als unfair und schädlich für die Wirtschaft der USA, die nach China der zweitgrößte Klimasünder sind. In einem ungewöhnlichen Schritt hielten die G7 den Streit sogar im Abschlusskommuniqué fest. Die deutsche Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel und Frankreichs Staatspräsident Emmanuel Macron betonten, keine Kompromisse zulassen zu wollen. Umweltschützer begrüßten, dass eine Aufweichung des Abkommens verhindert worden sei. (dpa)



    Anläßlich seines Vatikanbesuches ist der rumänische Staatssekretär Victor Micula mit dem Generalsekretär der Gemeinschaft SantEgidio, Alberto Quattrucci und mit anderen Führungsmitgliedern der Gemeinschaft zusammengekommen. Victor Micula würdigte die mehr als 20 Jahre lange Aktivität der Gemeinschaft SantEgidio, die besondere Aufmerksamkeit, die sie den Beziehungen zu Bukarest schenkt sowie die Bereitschaft der Gemeinschaft SantEgidio, im Rahmen von ökumenischen Projekten und internationalen humanitären Programmen zusammenzuarbeiten. Die Gemeinschaft SantEgidio entstand im Jahr 1968 in Rom in den Jahren nach dem Zweiten Vatikanischen Konzil. Heute ist sie eine Laienbewegung, zu der mehr als 60.000 Personen gehören. Sie setzt sich in Rom, in Italien und in mehr als 70 Ländern der Welt für die Weitergabe des Evangeliums und im Dienst an den Armen ein. SantEgidio ist ein Öffentlicher Verein von Gläubigen“ in der Kirche. Die verschiedenen Gemeinschaften auf der ganzen Welt sind durch dieselbe Spiritualität und die Grundlagen miteinander verbunden, die den Weg von SantEgidio kennzeichnen.

    Diaspora – Aujourd’hui c’est la fête des Roumains du monde, célébrée chaque année durant le dernier dimanche du mois de mai par des évènements culturels organisés tant en Roumanie qu’à l’étranger. A la veille de cet événement, le gouvernement a achevé l’élaboration d’un paquet de lois visant à soutenir les Roumains qui habitent au-delà des frontières du pays. La loi actuellement en vigueur date d’il y a 10 ans et elle devait être mise à jour, a précisé la ministre en charge de la diaspora Andreea Pastarnac, dans une interview pour la radio publique roumaine. Selon les statistiques, plus de deux millions de Roumains travaillent légalement à l’étranger, dont la plupart dans des pays membres de l’UE. Les communautés roumaines les plus nombreuses récemment constituées sont en Italie et en Espagne. Dans ces pays, plusieurs événements culturels sont organisés pour marquer la fête des Roumains de partout. A Bucarest, un colloque est organisé à cette même occasion au sujet de la langue roumaine dans les communautés de la diaspora. Dans un message transmis à l’occasion de la fête des Roumains du monde, le président roumain Klaus Iohannis affirme qu’il souhaite que ceux-ci s’appuient les uns les autres et qu’ils participent à la prise des décisions qui concernent leur vie.

    Environnement – Le président américain Donald Trump pourrait retirer les Etats-Unis de l’Accord de Paris visant la lutte contre les changements climatiques, selon des sources citées par Reuters. M Trump a transmis sur un réseau de socialisation qu’une décision finale serait prise la semaine prochaine, vu que les leaders des principaux pays industrialisés n’ont pas réussi à le convaincre lors du sommet du G7 en Italie de l’importance de l’Accord de Paris visant les changements climatiques. Le sommet des pays les plus riches au monde s’est achevé samedi à Taormina, en Sicile, sans une entente sur la lutte contre le réchauffement climatique. Les leaders du G7 ont pourtant signé une position commune contre le protectionnisme et les mauvaises pratiques commerciales, ainsi qu’un accord à l’unanimité visant la lutte contre le terrorisme.

    Vatican – Au cours de sa visite au Vatican, le secrétaire d’Etat Victor Micula a rencontré le secrétaire général de la communauté Sant’Egidio, Alberto Quattrucci et d’autres membres de la direction de la communauté. Conformément à un communiqué du Ministère des Affaires Etrangères, le responsable roumain a apprécié à cette occasion l’activité de plus de 20 ans de la Communauté Sant’Egidio en Roumanie et l’attention particulière que cette-ci accordée au développement des relations avec les autorités de Bucarest. Le responsable roumain a exprimé également la disponibilité de la Roumanie de collaborer dans le cadre des projets œcuméniques et de programmes internationaux humanitaires. Les pourparlers ont visé l’activité que la communauté Sant’Egidio – mouvement laïque d’inspiration catholique fondée à Rome en 1968 et présente dans plus de 70 pays – déroule au niveau international dans les domaines humanitaire, social, éducationnel, sanitaire, dans la lutte contre la pauvreté et l’aide des personnes défavorisées et des migrants.

    Marathon – Raphael Igrisianu, né en Roumanie et établi il y a 20 ans en Allemagne, a remporté samedi le marathon international Sibiu, dans le centre de la Roumanie, parcourant les 42 kilomètres en deux heures et 52 minutes. Il a participé à la course pour soutenir un projet culturel qui se propose d’éduquer les enfants par la musique. Raphael Igrisanu a participé à plus de 60 marathons internationaux et il est un des plus connus coureurs de marathon de Roumanie. Plus de 3200 Roumains et étrangers ont participé au marathon de Sibiu pour soutenir différents projets sociaux.

    Météo – Temps généralement beau avec des températures à la hausse. Le ciel est variable, et sur le sud du pays et en montagne, les météorologues s’attendent à des pluies de courte durée et à des orages. Les températures vont de 18 à 26 degrés. 21 degrés en ce moment à Bucarest.

    Sans être trop différent par rapport aux réunions habituelles des Etats membres de l’OTAN, le sommet déroulé jeudi à Bruxelles, a été toutefois marqué par une première: la participation des nouveaux leaders, de trois Etats clé de l’Alliance. Il s’agit sans doute du président français Emmanuel Macron, de la première ministre britannique Theresa May et du président américain Donald Trump, qui ont réitéré tous les trois les engagements assumés par leurs pays, membres fondateurs de l’OTAN et puissances militaires mondiales de premier rang.

    « Premiers entre les pairs » comme on les appelle souvent au sein de l’Alliance, les Américains ont insisté par la voix du président Trump sur la nécessité de se concentrer sur la lutte contre le terrorisme, sur l’immigration et sur les menaces russes. Une fois de plus, les Etats-Unis ont demandé aux membres de l’Alliance d’accroître les budgets destinés à la Défense, soulignant qu’il «n’était pas correct face aux Américains qui paient leurs taxes » que Washington couvre la plupart des dépenses communes, alors que les Européens n’en soient que des bénéficiaires.

    Par ailleurs, toujours en première, les représentants du Monténégro ont participé au sommet otanien. A partir du mois prochain cette petite république ex-yougoslave deviendra officiellement le 29e Etat membre de l’OTAN. A Bruxelles, la Roumanie a été représentée par son président, Klaus Iohannis. Pour celui-ci, l’OTAN reste la même organisation importante, forte et surtout unie. Il a également salué le fait que les Etats-Unis aient réitéré leur engagement quant à la défense collective et à la consolidation du flanc oriental de l’Alliance.

    En même temps, le chef de l’Etat roumain a mis en évidence l’importance d’avoir une relation transatlantique solide. Pour ce faire, la Roumanie a déjà alloué 2% de son PIB à la Défense. Klaus Iohannis: « Je peux dire que pour cette réunion, la Roumanie a atteint ses objectifs. Je suis persuadé que ce sommet a contribué à garantir une défense solide de la Roumanie et un rôle visible de notre pays dans les efforts d’assurer la sécurité de la région et de l’espace euro-atlantique. De notre point de vue, ce fut un sommet réussi », a déclaré le président roumain.

    Notons aussi qu’en marge de la réunion, le président Klaus Iohannis s’est entretenu avec son homologue polonais Andrzej Duda au sujet du partenariat stratégique entre les deux pays, sur la coopération à l’intérieur de l’OTAN et sur les préparatifs en vue du sommet de l’Alliance que la capitale roumaine, Bucarest, accueillera en 2018, surtout que les deux pays sont considérés comme les Etats les plus importants du flanc est de l’OTAN. Dans ce contexte, la Roumanie et la Pologne avaient convenu l’année dernière de déployer des troupes militaires l’une sur le territoire de l’autre et d’avoir une présence renforcée sur le Flanc Est.     PRESIDENCY — The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, is taking part today in Brussels in the meeting of NATO leaders. According to the Presidency, he will emphasise that Romania is a reliable, predictable and responsible ally, especially after having increased its Defence budget to 2% of the GDP. President Iohannis will also lay emphasis on the importance of strengthening NATO’s eastern flank and will support an enhanced role of the Alliance in fighting terrorism. On the sidelines of the meeting, the Romanian President will have a meeting with his Polish counterpart, Andrzej Duda. The main topic of discussion will be the strengthening of the bilateral strategic partnership, the Presidency also announced.



    EXERCISE — Four thousand military, heavy equipment and helicopter gunships will be deployed to the Cincu shooting range in central Romania, to take part in one of the biggest NATO military exercises in recent years. The troops are part of NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force. The main aim is defending Romania as part of emergency interventions on the Alliance’s eastern flank. Joining Romanian troops will be military from Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Norway, Albania and Bulgaria.



    IMF — Romanian economy will grow by 4.2% in 2017, with fiscal relaxation slightly likely to affect market confidence, reads an IMF report made public today. The international lender has hailed the progress Romania has made in curbing economic imbalances, after the financial global crisis, recommending however that Romania reorient its policies from boosting consumption towards supporting investors. IMF claims that fiscal relaxation, doubled by the growing political turmoil in Romania, might affect consumption and investment. On the other hand, the unified pay scale law, currently under debate in Parliament, as well as the latest tax cuts, pose certain risks for the budget deficit, which the IMF expects to stand at 3,7% this year. The report is based on the talks IMF officials had with Bucharest authorities in March.



    ASCENSION DAY – Orthodox, Greek-Catholic and Roman-Catholic believers in Romania are today celebrating Ascension Day. According to Christian beliefs, 40 days after Resurrection, Lord Jesus departed from Earth into the presence of God from the Mount of Olives, warning his disciples to remain in Jerusalem until the coming of the Holy Spirit. Since 1920, when, after WWI, all Romanian historical provinces united under Bucharest’s authority, Ascension Day has been celebrated together with the Heroes’ Day. Today at noon church bells were rung in all Orthodox churches across Romania to honour the memory of those who gave their lives for the Romanian people, faith and country, and the names of the soldiers killed in WWI were solemnly read out in most garrisons which also hosted military and religious ceremonies.



    MOLDOVA — The special envoy of the Austrian presidency of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the OSCE, Wolf Dietrich Heim, is today meeting pro-Russian separatist leaders from Transdniestr. On Wednesday, Heim held talks in Chisinau with the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Gheorghe Balan, the latter accusing separatists of avoiding dialogue, especially after Chisinau and Kiev authorities have voiced their plans to set up joint border crossing checkpoints on the Moldovan-Ukrainian border with Transdniestr. We recall that Russian troops are still deployed in Transdniestr, a breakaway region east of Moldova, although Moscow pledged to withdraw its troops after the OSCE Summit of 1999 in Istanbul.



    TRUMP –US President Donald Trump is in Brussels, where he takes part for the first time in a NATO Summit, after having been rather critical of the Alliance in the past. The NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, announced the Alliance would join the international coalition fighting the Islamic State jihadist group, although it will not take part in combat operations. The decision has long been called for by the US, which is heading the coalition and which has repeatedly called for NATO members to raise their defence budgets to 2% of the GDP. On Wednesday, his first day in Brussels, Trump had a meeting with King Philippe I of Belgium, while thousands of people were protesting in the Belgian capital city against his presence. Brussels is a stage in Trump’s first international tour as president, after Saudi Arabia, Israel and the Palestinian territories, Italy and the Vatican. Trump will next head for Taormina, in Sicily, for the G7 summit.



    LONDON ATTACK — The Manchester Police today arrested two suspects in connection with Monday’s night terror attack, taking the number of arrests to 8. Another woman suspected of having been involved in the attack was released without being indicted. We recall that a blast on Manchester Arena on Monday killed 22 people and injured another 60, being claimed by the Islamic State terrorist organization. On Tuesday, British authorities have identified the suspect as being 22-year-old Salman Abedi, a Lybian-born British national born in Manchester. According to Interior Secretary Amber Rudd, Abedi was on the British intelligence’s suspect list and most likely did not act alone.



    MIGRANTS — Tens of migrants, among whom many children, drowned on Wednesday after falling from an overcrowded wooden boat off the Libyan coast. A ship of the Italian coast guard that coordinates rescue services in the area alongside several commercial ships have managed to rescue scores of survivors. Last Friday another 150 migrants were reported missing. According to a report by the International Organization for Migration almost 1,300 people have died on their way to Europe. 50,000 of them have managed to reach Italy, France Press reports.



    TENNIS — Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea, 67 WTA, is today playing Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan, 28 WTA, in the quarterfinals of the Nurnberg tournament, totalling 230,000 dollars in prize money. In another development, Horia Tecau or Romania and Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands have qualified to the semi-finals of the tournament in Geneva, offering 500,000 dollars in prize money. In the quarterfinals, Tecau and Rojer ousted the competition’s first seeds, Philipp Petzschner of Germany and Alexander Peya of Austria in straight sets.



    FOOTBALL — English giants Manchester United have for the first time won the Europa League Trophy. Wednesday night in the final hosted by the city of Stockholm in Sweden, Manchester United grabbed a 2-nil win against their Dutch challengers Ajax Amsterdam. The Europa League final was played ahead of the Champions League final, scheduled on June 3 in Cardiff, where Spanish giants Real Madrid take on the no less famous Italian contenders Juventus FC. This coming Saturday in the town of Ploiesti, southern Romanian team Astra Giurgiu for the first time ever is pitted against FC Voluntari, in Romanian Cup Final. Also as an absolute first, the domestic championship title went to FC Viitorul, a team from south-eastern Romania’s Constanta. The team was founded in 2009 by the former great Romanian footballer Gheorghe Hagi. The League Cup, a competition exclusively created for first-tier teams, went to Dinamo Bucharest.     ATTACK — 22 people have been killed and around 60 more injured in an explosion in Manchester on Monday, at the end of a concert on the Manchester Arena. British authorities have confirmed that a suicide bomber carried out the attack. Security measures have been bolstered, and the British government met today in emergency session. Prime Minister Theresa May and Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn have suspended their campaigns for the snap elections on 8 June. This is the worst attack in Britain since the July 7, 2005 attack in London, which left 52 dead and almost 700 injured. Two months ago, an Islamist rammed pedestrians with an automobile on Westminster Bridge, killing five, including one Romanian. Bucharest joined the international community in condemning Mondays attack, expressing solidarity with the British people. The Romanian authorities have said that no Romanians were among the victims.



    SALARIES — The Romanian Senate passed the Unified Pay Scale bill today, which is supposed to raise salaries gradually for state employees until 2022. Labor Minister Lia Olguta Vasilescu told senators that the bill was correlated with the new Fiscal Code, and that it would provide a 56% average salary increase. The minister explained that the law was necessary in order to fix a dysfunctional public wage system. The bill goes next to the Chamber of Deputies, the lower chamber. Public administration trade unions expressed their dissatisfaction at the bill, and announced widespread protests next week all across the country, including the capital. Union leaders said they expect 120,000 to attend the protests.



    INVESTIGATION — Former Social Democratic Party chairman Mircea Geoana, defeated in the presidential elections in 2009, and his campaign manager, former Social Democratic MP Viorel Hrebenciuc, are being heard today by the Parliament committee investigating the elections of 2009. On Monday, the committee heard the vice-president of the Permanent Election Authority, Marian Muhulet, and controversial journalist Dan Andronic, whose allegations led to the creation of the committee. The latter specified that he has no further information beyond what he published, and no evidence that the 2009 elections were tampered with. Andronic used to be a political adviser to former president Traian Basescu, who in 2009 won as an incumbent. Andronic claimed that, on the night of the second round of elections in 2009, he met in an informal setting General Prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi, former director of intelligence George Maior and his first deputy, Florian Coldea, and that the meeting looked like the gathering of a crisis committee. He further claimed that all the people mentioned risked being fired in case Geoana won the elections.



    TRUMP — US President Donald Trump was today in Bethlehem, in the West Bank, and said that he would do everything in his power to help Israelis and Palestinians reach a peace agreement. Trump met Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas on the last day of his tour of the Middle East. The Palestinian president pleaded for the two state solution, along the 1967 borders. Israelis and Palestinians have not held direct talks in over 3 years. On Monday in Jerusalem, Trump emphasized the close ties between the US and Israel. He insisted on the threat posed by Iran against world peace, which he also emphasized during his visit to Saudi Arabia. This is Donald Trumps first international tour as president. He continues his tour visiting the Vatican, then attending the NATO summit in Brussels, and the G7 meeting in Sicily.



    BUCHAREST — The Romanian economic model within the EU is a topic for debate at a conference held at the Parliament Palace in Bucharest by the Association for Economic and Social Studies and Forecasts. Representatives of the government, business people, academics, and civil society activists are presenting their perspective for the next 10 years with regard to standards of living, education and workforce. According to the latest statistics, Romania has the highest economic growth in the Union. At the same time, the EC has warned Bucharest on its risk of overstepping the stated budget on medium term.



    NAVAL — Romanian training ship The Mircea goes today, until 22nd September, on an international training expedition lasting 122 days. It will stop over in 11 ports in 9 countries at the Mediterranean, the North Sea, the Baltic Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean. The 163 members of the crew, of them 70 Romanian students will be joined by 8 cadets from naval academies in Bulgaria, China, Greece and Poland. The crew will go on official visits to the naval academies in Holland, Germany, Portugal and Spain. It will also take part in two prestigious naval events. This year, the Romanian and German military naval forces have signed an agreement on training future officers, unfolding for the duration of this international expedition. 110 cadets and 13 German trainers will be on board the Mircea.

    SALARIES — The Unified Pay Scale bill, which provides for raising state employee salaries gradually until 2022 is put to a vote today in the Senate in Bucharest. The Senate labor committee passed a number of amendments, among them raising by 25% the indemnities of local elected officials working on projects financed with European funds, and granting a 15% bonus to public servants in decentralized services under the Ministry of the Environment. The Unified Pay Scale bill raises state budget wages across the board. Stay tuned for details after the news.



    INVESTIGATION — The parliamentary committee appointed to investigate the 2009 presidential elections starts hearings today with journalist and former political adviser Dan Andronic. Over the next few days, the committee hears former Minister of the Interior Vasile Blaga, former chairman of the Permanent Election Authority, Maria Patru, and Mircea Geoana, who ran in the 2009 elections. Recently, Dan Andronic alleged that the heads of major state institutions, such as the director of intelligence and the head prosecutor, had tampered with the elections in favor of the then incumbent president and candidate Traian Basescu. He won a second term in office with a narrow margin, running against Mircea Geoana. Prosecutors are already investigating the case for abuse of office, as well as forging documents and electoral records. The report of the parliament committee could get to the joint chambers by the end of this legislative season, which concludes on July 1st.



    BRUSSELS — Romanian Delegate Minister for European Affairs, Ana Birchall, takes part in Brussels in the General Affairs Council Meeting, gathering 27 countries, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministers of the 27 gather to pass the authorization to open negotiations for the Brexit, the UK leaving the European Union. During her trip, Minister Birchall will hold talks with her Estonian counterpart, Matti Maasikas, on the priorities of the Estonian presidency of the European Council, and the main issues under debate at the European level. The minister pointed to Romanias intense interest in protecting the rights and interests of Romanians living and working in the UK.



    TRUMP — US President Donald Trump arrives today in Israel, the second leg of his first international tour as head of state, the first being Saudi Arabia. He will hold talks in Jerusalem with President Reuven Rivlin, PM Benjamin Netanyahu, and other Israeli leaders. On Tuesday, he goes to Bethlehem, where he meets Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. In Saudi Arabia, a major US ally, Trump signed contracts worth 380 billion USD, mainly for armament and oil sales. In Riyadh, speaking to representatives of over 40 Muslim states, he called on leaders there to take the initiative in fighting Islamist militants. The tour will continue with Italy and Belgium.



    TENNIS — Five Romanian tennis players attend the tournament in Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam of the year, with 36 million Euro in prizes. According to betting houses, Simona Halep, currently ranking fourth in the world, is among the favorites to win. On Sunday, she lost the finals of the tournament in Rome against 11th seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine. The four other Romanian contenders in the current competition are Irina Begu, 44th, Monica Niculescu (53 WTA), Sorana Cîrstea (67 WTA) and Patricia Ţig (119 WTA). The first day of the tournament is Sunday.



    HANDBALL — Romanian mens handball team Potaissa Turda was defeated on Sunday in an away game by Sporting Lisbon, 37-28, in the first leg of the finals of the Challenge Cup. The return leg is scheduled for May 27 in Cluj-Napoca. In womens handball, Romanian champions CSM Bucharest came in third in the Champions Leagu Final Four, the most important European competition. In 2016, CSM won the Champions League in their very first year of attendance.



    DRUGS — The Bulgarian authorities, working with Romanian authorities, have captured over 400 kg of heroin at the Vidin-Calafat crossing point between the two countries. The black market value of the transport is over 32 million Euros. The heroin was found in a truck transporting construction materials, transiting between Iran and Holland.

    CYBERATTACK- The cyberattack against the Foreign Ministry in Bucharest, countered last Friday, was a surgical strike against specific employees, according to Anton Rog, the head of the national cyberintelligence center of the Romanian Intelligence Service. According to him, such attacks are usually the act of a state agency. Previously, the RIS had said that, most likely, the attempt originated with the cybercrime group APT28/ Fancy Bear, identified with previous events of this kind. Also according to Rog, the event was different from the WannaCry ransomware attack last week, which has touched Romania too.



    COMMISSIONER — European Commissioner for Competition, Margrethe Vestager, is on a visit to Romania, meeting the Prime Minister, Sorin Grindeanu. The visit comes after the EC passed new regulations on granting state aid, waiving the right of the EC to endorse state aid for ports and airports and certain cultural initiatives. The aim is to facilitate public investment, creating jobs and economic growth, without affecting competition. Commissioner Vestager said that Brussels wants to create an optimal context on the common market to encourage fair competition.



    WARSAW — Romanian Speaker of the Senate Calin Popescu-Tariceanu is on a visit to Poland, attending the summit of heads of Parliament from Central and Eastern Europe. On the agenda are issues like regional security, development of infrastructure on the north-south axis, as well as the role of legislative assemblies in international politics. He will hold a speech on the importance of observing fundamental values for a modern identity, which Romania adopted when joining the EU in 2007, when he was Prime Minister.



    TENNIS — Simona Halep, the Romanian tennis player now ranked 4th in the WTA, plays today against Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, ranked 17th, in the eighth finals of the Rome tournament, with 2.7 million USD at stake. This is their sixth face-off, with the Romanian winning every game. Halep has previously emerged victorious in Madrid. In the mens doubles, Florin Mergea, pairing up with Pakistani Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi, plays against the Polish-Brazilian pair Lukasz Kubot- Felipe Melo.



    WASHINGTON — The US Department of Justice appointed former FBI director Robert Mueller as special prosecutor in the investigation on alleged ties between the Trump election campaign and Russia, according to the Guardian. This comes eight days after President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey. This new scandal comes shortly after the one involving the president allegedly conveying highly classified information to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.



    ATHENS — The Greek Parliament votes today on new austerity measures demanded by international lenders. Yesterday, a general strike was staged in Greece in transportation, public administration and health. Thousands took to the streets in Athens to protest proposed budget reforms. The country needs financing to pay its 7.5 billion Euro debt by July. The government promised it would slash pensions in 2019. PM Alexis Tsipras, who won the 2015 elections on promises he would end austerity, was forced a few months later to accept a new rescue plan negotiated with lenders in order to avoid insolvency.

    Erstmals seit Beginn des syrischen Bürgerkriegs vor sechs Jahren haben die USA einen Stützpunkt der syrischen Regierungstruppen attackiert, von dem vor wenigen Tagen ein Giftgasangriff gegen Zivilisten geführt wurde. US-Präsident Donald Trump ließ als Vergeltung in der Nacht zum Freitag die Luftwaffenbasis mit Raketen beschießen. Dabei kamen anscheinend neun Menschen ums Leben, der Stützpunkt wurde vollständig zerstört. Russland verurteilte den Einsatz als Angriff auf einen souveränen Staat, während sich der Westen hinter Trump stellte. Als Reaktion auf den Angriff setzte Russland eine mit den USA geschlossene Vereinbarung über die Vermeidung von Zusammenstößen im syrischen Luftraum aus, wie eine Sprecherin des Außenministeriums mitteilte. Die russische Regierung forderte dem Außenministerium zufolge eine Dringlichkeitssitzung des UN-Sicherheitsrats, um über die derzeitige Lage zu beraten. Der UN-Sicherheitsrat hatte sich am Mittwoch mit dem mutmaßlichen Giftgasangriff in Syrien vom Dienstag befasst.NATO-Generalsekretär Jens Stoltenberg sagte, dass Syriens Präsident Bashar al Assad die alleinige Verantwortung für den Angriff trage. Das rumänische Außenministerium erklärte, der US-Luftangriff sei eine entschlossene Reaktion auf den Giftgasangriff und bekräftigte die Solidarität Rumäniens mit seinen Allierten und Partnern.



    In der schwedischen Hauptstadt Stockholm hat mutmaßlich ein Attentäter mit einem Lastwagen mehrere Passanten getötet. Der schwedische Geheimdienst sprach von einem Anschlag, nachdem der Lastwagen kurz vor 15 Uhr vor einem gut besuchten Kaufhaus im Zentrum Stockholms in eine Menschenmenge gefahren war. In der Stadtmitte Stockholms wurden scharfe Sicherheitsmaßnahmen getroffen.



    Die Anzahl der Todesopfer des Terrorangriffs im Zentrum Londons am 22. März ist auf fünf gestiegen. Eine 31jährige rumänische Architektin, die auf der Westminister-Brücke vom Täter angefahren und unter dem Aufprall in die Themse katapultiert wurde, ist ihren Verletzungen erlegen. Das bestätigte am Freitag der rumänische Botschafter in der britischen Hauptstadt. Der Partner der Frau hatte nur leichte Verletzungen davongetragen und wurde schnell aus dem Krankenhaus entlassen.



    Die rumänische Grenzpolizei hat ab Freitag die Kontrolle an sämtlichen Grenzübergangspunkten in beiden Richtungen verschärft. Die Namen und Reisepapiere aller Ein- und Ausreisenden werden in den nationalen und internationalen Datenbanken überprüft. Am 7. April ist eine Änderung an den Schengener Grenzvorschriften in Kraft getreten, die für mehr Sicherheit der EU und ihrer Bürger sorgen soll. Die rumänische Grenzpolizei teilte mit, dass Maßnahmen getroffen wurden, um einen reibungslosen Ablauf der Kontrollen und ein angemessenes Gleichgewicht zwischen der Sicherheit der Reisenden und der Zügigkeit des Grenzverkehrs zu gewährleisten.



    Juristen aus Rumänien, Frankreich, Griechenland, Ungarn, Georgien, Polen und der Türkei haben am Freitag in Bukarest im Rahmen einer internationalen Konferenz über das Verhältnis zwischen politscher Mehrheit und Opposition in einer Demokratie diskutiert. Der Erfahrungsaustausch wurde von der rumänischen Präsidialverwaltung und der Venedig-Kommission mit Unterstützung der Parlamentarischen Versammlung des Europarates organisiert. Am Donnerstag hatte Rumäniens Staatspräsident Klaus Iohannis zum Auftakt der Konferenz erklärt, dass in einer soliden, demokratischen Gesellschaft Mehrheit und Opposition gemeinsam für das öffentliche Interesse handeln müssen. Zum Abschluß der Konferenz hat die Venedig-Kommission einen Bericht mit Leitlinien zum Verhalten der politischen Mehrheit im Umgang mit der Opposition vorgelegt.
